Goodbye U12+ - HTC U12+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Even after a factory reset, my battery doesn't charge unless the device is powered off, the fingerprint reader is wonky (already fixed once) and even when it's charged, I can barely get half a day out of the device. I never had any issues, the buttons weren't a problem, and I have no regrets about buying this, but my 9 Pro is being delivered today and I can't wait!! Goodbye to all the posters here and really appreciate the developers who did their best keeping this device up to date.

How are you liking the op 9 pro (from someone coming from htc)? I've seen some bitter reviews because of the price and for what you get... Oneplus was one of the brands I would like to try but now I feel like a pixel would be better wasted money.

Edge 6 vs other flagships

Hey all... Just wondering if anyone here with an Edge has also tried any of the other 2015 flagship phones, and if so what are your thoughts? Obviously you chose the Edge but what were some of the deciding factors?
I have a G4 and looking to dump it. Not sure if I want the Edge or if I wanna wait to see what the One Plus has to offer....
Thanks!
Never even gave that a thought, nothing compares to my gold edge.
Pp.
I had the G4 for almost two weeks. Though I did like the feel of the leather back, I had to return it. This was the first LG phone I had ever bought. Loved it initially, but soon found that it was very laggy, got uncomfortably hot with 10 minutes of internet use & was slow on wi-fi. I Really wanted to like the phone! It did not live up to my hopes. When I talked to T-Mobile, I was told that all my issues were common. Had to move on.

My biggest issue with going for a phone with non removable/expandable storage is my phone doubles as my 'iPod' and I have about 40GB of music I need to store on the phone. I guess the 128GB would be my best option... You say you had the G4; Hows battery life compare between the two phones? Its easy to read reviews about that kind of stuff, but if someones witnessed it first hand, I'd rather take their word.

At first, I was getting great battery life. Moderate use throughout the day and still have 70% battery left at 7pm when I would get home from work. That 70% kept dropping when the overheating outstayed started. At the end, I was down to 40% when getting home.

Is the 5X a worthy updgrade

Hi
I'm looking to get a new phone. Currently I have a Moto X play and was wondering if the 5X is a good upgrade for me.
What I want from the 5X is speed, decent battery life(4 hours SOT) and good development support.
Can any 5X owners help me out?
I have never even played with Moto X play, but I can assure you that 5x is blazing fast in daily stuff and there is no problem at all with reaching above 4h SOT ( at least for me ). You have tons of custom roms, kernels and other things to play with, even if you don't want to go that far, you receive monthly security updates.
What about usb otg support?
There's no problem with it, everything works as it should. It may vary on your cable of course.
There isn't anything wrong with my X play, in fact I like it quite a bit. It has awesome battery life and nice features but limited development.
I have a nexus 7 tablet but have never had a nexus phone. I noticed that nexuses get all the good mods and guides so that's the main reason I want to get one.

The battery life will be a downgrade as the X Play has a massive battery and lower powered SoC. However I still find it adequate for 1-2 day battery life with 3-6 hours SoT depending on usage. The audio speaker probably isn't much better either.
Everything else should be a noticeable improvement, specifically the finger print reader, camera, and custom software.
If you are used to the size and weight of the X Play, could you stretch to the cost of the 6P? I have a 5X and mostly I like it but the only thing stopping me going for the 6P was the size. The 6P would seem a massive step up from the Moto where the 5X will be a baby one.

I had a 6p and it blew away my 5x. I had an accident with my 6p and ended up getting a 5x. Got it super cheap. I like the build quality of the 5x better as 6p is fragile and I work alot outside. I wish we had the CPU and ram the 6p has this phone would be awesome!! Don't get me wrong i love my 5x but liked my 6p more because of the 8 core and the larger ram. Looking forward to next Nexiis. ? @ op: I'd wait a few more months and see what's coming. I bet it will be great, always is. ?

At this point in the year I would wait until the fall and see what the new Nexus phones will be. As soon as the 2016 Nexus phones are released I'm getting rid of my 5X. It's okay but no where near a keeper for me. The 6P was light-years ahead of it but I had to replace my 6P multiple times because of quality defects.

Tbh, if you already own a Moto X Play then the N5x is no upgrade that's worth the money.
I'd suggest waiting for the next mid-range Nexus or a deal on a current flagship (LG G5 is undergoing serious price correction, at least here in Germany), if you can stretch your budget a bit.
My boss has a 6P and I played around with it a bit. It's a dam good phone but it's way too big. I find X play a bit awkward to use with one hand as well that's why I was thinking a smaller phone. The 5X is around the size of my beloved Moto G.
I realy want a nexus again if for nothing else than the development. I guess I'll wait for the new ones and make my mind up then.
Thanks guys
I'm tempted by the 6p only because of it being a Nexus device. But honestly after getting a 32gb 5x for 200. The 6p not worth it in my honest opinion. Now if you want the 6p like feel and cheaper price tag try the honor 5x. Basically same phone(of course internals are better on 6p) but has development and will continue to grow and fast because of honor release sources like they promised. Now that would be a upgrade only because the honor 5x is basically the cheap 6p fingerprint scanner, unlocked bootloader, root, custom Roms. If not then unless you can sell your x play and get a good deal on the n5x then do it.

I dont sell my phones, I keep them and use them from time to time. Yeah the 6P is too big to use in my opinion.
Honor isn't available in my country and its a pain to import. Nexus devices are easily obtained from Orange
I agree with the others to wait a few more months. The 5X isn't all that great, with the low battery capacity being the most glaring issue for me. Though I could go on about other deficiencies with it, like even the camera app crashing at times, and some extreme lags at times. Wait for the next batch of Nexus phones and there might be something nice in there. If not, the price on the 5X will definitely drop anyway.
If you experience slow downs/lag and it's not due to temperature throttling (which happens on all phones at some point, in the end it's a closed box with no cooling, threshold is set pretty low on N5x) you could test for an unoptimised app running in the background (e.g. I found Apple Music beta to be a culprit), otherwise it could a brief moment where the phone clears some ram.
Battery life and smoothness of the system is something I wouldn't list as cons from my experience with this device.

Try Butterfly Interactive tweak on Phasma kernel and a custom rom. Enjoy 8-9 hours of screen on time like me while getting decently low temperature of 34 C overall. It's also incredibly smooth and the ram never exceeds 1 GB. Never had a crash with apps. Everything works flawlesly here, maybe you don't know how to handle your phone, mate.

Sounds like a bad app. My camera app has never crashed, no extreme lag even when my device gets super hot doing GPS navigation in the sun.
The next batch of Nexus phones are about 5 months away.
When I first got my 5X I loved it. But I've had it a month and the shine is definitely off the apple now. Here's what I've learned:
1) as a computer-type device, the 5X is great. It's quick, the screen is great, no bloatware. That's all good.
2) its battery life isn't the greatest, but it is good enough (having come from Droid MAXX and Droid RAZR MAXX, I have big battery expectations)
3) as a phone, the 5X sucks. The call quality is terrible. It is worse than I remember OLD cell phones 20 years ago being - conversations drop words and are garbled and you're constantly asking the person on the other end to repeat themselves. The volume to the ear piece when on regular calls is too quiet, even when set to maximum. On speakerphone, it is barely audible if there is any noise in your environment at all (like a fan, a tv, or other people talking).
So, while at its core, the 5X is a nice mobile computing device, it is a poor phone at best.
I get call quality equal to landline whenever the reception is good. I agree volume using the speaker for calls is too low (or sounds like a robot if you have to turn it all the way up), earpiece volume is alright.
Experiences on this device seem to vary a lot. Many faulty handsets.

Note 7 - To keep or not to keep?

I was wondering aside from exploding battery what are the other disadvantages of not returning the Note 7? I love the phone so much that I am willing to take the risk. I currently have the "fixed" batch. Do you think they will still honor my unit for warranty after the recall part 2? Will there be minor or major software updates?
they are accepting ANY note 7 whether original or 'repaired' to be returned for a full refund or exchange for s7 or s7edge. according to samsung us website they will also replace device specific accessories.
I don't think it's worth risking it.
Do you really want to wake up to a room on fire, or worse, not wake up at all?
People might say this is scaremongering, but when Samsung are taking them all back AND stopping production, who is anyone to say that this a non issue.. I certainly wouldn't keep it if I had one.
To expand a little - I own a GS6 Edge Plus.
It does normally get a little warm when charging, but not that hot, definitely not too hot to touch.
The other day it had sod all battery, maybe around 10%, and I accidentally tapped yes to do a software update. And left it plugged in on the quick charger, on my mattress. Was doing other stuff, didn't think much of it.
Half hour later after it had updated and was 'optimizing android apps', i picked it up, and the metal frame was easily 50-60C. I hate to think how hot the phones internals were, but holding the phone for longer than 2.5-3 seconds did start to hurt.
I unplugged it immediately and held in front of my fan to cool it down, as it was still 'optimizing apps'.. had it been left plugged in, and not only that but possibly in a warmer room, or under a piece of clothing or similar, what would have happened?!
Frankly it's scary knowing that if I had selected the option 'install overnight' and left it plugged in (with some bad timings as to the charge that it was on when starting charging and also starting the update at this higher current flow from quick charge) , that it could well have got even hotter, and been a worser situation.
As far as I've always believed, the phones are engineered in such a way so that charging speeds are forced to decrease when there is too much heat etc, but this proves that even Samsung with their normally incredibly robust testing processes, can be caught out, and end users can be presented with risks they wouldn't dream of ever occurring from a product made by such a huge and reputable manufacturer.
I do get that the problem is different in the Note 7, and Samsung aren't even completely sure why it's happening yet, but I can't actually believe people are thinking about keeping it. For god sake it's a phone. I love gadgets and I am the first to be p**sed and ranting when this stuff happens to me, but damn, it's not worth your life!!
I don't think the device will Have hardware or software support.
I understand wanting to keep, I want to keep it too by far the best phone.
At the end of the day it is just a phone and not worth the hassle or the risk and there will be even better phones in the near future.
Simple think it starts burning when you are sleeping and it starts a fire or when you have it on your face making a call or when you have it on your pocket when you are driving on the highway!
No software updates
Resell value will be poor
Chance of it exploding
Keep it at your own risk, or just wait until a replacement device is released.
I'd keep it as a collector's item. Since Samsung is recalling all of them. It will increase the value of the device in the future.
EDIT: Hmm, I see they even explode when off.
No way to keep it as collectors item then!
Imagine your house burning down because of this...
They don't explode when off, so if kepping it as a collectors item - with the battery drained to zero and powered off - means nothing bad should happen...

after the reports of some apparently burning even when off, you'd have to be a pretty serious collector..
They very well can catch fire when off.
talk is now that charging rates are problem.... software updates would fix
Before the recall, if your device caught fire, everyone's focus was on Samsung and how they put out a defective phone. If you keep it and it catches fire, everyone will wonder why the hell you kept a $700+ phone when you knew the risks. If you're looking for your 15 minutes of fame, you'll have it. That and third degree burns.
I know that people are saying that it is only 8 phones out of all that they sold and that is a small amount. That's true, but that's 8 phones over a short period of time, and it would have kept happening. Samsung's actions were smart because what would have happened if the phone had killed someone or had burned someone's house down with their entire family in it?
You'll be keeping a phone that will have no support from the manufacturer and no support from any of the carriers. You'll be keeping a phone that you cannot take on an airplane. You'll be keeping a phone that might be blocked by your carrier. You'll be keeping a phone that will never receive another update, except maybe to disable it.
I understand the desire to keep the device, I really do. It was the only phone that I was seriously considering purchasing when my contract came up for renewal. Now that it's not an option, I'm going to ride it out with my Note 4, because there is no other phone on the horizon that looks to be worth having.
I was all set to do the Note 7 (currently have the Note 4) when my trade-in period kicked in. Haven't done it soon enough, and now can't do it because my carrier won't sell them anymore due to the recall. I was disappointed, and still am, hearing everyone say how great a phone it is. I originally was thinking, "maybe the wireless charging feature is at fault" but apparently there's more to it than that, if the phone is catching fire/exploding whilst off. So, hoping that Samsung will figure out the problems, and a "Note 8" will be forthcoming that corrects all the issues - but I'm not expecting anyone to jump into the next Note with both feet right away (including me).
To those wanting to keep the Note 7, I would say that due to the official recall, I wouldn't expect ANY ongoing support from Samsung, nor any software updates from Samsung or your carrier. My gut feeling is that since Samsung wants ALL the phones back, they won't support any that are still in the field after the recall notice. It's going to be like a dead phone.
I would have kept my Note 7. But I'm afraid they will bring out new updates sabotaging slowly the phone. Like Oculus removing support, or the Update limiting the battery to 60%.
Even though I used Package Blocker to avoid that Update, or I know I can use other App to compensate the absence of Oculus support, there's a truth you can escape:
If you decide to keep your Note 7, you will have to fight for it every day. Avoiding Updates, having to root your phone, not being able to use it in a plane, seeing apps removing support and having to find new ones...
And that's not even Half of it!
Remember... Your phone may explode at any time. This brings constant fear and mandatory extra precautions as "not being able to charge your phone without supervision" or "having to turn off your phone when sleeping", or even or "note being able to entrust your phone to people around you in fear of hurting them".
So it's a no brainer guys. As much as you love your phone, and are happy with it. You will return it.

I thought about risking it too. Samsung sold how many units? Assume 4 million globally, and i lost track of how many units exploded? Let's assume 100
100/4,000,000, or 1/40,000 is a pretty slim chance of having any issues. And having a phone nobody else has is pretty cool
but one thing came to mind. Samsung will no longer release software updates for this phone. So $900 you paid for a flagship phone has no future software updates. No custom rom will be released because nobody has it anymore. You will be stuck with an old tech pretty soon. and to be honest, the note 7 is really buggy/laggy. That is fine/acceptable if I can expect future fixes for existing issues, but not if I have to endure it for the life of this phone
I was thinking of keeping mine until they released Nougat on the S7E. Assuming it doesn't get released for the N7, that will be the only incentive big enough to lose the spen which I use all the time. Another possible option would be if they offered a 128G N5.. But I have 128G of my 256G SD already used, and with a lot of Oculus use, quite a lot of the internal 64G used too (Gear VR stuff all ends up on internal memory), so would need to do some serious declutter to drop back to 128G...

Samsung's recall process here in my country is a pain to a point that returning the unit for recall is more hassle than keeping it + the risks. Hahaha
Now that money (refund) is involved, recall process pain will double.
Don't turn it in yet. Samsung has NOT completed their investigation yet AND they CAN NOT replicate the battery failure. There are other things that samsung wouldn't test that could attribute to issues with the phone. #1: Cheap third party USB-C Cables. These were found to be the cause of damage to MANY USB-C Devices because they weren't wired correctly. #2: Failed rooting attempts where the software could have been compromised. #3: other forms of user tampering. The fact of the matter that out of the replacement units SEVEN out of 4 million total phones sold world wide (0.000125%) exploded. Pre-replacement, 35 exploded out of that 4 million. (0.000875%).
So, both combined, the chance of your phone exploding is 0.00105%, and that fits well into the number of people who could have lost their charging cable and bought a cheap, badly wired USB-C cable (which have been known to make OTHER DEVICES malfunction, blow out and explode).
The pictures of the note 7's that have blown up show that they literally created enough heat to melt GLASS. When you hit temperatures that high you can't hold the phone, yet the ONLY VIDEO of a note 7 supposedly exploding shows a woman HOLDING IT IN HER HAND for an extended period of time WHILE IT IS SMOKING. I work with electronics and lithium ion batteries all the time. When those things explode, sparks come out of one of the ends and they get TOO HOT TO CONTINUE HOLDING.

well said, bloody well said mate, some good figures and logic applied is always better than unknown fear.

Am I missing something?

So I chose the pixel xl as my Note 7 replacement and although it's not a bad phone, honestly it's not nearly as good as the s7 edge or even the note 5 ( I haven't owned only Samsung phones those are just my last two).
I thought Google assistant (the main reason I chose this phone) was supposed to be a big deal but is there really any major difference than using "OK Google" on any other android phone? Also, no wireless charging or microsd slot? Seriously, what makes this phone worth the sticker price?
I know this sounds like just a rant but after reading all of the positive reviews about this phone, I feel really let down after actually using it and I honestly feel like I'm missing something major here. Anyone else?

I think your perspective is right on. If your coming from a 3 year old phone, this phone is mind blowing. If your coming from a premium Samsung or iPhone, its meh at best. I upgrade every year and to me its just a small iteration. My Nexus 6 is still my favorite phone. The Pixel is a $500 phone.
My thoughts exactly. No micro SD slot (just to get user to store everything on googles cloud) no wireless chrging(though I give them credit for the 15 minute plug in giving 7 hours of use. The phone is efficient. I've gotten almost 5 hours of screen time with heavy use. The call quality seems to be better than Samsung. HD calls on verizon sound really good on my end and others have stated this is the clearest I've sounded to them in a while(maybe the design using glass at the top of the back for better antenna reception really does matter). I like googles launcher. But this phone starves for faetures like "Hidden folder" on the note 7, good lock thru galaxy apps, notification light blinks so slow i can unlock the phone before the light flashes. No always on screen. From the front the phone feels like i'm holding a galaxy S4. The chin is huge for no reason. 5.5 in screen is no longer "XL". Should make a 6 inch screen for the XL. CAmera is great. No numbered notifications(a little number in a bubble showing how many new texts or calls) no batter percentage option. Finger print sensor on the back is easier to use and it's fast. I guess all the fuss is about google assistant. To me it's not qite a flagship but lets remember. Google(like all other phone companies) need to you to give this 1 up when the next one drops. So guarantee the next one has wireless charging and or a SD slot. Just my opinion.

Thank you! I really don't think it's a bad phone but the price and the hype is just crazy! It seriously feels cheap to me. I know it's all metal but because of the different textures on the back it feels like plastic unless it's cold. It's not even water resistant and the top and bottom bezels are way too big to look like a phone that costs this much.
If Samsung or apple came out with this phone they'd be in serious trouble but Google does it and it's some kind of revolution? The assistant isn't going to be even close to useful until it's available in the Play store for everyone. It's just missing so much that phones released 6 months ago costing $100-$200 less already have.
I was really excited for this phone after the note 7 thing and I'm just really disappointed. I'm keeping my note 7, fire hazard or not.
Google's phones will never, ever, ever include an SD card slot, ever again. This will always be a choice you have to make with Google, because they religiously believe in the cloud. I just tell people to get a Moto if they want a Nexus-like with SD card support. However, the unlimited photos and videos at full quality for free offered with the Pixel is amazing.
As for wireless charging, now that I have quick chargers everywhere I stopped using wireless charging with my Nexus 6 months ago. It's just sooooo sssllllooowwwwww. And the Pixel charges quite quickly, even on non-QC chargers. For instance, it seems to be sinking quite a bit of current from my powered hub, which just supplies 5V but can source about 3A per port. It can basically max out any charger that's not that stupid OnePlus proprietary one. Not a big deal.
I even like the bezels, because they give you a place to put your hands when holding it in landscape.
I find the suggestion that they should have released another 6" behemoth interesting, because I remember when the N6 was launched there was a lot of grousing that there were no small flagships left. The common refrain was 2 models, one 5.5" and one 5". As someone who loved the Nexus 6 in basically every respect, it's just a tiny bit too big. I am a 6' tall person with normal hands for that height, and I can't reach nearly the whole screen with one hand. It's not a one handed device, at all. The Pixel, on the other hand, seems to be a perfect size, in addition to being better in every respect compared to the at-the-time brilliant Nexus 6.
Also, you can totally get battery percentage with System UI Tuner. Just hold down the settings icon in the notification shade.
well, if you like the look and style of an IPhone, the Pixel XL is a good choice for you; yeah, no stereo speakers is a drag, but I like the Assistant, and it is the fastest phone I have ever used.
the hype is excessive, but thats what we get with everything now a days..

I've held down settings in the notification shade but nothing happens. I'm trying to get battery percentage but it does nothing.

well, if you like the look and style of an IPhone, the Pixel XL is a good choice for you; yeah, no stereo speakers is a drag, but I like the Assistant, and it is the fastest phone I have ever used.
the hype is excessive, but thats what we get with everything now a days..

Do you mind if I ask what you like so much about assistant? I really feel like I'm missing something but I can't find anything that makes it better than Google now.

Does your settings gear now have a dim wrench next to it? If so open settings and scroll down to the bottom. You should see "System UI Tuner". Or, you know, you can google it yourself since I gave you all of the relevant information.

Now see here. This is a perfect example. It's all a matter of taste and perspective. The previous google phone users seem to love the Pixel/XL . I come from a long line of Sammy Note phones. Honestly I thought the Note edge was a great phone but with a case on it ..it was a bit to wide for me. actually to me the S6 edge plus was the perfect phone size wise and aesthetically. the 5.7 inch screen and the glass back were perfect. I also have the moto Z force just for the mods. When I think about it, with no bezels and a shortened chin the 5.7 inch screen of the S6 edge+ was basically perfect for me. As far as "wireless" charging I did have to have "fast wireless charging". It's not as fast as a cord with rapid charge but sometimes you just want to sit the phone down and get a quick boost. Not that I'm back to plugging in I do miss fast wireless. Again the assistant is cool, the camera is really decent. anyway.. to each his own. On edit.. thanks for the SUI heads up.. I like it. However,, that mini number in the battery is virtually unreadable.

The one thing I noticed straigh away was the crazy fast response everything on the pixel has compared to the note 7, there would be so many times that the Note 7 would visibly stutter even just a second here and there. Things like opening up and typing on the keybaord instantly would create this minute lag in the interface. I am very picky when it comes to that so I noticed straight away the Pixel is just fast, it doesn't stutter or lag like the note 7 did. Also small things like the speaker is FAR better than the Note 7, it's louder and fully than the 6p even. I hate edge screens too, I couldn't stand the note 7 in that regard, felt uncomfortable to hold compared to the pixel. I'm just so happy that I got a phone that just works ALL THE TIME. That's why I paid the extra $100 over the note 7 for the pixel. And I'm also betting on Google assistant (AI) becoming FAR more integrated and more powerful. All other phones will be missing out I think. Hardware can only go so far, software on the other hand....
Man who needs an SD card now?? I can finally video tape everything in 4k and not worry about memory or ever loosing the footage because it'll always be on the cloud! I legit video tape everything I can now!

I agree on the speed, the note did stutter on me from time to time any this phone doesn't at all really (although I have had a few force closes, possibly the apps fault). The assistant has promise but let's be honest, it's no better than Google now at the moment and by the time it is better, it'll be available on every android phone.
The phone itself to me is just last year's Cadillac with this year's Mercedes price tag.

A lot of people do. Really why drain your battery to access files on line rather than an sd card using less battery power and files on your sd card are a lot safer than the hackable cloud. And there is the extra data you use to access files on line. Sd cards use absolutely no data to access your files and do not eat up battery power so.
1. Sd card files safer than cloud.
2. Sd card uses no data to access your files, so does not eat up your data plan = saves you $$$$
3. Sd card files use less battery power than accessing files on the cloud.
I get that, I'm blessed with unlimited with Verizon but I always only upload to cloud while charging. If anyone is interested in true unlimited data with Verizon, I have an extra line available. I'll only charge 80 a month

Get over it. SD cards are going away.
That's the great thing about Android! Choice. Different strokes for different folks. There will be a phone out there that suits you. Find it and embrace it! ?

Well hard to say, as it has cpu that is newer than last years phone, also has better cameras than phones from last year, and software you can't compare to those phones either. And when compares to phones this year, it's kinda the same. I agree it is overpriced, but they are doing it because they can. If you want the best android experience available, there is only one phone. If you don't want to pay that much then there are great alternatives.
Waterproof - Owned S7 and Note, never seemed to EVER need it unless I was showing someone
Wireless charging - have a stand and still use the cable 90% of the time since it's faster
SD Card - I could see this one as a big point, but most people I know never fill up their phones and the ones who do could easily clear up half of it and improve performance by deleting unused apps and cleaning up the gallery, plus with 120 gigs + unlimited cloud I'm goooood
Gimmicks have made people wanting stuff they use maybe once every 4 months. "I can't have it therefore I need it"
IMO Software performance / day to day use > everything else .
Note 7 is a beast phone but I could honestly say at least once a day I get caught in huge lag spikes when trying open snapchat for a quick photo or even the camera app.
Sacrificing gimmicks for day to day use is worth it 100%

I gave you what you want, sorry. Make the whole display bigger, maybe that will work. Or just open the shade if you need a specific percentage.

S20 - Major issues

Morning All,
The last Samsung I had was an S2… so im reaching out to the Samsung people on here and those with a bit more insight than me…
I’ve had my S20 for a few days now (2nd one after my initial one was faulty).
I’m having major issues with it to the point I actually hate this phone.
Issue 1: Battery Drain
So, my first handset had to go back because the battery drain was so bad Samsung thought it must be faulty. My 2nd device isn’t much better.
I’ve come from a 2-year-old p20 pro which would use about 5% and hour with me using it none stop.
This S20 is using 5% every 30 mins... with no usage. As an example, I unplugged my phone at 100% at 8am this morning, it’s now 8:57 and my battery is at 87%... I’ve not used it.
Iv trawled XDA and tried a few things in terms of the screen settings, refresh rates, dark more, Natural instead of vivid, disabled apps, power control on apps, turn off 5g etc and then installing all my apps manually instead of Smart Switch on initial setup.... It’s still not lasting a day even with minimal usage.
It’s really really poor, I’m now thinking my first handset wasn’t faulty.... just this S20 is rubbish.
Issue 2: Wow how bad is the camera
So, my other issue is the camera... one of the main selling points on this handset is practically useless.
Again, coming from a P20 Pro I’m used to amazing photos, but that handset is 2 years old... surely Samsung has caught up? nope.
Iv given up using the 64mp mode because every photo is blurred, the auto focus simply doesn’t work... the standard photo mode (10mp) i think does auto focus, but there is such a lag between pressing the shutter button and the photo taking it makes everything blur.
Can anyone help or is this (flagship) phone simply a waste of time?
Just for ref:
SM-G981B
Exynos990
G981BXXU1ATCT
O2-UK
Sounds like you have a defective handset. I have the s20 ultra and the camera ****s on the p30 pro
Unfortunately, this is the situation at the moment. Still waiting to fix camera problem with focus. I read, that the S20 Ultra user no longer complain about this problem, but still here in S20+, maybe in S20 too.
The battery is very bad. I used in 60hz, because in 120hz i can't make the day. I do SOT in 4g about 3-4 hours. Hopefully they will fix things with next update... too many people complain about Exynos S20 series....
its not a defective hand set, iv already sent one back thinking it was defective but this one is the same. Looks like everyone has the same issue. I guess its the **** exynos chip that we get fobbed off with.
I presume all of the reviewers were sent a snapdragon version and the mass produced ones used the garbage processor.
So i clocked it this morning it took 7 hours and 40 mins to go from fully charged to dead. the camera is just straight up garbage at the moment, yes you say the ultra is sorted but i think they treat that desperately to the s20 and the plus which you would expect given that the most expensive handset (£1,200 in the UK).
It's because it's an Exynos chipset phone. Those are crap for battery, as for the camera Samsung post processing isn't real good. I would imagine that future software updates will straighten this out but only time will tell.
