flip-cover locking - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

in security settings there is an option of phone (screen) locking by closing flip-cover. Why does it works not at all. Tried everything. Yeah there are locking apps in store but I want this built-in to be functionable. Is there any way?

Flip covers that actually do something usually have one or more magnets inside which when the cover is closed trigger a sensor in the phone. I haven't heard about stuff a flip cover to exist for this phone

Daynote broken with smart covers?

I am currently using the Moko smart cover. The first day of use the daynote feature worked great and correctly. Day 2, the note pad feature has changed to blue in color and is not responsive to adding a note, drawing on it or anything as it used to. I can close daynote but not use it. Any ideas? I am hoping it is just user error but curious how to fix the issue. Here is a photo of what it looks like now
Is there a magnet in your case? It may take a couple days to get it back to normal if it's been exposed to magnetism.
Take it off and check your case with a fridge magnet to see if it sticks.

Daynote has been working fine for me, but I have the Samsung cover. You might try clearing data for the Daynote app. (Settings > General > Application Manager)

Yes I have magnets in my case. From what people say there are like 4 in the moko case. Is this an issue or causing the issue? I'll try clearing data to. What's the fridge magnet suppose to do?
A bit Off topic, but what is Day note?? I don't Seem to have it.

If using a smart cover case that is magnetized it will open when you open cover. It's an option under accessories

Tried but there is no option to clear data for daynote as when you close out of it to go to settings, it is no longer running. I have tried.
Cool. Thanks. I am waiting for this same cover to arrive. Hopefully the magnets are not damaging things.

You can see all the installed apps in the application manager, not just the running ones.

You can use a magnet to locate the magnets in the case, if any.

I had the same problem with my Samsung book cover. It was fixed by clearing application data in Settings / General / Application manager / ALL / Daynote.

Just about every case has magnets, including the Samsung one. The tablet has sensors in various locations to detect magnets, which allows for features like turning the screen on and off with cover open/close.
That said, I am trying a bunch of different cases, and one of the Moko ones seems to be triggering the screen-off magnets while open and folded back on itself, which is aggravating to say the least.

Do you use a secured lock screen?

So what's everyone using for locking or maybe not locking their phone? Currently I haven't been using any security. Tried the fingerprint scanner for a day and it worked pretty good but when I'm out, if my phone isn't in my hand, it's in my pocket. But I know some people live by a secure lock screen. Everyone using the new fingerprint scanner or another method? Just curious.
Just the swipe action here. I'm like you. I never set my phone down. I've had swipe only on every smart phone I've had to far. I did install a PIN lock while I was in Europe for 2 months though.
I was in a car accident two weeks ago. I was a passenger in a car that hit a semi. During the accident, I dropped my phone, however, due to the driver being an idiot, the po po wouldn't allow me to retrieve my phone because they confiscated his car. (I was taken by ambulance.) Needless to say, I had some pictures on there that I would prefer for others not to see. My battery died by the time I got released from the hospital so I couldn't do a remote wipe. I didn't have my phone locked.
Lesson learned, encrypt and lock. LOL Oh, and if you get in the car with a friend, ask to see their license and insurance before getting in the car. Ugh.
I use one myself. There are some cool apps for this. If you value your information then this option is a must.
Yes, I use Tasker to automatically lock my device with a secure password once my watch is not paired with it and remove the password when it is. Got too used to trusted Bluetooth with the Droid MAXX that typing a password every time was bothersome.

+1 I like my phone private, especially if lost or stolen. :good:
Lock Times w/Tasker
I used fingerprint for about 5 days and found it fails too many times. Maybe my fingers are too dry?
You really should have your phone locked, I believe it's more important then screen protectors or cases.
I use PIN lock and Tasker w/Local Password Lock Plug-in
This allows me to set my password to activate at different times depending on what WiFi I'm connected to.
I set at Home WiFi to not lock for a much longer time. I set work for a Mid amount of time. I then have an exit task attached to both that set it to lock at a faster time when away.

I am using fingerprints too, and I'm having problems getting it to register my prints. It usually takes at least 2-3 times, sometimes more to get it to work. I do have a dry skin condition, and I am wondering if the dry skin makes it harder to recognize prints.

yeah I've tried a couple apps to do this but nothing works. Ideally, if I do use a secured lock screen, I'd like to use the fingerprint scanner. So basically when at home, no lock screen. Then as soon as my home wifi disconnects, fingerprint scanner lock screen. Any ideas?

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything in my short time looking. I almost always have my watch, so decided a password was good enough when it disconnects. Let us know if you find anything.
Try SkipLock works great I have it set for when connected to home network, Bluetooth in car or connected to my gear 2 no lock. Otherwise my fingerprint scanner is on.
In the past I rarely used any type of lock screen security, but after trying the fingerprint scanner, I now have that enabled on my phone.
I hate entering a code everytime is turn my phone on. I use "Where's MyDroid" or Cerberus to lock my phone via text message if it's lost or I forget it somewhere. They also take a picture if someone enters the wrong lock code.

I like SkipLock alot so far(doing the 7 day trial). My only question is, how do you get it to use the fingerprint reader instead of a pin/password. Im not seeing that option anywhere. TIA!
I used to always use the pattern lock but grew tired of it and I am very happy we have the fingerprint scanner now. The only thing I need to do is decide whether the Google device wipe & location feature is enough or whether I need another third party app in the event that the phone was lost which has never happened.

Thanks mademan420. I'm looking into it now and will compare with the third party options. I don't see how I would ever lose my phone but they say you should never say never so I want to cover all grounds.

You set your fingerprint reader lockscreen with a backup password then open SkipLock and make sure you made SkipLock a admin. Then open the settings in SkipLock type in your password for the lockscreen under the set pin section.

Because Firefly is the most annoying app on the whole phone! I don't know how many times I've launched it by accident!
and...
Although I like Firefly, I have experienced pulling out the phone to find a nearly dead battery, and looking at battery usage, somehow Firefly had gotten activated unkowingly. Forget my fingers accidentally pushing that button, I am bummed that my pocket can "butt firefly" on its own.
I can use Firefly to scan QRcode, it's easy to use

I couldn't be more agreed with you guys.
It happened to me extremely often to find out that my battery is dead because of firefly.
Fortunately sometimes my phone gets uncomfortable warm in my pocket, before it's switches of...
Makes me wonder if there is some case that (even with some minor modification ) might alleviate this issue. I had not planned on using one, but if others notice this issue, they may be talking up the problem/solution in case reviews.

The issue is that the phone does not check if it is in your pocket before it starts up the camera or firefly.
Even if it doesn't, for example if it doesn't want to waste time and loads the app anyway, it should check the proximity sensor and/or camera readings to find out if its in the pocket.
I don't think it's extremely difficult, but it would manage to avoid draining the battery, and make many people happy.
Having removed the stock apps and installed the google camera is there any way i can remap the button to load the google camera instead?
Is there any way to disable the camera button while the phone is locked though (without rooting it)? It seems like the weirdest, most obvious oversight.... I launch the camera inadvertently literally every time I pick the damn thing up!
Thanks
i am on 3.5.0 with root and use device control to disable firefly and also installed xposed with xposed additions module.
with that you can disable the camera button or you can reassign it to another function/task.
i assigned it to open recent applications on normal click and home with doubleclick.
the afp will not turn on from camera or home press if the sensor in the front upper right thinks the phone is in your pocket. you can try this by covering the corner with your thumb while the screen is off and pressing either button. the screen may flash on for a moment then immediately shutting off again.
the sensorbis insanely sensitive. ive found that putting the phone in my pockets screen towards me and home button up results in very few butt fireflies. the power button will still activate the screen, but i rarely butt power [mostly i butt home].
any case that blocks this corner with a flap should help as well
Another option for the camera. If you're unwilling or unable to root the phone, the stock Amazon leather case will prevent accidental camera button presses.

Do you mean the setting in display - accidental touch protection?
This will only work when it's very dark ... like in a pocket.
Best to use a secure unlock method such as password, pin or biometric.
I also experience this issue. And actually an that specific scenario. Wvery time I put my phone in my pocket. It turns on and the first thing that press is the widgets in the lockscreen. I notice when my leg is really hot. I gotta say it's annoying

Question Apps opening automatically when phone in pocket

Most of the times when I unlock my phone after pulling it out of my pocket some apps are opened automatically. I mostly see battery setting, Camera, weather and messages apps. Does this means my phone is hacked or is there any other possibility also?
If it is hacked, is the factory reset only option to fix it or there is any other option also?
It is most likely an issue with pocket mode. Pocket mode on F3 is just terrible. It could have happend that you touched the fp slightly while putting the phone in your pocket, it unlocked and accidental touches were made. It happens to me quite often and it is annoying. Try putting the phone display facing away from your leg in your pocket and see if that helps.
I had the same problem, when you put in your pocket, it unlocks when your finger touch the sensor... In the Settings for Security/FingerPrint unlock, select the fingerprint sensor unlock to "push" instead of "touch".
Thanks for the reply guys. Looks like @Magister54 trick worked. I havent seen that issue in past 2 days.

Ah ok. Thanks
On crdroid there is an option that only allows the finger print sensor to work when the screen is on.
Does anyone have a good solution to this? I'm getting a bit tired of pocketcalling people
The feature in MIUI where you have to push the fingerprint sensor instead of touch sound like something that could solve the problem. Or perhaps the crdroid option HewettBR mention.
Is there any other ROM with a solution?
I'm running ArrowOS now but guess I have to change to an other ROM...
