[APP] Button Mapper: Remap motion sense (no root) - Google Pixel 4 XL Themes, Apps, and Mods

Button Mapper 1.40 introduces support for Motion Sense on the new Pixel 4/4XL.
The way this works is you swipe your hand in the air over the phone to perform an action. You can swipe in any direction, but swiping left or right seems to work best. I originally planned to remap each direction separately, but found this was too unreliable to be practical for most.
Motion Sense must be enabled in System Settings, and the "Reach to check phone" option must be enabled, or this won't work.
The motion gestures will work with the screen off, on the lockscreen and on the homescreen. The sensor is not active within other apps.
Setup
For non rooted devices, requires one-time adb setup to allow Button Mapper to read logcat output.
Rooted devices can work right away.
Options
Turn on screen: For rooted users, there is an option to turn the screen on before performing an action.
Play sound on action: Makes a sound whenever a swipe action is performed. This is helpful to indicate that the swipe was detected, especially when the screen is off.
Disable while music is playing: This will stop Button Mapper from performing the assigned action while music is playing. This allows you to continue using the built-in previous and next track gestures while listening to music. When not listening to music, Button Mapper will resume remapping.
Tips
A good way to test this out is to assign the "Toggle flashlight" action. It's a quick visual to help you get a feel for how the motion sensing works.

Awesome, just purchased. Only thing I can't figure out - how to map power button? It doesn't detect it when I press to add button - assuming because it turns screen off? If there's a way to do this that'd be awesome, guessing I'm just missing something

The power button can't be remapped.

Very clever use of the LogCat!

Can't wait to get a ton of Google surveys so I can afford this app haha. Looks very intriguing, great work!

Brilliant, many thanks for this! :good:
I've given it a try but it doesn't work for me:
- I have "Reach to check phone" enabled
- I ran "Enable Active Edge Remapping" using Button Mapper Setup
- I assigned "Toggle flashlight" as action and toggled on "Play sound on action"
- I went back to my homescreen.
Nothing is happening. Did I forget something?

same here, used motion sense to toggle flashlight but its not working, phone is rooted and the app has permissions
edited : actually it works but it needs the soli to be enabled (like when u open spotify and its shows u the light at the top of ur screen, swiping will enable the flashlight)
need an option where u can swipe to toggle flashlight while screen is locked if possible or when you are on your home screen
so technically the motion sense if off when screen is locked or on home screen
---------- Post added at 04:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:32 PM ----------
i noticed too that skipping songs is much more consistent, its like 100% success rate

Just out of curiosity. Is it possible to make the motion sense scroll the page up and down?

[XAP] WP Screenshot 0.3 (send screenshots over the network)

WP Screenshot
Latest PC version: 0.2 | Latest phone version: 0.3
** About:
This is another Windows Phone Mango screenshot tool that works a bit differently from other implementation(s). It sends screenshots over the network to a PC application, so that you can instantly show your phone's screen on your monitor or projector.
** Usage:
Start "WP Screenshot.exe" on your computer and make sure that port 50560 is open (or simply allow the application to access the network when Windows Firewall pops up).
Start "WP Screenshot" on your Windows Phone device, enter the IP address of your computer (use local IP in case of running both parts on the same local network) and tap "Connect and start".
Now, when you press any of the selected buttons, a screenshot should be sent to your PC (there you can do some neat things with it, try CTRL+H).
When you want to stop the background worker, simply open the application again and tap "Stop".
** Current issues/limitations:
There can be some annoying lag when there is bad WiFi coverage.
It won't capture screens from games (XNA) and videos.
** Requirements:
developer unlocked Windows Phone (to deploy the application)
.NET Framework 4 (you need this if the PC application won't start)
** New in version 0.3:
ability to use volume buttons for taking screenshots (phone)
** New in version 0.2:
toast notification after 5 minutes of inactivity (phone)
autosave mode - screenshots get automatically saved into a desired folder (PC)
ability to stretch screenshot to fit to current window size (PC)
The screen capturing part is based on "The DllImport project (by fiinix)".
I am looking forward to all the feedback and I'll do my best to fix and improve this application in the future.
Suggestion : Auto Save to folder so if I want to take multiple screenshoot quickly I dont have to come to my desktop every time.
Worked over my Samsung Focus. And Many many thanks for this.
Another suggestion will be to turn off the background process if its idle for too long. Good if people forget to turn it off
---------- Post added at 02:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:28 PM ----------
After playing for couple of hours now. The shortcut for the server app doesn't work all the time. I had to try sometimes like 2-3 times to get it working.
Nice app
Thankx a lot man !!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll include both in the next version.
About the shortcut... do you mean the hotkeys (CTRL+S,...) or something else? There can be some issues with detecting key combinations as you must hold down CTRL and then press AND release the other key while still holding CTRL down. I'll do my best to make this work as it should.
Yes the Hot keys aren't working properly. Also for the windows software,
1. The Window can be reduced in size.
2. You can set it sit in taskbar once auto save is included.

Does it disconnect after pressing the camera button (does "Waiting for client...." appear?) or is there simply no picture on the PC?
Version 0.2 is here - autosave, inactivity notification.
My Suggestion.
1. Auto Save Location needs to configured everytime, not a good idea. We need settings page.
2. Notification should also disable the connection.
3. The Windows Size of the server software needs to be reduced. Takes much of screen
Rest works as stated. Thanks !!
Cool app ! I really like it.
A suggestion:
after taking a screenhot there should be a way to stop the capture process, maybe an automatic notification (stop capturing ? YES/NO).

Hey, this looks very good and would work for me (I've tried it), but since there's no camera button on my HD2 I can't use it. Is there any way to configure another button to do the same thing? (I'm afraid not...)

[Q] Bind screenshot command to softkey input

Hello all,
I am rooted with SuperSU 2.67, running EX kernel and stock ROM. Is there any known mod or a way to edit my build.prop so that softkey input (say, long press on the overview key) triggers a screenshot? I have searched but so far found nothing. This would be a very useful feature and I am sure others would use it too, as taking screenshots on the N5X is a bit awkward.
What is awkward about taking screenshots like every other phone out there? Have you tried taking a screen shot with an LG G2 or 3 or 4? That is awkward.
That said, my guess is there is an xposed module that allows you to reassign the software keys to do this. You or someone else could modify the stock systemui.apk to allow a long press of one of the buttons to take a screenshot.

Whoops. Tagged the wrong person before. @Tulsadiver you like to do things like this. Have you ever coded a long press action to a navigation bar button before?

@OGNatan. It's not the button control you want, but Gravity Box (xposed module) has a quick tile that will do screenshot as well as a screenshot command using the power button.

Mine does it right now. I have google now launcher installed but i use Nova (i don't have any buttons configured in it.). I am running xTrafactory. Does yours not open google? I had never tried it until today.
FWIW, there are dozens of screen shot apps on the Playstore that use various strategies to capture.
For Example, Screenshot Capture by AppDoodle runs as a service and overlays a small button on the screen and captures at the touch of that button. The app can also be set up to shake the phone for screenshots.

Yes, Google opens when I long press the home button. But Home button launcher allows you to open any app(s) by long pressing the home button. For example you can have long press home to open straight to Google Voice search rather than the Google App.

Wow. Just got home from work and all these replies
I have tried several Play Store apps, but none of them give the functionality I want and/or run some kind of service that could be a battery drain.
@PiousInquisitor there probably is an xposed module for this floating around somewhere, but I am not currently running xposed. I guess for now the best course of action is to see about modifying systemui.apk :dread:
ever since the Google app added the Share button to Now on Tap, I've been taking screenshots that way.

Tapping fingerprint scanner does not bring up navigation bar anymore on Nougat

I just notice that tapping on the fingerprint to bring up the navigation bar in full-screen app does not work anymore on Nougat. I don't know if this happens exclusively to my device or not so I'm here asking if anyone notice such a thing as well.
I know that we can have other app to use the scanner as the home button but to bring up the navigation bar like so is not an option anywhere.

[APP|SHARE] Home Button Replacement [NO-ROOT]

★ Home button replacement ★
★ Descriptions ★
Hello folks!
So, while was setting the phone, i discover Motion Launch Gestures.
Well after tried it, I realized that there isn't any double tap to lock/unlock, but only a double tap to see notifications on the lockscreen.
The fact is that I don't like to use always the power button to lock the device
I've tried nova launcher for the double tap to lock feature, but if you use fingerprint to unlock, it request the pin (a security purpose on Android)
So I digged on the web and I found an app that allow you to use fingerprint to lock the phone.
Plus it doesn't require the pin after you unlock with fingerprint.
Let's begin!
★ Requirements ★
These apps don't require a rooted phone
★Instructions★
Download the two apps from Play Store (link below)
doubleHome, to use double tap on fingerprint to turn off the screen (it will show you 2-3 seconds of black screen before the phone lock)
Nougat Quick Settings, to enable power toggle on quick settings, so you don't need to use power button any more
These apps are pretty explanatory itself, so I don't write any "how-to".
Just set right permissions and config as your choice.
I've also enabled "ringtone mode" on quick settings to change vibration on/off.
So I hope you guys enjoy this and feel free to comment any others doubts/tips/tricks!
I know that root/unlock bootloader will make this muuuuch more easier.
But for now i'll keep my phone stock (it's so hard because I see many great devs here ), so i thought to share this to people like me.
Thanks mate! Much appreciated
Useful,thanks for sharing :good:

I've tried nova as well, but then you need to download also a clock widget (the one that comes with theme, that i love so much, doesn't work), plus the free version is limited.
Anyway yes, using a launcher with gesture will do the same

I just found a few options. A lock widget and a floating widget home button (It can save you from sending fingerprints in to the spy agency of your country).
Home floater (also see screenshot) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skyarmy.floatinghomebutton
Screen lock requires to be device administrator
(screen off/put away phone preceding action)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.m2t.locker.widget
Hi. I had the same dilemma but I found a better way to do the locking the screen without pressing the home button.
I’m sure you guys heard about the app “GREENIFY”. It is actually useful. Well at least for me. It autohibernates apps and it will stop any apps running in the background and will put your phone to sleep. It is now available to non rooted phones so it became handy.
So after you download the app, there is a create shortcut option in the app which will create an icon in your home screen. So if you press the app shortcut, it will sleep and hibernate your phone. Also, it is a great app for saving battery.
Then if you would like to wake your phone up, you can just use the fingerscanner.
I hope it helps.
doubleHome is an amazing app!
Thank you!

I was referring to "Power off/Restart" quick toggle, so you don't have to press the power button fot that.
Anyway that app got updated, and I don't see that toggle anymore (I'm on Oreo)
Oh so, now understand.
And is any solution to turn off vibration when unlocking? I mean without root.

You can turn off that option under "Fingerprint scanner" setting.
On Oreo I have that Don't remember on nougat..
It looks like on Nougat missing that option. And another thing I would like to say: after lock that way my phone after few minutes require again input pin code.. that's bad

If you want to turn your phone off without using the power button, then you can use "edge sense"... It enables you to do so either by short or long squeeze...

Kill App option for Nav bar?

I have seen a few discussions about the topic of getting the Kill App option for the Nav bar. Holding the back button would be the ideal implementation for me. I find it much quicker than going to recent apps and flicking away the app that I want to kill.
I have not found an answer on how I might do this on the Pixel 3. Seems like Oreo had a Developer Option that was removed in Pie.
A Gesture app seems like one approach, but I would like to hear from others on how you do it?

I have seen a few discussions about the topic of getting the Kill App option for the Nav bar. Holding the back button would be the ideal implementation for me. I find it much quicker than going to recent apps and flicking away the app that I want to kill.
I have not found an answer on how I might do this on the Pixel 3. Seems like Oreo had a Developer Option that was removed in Pie.
A Gesture app seems like one approach, but I would like to hear from others on how you do it?

Hey, do you mean that you want to kill all recents by long pressing the back button?
If so, I had a quick look and basically a third party app can't really do that because in java the REMOVE_TASKS option is a signature-level permission. This means the app needs to be signed by the same signing key as the device firmware. In short, a rom developer could implement this, but not a third party developer.
In short, maybe a request to your rom dev is the way to go!

If you're rooted you can setup Active Edge to kill the foreground app (I have it setup for a long squeeze to kill the app) or use One Plus Gestures and enable kill foreground app for one of the gestures.

I just want holding the BACK button to kill the current app on the Screen.
It is a setting that GravityBox allows and comes in handy to quickly exit an active application. I hope we see this feature on the Pixel 3 XL custom ROM that will be coming out.

Are you using Edge Sense Plus to set this up? Sounds like a good approach.

Awesome. Are you using the Tulsa mods too? When I install the SystemUIedgebase.zip for the Tulsa mods, I lost all my other mods (center clock small ampm, small LTE, no GPS pin and 3Minit).
I would love to get the EdgeSense and the Status bar mods working at the same time. I have a similar question posted on the Tulsa Mod thread.
EDIT: I had to install the Magisk Mod for Edge Sense and now they both work! I dont see the Kill App as an Action in the Edge Sense app. Is it called something else?
EDIT2: I had to enable ROOT for the EdgeSense app, now I see Kill App. YEAH!

Another suggestion - All In One Gestures! It has a long-press back to kill app option, though I should note I'm using it having both rooted and reverted to the old, 3 button nav bar as per Mishaal's guide. Plus, doesn't work quite as perfectly as it did on my old galaxy phones with capacitive keys, but it does the job most of the time...

On pixel 3 xl, you can get the old 3 button navigation with a long press of the back button giving you the kill app command? I want that!
I thought the ALL IN ONE gestures app only gave you a longer pill button. I didn't see the kill app as an option in the app description. Im rooted and really want that feature back.
Here is a list of the actions that I see listed
Actions
Free
Home
Back
Recent apps
Toggle split-screen (requires Android Nougat+)
Open previous app (requires Android Nougat+)
Open Assistant
Hide pill
Premium
Pull down the notification shade
Pull down quick setting tiles
Open power menu
Play/pause current media track*
Switch keyboard dialog
Launch app**
Lock screen***

Can you post a screen shot of your home screen?

I'm not sure what All-In-One does when you've still got the gesture navigation pill installed, but these are the settings I've got enabled having reverted to the 3 button navigation (https://www.xda-developers.com/disable-android-pie-gestures-google-pixel-3/):
You of course have to give the app root access, but otherwise no special settings as far as I recall from setting it up. Hope this helps!

That is great info. I will follow the guide once I update to the December release.
Thanks!
Is "All in One Gestures" the same as "XDA Navigation Gestures" When I search the play store for all in one than the XDA Apo comes up.
Edit: I see that they are different apps. I found All in One on the apk mirror site. Any idea what it is no longer in the play store?

My pleasure! It is a different app. I'm coming to the Pixel from a 3.5 year old Galaxy S6(!), and I just restored the app from a titanium backup. I think it was designed for phones with capacitive buttons, which might explain why it's no longer officially available. For this reason, it doesn't work quite as perfectly on the Pixel as it did on the S6 (the kill app function doesn't seem to click with a few apps). But it does do the trick in most cases. For me, I'm so used to the long-press gesture that it was worth going back to 3 button navigation for this alone, and worth sticking with it despite some imperfections in All-In-One when it comes to the Pixel. I suppose if you're still on the gesture system, you'll have to weigh up whether its worth removing the pretty new interface (and the Pixel launcher along the way, as Mishaal explains) for a functional yet slightly deficient alternative...
Here is another explanation

I upgraded to the December release and than followed the guide to bring back the old 3 button set up. Long press of the back button kills the current app! I even added the menu key to the left side of the screen My new Pixel 3 XL looks like my old Moto X Pure.
Thanks for the tip.
EDIT: Check out my retro Nav bar.
