[Q] battery drops as soon as i unplug - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I just got my gs3 2 weeks ago. Since last week, whenever i unplug it from a night of charging, the battery immediately drops to 98%. I had rooted my phone, but i restored it to like out of the box this past weekend. Is this a known bug?
Thanks.

I don't think the batteries charge past 98% as a fail safe mechanism.

So the 100% is a lie?
also, what's odd is that if i unplug it initially, it drops to 98%. if i plug it back in for a few minutes and then unplug it again, it's up at 100 and seems to drain relatively normally.

The battery life on this phone is a bit of a mystery..I have had mine replaced due to just horrible batt life. It would drop 10% with about 10 mins of browsing. The replacement has been marginally better. I have no idea how people are getting 4 hrs screen on time with 20% left. I just flashed the MIUI JB4.1 Rom and its still not any better. Makes me think I have purchase another batt...

A common problem with the battery life is an error with account synching. Every few phones will have this issue, and it is easily fixed with a factory reset. Basically the phone will try every 3 seconds or so to synch your accounts only to fail, and try again. Causes the phone to drain in less than a half hour.

I retract my previous statement, I obviously don't know how to read.
Still, doesn't hurt to check. Go into your settings and check your accounts. If any of them have a red error symbol when you click on them then you may be having this issue.

It's possible. I got pretty close to that yesterday but that's being connected to wifi all day at work and at home and no videos. It's possible doing very minimalist tasks.

Imo, battery life on this out any around phone is not a mystery. Auto sync, auto bright, auto rotate, anything "auto" will cause more battery to be used. I can also tell you that simply hitting the home button to leave an app, instead of using the back button, will cause more battery drain. Wifi uses less battery than mobile data. Bluetooth will also cause a slightly higher battery drain. Email, or any app, set to push will devour a battery. Leaving apps open when locking the phone will cause slightly higher battery drain. Leaving wifi turned on when not connected to wifi will also cause a drain.
I know a lot of that is what people consider a smartphone to be used for. But with a little tweaking, most can get their battery life better. I personally leave auto everything off, screen timeout 1 minute, screen bright 25%, wifi/bt on only when in use, email set to poll when i open the app. I think you get the idea.

Screen timeout means nothing. Just put your phone to sleep...

Yes the 100% is a lie. Most phone manufactures only allow the phone to charge to 96%-98%. This gives the life of the batteries longevity. When I had the galaxy nexus developers would add 100% charge into their kernels so those who wanted to fully charge their device could...
Also if you look at your phone right after you take it off the charger it will say 98% but if you let the phone sit it goes back up to 100%. Don't know why though. I am no dev just my observations.

[Q] My Stand-By time is about 10 Hours

If I were to leave my phone on without using it, it would die in about 10 hours. Is this normal? It's been like this since stock. I don't think this is normal since my G2 had way better stand-by time.
Please, don't say it has something to do with your settings and stuff, because I had the same things turned on with the same apps on my G2 with way better Stand-by time. GPS and Auto-backup.
Im running bone stock. I recharged after 38 hrs. And still had a 30% chg left
These were 14 hrs after complete chg.

See? This is what I'm not getting. Even since stock my Standby time was horrible. So I rooted to get better battery life. Nothing is changing. I even did a battery calibration to see if the phone was just reading the battery wrong.
I have another question. After the phone is finished charging at 100%, as soon as I take it off the charger, it goes down to 99%. Is that normal? I thought the phone was supposed to stay charged at 100% for a little while.
I just unplugged mine from complete charge and as soon as I unplugged it went to 99. So, yes????

That is normal to drop to 99% immediately. I always charge to full before I go to sleep at night and for some reason if I leave wifi on, the drain is really low when not in use...

Ok. I have no idea what is going on, but my phone just randomly rebooted, froze and then reset my home screen replacement launcher (as if I hit set to default), and now when I went to check on the battery usage and this is what I get:
Android OS is now at about 2% along with other things.
Display is at about 50%.
This is new. Android OS used to ALWAYS be higher then display. That didn't make since.
Now things are different. It seems the display is using the most energy. That is normal. I expect that.
I don't know, but it seems that everything is back to normal. I am using the phone, so I'm expecting this battery drain, but I'll check to see how much battery is drained on stand-by when I go to work later on today.

If you want your phone to last you throughout the day, make sure that "Use Wireless Networks" in Settings -> Location is unchecked. That is the biggest battery guzzler this phone has next to 4G and Brightness. My battery loses 2% all night til I wake up (Thats 8 Hours!!)

I figured it was a Samsung thing. I leave GPS off if that's what you mean, but location services stay on. That's just a me thing.
///////////////////////////
Today after work, I lost 30% energy on standby. That's alright with me. It was about 6 hours of straight standby time. It seems to have gotten better. At times I'd lose at least half of my battery after at least 5 hours.
I don't know how the phone seemed to fix itself, but doing things doesn't just DRAIN the battery anymore. I was playing on the phone fixing my home screen launcher and my battery wasn't dying right in my face. I lost like 2% after having the screen on for about 20 minutes fixing up my settings compared to seeing 5+% in like 10 minutes.
I am satisfied.

Lol, your battery didn't fix itself, that sounds like somethings wrong with the battery cycle. Maybe you need to recalibrate it.
You see, sometimes if you overcharge a phone, especially when using a charger that isn't made for that specific phone (usually a charger thats too strong) it can throw of the charge cycle. Thus, it can take like 30 minutes to drop 50% and then another 3hrs for the other 50% (this is just an example). If you're rooted, I highly recommend doing a full battery calibration.
Secondly, the Use Wireless Networks thing in the location isn't really a samsung thing, i think of it more as a google thing. I noticed that when its on, Google is always sending information back to itself, thus keeping the phone awake longer. Thats why if you go to your graph, it show that your phone is awake more often then it should be. I personally uncheck it, because if i ever need it, I just quickly switch on the gps. Then turn it off when im done.Thats my recommendation to you. Yesterday, I personally got a full 24hr usage out of my battery, and it wasn't even all that light. I texted most of the day, made a few calls, browsed the web, and listened to music for a few hours on the subway. Pretty moderate usage.
See, I'm not exactly unhappy with my battery life... but seeing what other folks around here are getting MAKES me a little unhappy.
I mean, I went to bed at... I'll say around two AM last night at 90% battery. My audio book player ran for thirty minutes after that; woke up at about eleven AM, 53%. NOTHING CLOSE to what you folks are getting. All of the big culprits I've heard mentioned have been checked out, and I just calibrated, so I dunno where else to go with this.

Does anybody see anything unusual about my battery life?
My screen has basically been off, yet I'm still losing weird amounts of battery. Based on the hours, I took my phone off the charger at 4pm Dec. 04 (16:00) and it died at 6am (06:00) Dec. 05. That gap in WiFi was my time at work.
Those bars you see in display right before WiFi get's turned on is me texting and Facebooking. Apparently I wasn't using Facebook enough for it to actually get a place in my battery usage.
And of course those two little bars in the red was my phone telling me that it's dying. Too bad I was sleep.
Ignore the rise after the fall. That's it charging of course.
Also, if you notice, my WiFi apparently wasn't using anything to get a place as well. Those are all the apps that were listed. Why isn't WiFi there?
I calibrated my battery twice already. I can calibrated it again since it fully died. Let me make sure I understand how to calibrate it.
ROM: ACS Syndicated Ice
Kernel: LoS Kernel
1) Phone charged to 100%
2) Phone dies
3) Charge phone to 100%
4) CWM and wipe battery stats
That's what I do to calibrate it.

Add a 5th step which is using the battery calibration app from the market. Also, uncheck wireless networks from location settings (huge battery hog). I assume that's probably your biggest problem. Then, if you are rooted, do what I did, which is get a root explorer and go into system>apps, and move the social hub.apk and media hub.apk to a folder on your SD. It will essentially uninstall it. Those 2 apps are battery hogs as well even if you have never used them. They will always run in the background. Try those and lemme know if it helped.

Wireless network location settings is also mainly used by Google to send them data about your usage. I noticed a significant decrease in battery life whenever this is checked. I would rather just turn on my GPS whenever I need it than keep this function on at all times. Its just not worth it in my book.

battery life improvement

Currently running the CM9 unofficial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1561816)
I have tried radio 0312 and 1111 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134451)
I have tried aeroevan's v10 and v10.5 kernel (http://goo.im/devs/aeroevan/kernel/vivow/)
My battery life is pretty low. At max I can get about 4 hours of usage, throughout the day.
It looses about 20% in a 6 hour sleeping period (deep sleep not working?)
ideas?
thank you.

If I don't use my phone I have 84% at the end of the day. CDMA on (not in airplane mode), wifi on.

What are you synching during the day and at what intervals? Governor and Min Max Speeds? Do you live/work in a crappy signal area? Use a lot of bluetooth or wifi?
I uninstalled facebook and twitter and whatever else asks you for your first born child permission wise, and stopped Maps from starting at basically five or six different system-wide events.
Purchase Autostarts from market and see what is running during each system wide event.

everything is stock in terms of intervals, and governor, and cpu speeds.
I travel all over, so my signal strength goes up and and down. But I think you may have hit the problem.
Before flashing (stock) I pretty much always had 4-5 bars wherever. After flashing (s-off, root, etc), I have never had above 2 bars.
Using my home as an example, I normally had 5 bars of service. Now looking at my phone, I have 1.
Internet speeds are fine (250kb/s down 87kb/s up). Phone call quality is the same.
My signal Strength in front of my computer is -77dbm. Outside my front door is -102dbm.
I wasn't getting the battery life i was, so i did flash v9 and i'm back at 1% battery loss while phone is unused. I wasn't getting that with v10 or v 10.5. I could barely get a day between charge. I should get 2 days with v9 because i did before.

You can try other radios. I understand some have better effects than others with each handset.
Also, I tend to update PRL and such before installing a new ROM using a stock ROM.
I have already tried the two recommended radios. The funny part is 0322 was the radio my phone had before I hacked it.
after flashing each rom you have to program and that updates the PRL anyways.
But just to be sure i did the roaming capabilities, and no change.
Ill try v9 of the kernel. anything else?

Na, the phone was fine on battery before the hack, from past experiences it's always been even better after. Maybe I'll restock and see if that helps.
Yeah Facebook has been performing poorly on many people's phones especially while on 3g. Sometimes loading very slowly and sometimes not at all. It has also been causing a wake lock problem which I personally experienced that wakes your phone while it should be asleep (not the screen just the os.) That causes battery life to be poor for many users.
I hear that FriendCaster is much better if you want an app to replace the app! Or some are using the mobile site if they don't care about notifications. Personally I just uninstalled Facebook after I started having problems and haven't been on Facebook since.
Try uninstalling the app and see if that helps. It nearly doubled my battery life when I did.

If, after rooting or more likely that case after flashing a new rom, you often have battery reporting errors, and re-calibrating the battery along with these steps may help, may not. But, worth a try anyhow:
1. Take the case off your device (one of the latter steps involves taking the battery out from the phone while it's plugged in. Make sure your case won't stand in the way.)
2. Install Battery Calibration app from the market
3. Plug in your device to charge while it's on, wait till it gets to a 100%
4. When the charge is 100%, open the BatteryCalibration app and lookup what the charge is in MV while at 100%. Write it down.
My Atrix 2 was showing ~3400MV while at 100%, which is definitely not the maximum capacity.
5. Discharge your device completely until it shuts off.
A good way of doing this quickly is by turning on wifi, and a video player.
6. Without turning on the phone plug it into a wall charger and let it get to 100%
7. When it's at 100%, without unplugging it from the wall charger, take off the battery cover, and take the battery out.
Your phone will "reboot" and show a Missing Battery icon.
8. Without unplugging the phone from the wall charger or turning it on, put the battery back in and wait until the phone recognizes the battery.
9. Your battery should now be recognized by the phone, and showing a charge % significantly lower than 100%.
Mine showed only 5%.
10. Let it sit there charging for 2-3 hours (or more).
My phone wouldn't charge past 10%, but yours might. The numbers don't matter much as the phone is definitely getting additional charge that could have been lost while flashing ROMs, etc.
11. After 2-3 hours (or more), turn the phone on while holding the volume down button and get into CWM (if installed) or use Rom Manager (is device is supported).
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
12. Wipe battery stats in CWM, reboot.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
13. When the phone turns on, go into Battery Calibration app again and look up your MV numbers -if you were like me, they should be significantly higher than before. After this whole process I had 4351MV at 100%, comparing to 3400MV before calibration.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
14. Before going to sleep - Install Watchdog Task Manager Lite from the market. Go into it's preferences, set CPU threshhold to 20%, check "Include phone processes", check "Monitor phone processes", check "Display all phone processes", set system CPU threshhold to 20% as well.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
15. Make sure your wifi and data connections are off. Now finally unplug the phone from the charger.
Go to bed, let your phone sleep too.
16. Success! Next morning check where your battery % is at and if you followed the instructions correctly / got lucky like me, your battery life should be 90% or more.
I went to bed with 98% and woke up to 94%. So, I consider this mission a success.

I also support FriendCaster. The facebook app hardly worked when I used it. The only time it half worked was when I was home and on wifi. I actually like what FriendCaster...I like what it does with the layout and I feel it's a lot more intuitive then the official app anyway. Plus for some reason facebook had become a datahog. This could be OPs problem in terms of battery drainage because Im pretty sure they download a lot in the background.

How can you troubleshoot certain parts of your phone?

Hi All,
So recently I have been having problems with my battery life. It's not lasting as long as it should. However, I do not know whether or not its my data cable, the device that plugs into the wall, my battery, or the charging port in my phone.
I got my phone from best buy, but it was more than 30 days ago, and I have no insurance on it, so I cannot get a replacement without sending it away for at least $100.
Any tips?
Well what battery life are you getting? Get into the Phone settings and then battery settings and post a snapshot of the graph here. Additionally you can also install Batterystat it will give you a full analysis of what's using up your battery power.

I think I may have narrowed it down to the battery itself? I have some battery apps that tell me the health is "good," but what does that really mean? My charging cable is iffy, because sometimes it works perfectly, charging to 100 just fine. However, other times it charges 20 percent in 9 hours. When I used my friend's Note II charger, it worked perfectly every-time. But the fact of the matter is, when my phone does charge to 100 from my cable, I still get not the best battery life, which leads me to believe it's my battery's fault. I am going to test out charging my phone to 100% with my friend's cable tonight, and see what happens tomorrow. I will also get batterystat and report back.
Also, this may be important. When I first got my phone, battery life was AMAZING, really quite astounding. It's just kind of dropped down, like a slope. Not a sudden, dramatic drop, but incrementally.
As for the battery info below, here is what went on today. I unplugged my phone from 100% at around 7am. It is now 6pm. Today, my phone was barely used, just sitting in my pocket with wi-fi on. When I did use it, I sent two very quick emails, played scramble with friends for about 45 minutes total, took a few photos, listened to music from the music player for about 15 minutes, and that is really all I did. I feel that my percentage should be much higher than what it is listed as.
Here's mine as you can see I'm getting almost twice your battery life. I have a few apps that i use everyday which are basically whatsapp, xda, chrome. I don't have many apps that would wake the phone constantly and if there is then I disable them from starting up when the phone is not in use. The best tool you can use for something like this would be rom toolbox pro. It's multiple system tools in one and it works great. I'm currently on Omega V10 with perseus kernel. Also I don't connect to wifi much and network here is weak and on 2G but even though I still get this battery life. In areas with good signal I get more battery life. Also I've dropped my phone twice with impact points on the corner, and just minor scuffs but that didn't effect the phones performance or battery life so I doubt it has affected yours.

Also I've overclocked, my processor to 1.8ghz and undervolted between - 50 and -100. So i get minimal power wastage from heat build up. Also you can set a black wall paper with a dark theme.

Unfortunately, I am not rooted, and haven't planned on doing so ever. Is there anything else I can do to fix my problem? I did download batterystats, and am waiting a few days though to see what it tells me.
Also, I used a different charger just to see what would happen today, and even though its been off the charger for 2 hours, it's already down to 94 percent. So I am thinking that there is either something wrong with the battery, the charging port, or could there be a bug in the phone's software?
I am thinking of getting a new battery, and seeing if that fixes my problem. I'm just so irritated because battery life used to be amazing, and I don't know what happened.
Maybe try a factory reset. Maybe something else has been using your battery.

That's what I was thinking. I will probably do that and report back, before going out and buying a battery or something. Is it possible that, although not reported in the battery info, that an app could be rogue or something or taking up battery? I don't want to do a factory reset and redownload a bad app.
Update: I tried a factory reset. It seems to either be worse or just the same. It's been an hour and has dropped to 97 percent, but I have made a couple of phone calls. But compared to before I did a factory reset, it dropped to 96 percent in two hours while not doing anything.
Keep your phone on charging over night.
Then let it drain to zero no matter what.
Do this 3 to 4 times and then
Leave it for charging overnight.
Then while it is already charging use battery calibration.

Quick Update:
I did another factory reset after I said the initial one didn't help. It looks like it may have helped, although I still have not gotten the battery life I used to have.
I found an application here called betterybatterystats, and have downloaded that. I will use my phone throughout today, and will post sceenshots.
If need be, I will take your advice about charging and draining and charging, and then do the battery calibration.
Here are my most reset battery stats. Screenshots are from the battery setting area, and betterbatterystats
Maybe I am just being paranoid and nothing is wrong? I can't make any sense out of these readings, but I hope someone else can.
first of all change you cable if you are having that kind of issues. Mine in my galaxy ace was having that problem, it was like connect/disconnect without any reason and it didnt charged my phone at all. I noticed it when it was too late, the continous on/off kill my battery. When I say kill i mean it just lasts 15 min in 3g with screen on and it happened to me in 2 official batteries.
good luck!

Post your 10000 mah Zerolemon Battery results

Wanted to start this thread cuz I just received my 10000 mAh extended battery from zerolemon and wanted to post my results keep in mind this is the first day I've had the battery in and on the first full 12 hour charge that zerolemon recommends on the first charge and then it says to run the battery all the way dead but my sense I'm going to do the last 10% as shown in the picture but I'm going to charge it up full and going on today and see if I get any different results I was just curious on if anybody else has this battery yet and I wanted to see your results
Overall
Just screen on time
My battery percentage still isn't accurate and I've had mine for about a week.

I've had mine for 3 days, and this seems to be fairly consistent with the results that you're getting. after 1 day and 8 hours, I'm at 19%. slightly above yours, but not worryingly so. Im going to drain it down to 2-1%, and then charge it back up to 100% again. I believe if you do that for 5 charging cycles, it should be totally recalibrated. That said, you do not want to bring your battery that low on a constant basis, as it can damage lithium ion batteries.
I also use Battery Monitor Widget Pro, which gives a fairly accurate representation of how the battery is doing. I certainly recommend checking it out, for those of you who are starting to use the ZeroLemon battery.

after 2 days and 3 hours, I downloaded a battery drainer. The battery percentage was at 1% for a total of 12 hours, from 9pm yesterday, to about 9am this morning. I was able to continue watching Netflix and listen to Spotify at 1% both for about 2 hours respectively in that time frame. When I got into work this morning, I used the battery drainer for about 25 seconds before the phone finally quit on me and shut off the phone. I guess that means that Android is still trying to calibrate to the battery.
With all of that said, once you get down below 5% the phone shuts off the ability to manually adjust the screen brightness, and the stock music player will no longer allow you to play music (which is kind of a bummer, as I do have about 15 gigs of music on the phone, and had to switch to using Spotify on my bus ride home....through the Lincoln Tunnel). I don't know what else the phone shuts off, yet. I'll be sure to do a more in depth look next time it gets down that low...which may take another 2-3 days...
Bump on status updates?

I've had my ZL battery since release (pre-order), I use it on and off. It still hasn't adjusted to having the larger battery. When it gets down to 3% I bump the corner and it resets the phone giving me 30+% more.
It still lasts way longer than stock, so that's good. I just wish the phone would show the correct battery level.

If I understand your question correctly, you're asking whether or not the phones been rebooted? If so, none. During that time of 4 days + hours, the phone went to standby mode when not in use. So I haven't turned off the auto standby mode off to leave the "screen on continously."
Just wanted to post a typical day for me. I play a game called ingress, it's a real battery hog.
The spike is a trick I do. When the phone gets really low it dims the screen and enters a power save mode. This sucks for playing a game in the day light... The trick is to give it a quick whack in the upper left corner, it moves the battery just enough to do a quick reset. You could do it manually, but sometimes that changes the battery history.

Battery Reducing Quickly?

Hello everyone, new to the forum since I just picked up my note 10+ and thiught this forum seemed more knowledgeable than others for battery issues or issues in general. I dont really know if it's an issue but I'm curious of how others people batteries are acting for their note 10+'s. Mine died a few hours ago and once it hit 100% I removed the charger and didn't use it for just over an hour and I noticed my battery went down to 2%. I have my always on screen on of course, most of the apps were dead and I did optimize the battery in the settings while my phone was charging then stopped using it until it charged fully. So I had no apps open and I had a version of battery saving on. I did medium but left the higher res screen on including the cpu at 100%. Would this cause my battery to go down 2% in an hour without any use?
For a side question, is there a better way to get the most out of your battery? I always thought it was let it die everyone inna while but I read recently charging it to 80 then letting it down to 60 and back up to 80 and repeat is the best? If that's true, how do you keep that up and how long will you need to keep that before normal chargers?
Thanks. Hope someone can help
If it went down 2% in an hour, that's 50 hours of standby plus always on display. That's crazy good.

Best way to go is using normal charge an never let the battery drop below 20% forget about trying to maintain certain range (60-80), it will just drive you crazy

If I put my iPad mini to sleep at 100%, I wake up the next morning with 100%. Maybe 99. But usually 100.
That's not the norm, and it's not perfect apples to apples, but it is possible.
Also, 2 days of standby with zero use is not unusual, but definitely not "crazy good".

Wow that is unusual. Do a search for "sleeping apps" in setting and add all the apps you don't need running in the back ground. Also in device care > battery you can see what app is using your battery.

So besides that little fight you had with the other forum member (lol) I appreciate your comment. But there seems to be back and forth, one other person says its good, another says its not. (the one I quoted below). Just seems weird to me that with no open or running apps and just the always on display running that it went down in an hour in 2%. Searching around, people saying losing 1% In an hour with the same set up, no running apps with AOD is bad. I kind of agree since its not truly in use. But unfortunately I cannot find any battery standby tests from Samsung or anyone else to confirm it.

I agree with you more honestly that it shouldn't be going down that fast in an hour with just the AOD running. I didn't have any apps running once it 100%, I was on it while charing it to around 50% but then once I knew I was putting it down for a while I ran the optimization and had the phone kill all the apps. When I saw it go down the 2% I did check out the apps using the battery and the AOD was the only thing listed. Maybe I didn't charge to a full 100%? even though it said 100%... Ill check it out tomorrow once I charge it fully again, today I was charging it up and down most of the day sadly. I try and keep most apps from not running in the background, some I do need though like for my IoT devices needing to know my location, I have yet to change that to just using LTE as my location GPS, but that was not on last night all. Ill try out the sleeping apps though, I didn't know there was a setting for that. Thanks again
AOD typically consumes 1%~2% in my past note devices(7,8,9)

Battery optimization takes a little bit so if you just started using the phone give it a few days.
Also, package disabler or ADB can be used to turn off any major things that you are not using (i.e. Bixby or DeX).
Regarding Cell life: Yes between about 30% and 80% are the optimal percents. That doesn't mean try and always keep it there, that would just be silly and unrealistic.
However, it is important to be conscious of this. For example, don't leave your phone on the charger for days on end sitting at 100%. Don't leave your phone in a drawer or a backpack with 0% in the cells.
Cells are technically damaged (or worn would be a better word) every cycle. The most damage comes from when the voltage drops to its lowest point and its highest point. (i.e. 0% and 100%)
For example, if someone were to charge a LiPo or Li-Ion battery only between 30% - 80% for an entire year and another person with the same phone always went down to 1% and always to 100%, the latter phone would have more cell wear thus it would not hold as much power.
Once you learn of this and become conscious of this then you tend to adjust your habits. All other myths and theories about battery calibration have really not been a thing in many many generations of Android. While you can screw up battery calibration through a service menu, rarely (if at all) a battery loses calibration. Most people start seeing battery wear and think its a calibration issue and then seek ways to fix this. At that point, it cannot be achieved because there is a physical change to their battery which can only be refreshed by getting a new battery.
Reporting my battery life. I guess this is truly an all day device.
Give it a couple days to settle. The first three days, mine got pretty bad battery life. Then yesterday I got almost 10 hours of screen time after using it pretty heavy all day. Mixture of Facebook (battery hog), Internet, texting, emailing, and using the camera (also a battery hog). What finally killed the battery was me downloading, installing, and uninstalling multiple versions of GCam trying to find one that worked well enough to use. I finally found one before my phone hit 0%.

In an hour? Last night I even scheduled it off and had no running apps and medium power saving mode fully on and lost 5% battery in roughly 7 hours with no use.

This is useful, thank you. Never knew not discharging device is the way to go but we all learn new things every day. I'm at 65% right now, when waking up at 6am with 95%. Wireless android auto for about an hour, plus okay-ish use. Ill make sure to charge it up to around 80% tonight.

Thanks, I think I am seeing a bit better today after having it for 4 days or so now? Ill follow the above quote about calibration and go from there.

Over 8 hours screen time is great, best I've gotten so far is 7.5 hours
I just wanted to throw my two cents in here... My battery life is pretty terrible in comparison to my S10+. Trying to find a rogue app of some sort but I just hit 1% with 12 hours off the charger. Keep in mind that is not 12 hours of use. In fact I used it for about an hour of total screen time today.

Yeah I came from an S10+ and noticed my battery on the N10+ was pretty bad in comparison.
I did restore everything from my S10+ though, not a clean install of everything.
Wonder if that may be causing issues.
Is everyone having problems on Verizon?
Quote " Last night I even scheduled it off and had no running apps and medium power saving mode fully on and lost 5% battery in roughly 7 hours with no use."
Unless you put it in airplane mode, your phone will keep connected to cell tower (or wifi if you have wifi calling) otherwise you won't receive calls and messages, so there is no such thing as phone with no use, and if you have weak signal or some interference your battery usage can increase drastically even in standby because the cell radio will try to connect at full transmit power. And then you have all those programs running in the background, God knows what they're doing. As others suggested disable programs you don't use, also you can force close programs that you don't use often. When I had my older Note rooted, I optimized it so well it would run 2% down per 8 hrs overnight, but it took some effort. Biggest problem is to know what to disable without loosing functionality for stuff you need. Give it some time for people to learn more about new phone. BTW my 3 day old phone has 435 apps and services installed and most of them I have no idea what they do.
