My PX6 goes BOOOOM!!!! - MTCD Android Head Units General

Hello folks,
I have a PX6 unit with Android 10 in a VW T5 Multivan, 2007.
Everything except the FM radio worked fine for a few months (very bad reception) but I was happy because I only use navigation and sound over bluetooth from my phone.
One day I got some noice from the speakers as a small warning before a big BOOOM a few seconds later. It is a really loud "discharge" from the speakers and obviously not good for the unit. Feels like a mini thunderstorm inside my car The head unit goes back to normal after the big bang but the noice starts building up again and a few minutes later, the same thing.
After the third BOOOM the amplifier broke and I could no longer hear any sound from apps and bluetooth (FM radio was still working)
I contacted the seller and he sent me a new amplifier. Hard work for me, but I desoldered the old one and replaced it. It worked and I was back to normal for a while.
Today, the big BOOOOM was back.
Any idea what can cause this behavior and how to solve it before I burn my second amp?
TIA,
David

Ooops. I remember incorrectly after I double checked. It is an MTCE unit. Which forum is the best for my question?

Which MTCB head unit has no microphone issue?-

I'm looking to purchasing a MTCB double din head unit, however, I've been reading about microphone issues even with external microphones. This requires hardware modification to fix for some models. However, I cannot determine if all units are like this, or only some. Please let me know!
Thanks!
All the devices I have seen are basically the same and I think actuall built by the same people. They are just sold by many different vendors. So I don't think any of them are free from this problem. The repair itself is not too bad, a fine tip soldering iron really helps. But if anyone knows one without the problem I would be happy to be wrong!
I have a Joying HU and have not done the mic mod or even hooked up the external mic. Using only the onboard mic, my android voice control works fine and BT calls work as expected. Friends say I sound fine and no echo issues on their end.
I too have a joying unit with no mic issues. I think there might have been a hardware revision recently. FWIW pumpkin is selling what looks to be a MTCB with a parrot bluetooth in it.

I've the new Pumpkin and the microphones are still in parallel making the sound as bad as it use to be. No real improvement. Had to cut the wires
on the front one.
The thing is that they promise 24h response, but sine it's Chinese New Year the response time is 7 days.
I have a joying and did not connect the external mic. Bluetooth works fine, I hear them and they hear me no problem. I had an Erisin with no external mic and had no problems either.
I was just wondering which country people are in, I am in Australia so we drive on the right hand side of the car and the mic is on the left hand side of the units, therefore the mic is closer to the user [potentially] than us, maybe that is why it is clearer? just a thought bubble.
LHD, wouldn't think RHD would effect it much, if any. Road noise and speech volume would have a greater effect.

Joying 2GB RAM 8 inch - installed with pics

Hey guys,
Not sure if i'm the first on this forum to receive my joying 8inch head unit but i got it last friday and installed it the same day. This thing is awesome.
I've never had an android head unit but i've been hovering around these forums for about 2 months waiting for a 2gb unit to come out. I got on the new joying unit right when it came out and purchased it on amazon right away. Their customer service was awesome, they made sure i had the tools needed to install it before they shipped it out (which i did). and it still only took 4 days to get to me (central USA).
Coming from a $600 pioneer head unit i could not be happier. This is awesome. If you guys would like some more pics, or information feel free to post here or email me at [email protected]. Also i am the only one to have a review on amazon so far
Won't let me put images cause i'm still new to posting.. so here is the URL broken up

Installed steering wheel controls. It was not to bad, would of only taken a few minutes if i would of known what to do. I own a Subaru WRX 2010. I had to wire Key 2 to Pin #4 and Pin #14 to ground.
You will have a car crash soon...
When you keep driving and taking/posting fotos (of your android radio) and fidling arround.
But thanks for the first impression. Looks like they changed the equalizer software from the fake 9 to a honest 3-Band EQ.
Anything about the Audio Quality?
Greetings

Seems good. better then the previous aftermarket radio i had in the car.
Also I did not make the post while driving.
Will you be rooting the device anytime soon? Any bluetooth issues with regards to connecting multiple devices/call quality? any problems with the mic?

Not sure if i need to root it as everything i want i think i can get without. i'm open to hearing arguements about why i should root it though.
I have not tested out multiple devices on the bluetooth, i can do that later today. I have not tested the Mic as i do not make phone calls often. The microphone it came with seems to be almost identical to the one that came with my pioneer, just like a $6 mic you can get on amazon.

@ AeonSaber:
please can you post a pitcure about your system information with the MCU version and show me the url about your purchase?
Interested in the mic quality also. Will be installing mine in a F150 with the factory sync system and hoping the mic quality is on par.
Question about the subwoofer settings on these units, are there any you can adjust like low-pass filter and/or cutoff frequencies and stuff?

I just installed an 8" in my Prius Plug-in, I couldn't get the steering wheel control and backup camera to work after 2 days of messing with it. So I took it to Best Buy to get that working. Tech support at Joying sucks and it takes 24 hours to get a reply from them.
Bluetooth connects to the phone, but music doesn't play, fm reception sucks, and it won't read my 128gig sdcard. I haven't had a chance to really get into it yet, but I will when I get it back from Best Buy and I'll repost then with a full report.

The FM reception is fine in my car, that is weird that it is not going well for you, maybe you could give the antenna more power. To get the 128gb sd card to work i had to put it in my phone first, my phone formatted it correctly for android, then i threw it into my radio. If you'd like some help with other things i am more than happy if you email me.
Also their customer support has been good to me so far, yes it takes a while for them to reply because their business hours are when we are sleeping. lol
I'm not crazy about the 8"+ units because they look like a tablet duct taped to the dashboard. The DDIN 7" all-glass units are supposed to be available soon. It would be nice if they'd increase the screen size on the DDIN units, there is enough bezel to increase to at LEAST 7.5, maybe even 8". You certainly don't need the row of capacitive buttons on Android, since they're just duplicated from on-screen buttons anyway!

Did you end up testing the multiple bt connection ? Like with a phone and an obd2?
Is the microphone 'visible' to Android on these? Ie, can you use voice commands ('Ok google'), etc?
I can't believe I'm considering going back down this road, but my Newsmy Android box bit the dust (head unit part is OK), and I don't have the time or energy to really push my DIY project.

I did not get around to trying this out. i did try to pair my ODB adapter and gave up after 5 secconds, was going to google it as this is my first android radio. Did not try out multiple phones. I will try to remember to do the ODB after work today but no promises.

Quickest thing to do would probably bring up some app (sound recorder?) that can use the MIC and see if it works. Google Maps, Google Search, etc.
I'm not familiar with the MTC series, but almost all of the android head units utilize an 'MCU' (in this case made my microntek) to control the analog audio sources, and mixes in the digital (Android) audio. That analog audio is typically not 'visible' to android (ie, you cannot record FM radio as the Android board only controls the operation of the radio through the MCU. It doesn't actually run that audio through an ADC back to Android.).
In most of the devices I've seen, the MIC port is wired to the Bluetooth HFP module, which is not actually part of the Android board. It's one of those 'analog sources' that the Android box can control through MCU commands, but the underlying I/O is invisible to the system.
How sturdy is it? I have a double din opening that is a little to small and would need to be trimmed to fit. I was thinking since the single din would be completely covered by the larger screen, I wouldn't need to modify the opening. Does it move when using it? I won't be able to stand it if it moves around or makes any rattle sounds. Thanks in advance for your input.

Seems sturdy. the screen mounts on 4 points to the single din, they are fully adjustable. It does not move at all when i touch it.
Where did you order your unit from? Amazon or directly from Joying? I would rather order through amazon for the better customer service but if they aren't shipping until the end of nov/beginning of dec I would order through Joying to receive it sooner.

Eonon GA8162 - Only one speaker working when using music apps or BT

Hi,
Fairly strange issue and it's quite lengthy so bear with me. 3 weeks ago I had my Eonon GA8162 head unit professionally installed and I believed everything was fine. Controls worked, reversing camera, google maps and I was getting sound from all speakers using the radio. However, once I got home and installed Google play music I realised I was only getting sound from the front left speaker. The front right and rear left were extremely low about 5% of the front left, and there was no sound at all from the rear right. I tested this with a few other music apps and the results were identical. I then tried bluetooth, first a phone call and sound was produced correctly in both front speakers. When using bluetooth music, the sound issue returned affecting the same speakers. Lastly I tried a CD and sound played in all speakers, albeit it slightly lower in the rear speakers.
To add more fun to this tale, a few days later I was driving and listening to Google music with the speaker faults and an hour into my journey the front right magically also started to play at full power. The rear speakers were still low but I had sound in the two front speakers and that was an achievement!! I had an appointment back at the car stereo shop the same day for them to investigate, so went along anyway. Turned the engine off, went in the store, came out to show them the miracle, started the car and the sound problem was back again. In the three weeks of owning the stereo the front right has magically corrected itself only once more, failing again after the engine is turned off completely.
I've tried all the obvious things- the balance settings, soft reset, hard reset and today Eonon sent me a software update to fix it and it's still the same after installing it. In fact it's worst as I'm not getting any noticeable sound from the three struggling speakers unless at extremely high volume and even then it's a struggle to hear something. All the speakers in the car are stock, there isn't a subwoofer or external amp and the Eonon headunit replaced the stock stereo. The stereo is plug and play more or less, so there were no wires to figure out. I have seen comments pop up here and there about doing something with the Amp CTR wire, but that seems to be for people who have external amplifiers. Am I missing something or am I looking to deep and it's just a faulty unit which needs to be replaced?
Any help or advice with this appreciated.
Thanks
i have the same unit ( is for Ford Mondeo , right ? ) and i have instaled by my self ....in your place , first i will check if with the original stereo car the speaker works well . If its work , in my opinion , the Eonon unit is definitely faulty . If they work the same way , problem is with the speaker or wires ... i have it problem with the front speaker also and i replaced with a after market one ( Blaupunkt ) some time ago ...
Hi GabiDan. I've since agreed to return the unit with Eonon. It's taken an age to get to this point due to the time difference, their 'interesting' replies and needing to satisfy the various troubleshooting bits they wanted me to do.
Up until this point I'd done the following- soft and hard reset, completely unplugged the unit and reconnected it and most recently installed a patch provided by Eonon. None of which worked. Since removing the Eonon unit and reconnecting the factory Ford 6000CD stereo, sound is fine out of all speakers. So it's definitely a faulty Eonon unit. Everything else was completely fine with the unit, none of the woes I often hear about i.e. sat nav, reverse camera and so on.
Hopefully I have better luck with the replacement unit. Will keep you posted.

Hi guys
I am thinking of buying this unit for my mondeo 2012.its the facelift model and i am considering if it will fit. My radio is the ford 6000cd so i am pretty sure it will fit. My dash is the black colour not the silver on the old models. Does anyone have the facelift model?
Is it a good unit as it shows or are there any known problems? Thanks for the help
Hi just read about your sound problems ,I'm having the same issue with a different model of eonon (GA7153A) the interesting thing is that it is a completely different cpu and it is different version of andriod . its got me worried that they can send me a new one. Is your replacement still working?

According to Eonon's website, it only supports stereos in Mondeo models between 2008 and 2011. Double check on their website or the attached screenshot to see if the stereo you currently have installed is the correct one.

The replacement stereo has been absolutely fine. My sound problem hasn't returned and I haven't experienced any of the common issues spoken about with defective units.
I think all in all, the process of me retuning the item and receiving my replacement took about 7-10 days. Maybe less.
Go for it and the sooner the better. As they'll ask you to do diagnostic tests, try a firmware patch to fix it, etc. Before you get to the return stage.

Electrical noise?

I have a MTCD GS unit for an Audi TT and I get a feint electrical noise constantly through the cars speakers. If you have music or the radio on it is not too noticable but otherwise it is really obvious. It is definitely the unit as it isn't there with the stock head unit and if you hard reset the GS unit with the reset button whilst it is running it immediately goes away until the unit has booted. It was originally supplied with a RK3188/PX3 board running Android 5.0. I have since replaced the board with a PX5 board and have upgraded it to Android 8.0 (Malaysk). I isn't a software issue and is down to the hardware (I think...).
I have tried disabling WiFi and BlueTooth - although I don't think BlueTooth can be disabled as its not a native Android component of the system - and the noise remains. It is a feint pop and hiss noise that I think is an earth/grounding issue. I was going to replace the cable that goes to the WiFi antenna on the rear socket as this looks flimsy, however I am not sure it will make a difference.
Any ideas?
Andy
dirty power maybe? did you connect a chassis ground for the 0v on the unit.. my harness came with a ground with ring terminal..

I have exactly same problem. But when the colors on LCD screen black : electrical noise increases. Any other color : electrical noise decreases. I will check groundings of unit in this weekend. I ll write here if i find out anything.

It shouldn't be dirty power as it connects into the factory loom. I'll take it out at weekend and see if grounding the chassis of the head unit to the car does anything.
Andy
I had this problem on my ksp. Ultimately I found opamps under the sound processor with dirty ground on the feedback resistors. I substituted resistors to the processor board ground header lead. Now all I hear is my fan.
I took the head unit out last weekend and tried earthing the chassis to the car and it made no difference - you can still hear the feint pops and hiss (all I can think to describe it is radio interference?). I also noticed that it gets worse when the cars lights are on and the head unit backlights come on (via CANBUS telling it I assume?).
It is a MTCD GS unit and has an external 'dongle' that is covered with heatshrink that is inline with the audio outputs. This has something to do with the level of the audio out - however I am just guessing here TBH.
Any other ideas how to eliminate this noise?
Cheers

I had the same noise issue when the PX3 board was installed and this has a much smaller heatsink than the PX5?
I'll give it a shot but its a bit more involved than just taking the unit out of the car though...

So, you also have that noise before upgrading the core board, have you any chance to temporaly install another common radio like low budget Pionner, Alpine or similar? If yes check if the noise persist; some TT owners with noise from speakers said that the cause is the factory amplifier.
Have luck!
i have heard that the problem may be from the antenna, try getting a noise filter for the antenna
Record the noise with a video. Some quiet electrical noise is common, but we're talking almost silent and only when no music is playing at all.

I have the same thing on my A3 and although it doesn’t really bother me I’d be interested to see if someone finds a fix. On the A3’s it only affects the ones with Bose.
All my cabling is exactly the same as yours aswell.
I once emailed a company that sells the factory Bose amps for the audis and reconditions them and the bloke said that the signal sent to the Bose amp from the aftermarket headunit is different to the signal that is sent from the factory unit so I’d guess it’s something to do with that.
In regards to the dongle thing in heatshrink, that is a little board with a plug on it that the audio cables plug into. My speakers stopped working so I cut that open once and the connector had become unplugged inside. I think it’s there because the blue amp cable is connected through it aswell which is supposed to be for the amp to turn it on and that blue cable never used to be there on the older model units.
I have the same issue on my brand new dasaita 10.2 inch px5 android 8. Connected through RCA to my amp.
I will do some troubleshooting and see if I can figure it out.
BTW, there is a very loud static noise when my bluetooth is connected to my phone, I emailed dasaita about that particular issue.

I have the same unit with the same issues. Hot Audio sent me a replacement bluetooth module to solder in. That fixed the bluetooth noise. I still have slight background hiss all the time.
could you guys please take a look at my issue which includes electrical noise - even when radio is off.
e.g.
- downloading maps on Sygic, there is a clicking that goes with the increase in % of the download.
- browsing the menu and / or selecting apps has a varying noise
Interestingly, the rear-camera power seems unstable as does the GPS.
I also noted, that i couldn't power the unit on the bench via the vw quadlock connector, i had to use the white connector.
Makes me wonder if there is some general grounding problem that is the problem.

I have an equal problem with my eonon px3 7.1, which is then klyde. Light rustling always constant, then when I register with the front usb camera the noise is much higher and seems a squeak of mouse .. I changed mb sent by them but the problem remains, even connecting the ground to the chassis of the car. Quache solution please guys, I'm going crazy.

I have the same isue, almost gone when changed the poor quality antenna from the WIFI (used a 9DB antenna)
Pick one from amazon,

You can try to purchase a extension canble an antenna and put away from the unit and the engine.
In my case the pops and hiss almos gone and are barely noticiable.
The qualty of the original antenna is horrible.

I have a couple of spare SMA WiFi antennas that I can try. If I get some time later today I'll try and get the head unit out of the dash and try them. I'll post whether it makes any difference (the spare antenna I have might also be crap though...).
Andy
What I found helped is that I put some ferrite beads on the power cables to the headunit and the speaker cables from the unit. It hasn’t totally removed the issue but it is certainly better and I haven’t lost any sound quality(if anything it’s slightly better as there’s less interference).

[PX5] Belsee BP3 head unit - Peugeot 308 (2007-2011)

Hi.
I recently bought an MTCE PX5 based head unit for my french Peugeot 308 (2009).
The manufacturer seems to be Klyde as the version number (MTCE_KLD_V2.88b_1) says.
The installation in the car was pretty easy and plug & play thanks to your help on the main PX5 thread.
Still I have a few questions that you might have answers for
First, the head unit sounds pretty crappy.
My previous Parrot Aseroid Smart (slowish Android 2.3 / 512 MB) had a way much better sound output quality.
I will try to flash one of Cs-x's sound patchs, see if it goes better with that update.
The main problem comes from a lot of noises I get from the head unit "gzzzz" "pshhhh", it reminds me of the good old times with the computers ****ty front panel audio
When I call someone, they barelly hear me. Have you guys been experiencing such noises ?
--> Fixed by flashing one of Cs-x's patched firmwares
Then there are my rear sensors.
They are successfully detected and provided to the head unit by the CANBUS decoder provided by the seller, but they don't beep !
The seller didn't provide the amplified external speaker needed so I must do it the DIY way...
I managed to solder RCA connectors to that audio signal and I can hear the beeps when I switch for AV1 on the unit : good... but my back camera is connected to the CAM1 input wich is automatically displayed when I engage the reverse gear.
Is there a way to ask my head unit to switch to AV1 instead of CAM input when I engage reverse ?
That would be perfect as I will get the video from the back camera AND the audio from the sensors !
An other issue : my car's service counter is going crazy !
As I drove a few meters, the service counter droped near a thousand kilometers since next service.
This will result in service light flashing in a few days, for at least 12 month until my next real service :
Any idea ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Damien
Ok guys, I managed to fix my first issue simplt by flashing one of those Cs-x sound patched firmwares !
Thanks for that !
Any advice for getting sound & video for ma rear sensors & camera ?
Bump, any idea ?
I got an other big issue with my canbus decoder...
See first post (photos), my service odometer seems to freak out a bit
Interesting as I just looked at this company for one for my Mazda CX7..
Just sent them an email on it..
Want the 4meg 32g version..
Seems also while they work with the Bose system already the reverse cam that comes with the car may not work.. need to confirm..
Hi Dgcruzing
Did you have any response from Belsee ?
Usually they answer within 2 days.
Yes, they popped back an answer.
But ended up going with a Dasaita.
Seems plenty of resellers of thier unit across the usual channels.. so with luck it all goes to plan..
Rear sensors
I have a Peugeot 208 and Dasaita unit, so slightly different and this may not help. But I had issues with reverse sensors and did not realise I had to install the supplied speaker. The beeps from the reverse sensors do not come out of the main speakers in the car, only the extra speaker provided.
Thanks Downerhouse for your message.
Indeed, my unit has this connector too, but there was no speaker in shipped the box
I tried many speakers and piezzo buzzers, but none of them worked.
I managed to attach a RCA connector to this output so I could at least plug the rear sensors sound output into my AUX input... but that's really not practical...
Bump
New ideas.
I read in a french forum that I could easily modify the car's ECU so the rear parking sensors output directly through the cars COM2000 (that's the direction switch, behind the steering wheel) instead of the classical audio circuit. I will check this.
