Eonon GA8162 - Only one speaker working when using music apps or BT - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Hi,
Fairly strange issue and it's quite lengthy so bear with me. 3 weeks ago I had my Eonon GA8162 head unit professionally installed and I believed everything was fine. Controls worked, reversing camera, google maps and I was getting sound from all speakers using the radio. However, once I got home and installed Google play music I realised I was only getting sound from the front left speaker. The front right and rear left were extremely low about 5% of the front left, and there was no sound at all from the rear right. I tested this with a few other music apps and the results were identical. I then tried bluetooth, first a phone call and sound was produced correctly in both front speakers. When using bluetooth music, the sound issue returned affecting the same speakers. Lastly I tried a CD and sound played in all speakers, albeit it slightly lower in the rear speakers.
To add more fun to this tale, a few days later I was driving and listening to Google music with the speaker faults and an hour into my journey the front right magically also started to play at full power. The rear speakers were still low but I had sound in the two front speakers and that was an achievement!! I had an appointment back at the car stereo shop the same day for them to investigate, so went along anyway. Turned the engine off, went in the store, came out to show them the miracle, started the car and the sound problem was back again. In the three weeks of owning the stereo the front right has magically corrected itself only once more, failing again after the engine is turned off completely.
I've tried all the obvious things- the balance settings, soft reset, hard reset and today Eonon sent me a software update to fix it and it's still the same after installing it. In fact it's worst as I'm not getting any noticeable sound from the three struggling speakers unless at extremely high volume and even then it's a struggle to hear something. All the speakers in the car are stock, there isn't a subwoofer or external amp and the Eonon headunit replaced the stock stereo. The stereo is plug and play more or less, so there were no wires to figure out. I have seen comments pop up here and there about doing something with the Amp CTR wire, but that seems to be for people who have external amplifiers. Am I missing something or am I looking to deep and it's just a faulty unit which needs to be replaced?
Any help or advice with this appreciated.
Thanks

i have the same unit ( is for Ford Mondeo , right ? ) and i have instaled by my self ....in your place , first i will check if with the original stereo car the speaker works well . If its work , in my opinion , the Eonon unit is definitely faulty . If they work the same way , problem is with the speaker or wires ... i have it problem with the front speaker also and i replaced with a after market one ( Blaupunkt ) some time ago ...

Hi GabiDan. I've since agreed to return the unit with Eonon. It's taken an age to get to this point due to the time difference, their 'interesting' replies and needing to satisfy the various troubleshooting bits they wanted me to do.
Up until this point I'd done the following- soft and hard reset, completely unplugged the unit and reconnected it and most recently installed a patch provided by Eonon. None of which worked. Since removing the Eonon unit and reconnecting the factory Ford 6000CD stereo, sound is fine out of all speakers. So it's definitely a faulty Eonon unit. Everything else was completely fine with the unit, none of the woes I often hear about i.e. sat nav, reverse camera and so on.
Hopefully I have better luck with the replacement unit. Will keep you posted.

Hi guys
I am thinking of buying this unit for my mondeo 2012.its the facelift model and i am considering if it will fit. My radio is the ford 6000cd so i am pretty sure it will fit. My dash is the black colour not the silver on the old models. Does anyone have the facelift model?
Is it a good unit as it shows or are there any known problems? Thanks for the help

Hi just read about your sound problems ,I'm having the same issue with a different model of eonon (GA7153A) the interesting thing is that it is a completely different cpu and it is different version of andriod . its got me worried that they can send me a new one. Is your replacement still working?

According to Eonon's website, it only supports stereos in Mondeo models between 2008 and 2011. Double check on their website or the attached screenshot to see if the stereo you currently have installed is the correct one.

The replacement stereo has been absolutely fine. My sound problem hasn't returned and I haven't experienced any of the common issues spoken about with defective units.
I think all in all, the process of me retuning the item and receiving my replacement took about 7-10 days. Maybe less.
Go for it and the sooner the better. As they'll ask you to do diagnostic tests, try a firmware patch to fix it, etc. Before you get to the return stage.

Headphone jack issue

Hey people, I was wondering if anyone has had the faulty headphones issue. After a few days, my headphones stopped working properly, there was a lot of static and they need to be pushed and held towards the screen to function again. This is going on with 3 pairs so it's a phone fault.Maybe all the tech savvy experts here can chime in and propose something.
Thanks!
I have the exact same issue since yesterday... I already tried to clean the headphone jack with no effect so far.
I will unscrew the device and have a closer look at the headphone jack when I find time. Probably not today.

I was thinking of taking it to a local repair shop around here in the weekend. Whoever finds a solution first I guess. Also I have noticed this visi0nary. de/ ?p=30 (I can't post links yet). I think it looks similar

Sadly it's not the same problem visi0nary describes on his blog. The Mass contact is fine.
I had the phone open for a few minutes and it seems like all contact wrap thight around the plug. I guess the problem is a broken soldered point at the back of the circuit board.
I had no time to remove the board completly and check the back.
Maybe you can ask your repair shop guy what he did to fix it? Thanks.

Hey shadowseed,
I took it to a couple of guys in downtown Athens and none said they wanna take a look at an Elephone. And these were techie Asian guys lol. Let me know if you find anything via pm or through here. Thanks. I'll keep looking myself otherwise I'll buy bluetooth headphones.
the problem with bluetooth headphones is that Elephone set the Bluetooth A2DP Bitpool to 35 (basically means compressed data = better range and quicker transfer rate ) which results in terrible sound quality over Bluetooth audio.
I'm not an audiophile but I can't listen to music over bluetooth in my car like I used to with my previous device, it sounds horrible.
This is a software issue but it can't be fixed with a root app or something like this, it's set in the bluetooth drivers. There is a setting under "Sounds & Notifications" called "Lossless BT-Mode", but it does nothing... or not enough, I'm not sure. The Bitpool needs to be raised to 52 or higher for "lossless" mp3 playback.
I wouldn't have bought this phone if I had known this...
UPDATE: I fixed it. This soldering point broke. I didn't solder it, I put a piece of cardboard under the circuit board which presses against the shell. I did this yesterday in the afternoon and used it multiple times since then, it seems to work great.
Put some solder on every point now. That fixed the problems for me, looked like there was no solder there.
Same on my phone >.< seems that the headphone jack has been horribly designed/built then!
The design is excellent, but there are multiple points with no solder on top, just glued or something. That can obviously not work in the long term.. The fix is very easy if you have a soldering iron, you don't need precision tools.
Hello
I have the same problem. I've bought it a few days ago (it has not one month).
What can I do? This phone is warranted?
Thanks,
Diego

Could you please give us a detailed tutorial on how to open up the elephone?
I've tried it today (got the same problem) and failed on removing the white case from the fingerprint scanner.
You can see here: KlickKlack
I've tried soldering the points today and the connection seems more stable for now.
No more bzzing in idle when using headphones (Teufel Aureol), but the quality still sounds like some bad compressed mp3.
Pushing the plug (display frontfacing) to the back left seems to fix the problem.
I've tried putting cardboard between the 3.5mm port and the casing of the phone but no luck.
When using in-ears (some cheap philips) there is still a semi-loud bzzing in the backgroud and since the cable goes sideways there is no way of getting a stable connction.
Did I do faulty soldering or might I've broken the port with the soldering iron?

i'm in the business too, since two days, bought a bt dongle, with eragon rom no bad sound issue, but the asycronious in videos of sound and lips movement is bad, so i have to solder...i need an iron, tomorrow i will try, i hope i will fix it. what about warranty??
thanks for the solutions
I don't care much for warranty on a china phone...
I had the problem that the right in ear speaker didn't work but the left one was okay. But after some time even the left got worse and wasn't usable anymore.
Then I opened the Elephone and soldered the parts of the audio jack (like in the picture above).
It improved the audio quality but it still works only for the left speaker. How do I get both working?

Joying 4.4 Rk3188 - BT call audio missing

Hey guys,
I purchased this unit from Amazon and absolutely love the radio, but I've tried to get 4 different modern phones to connect their call audio through the radio, but all I get is silence. I can hear the unit switch audio inputs but nothing comes through the speakers.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015IVIN9U/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
However, BT music streaming works just fine.
Video displaying the problem:

I ordered another unit in case one was bad, but still have the same problem.
The manufacturer seems responsive, but I'm losing patience, any suggestions to fix this problem?

Have you tried with another phone?
UnfortunatelyI tested with 4 phones:
Iphone 6s plus
LG V10
Samsung Note 5
HTC One M8
Almost feels like something is not wired properly, yet everything works fine except call audio.
What would cause media audio to work via BT, but not call audio?
The only item I can think of is the BT settings on the phone, but all phones were configured for call and media streaming.
Did you ever find a resolution to this issue?
Have been bench testing my new unit for that past week, was sad to discover this. At least it is able to alert a phone call in various ways.

Yes!
I sourced my amplifier using the rear RCA outputs on the Joying HU, after realizing that most manufacturers output call audio to the front channels only, I resolved the problem by moving my RCA cables to the front set of HU outputs.
Hope this helps others.
I ran into this with my wife's Iphone 6 today. My LG G3 works great, but the Iphone keeps switching back from bluetooth to itself for call audio. No amplifier in the car.
We are going to try updating the iOS on it and see if that makes any difference...

I could be way off here, but similar thing happened when I switched from Android to an iPhone. Found out that if you answer the call from your iPhone, it will switch to the iPhone earpiece. You have to answer incoming calls via the hands free device (your steering controls or the touchscreen) to keep the audio going through the Bluetooth.

Joying 2GB RAM 8 inch - installed with pics

Hey guys,
Not sure if i'm the first on this forum to receive my joying 8inch head unit but i got it last friday and installed it the same day. This thing is awesome.
I've never had an android head unit but i've been hovering around these forums for about 2 months waiting for a 2gb unit to come out. I got on the new joying unit right when it came out and purchased it on amazon right away. Their customer service was awesome, they made sure i had the tools needed to install it before they shipped it out (which i did). and it still only took 4 days to get to me (central USA).
Coming from a $600 pioneer head unit i could not be happier. This is awesome. If you guys would like some more pics, or information feel free to post here or email me at [email protected]. Also i am the only one to have a review on amazon so far
Won't let me put images cause i'm still new to posting.. so here is the URL broken up

Installed steering wheel controls. It was not to bad, would of only taken a few minutes if i would of known what to do. I own a Subaru WRX 2010. I had to wire Key 2 to Pin #4 and Pin #14 to ground.
You will have a car crash soon...
When you keep driving and taking/posting fotos (of your android radio) and fidling arround.
But thanks for the first impression. Looks like they changed the equalizer software from the fake 9 to a honest 3-Band EQ.
Anything about the Audio Quality?

Will you be rooting the device anytime soon? Any bluetooth issues with regards to connecting multiple devices/call quality? any problems with the mic?

Not sure if i need to root it as everything i want i think i can get without. i'm open to hearing arguements about why i should root it though.
I have not tested out multiple devices on the bluetooth, i can do that later today. I have not tested the Mic as i do not make phone calls often. The microphone it came with seems to be almost identical to the one that came with my pioneer, just like a $6 mic you can get on amazon.

please can you post a pitcure about your system information with the MCU version and show me the url about your purchase?
Interested in the mic quality also. Will be installing mine in a F150 with the factory sync system and hoping the mic quality is on par.
Question about the subwoofer settings on these units, are there any you can adjust like low-pass filter and/or cutoff frequencies and stuff?

I just installed an 8" in my Prius Plug-in, I couldn't get the steering wheel control and backup camera to work after 2 days of messing with it. So I took it to Best Buy to get that working. Tech support at Joying sucks and it takes 24 hours to get a reply from them.
Bluetooth connects to the phone, but music doesn't play, fm reception sucks, and it won't read my 128gig sdcard. I haven't had a chance to really get into it yet, but I will when I get it back from Best Buy and I'll repost then with a full report.

The FM reception is fine in my car, that is weird that it is not going well for you, maybe you could give the antenna more power. To get the 128gb sd card to work i had to put it in my phone first, my phone formatted it correctly for android, then i threw it into my radio. If you'd like some help with other things i am more than happy if you email me.
Also their customer support has been good to me so far, yes it takes a while for them to reply because their business hours are when we are sleeping. lol
I'm not crazy about the 8"+ units because they look like a tablet duct taped to the dashboard. The DDIN 7" all-glass units are supposed to be available soon. It would be nice if they'd increase the screen size on the DDIN units, there is enough bezel to increase to at LEAST 7.5, maybe even 8". You certainly don't need the row of capacitive buttons on Android, since they're just duplicated from on-screen buttons anyway!

Did you end up testing the multiple bt connection ? Like with a phone and an obd2?
Is the microphone 'visible' to Android on these? Ie, can you use voice commands ('Ok google'), etc?
I can't believe I'm considering going back down this road, but my Newsmy Android box bit the dust (head unit part is OK), and I don't have the time or energy to really push my DIY project.

I did not get around to trying this out. i did try to pair my ODB adapter and gave up after 5 secconds, was going to google it as this is my first android radio. Did not try out multiple phones. I will try to remember to do the ODB after work today but no promises.

Quickest thing to do would probably bring up some app (sound recorder?) that can use the MIC and see if it works. Google Maps, Google Search, etc.
I'm not familiar with the MTC series, but almost all of the android head units utilize an 'MCU' (in this case made my microntek) to control the analog audio sources, and mixes in the digital (Android) audio. That analog audio is typically not 'visible' to android (ie, you cannot record FM radio as the Android board only controls the operation of the radio through the MCU. It doesn't actually run that audio through an ADC back to Android.).
In most of the devices I've seen, the MIC port is wired to the Bluetooth HFP module, which is not actually part of the Android board. It's one of those 'analog sources' that the Android box can control through MCU commands, but the underlying I/O is invisible to the system.
How sturdy is it? I have a double din opening that is a little to small and would need to be trimmed to fit. I was thinking since the single din would be completely covered by the larger screen, I wouldn't need to modify the opening. Does it move when using it? I won't be able to stand it if it moves around or makes any rattle sounds. Thanks in advance for your input.

Seems sturdy. the screen mounts on 4 points to the single din, they are fully adjustable. It does not move at all when i touch it.
Where did you order your unit from? Amazon or directly from Joying? I would rather order through amazon for the better customer service but if they aren't shipping until the end of nov/beginning of dec I would order through Joying to receive it sooner.

BMW E90 Eonon GA7165a PX5 MCU Version MTCD_WWW_V2.58.1 dab interference

Hi,
I have a BMW E90 with a Eonon GA7165a PX5 userdebug 6.0.1 MXC89L with MCU Version MTCD_WWW_V2.58.1
I have the optional dab Adaptor they call V0054, it has a single USB cable out of it that plugs into the rear of the head unit and a DAB ariel that goes to the windscreen
this started back in April when I bought it maybe 50% of the stations had terrible interference and distortion on them no matter where i was whereas the remaining stations, (magic, xradio, chill.... ect were clear)
I logged it as a problem with Eonon support (which is dreadful btw) to which they told me that i needed a stronger active ariel so i left it until i got one in august,
I bought an active ariel and fitted it, and guess what exactly the same only stronger signal.
I have since discovered that the channels are only broken when the car is running and if the car isnt started every single channel is clear, and as soon as you crank the car over it distorts, and soon as you stop it, it clears back up again, below is my video of what happens, ignore the red light on the dash at the time of recording it, I needed new rear pads lol

I logged it again as a problem and they this time tell me that i need a new dab adaptor and as it is beyond the 60 days warranty i will need to buy another adaptor. I can almost guarantee this isnt the case and its probbabily just interference from somewhere but i cannot eliminate it for love nor money.
any help is greatly appreciated

My PX6 goes BOOOOM!!!!

Hello folks,
I have a PX6 unit with Android 10 in a VW T5 Multivan, 2007.
Everything except the FM radio worked fine for a few months (very bad reception) but I was happy because I only use navigation and sound over bluetooth from my phone.
One day I got some noice from the speakers as a small warning before a big BOOOM a few seconds later. It is a really loud "discharge" from the speakers and obviously not good for the unit. Feels like a mini thunderstorm inside my car The head unit goes back to normal after the big bang but the noice starts building up again and a few minutes later, the same thing.
After the third BOOOM the amplifier broke and I could no longer hear any sound from apps and bluetooth (FM radio was still working)
I contacted the seller and he sent me a new amplifier. Hard work for me, but I desoldered the old one and replaced it. It worked and I was back to normal for a while.
Today, the big BOOOOM was back.
Any idea what can cause this behavior and how to solve it before I burn my second amp?
TIA,
David

Ooops. I remember incorrectly after I double checked. It is an MTCE unit. Which forum is the best for my question?

You're in the correct forum.
Check speakers / wiring and speaker impedance. If unsure seek advice from reputable local installer
