Question Clipboard stopped working after today's update (Verizon) - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3

Hoping somebody can help me. I installed the update from Verizon this morning updating my version of Android and security software. Once my phone booted back up and I long press in any text area all I have is the option of paste now. If I hit the three dots next to it it has an option of autofill. I no longer have the option of clipboard which I used frequently.
I have searched all over and did a keyword search and settings and I do not see any option of bringing it back. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any way for me to resolve this? I have tried multiple phone reboots and have tried text box long-pressing in multiple apps including Google search and if it's all the same for the context menu. Hoping someone could help. Thank you!

I'm on AT&T, but have an unlocked model. I have not experienced this. I wonder if switching keyboards (Google/Samsung) might jolt it back?
Worst case, back-up what you can and use Odin to do a clean install of 12.

I'm on Verizon using unlocked ZF3. Have the update and have been using the clipboard fine.

You think after the next update I may get fixed?

Same thing happened on my T-mobile phone after the update the other day, and I use the clipboard daily for pasting multiple things and also to delete sensitive copied things! I Googled it and there's a Reddit thread where it happened to tons of people with different phones after upgrading to Android 12, so it isn't just the Fold 3. Some people have it when using the Samsung Keyboard, but I don't use that (I use SwiftKey and have for many, many years), and some people still don't have it with that keyboard. SwiftKey does have its own clipboard, so I thought I'd have to change to using that, BUT someone left a better tip: use the Edge Panel Clipboard and you can see everything you clipped, drag one to where you want to paste it, hit Copy to use the long-press Paste in the text box, and long-press the copied item to delete or pin it to the clipboard. I tried it and it is a good solution, but hopefully they will fix the long-press to include the Clipboard option again so we can choose exactly where in the text to paste it!

having the same issue after upgrading s10+ from android 10 to 12, no more acces to the clipboard when using swiftkey (I have tried older versions al the way down to 6.3.6 ... no sollution)
a cheap trick from samsung to steal swiftkey users back ???
any sollution ?
and no, I am not interested in gboard or other alternatives, I really want to continue with swiftkey (which I have been using satisfyingly for many years ... EAT THAT samsung)

SwiftKey has its own clipboard if you set it up (and can copy things from your Windows computer to your SwiftKey phone keyboard apparently), but I don't use it even though I've been using SwiftKey for many, many years. I like the clipboard Edge Panel solution, although occasionally it will say you can't paste it where you want to drag it to, so you have to tap the Copy button so you can regular paste it instead.

thx Butter
I noticed that solution shortly ago
that is indeed a temporary sollution, it works but it is a bit more cumbersome thab what we were used to ;-)

coming from iPhone

I am comfortable with my iPhone and have nothing against AT&T. I am thinking of moving to the EVO for its large screen and less expensive family plans.
However, I am afraid I may miss features I am used to having on my iPhone.
Can anyone answer these two questions I haven't found answers to yet?
1. Do you from you list of contacts pick a list called favorites to more easily dial from than going through all contacts?
2. While typing (or replying to) email, can you select a block of text and then cut and paste it?
If anyone who knows both phones knows of other things I may miss from the iPhone let me know please. I went to the Sprint store yesterday but the sales person really wasn't helpful - he tried but did not know a lot.
HTC Sense has a favorite's widget you can use and there is a list of favorites when you bring up your contact list as well. I don't personally use it but some might find it handy.
Selecting text is definitely different than the iphone...it's not somthing I've found myself doing often so I can't answer that personally but I know the option is there to enter a "Select Text" mode when you long press on some text.
I came from the iPhone and left it when the 3Gs came out and the thing you'll probably need adjusting to is the game selection...android market is improving on that but it's not been around as much so it's lagging a little behind in that aspect.
Lastly, the one thing I missed absolutely most when I made the switch was the keyboard...I've yet to find a keyboard that does prediction as good at the iPhone's keyboard for the tap-to-type method.
However, if you're willing to try a different method, Swype has some distinct advantages for typing on a screen (look once for the first letter in a word and look away while dragging your thumb around the screen in the rough shape of where you think the keys would be and it works great for me).
Ultimately, I would conclude that the phones are just different...it's like going from Mac (in it's current incarnation) to Linux. There's some things they do share in common but a lot of what they do, they just do it differently and both pretty well.

[NST][Home replacement] EpubBrowser [11/04/2012]

Hi,
I did up a home replacement for my Nook simple touch, thought I would share it. This is an initial release, no doubt there are bugs, incompatibilities, etc, you were warned. There are no checks for other devices at this point, NST only.
Thanks to the nook community for the noogie.img file, touch nooter, and relaunch for source code ideas and various threads regarding quick refresh and e-ink support.
Disclaimer: Now, what I am using currently is the bare minimum, I have tried quite a bit of the work in this forum and it works well, but I wasn't satisfied or 100% confident and I wanted less installed. So, I restored my nook to stock, used noogie and copied over a rooted ramdisk. That was it, no touchcolortools, nooktouchtools installed, adw minimal this or that, or button saviors. I am sure they are great programs but I don't know enough about them or have the interest/time to do research on them to want to keep them installed.
For me, the point is to keep things simple and maintain battery life. It's an e-reader not a tablet after all. I just want to read books, check email, check a website or two, get some more use out of wi-fi since I don't live in a B&N supported nation.
To install:adb install EPubBrowser.apk
Optional:
I also installed Email.apk and set up my gmail from there, no certificates required or a million google app files and plucking a chicken on a Tuesday after jumping on your left foot crap. No offense to those who like chicken plucking.
adb install Email.apk
Done and done.
I can do up a CWM zip upon request, but last going off I have a continuous reboot after installing the latest version and if you know enough to get the Nook's CWM installed you should be able to use adb.See attached files.
What is not working:
Since Android doesn't really know about multiple external storage locations (at least for the Nook's 2.1 and/or my knowledge of android) EPubBrowser is unable to detect when the internal storage has been remounted, there is no notification of that, just notification of external storage. So if you plug in your usb cord to the computer the list of books will be empty even when you remove it. So if you don't have an sdcard you will have to hit the back button and launch home again to refresh.
Also, B&N books are not listed, whatever is in My Files will be scanned only. That applies to internal and sdcard storage. You can still use B&N's Library to access those.
I don't have any option of uninstalling apps either. adb uninstall works fine or you can just delete files from /data/app via adb shell.
What is working:
Launch of EPubBrowser via nook's home button, without use of nooktouchtools, it duplicates how the B&N home app works.
The notification icon for resuming reading goes through the app. As long as the book was launched from EPubBrowser it can remember the last book, otherwise the main display will show up. Reason being that for whatever reason the last page read doesn't work with the B&N home screen if it's not a book bought from B&N. But if you are just using the B&N Reader app it's not a problem.
When you are prompted which home you want you can select EPubBrowser and hit default. This may not stay set and will go away the next time you reboot.
How to use:Left / right swipes to go to the next 6, previous 6 books, no indication of the current page is displayed, (e-ink and aesthetics).
Touch a book cover to launch a description of the book, swipe up and down to scroll through the description, touch the cover displayed there to start reading. Hit back button on top of screen to exit without launching a book.
To bring up the list of apps installed, swipe a clockwise circle starting at 10 O'clock. Touch an app to launch it, left or right swipe to go back to main screen. That's it for now.
If you have any ideas for improvements, bug reports, please provide as much detail as possible, and when you have done that add some more detail.
Cheers!
Updates:
2/19/2012:
Added screensaver for last read book. (Jpeg 75%) Settings->Display->Screensavers->EPubBrowser
11/4/2012:
Added src project
Looks nice! I'll give it a shot later when my Nook's charged.
Thank you for making and sharing, i am going to try tomorrow and tell you,
Improvements
First of all, thank you for creating this cool launch screen. I love the simplicity of it. Here are is brief list of improvement that you can perhaps easily implement.
-When on the homescreen with the covers of all the books, I am not sure if I am suppose to scroll down or to the right to view the rest of my books.
-When on the page with the details from the book, there is no back button to take you back to the homescreen. I end up using the button savior back button.
-The circle gesture that takes you to the apps does not feel very responsive to me.
Anyhow, great job. Can't wait to see how you plan on improving it

I installed this, and everything just kept flashing. GO Locker and GO Launcher are both broken, and the only way I could fix it was by getting into ADW and closing the task. Did I install it incorrectly? I put it onto an SD card and used ES File Manager to install it.

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback.
You swipe left to go to the previous page of books. You swipe right to go to the next page of books, assuming you have more than 6 books. Personally, I know what books I have on the device so it's not a problem knowing how many are left to see for me.
The back button should be on top of the screen in the middle, not sure why it wouldn't be there on yours. I will give it a think, maybe remove the scroll control in the book description and just use gesture detection and scroll the text via code.
Responsiveness and speed will likely improve over time, I am using the gesture library, maybe there are some optimizations there I can do.
Cheers!

Hi,
Noted, so it doesn't work with GO Lancher/Locker. Never tried GO stuff, so that wasn't tested. It was tested with ADW and relaunch, and I had all the rest of your typical touch nooter install there without problems, android market, etc.
I have run it with Home.apk renamed to Home.apk.bak and that works fine as well.
As for your other question, if it is installed it is installed, there are no configurations to modify, however you get it there it should be fine.
Cheers!
WANT
Noted that it does not work with go, will have to get rid of that first.
From the screenshots, I can already tell you put time into polishing! Good job!

I'll try it again without the GO software, but it was making everything just keep flashing, like the lock screen.
@NFHimself, any plans for taking this to github? It is very close to what I always wanted but I was also looking for:
- some kind of usage of Calibre data
- library filtering for series, highly rated, etc.
- tracking of books that are clicked to maintain sort of recent read filter
- sorting options by rating, series, and other Calibre properties
- option to display 6 or 12 (smaller) book covers.
I hope it already does use intents for selecting a different epub reader for those who have no defaults and multiple ones installed.
I know its a long list, and I have some Android experience. I am sure there would be other developers here so a combined effort might help.

Hi,
I use Calibre as well, I just connect via adb and calibre picks up the nook and I copy books over and it converts on the fly, cool program. Using Calibre data is an idea worth looking into, if I can fit it into the theme of no preferences, no extra buttons or config. There are plenty of those kind of home apps already. Relaunch for one is great, just missing a graphical front end, I was going to mod that, but decided that I didn't really need so much stuff and I wanted to learn more android API.
I did up the app using pretty straight forward epub standards (note the plural), it works with most epubs I have run across, not sure if looking for extra xml is a good functionality vs performance tradeoff. I haven't been using EPubBrowser for very long myself, so when I add more books and find something annoying I will probably make changes to fix it. I want to keep things simple, if I need a preferences menu, it is already going the wrong way.
I am not specifying any class, just a regular launch this epub file intent, so it should work with any reader. I like the stock reader myself, cool reader seems to dislike some epubs I have above a certain size, and I didn't want to deal with it.
I may github it, I am kinda time limited these days.
Cheers!

Hi,
More details are needed to figure that out. What device do you have? What do you have installed on it?
Cheers!
I just wiped then manually rooted my Nook, and this works now. Although I'm having some trouble with getting to the apps page after the first time I did it. Could you possible change how you get to the apps page? Maybe change it so you have to click the menu key to get to apps.
Edit: Now that I've added my books, it shows me two books, one empty, and another book. Now it just flashes and removes/re-adds the last book. :/
Edit 2: I found that there are a few books that just don't like this launcher and cause the entire Nook to start flashing. I've been adding my books one by one to see which work and which don't and I'll try and find similarities between those that don't.
Great launcher replacement.
Running right now, but after the second page, I get sent back to the first, regardless of left-to-right or right-to-left swiping. Ideas?
Also, any chance for a page up/down use for scrolling through books?
I took a quick vid. It looks like when I swipe again from R to L, it tries to redraw the next books, but gets confused?

Hi,
I'm busy painting the baby's room, but it looks like it is resetting, perhaps one of your books is crashing the app and it is being relaunched as the home screen. Or could be some other bug, how many books are involved, if you remove one or add one, does it go away?
If someone could open the e-pub (it's a zip file) that causes the error and paste the contents of the .odf file (it's an xml file) , that would help.
Cheers!

I've gone through and removed / added ebooks, and still the same problem.
Sorry, been kinda busy.
I need to be able to see the bug on my end to work on it. Maybe I've been lucky with the book selections I have made or converting using Calibre has set them all to have the same kind of format, vs the variety you might see in the wild from multiple sources.
Does the error happen with no books?
What happens when you have just one book?
How many books do you have on your nook? (If it's something like 1000 then yeah, maybe you'd have issues, no checks in the code for being out of memory.)
What firmware are you using?
Are there any hardware differences? (Can't imagine that being a problem, but I am using a NST, not the original Nook.)
What can I do to reproduce this error on my end? What are the steps?
Cheers!

For me, it doesn't matter how many books I have, it's just a few specific books that crash, independent of the other books in my library, and some books are more severe than others (one makes the entire Nook start flashing (all software), others make only this app flash).
I have the same problem as the people above but I can't get past the first page. I can't seem to narrow it down to a certain book making it crash. It's a shame I love this home screen, but hopefully we can get this fixed and running great.

Will copy & paste / text editing ever be half decent on the S3 or Android in general?

Will copy & paste / text editing ever be half decent on the S3 or Android in general?
I switched fromy my iPhone 4S to a T-999 and I've been imcreasingly frustrated with the copy & paste system throughout ICS (stock). Some apps don't seem to use the same clip board so I end up having to just type more because it doesn't paste what I copied. Too often it's fristrating to even select a specific portion of text. Even pasting into apps like the YouTube app that Google developed themselves is hit and miss. And no undo function?? Arr. I'm almost considering going back to iPhone because it seems to take an extra 20 steps to do things on my S3 that were a very brief process on my iPhone. I still hate Apple's lack of expanability, built in battery small screen, doesn't work with most of t-mobile's 4g currently, etc. but for such basic functions it can become a nightmare on my S3! Maybe I need to carry 2 phones for the next year or so? Any ideas? Hopeful insights?

'I'm almost considering going back to iPhone"..... Done in less than 5 seconds! The clipboard should pop up in every txt input. I'm not sure why it wouldn't since it's a system app or feature. Undo function? Just hit the backspace. It might be a hassle if you paste a long paragraph or such. I see what your saying.

Yeah, worse though, is whenyou try to backspace this paragraph and you hold down the backspace a little too long and ending up losing some text you didn't mean to lose because it speeds up after holding down the backspace button a while. Forgot to mention, keyboard is also laggy in 1st party apps more often (and not doing anything especially processor intensive) than seems reasonable and the netflix app...omg is that the opposite of fluid. And I can't seem to understand why Samsung thinks it's good to have a flagship device's screen have the contrast cranked up 1000% These aren't as big of issues for me as unreliable text editing but are still areas that iOS has pretty much had down from the beginning.
Sorry if I sound like an Apple fanboy, I just like to use what is flexible abd gets the job done, not promote a cult. Sure it might take a few extra taps at times to do something on Android because more options are available, but when it consisitently takes significant additional time to do seemingly simple functions on a smart phone, it's hard to justify it becomes a functionality problem, not just being "less pretty" than Apple's offering.
Hahaha guilty! I don't copy or paste much so I haven't looked into 3rd party apps. Check the play store. You might find a good app.

I just Swype to copy and paste. Like Swype+c Swype+v. Swype+a to select all
Clicking Swype highlights the word and I delete/replace that way. There are some keyboards that has some cool functionalities that makes typing and editing easier. I don't remember which ones though because I'm so use to my Swype.

I feel really guilty this morning.. I got an email with a docx that had a link in it and no matter how far I zoomed I couldn't click it or copy it to paste it or anything. I opened my iPad and had it open within seconds, and now I'm posting this from my iPad. :crying:
It was much worse on older versions of Android before they made those little blue arrow-tab thingies that you drag to select.
At this point, aside from not liking how "locked down" Apple is with their phone/Apps the only reason I can think of that I wouldn't like using an iPhone 5 is I HAVE to have swype.

I thought the Galaxy S3 is awesome, I love it - but - Swype seems to be glitchy Sometimes it won't let me backspace, I try to delete letters or a word and it just KEEPS putting in a word I don't want. It's like having an "annoyotron" built into my phone Sometimes when I press backspace, it keeps jumping to the front of the input screen but leaves the words!
But the single most annoying think about Android phones?: You can't multi-touch multi-select a bunch of emails - WTF?!? If I've got 15 or 150 emails I want to select to delete/move why the ^&@#$*! to I have to select each one individually???!?!? BlackBerry let me multi-touch multi-select quickly and easily and this was YEARS ago! And there does not even seem to be an alternate solution such as "shift-click" to multi-select the way you would in Windows either?
I expect each new version of Android will make incremental improvements to text editing/input. Maybe somebody will make an awesome notepad type program with slick and user friendly text input/editing which would then have a menu item that lets you use it as an email editor also?

Is almost perfect, to not say perfect, because sure Google improves it more.
This is being written with the "swype" feature in my Galaxy Nexus. Too fast, and can be used with another languages. The system detects the route and compares it with the dictionary. Almost always it detect the right word. Sometimes (very few!) it detects another word, so click in the corrector and add the correct. If you enter some word with orthographic errors, it detects it and is introduced and corrected perfectly, like if you are using the normal keyboard. Is good also with punctuation and spaces.
Using it in vertical position and perfect, always I wrote in vertical in old keyboard I have lots of errors because my big fingers. Since I have installed Android 4.2, I don't needed to use the landscape mode, so I'm happy to see how I can write now at the speed of thunder and chat without getting angry
Thanks Google!

If the new keyboard keeps people from getting angry when they chat - it should be mandatory for XDA posters.
Frankly I hate it. It makes no sense in my mind to drag my finger over letter that I don't need for a word, yet through which I have to go in order to get to the next letter I need... I'd much rather type normally
I've got last update for my Galaxy Nexus and now I'm on 4.2, i cant find anywhere Swype keyboard ..its on English (U.S.A) keyboard
Why?
It's just called android keyboard, that now allows swiping. Swype is a third party keyboard you really don't need anymore.

I'm way faster on Swype. I hate trying to hit each key perfectly and and/or moving my hand to enter the suggested. But to each his own.
I have to try this new swipe since people seem to like it.

Did they add in any variety of custom dictionary sync? That's one thing I really like about the version of Swype I have now. I no longer need to re-teach the keyboard all the technical jargon every time I get a new device.
i got some issue with the newz android keyboard, sometimes the word are show twice
The personal dictionary allows you to add words directly (Skype doesn't), but I don't think it works. I added a few email addresses and typing the first 2-3 letters don't bring up the address. Swype had problems with words beginning with a number, so does android. I find android just as accurate. I like having a "." on the numeric keyboard that's not on Swype.

I like it...
never used Swype before because it seemed a bit counter-intuitive, but really like it on the nexus 7 (possibly because typing is a pain normally)
I can see why some people will hate it, mind - some people hate predictive text for similar reasons.
I spent some time with swipe. It's pretty accurate but just feels clunky in places. What I really missed though was the shortcuts that Swype has like swiping from the Swype key to the 5 key to bring up a number pad and swiping from the Swype key to the shift key to change case. And I don't like having to change keyboards to enter numbers. I like the convention of a long hold to get numbers and common punctuation like in Swype.

My version of Swype has a '.' on the numberpad. Are you actually referring to the number pad (accessed by swyping from the Swype key to the #5 or long pressing on the "123" key) or the symbol/number keyboard accessed by quick pressing on the "123" key?
Swype also lets you add to the dictionary--it just does it whenever you key in a new word, as opposed to having you specifically go through the hassle of adding words to the dictionary. That's why I was impressed with the versions of Swype that sync online--so I don't need to re-teach it words I've already taught it on other devices.

Ahhh forgot about the actual numpad. I always found it easier to press the 123 key, and don't think there's a "." there.
The android keypad lets you add words as you're typing too, I just find the "+" in the dictionary more convenient (at least on initial set-up). I also like the nicknames you can add to the personal dictionary, for "words" that Swype doesn't recognize (or suggest)... Like I have "[email protected]" as an email, if it's in Swype dictionary it won't come up as a suggestion, but in android, set a nickname like "mrk" or anything you want, and the suggestion will pop up.
I have nothing against Swype, used it for a year, I just find "little" things about android I like better. I don't type a lot, so may not know all the secrets to Swype (or Android). I do like the new Swype theme options!

Can no longer get word suggestions by clicking

I am pretty sure I haven't lost it and my memory is tricking me, but before some update or another if you were entering text in almost any app (SMS most notably) and got to the end of the piece of text and saw that word correction had put in a word you didn't want you could click on the word and the word prediction list would appear again and a simple click to change to another word???
I am not 100% sure when this functionality disappeared, must be at least 6 months ago. I thought it was just some glitch and was expecting it to return when resetting. Just did a reset (Android 5.0.1) and still nothing happens.
Drives me crazy, have to place the cursor after the word, delete it and re-type. It was so sweet before.
Please let me know if I am wrong - and if not is there any way to get this functionality back.

Try this! open messages, new message, to the left of the space bar hold comma, go to advanced and tick word prediction and next word prediction!

Appreciate your help. I think I have tried turning on and off every setting I can find related to word prediction/correction. nothing seems to help.
So do you have a M8 with 5.0.1 that does as I describe? I would really like to know if it is just my phone. Fixing it if it is must then be possible. If I imagined it, well then I can forget about it and seek other help

Hi, julesgilson...
My M8 is currently running Android 5.0.1/Sense 6, and although I don't use the stock HTC Sense keyboard, preferring instead to use Fleksy, I have noticed this annoying peculiarity with the Sense keyboard myself.
Here are some further observations...
With the stock Sense keyboard, a word is only correctable (with selectable alternatives) only as long as the word being typed remains HIGHLIGHTED. As soon as you hit the space bar, with the intention to type the next word, the HIGHLIGHT is gone, and the original word can no longer be corrected or alternatives suggested.
The HIGHLIGHT then shifts to the next word being typed, and with possible corrections and alternative suggestions for this new word.
Tracking back over a given paragraph (or even to just the last word) and manually highlighting a previously typed word, doesn't, as you might expect, provide any alternatives or spelling corrections.
-----
This behaviour is entirely at odds with 3rd party keyboards like SwiftKey, Swype and even Googles own keyboard, where ANY word in a given paragraph can be selected and corrections/alternatives suggested.
The stock Sense 6 keyboard under Lollipop 5.0.1 seems incapable of retrospectively correcting previously typed words!!!
I'm no programmer, but it seems to me, that the stock Sense keyboard is only capable of correcting a word while it remains in the 'buffer'... that is to say, while it's being typed and so long as it's highlighted.
The instant you move on to the next word (with the space bar), the word is 'forgotten' by the keyboard and can no longer be corrected or alternatives suggested.
-----
This sort of thing is difficult to describe, so I suggest you download Googles keyboard from PlayStore... type some random passage in Google Keep (or wherever) and then using Googles keyboard, randomly select a word in that passage and you will see that Googles keyboard correctly identifies the selected word, and suggests alternatives.
And then try the same experiment with the stock Sense keyboard...
Rgrds,
Ged.
Yes! That's exactly it - like you say pretty difficult to describe concisely. The strange thing is that it used to do it, possibly before Lollipop.
Now that someone else has confirmed it seems a general issue with the HTC keyboard I will give up trying to fix it and look for another keyboard.
Greatly appreciated.
