GPS / Rev A ROM Update on Monday March 10th!?! - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

This update is for the Mogul, but should be available for the Touch soon after that. It should include unlocking the Rev A radio and the GPS chip in the phone. It will probably also include a BT stereo fix, but unknown if it will address any other BT issues. The new ROM version is rumored to be 3.35.651.2.

What makes you believe the Touch will be available soon after? What does soon mean to you in this case? TIA

The Touch and Mogul are VERY similar, in fact they both use the same 32bit Qualcomm MSM7500 chip. The GPS and Rev A unlocking is done within that chip. So if the ROM is released on Monday I would expect the great minds of XDA to have a Touch version by the end of the day.

That would be sweet! Waiting for HTC to release anything is like pulling teeth.

Here is the link to where the update is coming from.
HTC America Support
Here is a list of its features.
A maintenance release for the Mogul (PPC 6800) will be available on 3/10/08 from HTCs site. The new ROM version is 3.35.651.2 with a ROM date of 2/22/08.
It provides several key updates:
Added GPS Support
Added Sprint Navigation Application
Added Qualcomm EVDO RevA upgrade
Added Task Manager to Today Screen
D.

Only thing i not sure about is if it could work on touch why wouldn't the leaked radio/rom be able to work.

I agree with mastachillz. The Touch will have to wait for it's own update. From what I've read, the bootloader is integral in getting the GPS/Rev A hardware to work with the OS. That's why you couldn't enable GPS on the Touch just by copying the relevant dlls, reg entries, etc. from the Mogul. Bootloaders are said to be very device specific, so you can't just load the Titan bootloader on the Touch either. The Touch has to keep waiting.

i think GPS is the most important.. HOpefully SOOOOOOOOn!

Its official, get yourself the hookup!

Sorry its for the mogul. So close yet so far away

not a gps evdo rev a update
This is not the update for GPS or EVDO Rev. A Just some fixes.
"Additionally, HTC is currently developing a separate ROM update which enables the EV-DO Rev. A and GPS capabilities that are already built into the Mogul hardware. Sprint and HTC plan to make this software ROM available in early 1Q 2008. Please bookmark this page for easy reference."

OK - understood. Thought you were referring to an official Sprint release.
Don't know that I agree, though, since the leaked Mogul ROM never made it onto a Touch.

I talked to a sprint rep that came to our company and the word is rev a and GPS will be available for the HTC Touch beginning of May. I can't wait.

Can I flash Titan ROMs on the Vogue?

I know the Vogue has the same insides as the Titan, except just more RAM, so can I flash Titan ROMs on the Vogue?

It doesn't have the same "insides" as a Titan, and no.
i wouldnt think so...
nope. roms built for the titan afre built for the titan.
haha! i actually cracked open a XV6900 and a XV6800...they use all the same hardware, down to the exact model numbers for the internal parts, minus the screen/bezel and wifi, since the xv6900 doe snot have wifi (for CDMA version)
so, everyone is wrong and just saying you cannot do it just because. i thought it was fishy when these two phones were released with al the same software and support CDs, and Verizon did not even bother to upgrade to lthe latest info. plus the WMmodem drivers use the same hardware identification and DevID in the system manager. Sweet. so yes, the roms are interchangeable, except no wifi usage on the Touch

Flash it and keep us updated. Would be interested in seeing how this turns out...
(Oh, and be ready to not complain about a brick.)
ROMs in general are not transferable like this no matter if the hardware is almost the same. Its about allocation of bytes to specific locations.

Thanks for that. I guess he doesn't know the difference in the processor and the amount of RAM between the 2 phones.
^ Actually, he's right. The Vogue and the Titan are both CDMA devices based on the MSM7500 processor (as opposed to the 7200 on GSM phones of similar vintage). Hardware-wise the Vogue is much more closely related to the Titan than it is to the Elf (ie the Touch GSM). Haven't you ever wondered why the Vogue has a much faster CPU than the Elf? HTC basically took the Mogul, swapped the keyboard for some more RAM, stuffed into the Elf's case and called it the Vogue. Android builds for the Titan are mostly based on builds made for the Vogue, and there's a reason why.
With that said, no, Titan ROMs probably won't work on as-is a Vogue.
Don't do it!
Give'r a go and let me know how your brick..I mean phone works

was it released w/ sense 2.5? VZW is getting theirs tested right now, maybe its a new version w/ sense 2.5

It was not released with Sense 2.5. It has 2.1 still. And unless there is a newer update coming, that was the last one that will happen.

well they originally quoted october/november for the first update and it came out in march, so it is possible they put out a date they could never obtain again and make us wait on the edge of our seats for it.
I'd like to know where he got this date. I watch 3 different websites religiously, and I haven't seen ANYTHING about this.
sorry bout that, i was refering to the update. I saw the info on microsofts windows mobile page. at the bottom there's a link that says updating your phone. the chart says march 2010 for tmobile touch pro 2. and it says it the chart was last updated jan 28, 2010

I don't remember the exact date it came out, but it was real close to that date. Also, it says that the dates are subject to change. Not to mention, it doesn't even list the WM6.5 update that was released. So, I would suffice to say that this is out of date info.

Nope. Those are HTC Official roms. This would be T-Mobile specific. Officially, those roms are not compatible with non-HTC branded devices.
I was in a SPRINT store and was talking with one of the tech's about an issue with the Calendar, and he was saying that a friend of his is an official tester for the new Windows Mobile 6.5.5 and it should be released by the end of March. I just hope that he was right. Shortly after he had told me this information, he was fired for telling me and one other person this. My wife wanted and needed to upgrade her phone, so now we both have TP2's. and when Windows Mobile 6.5.5 is released, we will both be upgrading. I will be holding on for the HTC HD3. That is from my perspective, a great phone with great specs.

EVO 4G and Android 2.2 "Froyo"

Only a few days are left till EVO 4G will be on market. It will have Android 2.1.
I was wondering if it will get an upgrade to 2.2 "Froyo", since Google offisially released it! Or even Android 3.0 "Gingerbread" when will be out, in the end of 2010?

There have been posts about this. Nobody knows for sure. HTC did say that most of the phones released this year will get 2.2 by the end of the year. They might skip it for Gingerbread (2.5, btw) but nobody knows yet. No worries though. I'm sure when we root this thing we will get AOSP 2.2 installed in no time.
I'm just as excited as you are.

Not to be a spoilsport here, but I still prefer HTC HD2 cause it has physical buttons. Those touch sensitive ones have proven to be a bit awkward on the Nexus One already. But this phone's good.
Yeah according to Google/HTC (I'm not sure), but there's an article that says that almost all phones release in 2010 will get the 2.2 update. Not sure about the 3.0 one though, I think it's too early
And I'm just as excited about the Evo as all of you are.
Well semi good news. Froyo is on the Nexus One officially now. So once we root this puppy we can make a N1 rom for our Evo and bam! Instant parfait goodness. That said, I don't think we will root it before Google deposits the 2.2 code in the AOSP repositories so if that happens we can just cook up our own AOSP rom. Even so, this is a good backup plan.

I think that you are being way too confident. The 4G radio in this handset is going to present some interesting (and serious) challenges as far as just adapting AOSP or other ROMs (such as those for the GSM Nexus One) is concerned.

Definitely not a stranger to this notion. Before I got my evo I had a hero which had the same issues. I'm just hoping wecan find a way to better work around it.

Froyo is already said to have wimax support natively. As for cdma support as of 1.6 its supported natively. I don't see any reason we wont have radio support in Froyo. Its all there already. Or will be once its released. I have no worries about a upgrade to froyo. All we need is root and the rest is history

So basically HTC has patched in support for a new type of radio in a previous version of the firmware that doesn't support it natively, and you're using this as evidence that the situation will be different than it was with the Hero?
If you'll recall, 1.5 lacked the native CDMA support that arrived in 1.6. HTC patched it in and then abandoned the handset for seven months.
History is not on your side.

I'm completely new to posting in these forums (1st post), but have followed for quite a while.
In response to the above, I want to point out that keishou posted a link to the EVO 4G Developer's Guide which clearly states that the Froyo SDK will contain WiMAX support. Under section 2. 4G-WiMax Network, it says...
// you are on Sprint's 4G network
// ConnectivityManager.Type_WIMAX=6 will be included in Froyo SDK
// Until Type_WIMAX is supported
// you will need to hard-code the value 6
Doesn't this mean that we won't have to worry about WiMAX when flashing Froyo onto the EVO?

They didn't "abandon" the headset. There was a software release in between launch and 2.1. Not to mention that 2.1 was only out for 5 months before the Hero got the update. 1 bug fixing update and 1 major release in 7 months? Seems about average for the industry.
Look at the Treo 800w and Treo Pro. They never got an update, and probably never will. That's being abanonded.

it doesnt matter if HTC is gonna give us a update really man. we can do a much better job then them. as for HTC abandoning the hero i dont think that was the case. if a handset manufacturer updated the OS on every phone every time Google did they would be ****ing their selves. i think HTC did a ok job of releasing 2.1 for the hero. i mean really we couldve got 1.6, 2.0 or 2.0.1 but all those platforms were short lived. the fact is they have to build binaries to support major platform shifts and it just so happens that 1.5/the hero got caught in that groove. plus on top of it the hero is old news. it has a old ARCH that doesnt support most of the 2.+ APIs. hero doesnt support opengl 2.0 and never will. in a since 2.1 on the hero was kinda pointless. the only way we can get some of the 2.1 goodies is through hacking to get it, leaving the builds unstable and slightly buggy. of course us the tweakers dont care but the users who just buy the phone and wait for official updates do care about that. i mean also official 2.1 hasnt been out all that long either and the hero got it. will the evo see an update? im sure it will. there is no reason it shouldnt.
All of us that will be migrating from the Hero to the Evo have faith in you and the rest of the devs here Toast. You all worked wonders with the Hero and with more capable hardware I am sure you will blow us all away in due time.

Totally agree with ya on that, but dammit they better bring Darch with them
Seeing as the EVO is one of HTC's flagship devices I can't see it not getting at least two upgrades. For what its worth, based on the fact that the droid is getting 2.2 soon it appears that either google has started to talk to manufacturers better or this upgrade may simply be easier to roll out (of course the droid is vanilla 2.2, but considering how long 2.1 took it's still good news)
Based on the Evo's specs I can't imagine not getting updates until at least (Mind you I'm picking a random number with no basis) Android 4.0 or something. While HTC is slow with updates, that's what XDA is for
Yeah the only froyo you will get is a port from a dev on here. I heard the EVO will not get the official 2.2 for up to three months. Knowing sprint, much longer than that.
2.2 is coming to EVO

Verizon Equivalent to G2 ?

Tmobile has great customer service (we've experienced) and great speedy data in my area. The problem is as soon as we leave the city, there is little to no signal at all on tmo. Since the ATT proposal, we're not going to pay for their lack of _________ (everything) and are changing to Verizon.
So, what is the equivelant phone that verizon carries ? I want a physical keyboard, nice fast cpu, nice storage space, and a very very good antenae. Camera and screen should be similar or better also.
So, what says you, users of both carriers ?
THANKS !
uhh, the htc merge is coming out soon; a droid 2?
verizon equivalent of g2 is called the htc merge. It has practically the same inner workings, only differences are cdma and slide out keyboard (versus z-hinge). Only problem is, vz still hasnt officially released the phone yet (release date unknown); Therefore, you can either wait until they release the htc merge or wait until moto announces the droid3.
If you cant wait, you can always go backwards and get the droid2....ew

Actually, anything Motorola-related is automatically a step backwards...unless HTC continues to be a collective retard and not release the bootloaders.
I'd look into the Xperia Play.
As stated before the htc merge is basically the g2 (that's verizon right?). The upcoming droid 3 will most likely have a keyboard as well, but that will be a while.

contrary to popular belief, the HTC Merge is actually a version of the Evo Shift 4G and NOT the G2/Vision/Desire-Z
they removed the (unnecessary for VZW) Wimax from the Evo Shift 4G and made it black in color are the main differences
it is much, much farther from being a G2, the processor is different for example, and no G2 custom ROMS will work on the Merge at all
umm Droid 3? If you don't HAVE to have the keyboard, then you've got lots of options.

AT&T Mango Release News 9/27 Rollout for Most.

AT&T begins Mango update program September 27th. Full details.
For all of you on AT&T and awaiting Mango, we have some big news for you, so grab yourself a seat, because you're hearing it here first. Looks like that earlier info about "being on time" was accurate.
We just received a series of emails exchanged between some higher ups at AT&T and an anonymous source (the source is anonymous to you, but known and verified by us). The emails give, in detail, AT&Ts plans for their Mango updates, including schedule according to device. The original emails are attached as images with all names and times redacted.
In short, here is the plan. "Starting September 27, 2011, Microsoft has approved and is planning to release a new “Mango” update to AT&T customers using..."
HTC Surround (SKU 65212)
LG Quantum (SKU 65205)
Samsung Focus (SKU 65203) [More on this below]
"A subsequent release is projected to be available for customers with the HTC HD7S (SKU 65255) in early to mid October. A subsequent advisory will be provided for the HTC HD7S after the MR update has successfully passed TA."
The update requires two steps: download new Zune software and plug in your phone.
Now the bad news. The Samsung Focus is still divided into two camps, depending on the hardware revision. Revision v1.3 will get the update on 9/27 while v1.4 will have to wait till end of October:
The Samsung team came back an provided this information about WINDOWS 7.5 for the Samsung Focus devices.
rev 1.3(Micron): Windows 7.5 update will be available through Zune on 9/27.
rev 1.4(LSI) : Update has not entered the AT&T SPE lab yet; however, Samsung is targeting for 10/17 lab entry and 10/31 TA
So there you go folks. The only thing missing from the above is the Dell Venue Pro, but we're under the impression that Dell will handle that directly. More info as it comes in. And thanks to our tipster for the excellent information and timely communication! Full emails after the break...

I know that AT&T isn't a "bad" company. I was an AT&T employee for 10 years. But in the wireless market, they have always been somewhat clueless about what makes good customer service.
This is a welcome surprise for me, and I can't wait until next Tuesday.
Hey, AT&T werent last (Australia's Telstra was 2nd last), so I was <i>more</i> shocked when Telstra was waiting for MS' approval to push Mango 0_o
If you de-branded, dont forget to re-brand to ensure you get the update. If you use the LG Quantum, check this link. I provided the instructions incase you forgot... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1273826
What about non-branded phones. I remember MS was saying those devices are getting updates first, so does it mean we should get it before 27/9?
This is excellent need and shows att holding true to their statement about being the first to update. Hopefully Samsungs don't run into any snags likelast time. Can't wait to finally get mango.
