Question Oneplus 9 Pro overheating very often - OnePlus 9 Pro

Hey beautiful people, I need ur help.
Whenever I play games like Wild Rift or use my cam, my phone keeps dimming down and giving me a warning message about the phone overheating. How the fek do I turn that off? I can physically feel my phone being warm, but far from hot! My op8 got far hotter and didnt do that... Is there any rom/kernel combo that lets me control that? Service menu via dialer doesnt let me in... Help much appreciated!

Sadly, the one's that bought this device have fallen into a trap. The 888 is a true waste of precious semiconductor, worse, it's really unoptimized in the OP9P with really bad ventilation/cooling and pathetic battery life.
The real (old) OnePlus ended with the 8T. Sell it off mate, genuine advise.

Snap 888 problem, i have mi 11 and have same problem. In iphone 12 pro max too if screen more than 90% bright

If I'm in the sun, it'll overheat, but other then that I haven't had any issues(knock on wood). I'm running Omega kernel.

Turn all OP display features off, turn on 1080p & no game mode.. .... Sucks but works. Curiously enough, we shouldn't have to be doing this... SD888 is an unfortunate thermal hazard failure

It's shame. I was hoping to give 9 pro another shot (and finally ditch s21 - oneui is rock solid but not my thing) this week. There are some good deals on amazon.
on the other hand some people claim they've never experienced any overheating issues.

Is there really nothing you can do whatsoever, but turn off 120 Hz and qhd?

Is not only this phone. These Snapdragons phones are becoming a heat epidemic. ASUS so far is building vapour-chamber cooling system to their ROG phones. I use a radiator fan on this 9pro. It has wireless charging, 15w. Keeps the phone cool. I play a lot on this phone. Check on the internet for Magsafe charging heat dissipation fan. Benks makes one of the bests. It holds on tight, keeps the phone cool, and wireless charges it.

Oh my... I hope theyre gonna fix it somehow... So youre telling me, even if I root and flash kernel + rom I cannot turn off this stupid ass function?

I would bet if you root & flash a kernel (I've had great success with Omega - YMMV obviously) you won't even need to disable that setting!

Wait a minute, are you saying if you flash this said kernel (Omega-YMMV) Your OnePlus 9pro does not heat up again?

I've had no overheating issues using the Omega kernel ..... your mileage may vary, though (YMMV)

Does it mean even when you record 4k videos at 60fps over 5 minutes you still don't get device over heating warning on your OnePlus 9pro?

Are you already rooted? YMMV is an acronym for Your Mileage May Vary (meaning another kernel may give you better results even though Omega is the best for my use)

Yes I am rooted. And I terribly cannot record 4k videos on my OnePlus 9pro. Over heating message pops up right after 1 minute and phone has to cut out the recording experience. I've reached out to them on their community platform severally but it appears it's a general issue. I am new to this kernel thing. And if you sure testify about omega eliminating this problem, then I definitely gotta give it a shot.
I bought this device to make videos and now it's not serving the purpose.

Download a kernel manager from the Play Store, backup your current kernel, then flash Omega if you meet the requirements and know how to get yourself out of a bootloop or a soft brick https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/kernel-oos-omega-kernel-oos11-august-14-2021.4271027/

Sorry for "ressurecting" this thread. Just wanted to ask if anyone could share "his best solution" as in Kernel + rom combo or anything like that... Or stick to stock + arter?

Is Touchwiz really slower than stock Android?

We all love to rag on Touchwiz for being a bloated lag beast and pray for the day we can flash CM to get rid of it. However, there is a way to compare stock Touchwiz vs stock Android on two devices with exactly the same hardware specs and surprisingly, the difference is not that significant.
The takeaway is that Touchwiz seems faster loading video while stock Android is faster loading web content - I have a theory for this based upon how Touchwiz parses javascript, but that's another thread . On a benchmark basis the two are within a few hundred points of each other.
Anyway, here is an interesting video of a guy testing the S4 Play Edition (pure Android) vs the S4 Touchwiz Edition, both all stock and brand new with no rom optimizations or debloating. It's interesting and shows that while stock Android may be a bit faster overall, the difference is far less than one might have imagined. Of course the results may be different on the Tab S.
Nice, but surprising report. Guess the skeptics will need something else to complain about.

If only those 2 models were comparing Exynos vs Snapdragon.....then we would have a better understanding.
But I can say for sure, in daily use, Touchwiz is noticeably slower than stock.

The thread is about TOUCHWIZ Vs ANDROID not Exynos vs Snapdragon. In this test anyway there doesn't appear to be much difference between the 2 running on the same platform. YMMV.
Apparently, Kitkat 4.4 introduced aggressive cpu throttling at much lower temps than prior Android versions. This may be something that is causing slowdowns you have perceived with prolonged use. While this increases battery life, it crushes performance. Fortunately a good kernel should be able to address this. In this case the hardware is fine, it is the OS which is screwing things up. I guess Google saw that people care more about battery life than blazing performance.
Anyway, here is the article. Interesting.
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/sa...at-performance-cpu-throttling-dvfs,26414.html
Again this is for the S4. Not sure how it applies to the Tab S.
Here is a thread by a dev who was able to disable the DVFS throttling on the s4. He claims that is to blame and not KitKat directly. Will research to see if thee is anything similar for the Tab S.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674928
Ok, I see that using Wanam Xposed you can disable Samsung DVFS in Advanced Settings. No idea if this works on our Tab S but I disabled it and nothing seemed to break on reboot. This should not increase benchmarks, just stop excessive throttling. One would guess you will see better performance and worse battery life.
We'll see.

Hi Mitchell, did the battery life turn out worse?
Still deciding whether to root my tab our not (root loses a tv streaming program in belgian which is quite handy)
All I have to say is load up my alpha rom and see for yourself. It's like the difference between a tablet that came out this month (CM) and a tablet that came out three years ago (TW) performance wise.
I've gone from thinking about selling it to wondering how many years its going to be before they can produce a tablet that makes me want to upgrade.

Yes and this is one reason why I get sick of people moaning about battery life all the time. It's a mobile device constrained by current technology and what size battery can be squeezed in.
Yet people still expect 3 days battery, super duper speed and a nice slim light device.
For me I accept the limited capabilities of a battery in a mobile device and think they do a pretty good job as it is.
I want a mix of performance and battery, but I'll gladly sacrifice a bit of battery life for a lag free , smooth device.
However the more people moan about battery life the more the scales will tip to battery life at the cost of performance.
I would be willing to except a tablet a mm thicker to have a bigger battery

[Q] Overheating 🔥?

I just got my Samsung Galaxy s6 edge white 32gb last night and I noticed that is over heating than it should be. I'm using it for Web browser and texting nothing that should cause to heat up. I also updated to the latest version.

Actually if it was overheating then the phone would automatically shut down to prevent damage, but yes the phone does get hot rather quickly. But I've had glass and aluminum phones before and they always get hot fast since metal retains heat.
Mine ran a lot hotter than a normal glass and metal phone, and it was laggy/jerky. I flashed the stock firmware to it, and now it's smooth and cool.
Here's How:

yes it does get hot once in every 3-4 days & when I say it means really hot..

Smart switch is not working for everyone. Hit or a miss thing.
My phone heats up to 44 C
What is the Warning Level is it safe till 45 or 50 Celsius ?
It happens when
1) On use of Google Maps while driving
2) Charging
3) When i use Sandisk OTG, to the extent that it stop the Transfer & freezes
4) Even if i Record Videos sometimes
5) While wireless charging
This is really bad Never had such a Issue
I agree with some of the sentiments here that the device can seemingly get pretty warm - especially when I tweaking things or using apps that use a lot of CPU or using the camera for too long. But I do believe a lot of it is related to the aluminum/glass case - I believe Samsung is basically taking advantage of the case as a though it were a heatsink - releasing all the heat into your hand/pocket/air.
This is truly the first phone i've had that manages to stay under 100° F even when cpu frequency is locked to the maximum and I'm playing very gpu-intensive games, provided that i'm not charging the battery and the phone is not in an unusually warm environmnt like a hot car. I should mention that i'm rooted and lots of preloaded software has been removed. I would download some sort of process monitor and check it to see if there's a misbehaving app to blame if this is happening regularly.

Hey,
I saw that you posted a solution when someone had problems with his S6 edge overheating. I've an S6 and I think I might have the same problem.
I was wondering if you could spare some time to help me. I posted my problem here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/help-s6-cpu-getting-hot-t3180011
I used Antatu benchmark and CPU temperature to test my phone and it got to 84.0 C twice, once when it was testing my CPU to it's fullest and once when it was testing game performance.
So I was wondering if you could run the test as well and tell me what temperature you got so I can compare. Thanks
I haven't tried your method yet but I will tomorrow.

For the record, mine just hit 85C while running AnTuTu. As far as daily use, it made a world of difference on my phone when I flashed the stock firmware the first time. The phone was terribly hot in my pocket when I was not doing anything, and it was SUPER laggy when I was. Not something I expected from this phone. After the flash, it was a Beast and ran MUCH cooler. It would get warm still when doing intensive tasks, but that would be expected from an Octa-core phone in my opinion. It does not get uncomfortably hot anymore, like it used to though. I would imagine it went WAY above 85C when it got hot before, because it was actually hard to hold at times.
If you have not flashed it since new, I would highly recommend it. I know it's a pain, but it's a one time thing that you never have to do again, and the benefit MIGHT be large. No guarantees, as you may not have the same issue, but I've received a lot of reports from people who have done it and they say it breathed new life into their phones. For me personally, it was DEFINITELY not a placebo affect. It was night and day.
With all that said, I've got my S6 Edge up for sale right now as I've moved to Apple for a little while. I continually jump around, and T-Mobile offered the iPhone 6 for $15/mo and I can trade it in 3 times in the next 18 months for free and keep paying $15/mo for the newest phone. I'm looking forward to seeing the difference in the iPhone 6s. If it sucks, I'll be trading it in shortly for another Android phone.
PS: AnTuTu final score: 69314!!!! Wow!!!
One more thing. To eliminate ALL lag and slowdown, I replaced the Samsung Launcher with the Google Launcher. What a difference that alone makes! Seriously, try that one thing. It's huge. The Samsung Launcher has some issue somewhere that they still need to address.

It should. As long as Smart Switch can recognize your phone model and download the Correct Firmware, the Flash WILL help the Heating and Lagging problem. If your phone is not recognized, then Smart Switch will not do anything. It's worth a try.
For me it happens especially when im playing arround with that samsung theme store build in app. I don't know why that app needs so much power to have that effect on the phone but for sure its something samsung needs to look at.
For sure they need to re-design that app from the scratch. Its like the "my first homepage" of theme apps.

About heating I can't be of help because I dislike computer gaming, about custom ROM on this particular device which was born for just specific countries, on particular I'm referring to Chinese version, I think that it worth to flash to obtain a more tailored system. About the purchase today I will opt for a newer device since zuk z2 it's not the latest and as you probably know technology runs very fast.

ok then i think its better to move towards another brand
The best bet would be to purchase the phone and use it as much as you can and burn the phone ASAP and claim your warranty in this way there will be a lot of trouble for Lenovo Customer Services, and if they see this issue then only their developers will take steps to ensure optimum customization & performance with no heating solution.
This Mobile is at its EOL and that is the only purpose the mobile prices are reduced so much in India, Lenovo is looking forward with its MOTO brand and leaving behind its ZUK brand.
If you really don't care about warranty just download the unlock bootloader file and use your choice of ROM, and even if there is some damage, just revert back to original stock rom and claim your warranty.
But the best bet would be to continue @ the stock ROM and if the heating issue persists just try to burn the phone, in this way your are legally good to go and you can claim your warranty.

I know this review doesn't even matter anymore because you should have already purchased a new phone. And with the device being outdated and the company shut down.. This is meaningless, yet I wrote this because phone is still selling quite nicely in my country(India) and some new users can use this review.
1) There's no heating issue unless the phone is used for gaming for a quite duration like 1 hour continuously. But that's natural right ?
2) The heating issue shows up in Summer.
Just a day before I wrote this review, my room temperature was 38 Degree Celcius and phone started lagging even when I watched just a single youtube video. I Thought I must be dreaming. SD 820 and lag ? Even decided to take a stupid step and checked Antutu scores (as I knew they will drop when heating occurs) And Surprise ! The Score was 53K ? I reset the phone thinking that Rom might be misbehaving as this is my 1st device that I haven't reset in 2.5 months. Again with an Antutu test I get 85K ?
So this is just atmospheric heat. My guess was just that to keep the costs low, they might have used the low quality materials. But who knows ? I'm not aware much about heat dissipation system used in Z2.
Conclusion : If you're a heavy gamer, don't go for this phone. Plus my review is based on Stock Rom. I haven't yet void my warranty. ? Custom Rom might even be different but Hardware issues wouldn't be solved that easily.. An average user can go for this phone with eyes closed. You won't get such an astonishing SoC at this price.
Verdict : I used phones like LG G3 Beat and Samsung Galaxy S5 before this one. I feel that touchscreen on this phone isn't as smooth as the other phones. Even mid or low-ranged Oppo and Xiaomi have better touch response. Again I might be wrong as I haven't used Custom ROM yet. But I'll update this review for sure after using custom ROMs on this phone. Would hardly take 1-2 months. ?

Hi! Any Updates?

Is the LeEco le pro 3 Elite worth it in 2018?

Hi,
as the title suggests this smartphone is currently my top pick, i have a tight budget (120 euros/140 dollars); and the Le pro 3 sits comfortably at 116 euros shipped.
Would you recommend it? I have zero experience with modding but i'd like to learn; are the chanches of hard bricking it (x722) high? I would not be able to replace it for while.
Thanks!
At this price you can't get any better.
A few phones at this range might have a bet camera and the official support is almost non-existent, but it's beautiful, well-constructed, has good battery, a good community and it's super fast and smooth. Is runs everything without lags and the processor is equivalent with the ones of iPhone 6s Plus and Samsung Galaxy S7, 300€/400€ phones.
There are currently 13 Oreo ROMS for it and will surely be more, P included.
As long as you flash files compatible with x722, you will not brick it.
Normally, it costs 150€, so run for it. NOW!
P.S. I think you posted in the wrong place, maybe you can ask a moderator to move the topic.

Thanks! Just ordered it
My bad, i thought this was the right section, sorry.
It still worth it AS A FLAGSHIP.
why should be worth? you have a "OnePlus3" inside as hardware.
The right place would have been the questions and answers section.
Just make sure you use the ROMs for the x722 some are universal some are not if you stick with the le pro 3 elite x722 development section you'll be pretty safe as long as you're careful and read everything in the first post you should be OK just make sure and do a full backup in twrp and copy it to your PC in case of problems. If your unsure about something don't do it till you're certain you understand the guide. Good luck
Yes and no.
If you want a phone that just works then get something else. Yeah, the Le Pro 3 has better looks and internals than other phones but the software is never perfect.
Currently all Oreo Roms drain the battery pretty fast, battery life is still good but not outstanding anymore. Also there are always some other minor issues like a wonky signal, app crashes as so forth.
The Redmi Note 4 or Mi A1 are the obvious other choice. You're getting a more "stable" package but the phones don't feel as premium, the RN4 also has worse camera.

Ah ... bullcrap. What does it mean "Oreo..drain the battery pretty fast"?
In technical terms, I charge the battery in the range 20-85%, and this delta of 65% = 2,645 mAh.
That charge lasts me a week (my Nokia E71 would not last that long).
Standby discharge + some usage = avg. 0.5%/hr (20mA/hr), airplane mode overnite = 0.1%/hr (4 mA/hr)
Maybe A1 with Nougat lasts longer with smaller battery, than X72x with Oreo...
And the RN4? To beg the commies for letting me to unlock my phone?
Really?
At this moment, the X722s (X720s long gone) are disappearing from the [Chinese] warehouses, ergo the price went over $200,
but if one doesn't have to pay any duties/taxes ... it is still a bargain for this 2 years old phone. https://tinyurl.com/ydamcw9y

Thanks, i've already ordered it so not much i can do now.
Will oreo roms improve over time? Or is oreo itself that drains more battery?

Don't worry, the phone is fine. The battery still lasts quite long but I haven't gotten 9h screen on time on any Oreo ROM anymore. Things are constantly improving, you just need to spend a little time to reading the forums and flashing a new ROM now and then.

For me, Oreo doesn't drain the battery, i can play demanding games for 6 hours. SOT can last for days(and I'm using performance mode)

Don't worry. I have 8h/9h of SOT with AEX rom and Blackscreen kernel.
Just follow the instructions and get support in telegram, xda, google +...
The xiaomi phones referred are pure crap comparing to Le Pro 3.p

Thanks, do you mind sharing your rom/kernel?
After skimming throught the forum i think i'm going to flash AICP, it comes with a kernel that should help tuning performace/battery, right?

Latest aicp, using blackscreen 5.1r2 oc (latest) (and after, in settings you can set to battery/balanced/performance profiles, tweak with lspeed and than with kernel Adiutor... I tweaked my phone for maximum performance (+ battery) that's why i have only 6h hard/demanding game session)

Oc kernel is not included. You can find it on dev sections.

Just trade p20 pro for this and a laptop, need advice on battery replacement

Looks like my xl 2 is in need of a battery, she drains from 100--->80 in the first hour I'm home. I've found many online but thought I would ask the community if anyone has found a reputable dealer for replacement batteries. I've had issue with past iPhone batteries being less than stellar.
Also ****ing love this phone, couldn't have gotten rid of my P20 fast enough!
Try rooting and using Flash Kernel. Insane battery life.

Just wasn't a fan of the stock EMUI and then there wasn't much in the world of roms or kernels. I mean project treble was nice, I loved the havoc rom as it ran smooth and had some nice customization. It just didnt have the notch figured out yet or some other P20 pro specifics fingerprint etc. I wasn't blown away by the battery by any stretch even since, day one. The camera was however quite impressive, the night mode especially and great portraits. Soon as I got my hands on this pixel though, fell in love and not sure why it just, its just a nice device haha.

Will try that not before heading out for work, I just can tell by a few small features on the device that its not spring chicken so my assumption is its at least a year plus old.
*** Edit
So after literally download and flashing that kernel, typing just this edit using my phone I'm down 3%. Maybe it takes a bit to optimize I'm not really sure. I will say it does at least last me an entire day! (On the Stock kernel I mean)

You're Pixel 2XL can't be a year plus old. They we're announced October 4th of last year, so they weren't available even a year ago.

Oh well then lol, I guess I'm the idiot!
Just seems weird the battery drain is incredible. Maybe my expectations are simply just high, either way very pleased with the device

You're not an idiot. Well, I don't know I've never met you IRL. You could be, I guess, LOL.
Seriously, though, not doubting your bad battery life. It's likely a rogue app. Or maybe really poor radio signal so your phone is constantly polling for a stronger signal.
You could always try running in safe mode, which disables all 3rd party apps. If battery life improves, then you know it's an app causing the drain.
If that doesn't work, try running in airplane mode. This will always increase battery life, but if it takes care of your abnormal drain, then you know it's related to signal strength.
All else fails, do a factory reset, don't restore anything, and run it for a while with no 3rd party apps.
If that fails to fix it, it could simply be a hardware issue. Its an electronic device. They fail and do funky things sometimes. You could always call Google and see if they will RMA it for a bad battery. Or if you have a UBreakIFix store near you, go talk to them. They are a Google partner and the one here in town is very knowledgeable.

Haha that's awesome. That's actually quite useful information though I really appreciate that! I will try out those, I'm actually not running much aside from stock but I'll see what happens. Thanks again!

The battery life on the Pixel 2 XL should be better than that to be honest. Especially if you have Android Pie. Let me know how it goes? What is your SOT?

On my Pixel 2 XL i get about 2.5 hrs SOT with 70% remaining.
Heres a screenshot I guess that's not awful it's just seems like heavy drain when using it. I think I'm just being picky
I have replaced my 2xl display because it was shattered. I tried to replicate the original waterproofing sealing by using the black liquid adhesive.
That looks just about right. Both "full charge lasts about" and the SOT. At least that's what I get typically with my use.
