New update for A51 & A71 - Samsung Galaxy A71 Guides, News, & Discussion

Samsung has released a new software update bringing a range of leading Galaxy S20 features to the Galaxy A series. Galaxy A51 and A71 device users will now be able to harness some of the Galaxy S20 series’ powerful innovations, designed to make the way we capture, connect and share more dynamic than ever before.

Update 14-07-2020: Updated received on my unlocked A71.
It's 1842,98MB

It's brilliant that Samsung keeps updating the A series but honestly (probably besides some security patches) there is nothing interesting in this update
I guess that for pictures and videos pro users already use filmic Pro, open camera or port of Google camera
The rest is just gimmick.

I replace all stock Launchers with Nova. Will OneUI 2.1 make sense for me?

You can search online for the difference between the two. I really want Audio Share so I can share audio with friends

Everytime I'm here I always see a distasteful post from you. If you're not happy with your device and support it comes with it then do yourself a favor, sell it and buy something else.
Thanks.

ROTFL [emoji28]
Where did you see me saying that I'm not happy with my phone? I actually think it's brilliant (especially the battery) while costs a fraction of S20 [emoji3]
But at the same time I'm not gonna praise all software changes it gets if I don't like it. That's called being a fanboy, buddy.
You seem not to understand what I say. But you can always ask [emoji6]

What? Prove it then. With links to my posts. I honestly can't recall complaining about this phone. No prove means you're just talking rubbish.
I did not complain about the apps, but I admit I complained about system apps not allowed to be removed (those additional from Samsung). But dude this is always the case with all phones besides android one
I will also complain about Samsung not letting the camera to be fully used by 3rd party apps (I can't get 60 fps videos, and when I set 120 fps, the phone records in 3 fps). Do you buddy think it's fair to purchase any thing and not be able to use it however the hell you want? Jeese... But again, very popular practice.
And now - hang on and sit down - other people complain about the latest system update not me - them. I've put on hold the update as I generally don't update anything.

Dude, you don't even ready what I write or you constantly have problems understanding
What I point out is not due to software issues. It is all intended and common amongst manufacturers. Most can be fixed by AOSP (which we don't have) except the camera limitations. That's entirely Samsung.
Anyway, stop talking to me. Seems like you have no clue...

As for updates , my UK unlocked A71 is still on April 1 update , I know the A 71 will get updates in a " big " lump.. every quarter, but I would prefer incremental updates, rather than a huge update .. if it ever gets here .. i want to to keep stock , romed before ... done it .. hence keep stock

That's why I'm still here, as they say " once you tweak you can never turn back!!"

Being new to Samsung and how they update their devices, how long does it usually take for the update to hit all channels/versions of the phone? I have the Panama version of the A71 and have not yet received the update. Just curious as to what to expect so I don't have to spam the update button throughout the day.

Ok a question for those who already own a Desire

Guys
I see there's kind of couple minor/major issues with the phone so my question is very general, are you happy with the phone or you would have rather wait for the official release if you could?
Minor issues:
- Market
Umm that would be it IMO. Doesn't bother me, I can download APK's online and use ADB.

I would be interested in the answers to this too. Stuff like speech-to-text which MAY be included in the unlocked/unbranded version - I would certainly rather have that from the get-go, than have to root my phone to have it.
Having said that, I know I will probably root it anyway when some genius works out how to do it, but it would be nice if I had the CHOICE not to

Best way to keep the Note 7 from being crippled?

Lots of talk about Software updates, carriers shutting down phones, limiting charging..etc....Is there one sure fire way to prevent any OTA updates to cripple our phones? Would rooting the phone and keeping the stock ROM (with modifications) work to help us keep our phones from being crippled? What if we installed a completely different ROM?
How do you stop the carriers (Verizon in my case) ? I currently have a message saying "System Update ready to install". I'm not installing it, and hopefully they can't make me. I'll let the message sit there until I have to return it.
I open to rooting, flashing a custom ROM, but I'd rather root and keep the stock ROM. What are my options?

All this over a mobile phone? I can fully understand such groups being active about saving the planet or blah blah blah but a mobile phone? I can only speculate at this point and taking into consideration the trouble and problems in your cause that you must have an awful lot of free time......? You do realise that this device is even banned in hell? :silly: How can you live knowing you have to monitor where you use or travel with your 'mobile' phone? Irrespective of Samsung and the carriers trying to screw owners out of existence, the constant need to be aware of ones travel with a mobile phone would drive me potty! Ownership today of this phone must be like walking down the blade of a knife?
I guess it could be total dedication to the mobile....?
Or ......? I have no idea?
Any or all the above scenarios are time consuming and very myopic. In a few months a new S8 range will be introduced and some time within the next 9 months a new Note 8?
One thing for sure the Note 7 has reached cult status :good:
Wow I miss my Note 7, fabulous mobile in every respect. Pig of a situation, absolute pig!

Ok. Do not power up again until you watched this tutorial. You can postpone the Update twice, so nothing is löst until now. Good Luck!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FG3iSOgXZB0
how to stop the update till they get us too.....
keep clicking update and dismiss until you get an update window without a dismiss. You then have 15s or so to power off your device or it will auto update. For those that had this autoupdate happen to you... this is how.
If you force it to that window when your looking. You have the opportunity to power off and break the update code. You get an error message on power up that states the update failed and to contact samsung. Power down again deny any reports sent. you may get one.. and this fixes the update.. till they figure it out and push it on us too!
Good luck fellow s7'ers screw apple. screw samsung for bowing to the US oligarchy/apple there is no better phone on the market currently #NoDowngrade
ALL THE BS IS UNREAL... whats next?

Huawei stops support on package updates?

Just went on emui.huawei.com to copy and provide a link of an EMUI 5 update for an user in need, and this i what I've got (see pic in attachment). Huawei already removed almost every package from their consumers site, and the page will be even closed standing to what is wrote on the pop-up notice... What do you think about this (in my opinion) bad move that Huawei choose to make about update packages?
What a strange move with a pure PR reason given too

Seems really an hazardous movement since that i don't think that the problem could ever be servers costs the packages are extremely useful particularly for customers allowing them to restore soft-bricked phones...
That is awful, what if someone got a bootloop and needs a package?!
What a stupid move from Huawei. I feel more comfortable by going to an official site and download the firmware from there, but now Huawei will make lots of users uncomfortable
Thats bad. noob user who brick their phones may have found such things useful now they are stuck
Meh...
Not a big deal. My Mate 9 does not have any update packages to begin with on that site so i use this

Ofcourse there is backup frok Team MT.
But official is something different. 3rd party may shutdown anytime as they basically might be taking the packages from backend Huawei database and if they restrict then we may be stuck

Yeah the necessity to have a secure package ready to flash that could fix your phone is the thing that matters most, minding at the fact that developers could rely on original sources...

No one said this by what i can read, it's simply a move that (with no doubts) leave users perplexed.
I had my hopes in Huawei/Honor, but this is one big step back in my opinion. Supplying the customers with downloadable firmware packages is the least you could expect. That's a shame.. ?
My next phone will not be from Huawei.
Seems like Huawei is trying it's best to make it's services worst in Mobile Phone market. Good try Huawei, you had good days and as I said you "had".

Definitely agree with you, is just the minimum that a person could except from his phone's brand. Even the time that they keep supporting phones on updates is minor than other manufacturers, (Samsung for example) and they decide to remove released packages too now.
Ugh. As a Mate 2 user I thought my firmware had disappeared due to age. Now apparently this is a trend for Huawei. Can you say "forced obsolescence" folks?
For what it's worth, I did find the following link from Huawei that seems to house the firmware:
http://m.huawei.com/pkmobile/consumer/support/downloads/index.htm
Got to it from my phone; haven't tried it from my desktop.
But who knows how long that will last?

Another thing: I sent a technical question to the Huawei Emui team almost a week ago - still no response. Coincidence? Hard to believe this isn't somehow related. And I don't usually wear tinfoil hats.

Obviously everyone has a different opinion, but most would agree including myself that both the Samsung Keyboard and Messages app are not as good as either GBoard or the Messages app that come supplied with the OP5T, give them chance and I am sure you will appreciate this for yourself.

Touchwiz has a typical lag in it which samsung could never get rid of and its carrying on with their flagship phones on the other hand OOS is absolutely free of any kind of lags and a combination of latest snapdragon cpu and 6 or 8gb ram makes oneplus 5t a very unique phone, keep using it and in a very short time you will completely forget samsung, hope this helps, cheers.

SMS is still the most used messeging in the States as to where things like whatsapp and other messengers are not really used outside of children. The average person in the states still sends thousands of SMS a month.
As for the question. Instead of people giving their pointless opinions how about answering the question.
You cant get those apps. OEM apps like that need the OEM framework to work and that is only on their devices.

That's alot. If you are looking for apps to try. I would suggest Android Messages (rcs support) or these 2 apps from among my fav dev Luke Klinker, Pulse SMS : has both phone and web interface. Or EvolveSMS.
I know it isn't what you asked for but give the Mood SMS app a try. The ability to schedule, add GIFs and other items is amazing.

You can't install that on a non Samsung Framework phone. So that won't work.
I would also love a proper port of the samsung keyboard. It's imo miles better then any other keyboard. Still miss it from my Note 3.
Come on devs its 2022 and no one succeed to PORT Samsung apps for One plus

S9 worth buying now, or wait?

Now that 1+ has screwed over the 6T with an even bigger design. I've been thinking of going for the S9. I held an S8 in my hand last week and the size is just perfect.
But i'm wondering about root. If i'm understanding it correctly, one should buy the exynos version as there's no root for the sd version, right?
Are there downsides to rooting that havne't been fixed yet?
If you want to root then forget about the US Snapdragon version. If done correctly I don't think you would run into many problems with the Exynos phone. I would look through this forum and read the posts that may show any problems you may face. You have to do a bit of wading to get through some but there's some good info here and plenty of help available.

And does the s9 have a strong developer community?

Have a look through the Exynos dev forums
So, S9 doesn't have any DRM features you lose when rooting?
Also, i don't know if the dev community is strong by looking at the dev forums.

I would advise against unless you get some kind of great deal. The phone is decent nothing overley better than anything else, and the US versions are lock down tight, other versions seem to be full of hassles.
I am very impressed with the s9!( Exynos version)
I am facing some issues when running multiple apps together I mean Spotify facebook Instagram messenger snapchat and browsing the same time with 3 tabs there is some lag which is for a few seconds only
i barely see my s9 freeze but it happened
(at least is faster than my old pixel xl- I am never gonna left Samsung for google ..the optimization on a battery is better on my s9 the camera the AMOLED screen and useful futures wich you gonna get on the next Android version on stock )
PS go for it, if you using the phone all day long with heavy tasks take the s9 plus with 6 GB ram is gonna be worth it!

It is very expensive, but i've found deals for around 555$, and that's for the exynos version. SD isn't available here.
