Very disappointed (S7 LCD screen) - Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 / S7 Plus Guides, News, & Di

24 hrs in:
I bought the S7 11 inch wi-fi model. The LCD screen on this thing is a real let down.
I got spoiled by my S6's screen. Even my Tab S2's looks better than this.
I'm gonna give it a couple of days to see if it grows on me but at this point it doesn't look good for keeping it.
Anticipation was very high waiting for the S7 and like I said I'm VERY disappointed.

The only reason i went with the plus model was the screen size and amoled display. Coming from an ipad pro 12.9 was a huge upgrade.
I'd say return it and get the plus model it's not that bigger than the S7 and is totally worth it.

Wow, I got the S7 5G and I love the screen. Yeah its not note9 quality but I find it good in its own right.

I've just bought the S7 wi-fi model. I didnt even know it was LCD, before I buy it. I didn't make the research this time. I thought Samsung always sells amoled, loI. Pro model was a little expensi ve so I get this one. I feel kind of sad but is it really that bad?

I find it looks great. 120Hz makes is smooth. Movies and games all look great to me. Granted I am an artist (color blind too) so notice little details. I can say I am not a screen snob and this LCD easily looks great even with very minor short comings. I have the note 9 and I now use the tab more cause its larger.

I have oneplus 6T and this is actually my first tablet. I dont think this device is bad but I was expecting another panel than an super amoled from a high end samsung device. I guess they had to cut the costs off from somewhere. I could've get the new Ipad Air with the same price, this one has the pen included though. Every product has it's adv. and disadvantages.
Edit: I would prefer a 90hz amoled though.

I picked up the s7 and I think it looks great maybe its just me ?*, I have a note 10 and I think the S7 looks better. Must be my eyes lol

True, the S6 screen definitely looks better, but I am going to keep it, make some tweaks and see how that goes.

Best of luck to you all. I can't complain about the screen. Images are clear and look great. Hope everyone finds what they want.

Its not that the screen is bad, the reason I said something is because I have the S6 and the screen on the S6 is better then the S7, the S7 is suppose to be a upgrade, thats what I see as the problem. Not that the screen on the S7 is bad, its just not as good as the S6

Makes sense bummer that they downgraded the screen, my current tablet that I hardly use is the Samsung tab pro 8.4 inch so to me it looks great lol. I'm debating on exchanging but not sure the screen alone is worth the $200 price difference

LCD's SUCK compared to AMOLED. For the price, this thing should have an OLED.

It really should. S7 is pricey. I have to admit no amoled on S7 got me to pay more for S7+. I only did it because I was able to stack about 5 different discounts and cashback offers.

I would have preferred an Amoled display but this screen is in no way a bad screen. That's definitely a first word problem. :silly:

I have an S7 and I absolutely love the screen. I'm not an artist though and don't use the tablet for that kind of work. For my proposes - reading, movies, browsing internet, note taking - I don't see the point in AMOLED; especially with the number of defective screens Samsung has, which by the way they consider a "feature"", not a defect. Sure OLED screens are great, but Samsung's screens? Thanks, but no thanks. Besides, the battery life on S7 is better than on the plus model (could be because of the screen as well)

Um You do know amoled is definitely better then LCD right? you do know for the price it should have been Amoled not LCD. As a owner of a S6 now way is the S7 screen comparable to the S6. Also by the way you do know that the great apple screens are supplied by Samsung? By the way I use my tablet for the same reasons you use yours.

I do know that. And for my purposes I couldn't care less if I have an LCD on a tablet or an OLED.
As I mentioned, I'm not using it for graphics/drawing, the picture is good enough for Netflix/YouTube on a screen of this size (it's not a TV, c'mon), and LCD is much better on the eyes for prolonged reading. But it's my use case/requirements and it might be different from yours or someone else's.
I agree about the price, it should have been lower for a device with an LCD screen. Unfortunately currently there are no (Android) alternatives to this device.
I know that Samsung supplies the screens to Apple. I also read from people who own both that they couldn't find a difference between iPad pro and S7 screens. So I'm not sure why you mentioned that. Anyways, I don't consider Apple products however good/bad their components are, I just done like their products and policies. I also don't like Samsung, but as I said - there are no alternatives on Android right now. Hopefully Huawei/Xiaomi or someone else will step up soon.
All in all, I'm not saying the screen is the best I've ever seen, and it's definitely not better than OLED screens. And I agree that if they put a cheaper screen - they should've lowered the price. But I don't agree about the screen itself being a huge "letdown" or a "disappointment", at least not for me.

Agreed. The screen is still great. Blacks are still deep, off angle viewing is still great. Yes it might use a little more battery and is probably not as good as an oled panel but its by no means bad. I for one am not interested in paying an extra $270 for the 7+ that tablet was expensive enough

Broke my Note 2.. wait for note 3 or buy the lg?

Anyone coming from a Note2.. thoughts? I figure note3 will be similar spec'd to the LG with the exception of a better camera and the S-pen. Likely the Note3 will cost $250 more than the $440 At&t has the LG for now. Hmmmmmm. I really do like Samoled Screens .. nothing beats the contrast of them.... ahhh those black levels. People who say the colors are unrealistic and oversaturated are correct at default but need to remember there is a quick setting in Android to mute them.
>>>>>> Note2 to G pro thoughts would be greatly appreciated<<<<<<<<<
I came from a note 2. If you are a Samsung fan, wait for note 3. Otherwise, take the leap, I love this phone. It fits better in the hand, feels more "premium" and the screen is gorgeous.

Ok.. I went out and picked one up..It was $399 at the At&t store.. I thought it would be 439 but I was told that was with sales Tax.. I'm from Oregon so I'm exempt from sales tax. Seems like an insanely good price for a phone outright.. So at that price I can't lose! So I figured it would be Early Sept for info on Note3 and probably wouldn't have one till at minimum late sept early OCt.... and it would likely cost alot more. ANYWAY ... so my first impressions are pretty good, it feels better in the hand than the note2..narrower.. like it felt going from the note1 to the note2. The screen I'm a bit mixed on... on one hand it is definitely sharper and finer and text and whites are noticeably better BUT on the other hand the blacks aren't close to the blacks on the note2.. when using the same wallpaper I was using on my note it looks almost like a different picture... not even close in contrast .... Samsungs display definitely pops more. I'm really surprised on most reviews it's not mentioned.. other than the LG's screen is amazing.. and yeah it's somewhat obvious it's crisper and sharper. I do like the shorcut button.. for quick notes and screenshots easily txt'd to someone. I may miss the S-pen a bit but I hardly used it .. just a nice option.. I think I will definitely use the IR blaster way more than the S-pen so that's a win. Speed wise I know this one is faster than the note2 so no concerns there.. and if battery life is even 75 percent of the Note2 I'll be happy.. hoping it's the same though :good: .... oh yeah Speaker isn't very good on this.. not a big deal to me though.

very easy wait for Note 3 if money is not an issue, I'm currently using OGP even though it's a lovely device I don't think it will fair well against Note 3.
Cons
LG speaker not loud enough, got used to HTC One.
No development support worse then Xperia ZL, which I thought was very bad.
Brightness level pretty low compared to Note 2 btw I prefer OGP.
I have an S4, Note 2, and an HTC One. This phone looked very appealing out of the box so I just ordered one and am anxious to get it! I will indeed sell it or something else and buy a Note 3 most likely just because Im a device whore as most of us are.

Need help with deciding.

Okay, so I'm debating on whether or not getting the G3. I need as many opinions as possible whether or not to get it. Please list your pros/cons along with your comment. Right now, I'm stuck with either the M8 or the G3.
My previous devices were:
Samsung: S2, S3, S4
HTC: Inspire, Wildfire S, EVO 3D
Sony: Xperia Z1 C6903
LG: Nexus 4 (current)
I really liked my Samsung's just cause of the AMOLED screen. I stripped TouchWiz most of the time and stuck with AOSP. I liked my HTC's cause Sense was actually pretty cool besides the heavy UI. I liked my Z1 cause it was waterproof. I love my Nexus, because, 1) Life's Gangster 2) straight Google 3) decent specs even today.
Cons: TouchWiz, is full of useless gimmicks. Sense, then, heavy UI. haven't used any other version since 4.1. Sony, odd but useful UI.
My girfriends brother just got the M8 and he said he loves it. Is only other (smart)phone was an S4. I'm not sure whether to get the G3 or the M8 though. He said that he used the G2 and he said it was **** without explanation. I was gonna get the M7 but since HTC took the SD card slot away, I'd have no use for my 64GB.
I love that the G3 comes with 3GB ram for the 32gb with expandable to 128GB. I kinda like the rear power/volume buttons. I love the lockscreen (using it on my N4). I love OIS and the Infrared depth sensor. The only things steering me away from it is the 5.5" screen and it not being waterproof. I'm not too worried about the waterproofing because hello, taking a shower with my Z1 wasn't anything exhilarating. I think 4.7" is a sweet spot for screens but I definitely got used to my S4's 5" other than having to reposition my hand to drop the notification shade down.
Please help me decide on what I should do. Sorry if this isn't in the right thread, I figured I'd put it here cause 1) I'm asking a question (2 about the G3.
Thank you.

Only you can decide.
No one can give you an absolute "yes" or "no".
You have already found two negatives FOR YOU in G3 - 1)screen is too big 2) not waterproof.
If you are in the US, you can buy it from your carrier, use it for 13 days and then decide whether you like it or not.

Yeah but opinions can help a lot. I mean the screen "seems" to be too big. It'll be different when I actually get the hold the device and see how it feels. For the waterproof thing, hopefully there will be a case that at least protects it from light rain or something. My N4 isn't waterproof and I'm okay with that. It was just a nice luxury when I had it noting I really need. There's always those companies out there that do it to an extent. Do you have the G3?

Lol. I'm using the Xperia Z Ultra! 6.4" of finger and Palm splitting. All other phones feel so small to me but I'm trying to find the sweet spot so I can go back down under 6". I'm getting the G3. Love LG designs and I miss owning the OGP. I think this phone will be the one for me until the Note 4 comes out, but if the Note 4 is knoxed up with locked bootloader on t-mobile then I'm sticking with the G3. Might even be my phone for more than 6 months!!!
Sent from my C6833_GPe using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
@Maine_Coon same here. I was checking out my gfs brothers M8 and my thoughts are: Pros: its surprisingly thin, surprisingly lightweight, Sense seems a lot faster, boomsound is greatly improved and bassy, the pictures look amazing, the top where the IR blaster looks slick. Cons: I have to slide the phone down a bit in my Palm to reach the power button (I'm used to side power buttons). I don't like how they moved it to the right of the top of the phone. You have to strain your finger to press it. I don't like the placement of the headphone jack. Its not directly in the center of the bottom of the phone, it looks cut off. I don't like the recents panel.
So yeah, I'd rather take an OIS camera with an infrared laser rather than dual cameras. I have never witnessed an OIS camera before and I think it would be sweet. I think I'm steering towards the G3 more than anything. Let me know what you think of it if you get it before I do.
@Jammol 6.4" is massive! Honestly, my Z1 was too big for me and it even had a 5" screen. I loved my S4 once I stripped TouchWiz off of it, unlocked the Sim and bootloader. I only got rid of it because Samsung released that Knox ****. I mean I still rooted and flashed ROM's with it removed though. I just think Samsung is steering more toward unless gimmicks that they think people would use. Don't get me wrong, air view was pretty tight, but that's about it.

Sure will.
The only thing that bothers me is that some report "dim", or not enough brightness.
I almost always keep the brightness at 100%.
Have such a screen dull would be a shame.
Battery life is non-issue for me, I always have the spare. Unless it is not possible, as with G2 and Z Ultra
Everything else suits me perfectly.
Already sold my i6000 and G2, Z Ultra will follow if I will be happy with G3.

Are you talking about the G3's screen being too dim? If so, having a 1440p QHD screen you would think they'd have to limit something with it to conserve battery a little better. As what @Jammol said, if the G3 is actually worth it, I'll probably keep it until way past it's lifespan. The most I'd probably do to it is slap AOSP on it like I did with my S4 depending on how the UI is.

yes.
doesn't make sense to me to have a phone with dim screen.
my i6000 6.5" 1080p screen was brilliant.
as of AOSP, we need an unlocked bootloader and not just root.
hopefully this will be resolved.

With T-Mobile's Uncarrier 5/6, I doubt locked bootloader will stay for long. T-Mo is really trying to win more customers and I think if they allow unlocking of bootloaders, that would win a lot of people in my opinion. Hell look at Verizon, they may have the most advanced and fastest LTE, but I'd rather have a fully customizable phone than fast Internet, especially when I have Wi-Fi at home. But again, that might all change with Android 5.0

Think about the OnePlus One if you're ready for a 5.5" phone. Comes with CM from the factory, the most open and dev-friendly device atm. Only prob is availability and few reports of yellow tinted screen (sounds like the N4 a while back haha) and can't try before you buy. G3 is beautiful but hobbled by GPU thermals and too many pixels, prob locked bootloader, needs Windows to get it ready for custom roms.
Or if you need a G3 wait a month or two and it will have Snapdragon 805 to solve all the major issues.

Yeah the OnePlus One looks like an amazing device but I kinda like UI options. Hell, even when I had my S4 before I put AOSP on it, there were so many themed versions of TouchWiz. I never really witnessed a LG UI before and I'm interested to find out what it's like. I would definitely get it, but the whole "invites" thing is a huge dilemma. I'm waiting for Xaiomi to hit the US. Cheap, but beefy phones.

What do you consider outdated though? So should I get the G3 when T-Mo get it then? I read reviews about it on AndroidAuthority and AndroidCentral and they both said that even though it has a 5.5" screen, it handles like 5". They said the camera is good, infrared laser is fast, etc etc.

i was one of the winners from the race contests and i ended up giving my invite to somebody else because of the reasons below:
-only snapdragon 801
- the display is outdated..2k and/or 4k with qhd is the future
-no microsd slot
-no water resistant
-no removable battery
-no ir blaster
-too tall, with big bezels..taller than the g3
-oneplus devices tend to have a yellow tint on the screen
-CM takes too long to update their work
-by the time u get it there will be better phones already

That doesn't make any sense. 2k/4k resolution is only needed on a much larger screen, while the 810 is slated for sometime in 2015. If you're willing to wait a year then this whole discussion is moot.
@CrashTestDroid you really think they'll come out with a G3 with an 805? I just want something beefy enough to play Modern Combat 5 when it comes out.

The only downside (if you dont like big phones) is the phone size itself. I find it hard to operate with one hand. Since its a phablet you'll probably use two hands most of the time.
I currently own an LG G3 Beta version and I can say that it is excellent. Battery life, screen, features are more than enough. I wish it was around the 5" spot but then again the beautiful QHD display makes up for it.

Well they did put LCD as oppose to the AMOLED listing for the 6P. Aren't all LCD screens on phones pretty much IPS now? I could be wrong.
Sent from my Sprint Galaxy S5.
I certainly hope it is as good as the nexus 5 from 2013. If it isn't I think I will return it. It is a "midrange" device but it is still expensive and they cut a lot of other corners on this phone. The display better be good.
The display looks good, but could have been better on Nexus 5x. They also have compromised on other things and display is one of that.

I think the reason why it's expensive is Android Hub, camera, and fingerprint sensor. I read the display isn't spectacular. I have a feeling it'll be the same like the Nexus 5. Also, Google didn't take the time to calibrate it
I'm not worried about the LG LCD, they make great displays. Also I much prefer a LCD to amoled

I'm glad LG is making the display. I am with you on AMOLED. At first, I thought I liked it, but I experienced burn-in on my Moto X 2014 a few months later. Never again will I go for AMOLED
A couple of places list the 5x as having an IPS screen; one such place is AnandTech.

Yeah I don't know exactly what it is about amoled, even on the best displays like the GS6. There definitely is image retention with all amoleds, some worse than others and dependent on use. They also tend to look "dirty" at lower light levels. LCDs look cleaner to my aging eyes.
This will be my first non-Samsung screen I'll be looking at in years. Galaxy S5 and S III were my last phones. Might be a welcomed change.
Sent from my Sprint Galaxy S5.
The Nexus 5 panel used was well calibrated and one of the more accurate mobile displays. I'm hoping LG and Google keep the same attention to detail with the 5x LCD calibration, so far hands on have said they were impressed with the screen quality and brightness.
I sent back my Nexus 5 three days after owning for bad light bleed at top edge. I can't stand light bleed, and that is my biggest quip with LCD's. That said my G2 LCD is awesome, with no such problems. From the quick hands-on vid's I've seen, haven't seen any bad light bleed yet.

Not as dirty as xperias. Whenever I take mine out of my pocket, it looks very dirty and a bunch of dust on it. Had the z1 and returning this z3c to amazon lol.

Anyone switch from Galaxy S7 edge?

Has anyone switched from the S7or S7 Edge to the OnePlus 3? I am considering it simply because of the lack of root. If someone can give suggestions that has used both devices, i would appreciate it. Thanks.
I own both devices. I haven't decided yet which one to keep. The One Plus 3 is definitely a better value.
The camera and screen are definitely nicer on S7 Edge.
I own the AT&T S7 Edge and wished I had purchased the international version.
Honestly, you won't go wrong with either.

I can't imagine many people doing that.
I did and its amazing.. I had the S7 Edge with Exynos. Between the S7 Edge and OP3 I have had the Huawei P9 Chinese (AL10) and even the P9 performs better than the S7 Edge.. but OP3 rocks all away.. AnTuTu with around 142k, P9 have 99k, only S7 I forgot..
I had some big problems on the S7 Edge with the Edges, they didn´t recognized, even with the actual firmware.. that was the reason t oswitch to the P9.. but I´m still not 100% happy.. the OP3 seems to fix this for me.. I´m totally happy for now
Fixed the RAM issue..
Maybe I can update my experiences in a few days more detailed
Me. I loved the Edge but that split second Samsung lag was getting beyond annoying. Also the fingerprint reader on the OP3 feels 3 classes above
I have too. I took many pictures side by side and there was very little difference that I could tell. I will miss the waterproofing and the bigger battery but I never used the edge features and the ability to root and get a decent tempered glass screen swung it for me. That and I got an extra £150 in my back pocket

Mmmmh, my advise to the OP ... don't believe everything you read here ... .
S7Edge user here (Exynos version). - Display, Water/Dust Resistance, Battery ... to name just a few. Not much of a comparison. Then add a likely superior camera/video performance, expandable storage, wireless charging, better headphone sound (Exynos version) ... looks (subjective).
Still, all this comes at a price and Touch Whizz is arguably not the most favourite interface but its perfectly workable and the end result is very, very good.
I am not arguing about the value of the Oneplus 3 and I am considering one to replace my Elephone P9000 as a second (work) phone but not until they (OnePlus3) have attempted to fix the display on the 3. However, that may or may not be technically possible.
I tried to post a link to an in-depth technical review of the 3 on here but the mods deleted it. You can find it on Anandtech's website, published today.
So, personally I'd unquestionably hang on to your S7E!
IF you had the US galaxy s7 edge (i have a t-mobile version) then you'd probably feel good about the switch to Oneplus 3.
These are the things I don't miss - from the s7
- poor battery life on the Snapdragon version
- samsung UI lag and the fact that I have to disable nearly every bloat to get the device to a decent working state
- locked bootloader and no end in sight for root availability
- regret of not buying the exynos variant
Things i actually miss:
- Stellar low light camera
- F**kin amazing low light and indoor pictures
- may be that marginal flexibility of being cool about not charging it overnight.

I am sorry to hear that. Personally my version is lightening fast but it is not uncommon for phones to slow down over time (LG are known for that but others do it too). To find the exact reason is very difficult as user preferences/installations etc vary dramatically from person to person.
Touch Whizz is not the most intuitive UI but it generally doesn't slow down an operating system. Todays processors are easily able to handle the slight increase in workload over a stock Android install and then some.

What is the display issue you mention here?
I have both, but haven't properly tested the Oneplus 3. I'm on my 3rd S7 edge though. I do love the phone, but I kinda feel its a bit delicate. I also love the balance on the Oneplus and the speed of the fingerprint sensor smashes the S7 egde. I don't like physical home buttons either. Always feel like eventually they will wear out and get sticky. I'm really excited to try out the gaming performance of the Oneplus though, genuinely cant wait!

It's totally squewed up. Measurements are some of the worst tested (Anandtech review of the 3 today, can't post a link but if you head over there you find a more in-depth review including test bench measurements, than most other, subjective testing sites).
It just so happens that I am quite sensitive to large display aberrations. Of all the phones I've had the P9000's superb display is still my benchmark but talking of which (benchmarks), Samsungs S7 line are the most accurately measuring displays of any phones, depending on setting and which standard you want it to apply to.
Even so, as with most Amoled displays, whites are not usually as pure as from an accurately calibrated high Quality LCD but on the S7, its as a compromise I'm ok to make for the benefits.
OnePlus should probably have fitted a good LCD (ala MI5) rather than go for the headline grabbing but probably cheap and old Amoled version fitted.
Still, an update may come some way towards solving some of the issues. I wait to see.

Gaming performance will be the same.
If oneplus had faster updates I might think about switching but that doesn't seem to be the case so far. My s6 edge plus got marshmallow before the oneplus 2 by 2 months . Now that I have the s7 edge I can't justify the switch unless I'm going to make a good profit on it otherwise I think I'm going to keep it and wait for the nexus 2016.

They are all but indistinguishable. No games available will test them to their limits.
Pointless comparison.
Personally, I feel that processors have reached limits which are all but useless for the majority of users, even power users.
Manufacturers should now concentrate on other, more important aspects such as increased battery life, water resistance and good quality displays.
OnePLus3's effort is not close enough yet, instead concentrating on headline grabbing things like a top processor. In the process economising elsewhere but like I said, it looks good for the price and I am considering changing the P9000 (if OP can sort the display).
I have both phones, my S7 edge is from Tmo so it also have a locked bootloader. Since I love flashing roms and all I just could not stick with the S7 edge. Also it is laggy as fk and it even takes long just to get to settings. I'm going to miss the great camera in low light but that's about it. This phone OP3 it's so fast and already have a great support from devs. I wouldn't think it twice. I'm just going to sell my S7 edge this week.

I have both and I am trying to decide what to do. The S7e battery is much better and the screen on the OP3 is lacking. The camera is ok on the OP3 , but no where near as good as the s7e/ The OP3 is snappier but my battery is already at 80% after only 3 hrs at work. The OP3 is VERY thin, they should have made it a little thicker and squeezed a 3600 mah battery in it.

Same here. My S7 lags switching tabs when setting an alarm in the official clock app. That's when I decided enough was enough. This OP3 is lightning quick. I don't have that slight jerk to every animation that have on my S7 Edge
This feels better too. I don't accidentally touch the screen because the screen is curved towards my hand holding the phone

It may be quicker now, a day or so old but I'd put money on it that a few months down the line, after numerous custom rom installations, a bunch of loaded games and the usual app catalogue etc. it won't quite feel the same

From one reluctant Note fan to more confident ones

I'm sitting on a fence I've been scooting on for the past 2 phone upgrades. I currently have a Note 9 and in my head, the natural choice would be a Note 10+. That had been my thinking until Sprint released the OP7 Pro 5G. I know all the specs and all the differences between both on paper. I guess maybe I'm trying to get someone to convince me one way or another. I don't think I've seen a screen better than the ones on Samsung flagships and I'm afraid I'd be trading down if I went OP7. I know about the 90hz screen but since I've never seen it on a phone, I could live without it since I wouldn't know what I'm missing out on. At the same time, my s-pen use has dropped dramatically since I first used on on the Note 4 and honestly, I never use it unless I'm cropping a screenshot, which is rare. Someone just slap the ish out of me and tell me what to choose -_-
Edit: Forgot to mention, I live in Dallas. So I'd have access to Sprints 5G, as rudimentary as it is now. Hence the fence sitting

Depends on how much you take selfies as well. The S-pen is good for snapping pictures like a remote that I enjoy. Also Dex to put the phone folders on the desktop is something that's cool. You're right though. Nothing beats the Samsung AMOLED screen. The screen is a little larger it looks like with the 6.8" than the One Plus at 6.67". Looks like the One Plus doesn't have wireless charging if you used that. Only other main differences is the battery on the Note 10+ is larger at 4300mAh vs the One Plus at 4000mAh. 91% screen to body ratio on the Note 10+ vs the 88.5% on the One Plus. I wouldn't worry too much regardless on which phone you get with 5G since 5G is very limited and very finicky right now. Sure, it might be better next year but they said it's a lot harder to maintain a 5G signal since it uses millimeter waves and much harder to penetrate through walls. I don't see 5G really getting steam until probably the end of next year going into 2021.
Water resistance. I own a pool that I use all the time and snap pictures of the family. The One+ it is t an option. Is this a few $100 to me... Yes.

10+ 512GB 5G. When using 5G, it's like you are in a different planet. Truest me. And, as everyone else dumps their cell phone because it doesn't support 5G, you'll already be where you want to be.

Note10+. I had the same battle basically, in my mind. Screen, DeX, s-pen, IP68, wireless charging, WAY better camera (that's what made up my mind), most premium feeling and looking phone around... Samsung just has an amazing thing going right now. This phone is the most incredible piece of technology I've ever owned. I'm coming from a Note9, which I previously thought was basically unbeatable (only upgraded due to the amazing deals). SO glad I chose this phone.

I appreciate all these answers. Its definitely reinforcing a lot of the feelings I have for the Note series. I really do feel like if I choose the 10+, I'd be just as happy as this. But I've always had an itch to try something new once the shine of a new note wears off. Part of me feels that may be due to the almost insignificant jump from the note 8 to 9 and I have a feeling going from 9 to 10+ would be a lot more impressive. I still have time to decide, but I really wanted to put feelers out whole I could. Thanks so much, dudes

Thing is, you'll get the opposite answer from OnePlus 7 forums. They'll tell you to get the OP7 Pro because of the 90Hz screen, no hole punch camera, faster updates, faster overall UI (I sincerely doubt that any UI could be faster than this Note10+ on performance mode, Nova launcher, and 0.5 scale animations though... This is INSANE), and Oxygen OS instead of Samsung's bloated UI. That's what they'll say, whether true or not. So I hope you put out feelers on both sides or the battle wasn't fair! Either way, this phone is better for ME. Not sure what's better for you.

That's exactly what I did, lol. Made basically the same thread on the OP7 forum to gauge both sides. I think I'll come down to me trying both out in store and getting a feel for both.
I might be able to offer another opinion for you, but with the same results.
I was a pretty loyal iPhone fan for the longest time since the 3GS. I had a couple of forays into the Android world, with the OnePlus One and LG V20, because like you, I wondered what it was like on the other side. I really liked the OnePlus One, but a bad customer service experience turned me off to them until the 6T came out and I decided to try them again. I had the phone for less than 48 hrs before I brought the phone back for another iPhone.
Fast forward to August 2019 and I fell in love with the Note 10+ instantly. I had always wanted one but the Note 7(?) fiasco turned me away. I went in to Best Buy one day and got some hands on time with it, and I was hooked. It's the first time I've ever pre-ordered a phone, it was very exciting. Now that I've been using the phone for awhile, I can honestly say it's been a great experience. Camera, screen and the Samsung ecosystem are all top notch. And, no buyers' regret!
Anything but the Note 10 or 10+ It's not all rosy as it seems, the camera quality is sub par and you'll be constantly disappointed when you open the camera to take a pic. Call quality is not great because of the weird placement of the speakers. 60Hz display seems retarded compared to 90Hz, huge difference. Now I don't know One plus 7 camera quality but Pixel 4XL will definitely have much better camera. So coming from another Note 10+ owner don't buy this iteration, it's basically crap. I owned a note 8 and 5 prior to this. My next phone will definitely be a Pixel or One Plus.

The camera is not sub par. It may not be the best, but it is definitely in the top 3 or 4. Also I have never, ever had a problem with call quality although I think that front facing speakers do sound better, but call quality and sound as it pertains to music or video are two different things. Fact is, it is only loudmess is only slightly less strong compared to the S10 (+), which has front facing speakers. This iteration isn't crap, but is different. If you are yearning for the productivity of yesteryear, wait for next years Note (or maybe the year after that). The S line and the Note line will probably be merged and the Fold will more than likely inherit the S-pen and become the new productivity device. Remember, even though the Pixel and OnePlus are great phones, the screens and the technology everyone is raving about, comes from Samsung. They also made the screens for the 3 and 3a. As for the 60Hz v. 90Hz debate, yes it is a noticable difference, but does that mean the Note experience sucks. No it doesn't suck and the fast charging is comparable to the OP7 Pro and it also offers fast wireless charging, as well as reverse wireles charging. While not necessary, wireless charging is extremely convenient. You can find wireless chargers in coffee shops resteraunts, airports and even in a lot of newer cars. Its great to be able to just throw your phone on the dash while driving across town and still have all of its fuctionality while its charging. In my opinion the Note 10+ is a great phone; overpriced, but a great phone none the less. BTW, I do own both Pixel and One Plus devices, as well as Xiaomi, Vivo and Huawei. So I do have several phones that I can compare against.
