[EXPERIMENT]Replacing Cam Module w/ Defy Cam module to get working camera - Bravo Android Development

http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Motorola-Defy-MB525-Camera-p/mot1038910.htm
There you go. This part is $15.29. If someone is brave enough to do this, you will need a t5 torx screwdriver and anything that you think would help.
I'm not really sure that just replacing the cam module will provide a working camera for the MIUI and CM7 Defy ROMs, but it seems a good $30ish project to try! Plus you get a way nicer 5mp cam with 720p video record!

Excellent experiment, why dont you try it? I think that no everybody will be a guinea pig for this
I have disassembled some moto android phones, but this is my first time with a bravo, I have to change the digitizer because it is broken but still works, but I dont think I could give a try to that!

Do you just plug that in or is that soldered right in? If it is then it'l be tons harder.

Does it come with instructions?

I tell you what..........
I'LL TRY IT! Whenever I can get my phone back and the module. I know a guy that is itching to do this for me.

They are also on ebay. I would this work, it would be awsome!

So was it successful, did the new module come with a clip?
I just brought a yellow lens from china, also wanting to try it out

I really hope someone tries this. If it works I'll give up $30 easy!

I'm not desperate, but I really feel that we will be a long time using our bravos with gingerbread without a working camera.

The Red lens needs diffrent Hardware, you also can not use a Red One in a Defy with Green lens...

So basically, you cannot just swap out the module, but the motherboard???
Is there any link to this, I need to find out.
I just brought an amber lens and I'm itching to swap it out. But the housing/clip on the module didn't come with the module I brought.
On the YouTube video, it said do not re-use cam module housing, thing is no one sells it!?

Didn't other people tells us not to unlock, root and put custom roms on our phones? Did that stop us? No. Try reusing the housing. If you didn't break or bend it too much.......
BTW. I haven't had the extra $ to get the module or I would have done it already. Also would anyone be so kind as to give me a guide for disarming the thing? I want to get the kit to make it take dual sims or dual sd cards. Seen one on the internet somewhere some dude had 4 16gb cards in his phone. Think about it. A phone with 64gb worth of storage. wow. That's more than my hd on my computer.

I don't know if the back things make a difference or not. Need more research done here.

The pins? Or what? 8x8 pins on Defy module, 8x8 on Bravo. My guess is it'll go right in. So is someone going to try this? I might just do it if nobody else does.
And look here at 0:43 - looks simple enough. Not sure about that camera retainer though.

I was talking about the pins on the inside of the block. Not the gold pins around the outside of it. Do they do anything? The Bravo just has three round contact points. The Defy has several receptor looking things.

Found retainer clip! Here. Mobile Site.

[Q] Help identifying power-button (on the mobo) part.

Been having power button issues:
Power button does not work at all, not even when booted to recovery. I believe it is shorted/stuck on because the device CANNOT be powered off. As soon as the battery touches the device, BOOT.
So.. i pulled the case and took a look inside:
All the soldering looks fine but i assume its an internal mechanical issue. If anyone could help me identify this button on mouser etc, i would greatly appreciate it.
I am familiar with small package SMD soldering; however any tips as far as temperature and solder time for something this sensitive would be awesome.
Or a schematic? Any idea if one is leaked?
(that button) Not the plastic part!

The only thing close to a schematic I've ever seen for that are the FCC approval photos.
Hmm, ok i will take a look at those. I am really just hoping to find an equivalent part to swap out. May end up just taking measurements and scan through mouser for a few hours.

Having similar problems with mine. Still works normal but have to push down pretty hard to bring up power menu as well as waking the device. Wasn't untilled I opened it up that I realized it was the actual button on the board that is bad.
Good luck and please keep us updated with your repair.

^Gotta love Digikey... tons of components.
That almost doesn't look like the right part though in the digikey pictures. Looks like it has 4 pins instead of 5.

Ha yea; i was surprised mouser didn't even have anything close.
It definitely just has 4 pins, i believe the 5th is just for mounting/was just soldered to the case. After going through thousands of these 'tactile switches', none of them had 5 pins.
AND: if you look at the techresourse teardown, their mobo revision doenst even have the 5th pin...or the ground wire from the silver box to the switch casing.
Glad to see progress is being made. I hope the repair works. Please if all goes well and works can you make a detailed step by step including all tools needed for the job? That would be awesome.

Ah ok. That's what I was thinking too that it was probably just a mount, but wasn't sure if it was a ground pin afterall or not.
Just figured I would point it out just in case so you would still have time to cancel the order if needed, but nevermind .
And yeah, a guide would be nice if somebody needed it in the future .

[HowTo] Partly disassemble Galaxy W I8150

This is not a full disassembly, maybe I will provide it later and if I really have to disassamble my Galaxy W. But it might be useful for one or the other who needs to dissamble and does not know how to start.
By disassambling the device you officially lose the warranty, so all you do is in your responsibility!

Hi...is there any more stuff in this compared to the manual I have linked above, just wondering, as there may be some stuff missing in my linked copy??

thanks for the link!!
Hellooo!
I managed to do my assignment! And I have to thank you, as always.
It has been important the manual within the passages assemblage and disassemblage of the Galaxy you have posted, in addition to the fotografic guide of the-e related to the only disassembly of the back cover.
After totally disassemblying this device , I can say that it is sufficent a little manual ability to succeed without making any mistake.
Some months ago I totally disassembled the Galaxy S, and, believe me, it's somenthing different! The Amoled display considerably complicate the thing.
The most difficult passage is just the replacing of the dispay frame because you have to remove all that is inside (mainboard etc etc.. ) including the display but what makes the procedure difficult is the pad with the soft keys, the central key and the micropohone. You have to do it very carefully because you can risk to damage the small flats that link the parts. The component is the only one and it is literaly interwoven and pasted to the display frame.
I think I must underline a very important thing: when you have to arrive to the display frame, you have to totally disassemble the block of the display. It means that you have to unglue the panel lcd from the glass of the touch...and it implies a probable difficulty to re-assembly the all things trying to avoid to leave any mark like signs of fingers or the hateful grane of dust. I have to say that I really succeed.
Good luck to everyone who is going to open the device !!
as usual, i am learning more and more by visiting the forums and checking out other posts, at the moment i would just lik eto find out where i could get other parts like the actual housing, etc, i just want to make my ancora white lol

None taken mate, guess I mistook you for a lmgtfy guy who just wants everything chewed up for him, and I am sorry for that.
However, can't help you with that precisely, but since you already know where is what, why not just get that mic off of ebay (I'm guessing it's cheap) and see it for yourself. Either you just need to plug out the old one and plug the new one in the right slot, or just cut the old one from the motherboard and solder the new one on it. Maybe if you could post some pics of the inside of your device where the mic is, I could try to work something out from there...
Cheers!

Hi Guys,
I need some advice on the subjected problem. I have an HTC One m7 801s handheld device. After 2.5 yrs the battery was bleeding out and I had the pink tint problem as many other early devices did.
So I decided to upgrade those two parts of the device since the rest of the phone was pleasant for me.
I ordered an alleged 2800mAh battery from Aliexpress (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-...NE-M7-802D-802T-802W-801E-801S/526641029.html) and a replacement camera module.
On a quiet Sunday morning I did the operation and the patient survived however the camera module did not work as expected.
Please see the attached pics. After I started taking photos the edge of the pic remained blurry then as I tried to focus on closer items I discovered the camera did not go back to its original position and finally it ended up only making macro photos.
Do you think it could be the problem of assembly or simply a hardware problem in the replacement camera module?
It is new camera module broblem. This issus not having your pink problem camera?
Could be the settings or try a camera app see if it takes pictures normally.

I picked up a 2014 manufactured version of The developers Edition after alot of complaints about the pink tint in the 2013 early versions. Even though this is a developer's Edition I was hit by that bug.
Right now I think the battery and camera are what I need to replace. Where do you suggest we find these parts? Author of this post pointed out a camera module from AliExpress, what about the battery? And like hell I don't want to open the case up, I messed up my iPhone doing that a while back.
Camera replacement
I didn't do it myself. Nor would I suggest anyone to do it at home or makeshift repair shop. The M7 has very beautiful build design and it would be a shame to ruin it.
I gave the phone at the HTC Pune service centre. Got it back without a scratch. They charge you extra for non India specific device... I don't know why.

Good idea with the new thread! Since I've been using the HTV31 for over a month, I'll post a mini review here, in case people are wondering if they should or shouldn't get one.

Mine came unlocked, so I don't really know what to tell you.
KDDI will unlock it for a small fee, but only if you're in Japan, or so I believe.
THANK YOU!

They'll do it for free after 6 months of service, new policy on newer phones like the HTV31 I guess. For those not in Japan/not on Au KDDI, I'm sure there are other methods, some users have bought unlock codes and such. I don't know of any sources though, best to get with those who have done it themselves.
This is more of a silly question.
I got a little piece of debris in a speaker hole.
Any tips on how to clear it out? Lol.

A toothpick maybe? Once had a pen explode in my pocket with my Butterfly 2, got a lot of ink out using rubbing alcohol and a toothpick seemed to fit in the speaker holes. Unless you can get something smaller than a toothpick, it may end up pushing the debris further in now that I think about it.

I used a very thin sewing needle. I'm just amazed something so small got into such a tiny opening.
New update today. I can't apply it since I've been "modifying" my system, but that did allow me to pull the file.
OTA 1.06.970.3 to 1.08.970.7

I do have a question. I have an RUU.zip for the device, but it was a prerelease MFG image for 0.91.997.12.
If I were to flash this to go back to an untouched system, would it get updates back to 1.00 and up?
Or would it just remain at a MFG version?
Caved and ordered an XTC Clip 2 since it supports the HTV31 and was cheaper than other options. Anybody compile TWRP yet? I don't want to root without being able to restore for future OTAs.

Nothing as of yet. I continued to work on it, and it builds, but it doesn't go beyond the HTC splash screen.
A couple others are working on it to, and hit the same problem.
It is only a matter of time though.

If I had any knowledge I'd try to help. Hope you guys are able to get it working, thanks for the effort to get TWRP on our phones.
I see HTC announced the international variant of the Butterfly 3. I'm glad I got the HTV31 because it actually has LTE support for AT&T in the US.
If anyone hasn't noticed, this thread was moved as we now have a Butterfly 3 forum
It's just been announced that HTC will not be releasing Butterfly 3 to the international market after all.
Japan and Taiwan only.
Shame, I was looking forward to this....

I'm sure you can import one, seems like a few users on here have imported them and were successful in sim unlocking them
zabardast!!!! worked!!!!
True, but it means that it won't attract as many devs and that's a shame......
