GCam for Moto g 5G - Moto G 5G Themes, Apps, and Mods

Have someone working GCam for our Moto?Wanna try-very dissapointed with the speed of focusing a photoshoot ...
thx in advance

I'm using Nikita GCam ver 7.4 and everything works. The image quality is better than stock but not so much. The main advantage is better low light photos and night mode. My old Pixel3a is making better photos, but overall the quality is not bad.
Link: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-Nikita/

Any reason not to use the latest version?
I installed it and it seems to function as advertised but I haven't had a chance to test it thoroughly.
Also any config files for our particular model?
Thanks!

Newer versions have changes that mostly cannot be implemented on our phone due to hardware and software differences.
I just made few changes, mostly ditched macro camera, and increased a bit exposure compensation. The file is attached.

Current state of OP3 camera

I've read a lot about the OOS camera and the various cameras in non OOS ROMs (CM, Aosp, etc). I was wondering if we have gotten to a point where they perform similarly. I've heard mixed opinions.
Also why does OnePlus not release the camera source? They eventually released dash charging source, so I'm curious as to why they wouldn't do the same for the camera?
From what i've experienced, almost all well-lit shots (Both outdoor and indoor) perform almost as well on non-OOS ROMs as they do on OOS. For the discerning eye, OOS shots are still more crisp, but there is enough of a parity there that i don't think most people would notice. Any shot that isn't well-lit, OOS has non-OOS beat. Sometimes by a little, sometimes by a wide margin. In poor lighting, the non-OOS ROMs have gotten better, but it's still pretty clear that OOS is the better performer. Almost all of the issues with these shots come down to the noise cancellation.
When it comes to video, it's a mixed bag. On OOS 3.5.3 community build, the 1080P 60fps mode is amazingly fluid, and for the most part fantastic. The 4k mode is decent from what i can tell, although i don't really use it that much. The slow motion mode is great. On non-OOS ROMs, it depends on the ROM really. SultanXDA's ROM with his custom HAL probably has the best performance as far as video goes. The built-in camera app does a decent job at 1080p video and the 4k seems OK, but again, i don't use that mode very often. Video performance in other camera apps seems decent. On OOS 3.2.6, i had some issues with video performance though, so it's not all roses there if that's the version you're running.
Carl Pei has made it clear on Twitter and on a Reddit AMA that OnePlus will never release a fully open source camera stack. I suspect that this probably has to do with proprietary noise suppression algorithms and some other proprietary optimizations that OnePlus has engineered. It needs to be mentioned that the camera hardware is only one part of the equation when it comes to camera performance. There are a number of software components that go into a full camera experience. There really needs to be both to get full utilization out of a piece of camera hardware. As far as i've heard, OnePlus is "looking at ways" to bring the full OOS camera experience to non-OOS ROMs, but nobody really knows what that entails as of yet.

Thanks for the excellent explanation!
Also worth considering that the camera isn't manufactured by one plus, can't remember what off hand who's sensor they're using, so they would need manufacturers permission to release driver source.

Rear camera sensor is SONY IMX298 Exmor RS
Front camera sensor is SONY IMX179
On topic: i have always used Nexus and loved changing ROMs and trying new roms. With oneplus 2 i could do it, because of a good camera port, but in this phone... OOS is a must if you want to take decent pictures
Oos 3.5.2 camera is insanely good and super fast. Really its faster than iphone 6s plus camera with oos
Luckily we have xposed framework, so we can customize our op3 using oos roms, but yeah... It kinda sucks we have to use oos just because of camera. It doesnt matter app you use in custom roms, it will lack libs, drivers etc...
Same as FPS. OOS is insanely fast but with any custom ROM (even with released sources) its slower (still fast but i notice that difference)
Edit: btw oos is a pretty nice ROM.
Lacks customization? Yes, but xposed framework will do that
compared to S7 or HTC 10 the OnePlus3 camera sux
Only For camera I can't use any Custom rom
Sadly comment here.. Cz i tasted all rom here and There iso no good camera custom rom.. all custom camera sucks ?..
Now i am using 3.2.4 cz 3.2.6 camera also missing focus on right place.. and I love to capture regular macro shot via my mobile...
But i buy it also tested custom rom.. but i can'T!! only for bad camera ??

For Those Of Us With T-Mobile Variants (Camera)

I can at least remind you of one consolation while we endlessly wait for an update to match what our international counterparts have gotten; you can download the .apk for the camera in that update now, and enjoy better photos. I emplore you all to do so, it is noticably better.

What is the version number of the updated camera app? I'm currently running version 3.8.87 on my 7T (Tmo).
3.8.87 is the newest. At least in mine, my version before updating was 3.8.7x. possibly why my photos have been bad this whole time. Some might be on different versions, since the camera app isn't in the play store?
Okay. I pulled 3.8.87 from apkmirror.
I have not noticed any major difference at all between 3.8.87 and older versions. I was always happy with the photos. I only wish wide angle and zoom lenses would be available in Pro mode.

For me, I've gotten better main camera photos, roughly the same 2x photos, and DRAMATICALLY better low light photos. Not exactly sure what version I had (I want to say 3.8.75, but it's been better for me personally.
When I converted from TMO to Global 10.0.7, the camera performance was very noticeable. It's actually caused me to start using it as compared to StarCam or GCam.

No PRO mode in 108 MP??

I just saw this in a review, is this true?
I am personally shocked this is not supported.. That is one of the reasons I want the Ultra, so that is the shot I'm taking is in ideal conditions I can get a full 108 MP photo with amazing results.. Does anyone know if there going to allow in the future?
It's true just discovered this myself
There really is no 108mp. It is 12mp that should be better than other 12mp. I know this is not glitzy as 108mp but is real.
There is no 100x zoom either. There very good 4x zoom
If anything troubles me it is that pro mode does not support the wide camera nor the 4x camera. There is no way to take raw photos with either of those. I find the HEIC abysmal. I need to see if JPEG is any better.
The raw from the main camera looks pretty good though. Perhaps better than other phones. You get verygood 12mp DNG file. That is impressive and great. You can also get RAW from the front camera.
The 4x zoom if not opened at 100% even in heic looks good. Heic though produces some awful smudging of details and halo effects
Kind of defeats the purpose.
AND not having development due to a locked bootloader.
May have to (keep) the favor to iOS side.
Seriously.

No Pro Mode Except for Standard Wide Angle
Pro Mode (raw format) is a must for me in both Ultrawide and Telephoto. Since this is a simple software fix, anyone hear if and when it will happen? Makes no sense that some beancounter in the system didn't allow full Pro Mode from the start!
Hey guys! Could you download this app called Camera2 Test from the play store? It reads all the features that all the cameras have implemented with the Camera 2 API. I'm curious if a 108mp RAW mode is there. You can go to the full tab in the app and share the file in here. Thanks in advance! (perferably from az exynos device, but both would be preferred!)
EDIT: There is another app Camera2 API Probe. Just need to scroll down, share, and it will generate a link. Sorry for the inconvenience!

I uploaded one raw and couple of post processing options. One is without corrections and the other (warmer one) is to my liking. I used Lightroom.

I am yet to do a bit more photography with the S20 ultra. Here is an album of photos I took from a walk before the quarantine in my country. I will put more photos in there as I get more experience with the phone when I go out after the quarantine.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/kirilk/albums/72157713487224503
It is very fitting to my expectations. I wanted a phone camera that has wide angle and optical magnification higher than 75mm equivalent, Between 100 mm to 135 mm equivalent was my dream. SO S20 ultra is exactly that 12mm wide angle (excellent, 105mm equivalent telephoto is excellent too. There is also the larger main 12MP sensor I like. Yes it can do 108MP with tons of mathematics and that would likely get you a bit more detail at the cost of dynamic range and noise.....
PS I would very much appreciate if Samsung give us RAW files form the telephoto and wide angle. I know wide angle has distortion and likely the telephoto suffers vignetting and or distortion too but Lightroom can fix those things. Samsung should add another camera app meant for photo enthusiasts.. RAW files with high bit depth and latitude for editing in post should be the emphasis there.

Thank you so much. If i understand correctly, the flickr photos are before the update, and the dropbox are after the update right?
All photos in the above post use the same software . I got one update immediately as I installed the phone.
G988BXXU1ATBM (there are two more version strings I guess for other hardware modifications) ,431,19MB in size containing the 1st of March security updates

Thank you for your efforts! I watched a video from India today. They got the ATC1/H update first. It looks very promising, take a look:
https://youtu.be/wZoWAben4CA
The old news about the ATC2 update from Korea are somewhat misleading since the update with the lower number brings improvements that where not to be seen in the ATC2 video from Korean user which we all have probably seen.
I just got an update to .......ATCH and can confirm AF works now pretty well including close up.
RAW from telephoto or wide angle is not available . Camera2 API does not see the telephoto camera.
So I guess AF is likely the only fix.

[GCam] Working Port 7.4

Got my hands on this nice phone about a month ago and so far I'm more than satisfied, but I was definitely missing good ol' Google Cam.
Since nobody pointed it out yet, here goes - Moto G 5G Plus owners are in luck. Arnova's port is working flawlessly on this phone.
I'm using build 5.1beta1.200620.1924build-7.4.104 and so far, so good.
DOWNLOAD
Everything seems to be in working order - didn't even need the "canonical" post-installation reboot - and in three weeks it only occurred to me twice that I had to reboot the phone because it stopped saving pics. And in both cases I had been using both this and the Moto camera app together, so there's that.
Quality feels good - very similar to Moto's own camera but with less compressed and with more intense colors. Calculation of ISO is where I could really see the difference - GCam is noticeably more precise at this time.
As you may guess, it does not support macro mode. Personally, I just switch between the camera apps when I need to/feel like it.
Haven't tried the most recent beta from Arnova yet, will update the thread if I do.
Nikita's 7.4 port also seems to work reasonably well - even down to being able to add and use the auxillary cameras (all bar the depth camera take photos)
Any recomendations for configs ?
I've installed Nikita's 7.4 port, does anyone have a recommend config? Either the XML or just some idea's on things to tweak? The difference between the Motorola camera app and Gcam on my old Moto G8 Plus was very obvious, but the difference (IMHO) is less pronounced on the Moto G 5G Plus but I suspect I need to change a few settings first to get the best out of GCam.

Thank you! I had to join Telegram to get the XML file but it's made quite a big difference.
Which version of Nikita do you or should I use?
There's a two different versions;
NGCam_7.4.104-v1.9_eng.apk (com.google.android.GoogleCameraEng)
NGCam_7.4.104-v1.9_snap.apk (org.codeaurora.snapcam)
And a newer version v2.0
NGCam_7.4.104-v2.0
Do I need root access?

Don't know for sure, but it most likely will. This port version works on a number of phones, and AFAIK there are not many differences in this regard between the Plus' and non-Plus' hardware and drivers.
Give it a try and remember to reboot the phone afterwards. Clean up app data if you installed a previous version.
what about version:
GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.5.apk
I installed it a few days ago and it seems to be working well so far.

Question how is the camera quality ?

does Asus rog 6 pro compete with the s22 ultra or iphone 13 pro max ?
Nowhere near.
It's definitely a league below, particularly in low light & video quality. A solid B- compared to the A-listers.
It's okay to good, for general social media requirements/ daytime photography.

I looked a lot of review, the right hardware is there, the main problem is the camera software i will try with gcam apk and/or with some other camera application from Google store. Cameras software is the only weak point of this phone
Nope. You don't buy ROG devices if camera quality is a big thing for you. It does the job - that's it.
Try this gcam from BSG and my config file. Tell me what you think. Cheers.
as mentioned by some, the hardware is there but software is bad, even with gcam the results are poor due to bad API implementation.
6D ultimate here - inconsistent performance. sometimes it can be ok, sometimes it's crap.
imprecise blurring for portraits
lacks detail
inconsistent exposure
generally favours day light, and poor with low light

Snapdragon even worse. Suffers from the exact same issues, however its just worse. It's generally accepted that the camera software is beta at best.
I'd love to see a full proper gcam port done for this phone
This whole phone is obsolete at its price. Everyone knew SD8 Gen 2 is coming shortly after the ROG 6, now it is here and every new phone out there will now smash this gaming phone AND offer a twice as good camera performance at a lower price.

Thanks a lot for sharing these files.
Does the GCam package automatically replace the standard camera app?
Do you like the improvements?
As others, I believe the hardware itself should be just fine (not sure about the lenses, though) but the software is letting the phone down regarding IQ out of the box.
