T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 Made in China - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Just got my SGS4 from T-Mobile and I haven't even unboxed it yet. But I noticed that the box says "Phone Made in China." I've seen quite a few unboxing videos for the AT&T and Sprint versions and the box said the phone was made in Korea. I guess it doesn't really matter where the phone is made, but I found it interesting that there is a possibility that phones for different carriers are made in different countries.

Too bad! I rather have phones made in Korea rather than China! For some reasons, China makes the phone feel cheaper.

Yep, my S4 was made in China as well... Perhaps this explains the massive amounts of availability on T-mobile?

The proof is in the pudding, but as a general rule I don't trust the Chinese as much as I do South Koreans.

This is hopefully good news regarding the dreaded smearing that is becoming all to common in certain i9505's.
Can someone with a Tmo S4 please confirm if it's smearing in the setting menu while scrolling etc....
Here's the main thread for it...

I haven't noticed any smearing/ghosting. I looked hard, but that may be just me not noticing it.
On a different note, I noticed that the upper front of the screen gets uncomfortably warm at times.

Thanks for the response. That's good news on the no smearing!!

Hey to all the early S4'ers, before this forum get's HUGE!
Yea sucks to have it say Made in China, but for what it's worth, it's still made by Samsung China division.
There's no doubt there are sometimes quality issues, although small with phones made in China vs S.Korea which are superior.
Either way...be happy..it's all good.
Enjoy!

The ONLY thing I care about is the screen smearing. Hopefully it's not an issue with the Tmo batch.

Hey anyone having the screen brightness go up n down automatically. ..even if the auto adjust screen tone is turned off...mine came with two scuffs on the bezel too...thinking of returning and getting a new one...it sucks

I don't discriminate against the average Chinese worker & the average Korean worker. Both have families with mouths to feed.
I'm glad both countries are making the SGS4.

ok

Samsung outsourcing to China is just typical corporate business model. Its probably just more economic business sense to supply the material to the abundant and specifically designed electronics factories in China, and then pay what is probably a substantially lower wage to the readily available Chinese worker than they would to the South Korean. They are highly westernized in South Korea with an economy not unlike ours here in America and that's not to mention the business and goods China is probably throwing back into South Korea...its a corporate to government handshake and doesn't in any way signify an inferior quality in the product. Rest assured that the quality control would have to be just as strict in the Chinese plants to ensure the brand premium that Samsung represents and requires.

Auto adjust screen tone or auto brightness? Also, you might want to check Adapt Display (don't know if that's an app or setting), but I believe it's supposed to automatically adjust brightness depending on the app you're using. That's my guess.

Turn off your Adapt Display mode. It's there to change the look based on the type of media you're looking at, be it photos, videos, web browsing, etc. It's not a problem.

1/8/11 according to this...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373771&highlight=white
The date gels since Sprint has launched phones on a Sunday in the past. I hope it holds true as its three days after my birthday, so it'd make a nice few day late gift.
That thread is nothing official but it would seem silly for Spint to be the only carrier with the GSII and not have the white model. Plus it seems the white Evo sold well though I have ZERO facts or figures to back that up. Just know I see quite a few of them out in the wild.
I'm curious about how popular white is. I suspect white isurged in popularity with Apple's problem with the white iPhone 4 issue. I think subconsciencly this triggered people to want white phones. I see a lot more of them now.
Baaaabaaaaa, we are all just sheep.
I seriously doubt they'll make any serious hardware changes like that for the white ET.

I work at a preferred retailer, and even though I haven't heard anything about it, it makes total sense. Our prices are set to end 1/7, same with mail in rebates. It almost ALWAYS seems that a new phone launches when the pricing planogram resets. I hope so, I like the white. :-D

I don't see why it wouldn't. The OG Epic had it (loved using Voodoo sound) and with HTC pushing Beats Audio, they may want to improve audio even though they wouldn't market it.

Well that is some pretty good evidence to help support the date. I hope it holds true and by that point a solid build of CM7 is done and ready for the GSIIE4GT. I can't imagine a world without a more or less "vanilla" AOSP version of Android.
Trying to get this thread back on topic... I'm no rom developer but wouldn't a change in chipset require two different roms? Seems silly for a manufacture to have to support what is essentially two different devices for what on the surface seems like nothing more than a color change. Thus this seems unlikely.

Ridiculous crap screen

I already have a CDMA Verizon nexus.
I order a GSM nexus and got it yesterday.
The difference between the two screens is so ridiculously noticeable I want to smash the phone
The original verizon one is vibrant and bright.
The new gsm one is dull looking. it flickers slightly when I do solid color tests. whites look dull.
Absolute fricken BULL ****.
Go eat **** google
Dont feed the troll my little [put in any word].
Maybe you just got a bad one?
Thought about it?
I've had both and never noticed a difference between the two. Maybe something is wrong with your new one.
Its a common thing as ive read in other posts but its googles fault for allowing it to happen.
You know Google doesn't manufacture the phones, right?

He a troll, anybody with half a brain would just ask for a replacement if it was that bad/defective. I got a lemon evo 3d,, posting a thread bashing the phone isn't gonna fix it, Radio Shack replaced it immediatly. In before lock!
I received a terrible screen from Verizon for my first phone. I was dull, and had weird banding and a dead pixel... They did t believe me until I made them compare mine to a display model. The only issue I had getting a new one was that I had accidentally let the play store re download titanium backup. They then tried to say I was rooted, root checker failed, then they tried to aay the app broek my screen.....

i'm going to make this simple for you since you clearly have no understanding of how this all works.
google hired samsung to manufacture the phone.
samsung makes phone and QC checks their batches.
samsung then packages and sends phones to google for sale
google takes ALREADY PACKAGED PHONES IN THE BOX and sells them
do you honestly believe google is going to open up sealed boxes and check every phone? if you do, you are completely insane and need to be checked in somewhere.

Is my T-Mobile Note 2 refurbished? Please let me know what you think. Thank you.

I received my Note 2 a few days ago. I found no screen defects, although my volume button is loose (and was confirmed normal as per other XDA member's feedback). I have a tiny black marker above the earpiece on the bezel (also confirmed by another fellow XDA member), and I know it sounds like I have OCD, but $700 dollars is not little. Also, I should mention, I purchased my device without contract from T-Mobile on their website, and the retail box (pristine clean condition) came in a bubble wrapped bag instead of an actual box I was expecting. Lastly, while un-boxing, I noticed I didn't find any plastic clear tape to remove on the sides of the bezel like I did in the previous Note (International version). My Note 2 only came with the T-Mobile Logo on front and Plastic on the back cover. Today, I tried registering the product on Samsung's website, and came across the message that my phone's Manufacture Date is 11/30/1993.
Is whatever I described above something to be concerned about? Or am I just being too anal. What about the warranty? Is my device refurbished? Should I have purchased at a retail store instead? My phone apparently came from Kentucky (Origin on UPS Scan shows Louisville, Kentucky) with a pre-paid return label to Forth Worth, Texas.
Relax..... That's not a refurbished device. You can check under the battery and it will be listed as a refurb.
I had 3 Note 2's with Sprint before moving here. They all came the same way. There's no tape on the sides of the phone. Only the screen and and back cover are protected by plastic.

I have purchased 2 notes from tmobile and they have both come in a padded mailer vs. an actual box. The inside boxes were sealed though, I had to slice through seals to open the box. I recall on the international version the back plastic actually wraps around a little to cover the sides, I think it was the same with the tmobile version as well. You can't rule it out entirely but it seems unlikely you got a refurb, in my opinion.

Do you even have to ask? Consider the source, the world we live in for a moment. The fact is some devices are sold "New" even if they technically need be listed as refurb. If you feel so confused, instead of asking internet strangers about your own device, I'd return it online and buy one in store if it makes you feel any better. But at the end of the day it's just a cell phone

I'm not feeling confused; its really just the manufacturer date I am more concerned about. It might be just a cell phone to you, but $700 dollars invested into a machine like this is not little. I've noticed quality issues on the Note 2, notably the bezel. The bezel is a throwback to the GS2 with the cheap electroplated plastic. Too easy to scratch, and out of the 3 or 4 I have had, most of them suffered from some sort of manufacturing defect. The GS3s bezel is actually constructed much beter, and I was hoping it would be the same. Instead it's identical to the Note 1 or the GS2.
I wonder how Samsung is able to sell something like this of very poor build quality. It's very shocking and insulting.
Very poor build quality? I have to disagree with you on that. They are built different, lots of plastic that's all. As far as I know anyway. My 3rd Galaxy phone model, and 4th total. I've never had an issue with any of them. However, for $700 I'd expect perfection regardless of where it's made. If you aren't happy definitely contact them.

What are you even talking about??
I've gone through a few Note 2s now (long story), but all of them arrived in a very thin bubblewrap bag, and had the back plastic wrap on loose/wrinkled/something. I'm not sure why that happens, but they were all new and unused. One had a power button that didn't work right, the other had a deep nick on the side (ironically, near the power button) - and that was painted so it was definitely a defect, and then another one had a bad speaker.
The 4th still doesn't sound quite as good as I recall the 1st sounding, but everything otherwise is great and fine so I'm sticking with that one.
Also, I think the front edge of the ring that goes around the sides of the phone has paint that chips, possibly? I think those with the white Note 2s could provide more info about that, because I also see tiny black specs there sometimes, but I can't tell if it's dirt/dust or just the paint, or what? It's really hard to tell since the grey ones are painted really dark hehe.
Awesome phones though!
Also noting: All of these were made in China, and one says rev 1.1 on the box and had a slightly clickier home button (made on 12/3 I think?) but all were virtually identical otherwise. They're really nice phones, just.. not HTC or Apple quality hardware-wise I guess.

[Q] I'm about to upgrade from...

Morotola Milestone 2... I'm looking to buy Samsung Captative Glide i927, the sub forum is a lot more active and there are plenty of diferent roms to choose from.
Is it a worthy upgrade from a MM2?
Thank you.
Depending on your radio requirements, you should consider the Relay 4G. Its only downside over the Glide is its 4G isn't compatible with AT&T (but it's fully quad-band EDGE/UMTS), and the community just took off like a rocket this month.
I'll ride my Glide until it can't run the newest Android comfortably anymore, but if I was buying now, without a doubt in my mind, I'd get an unlocked Relay.

I'm from Argentina, I will look up what bands the carrier use here. Thank you, Relay 4G seems a strong candidate in my book, too bad I can't get it here via normal means, that is something I have to deal with down here, the choices are really non existant, that is why I'm also looking for someone or some business to get me one from USA.
Can I ask you some questions about your Glide? Because this one I can get it in Argentina, for about 450-475 USD, brand new in box, unlocked.
Edit1: the Relay 4G is a beast of a phone (dualcorewise), but dang it! the OLED is a pentile matrix
Still my account is not activated, I have to wait 5 min even to edit.
Edit2: neverming, I've just read the forum help.
Edit3: What is you opinion/feeling on the i927 Forums and development of ROMS? Still ongoing? Stuck? Dying?

If your carrier doesn't even offer HSPA+ specifically (I don't know the situation in your country), I wouldn't even bother. Both Glide and Relay will operate 3G in all four bands used in the US, and neither are LTE capable. If one won't work, neither will the other.
As for procurement: you may find someone on eBay US that will ship internationally. They may request some payment method other than Paypal (due to Paypal/eBay's reputation of siding with the buyer even when said buyer is very obviously and blatantly in the wrong). It's up to you whether the hassle (+exchange rate) is worth it.

Glide is also pentile, and a very obvious pentile at that (red has a plainly visible pattern). Looking at the specs, it's very likely the Relay and Glide have the exact same screen.

It's been aggravatingly slow since forever, and has cooled a bit but she's not dead yet. Relay is definitely more active right now. The fact that the Glide's SoC is rather exotic (the Tegra 2 specifically is freakin' WEIRD) and a pain to develop for hasn't helped any. That said, what we have right now is still pretty recent and is above and beyond DD quality (where the Relay ROMs have just gotten off the ground and still have some glaring issues).

Speaking of LTE... if that's what you need, look at the Stratosphere II. Yes, it's VZW which is CDMA, but it's an international device meaning it also has a GSM radio, and supports all common LTE bands instead of just whatever VZW uses.
That said, you'd be taking a serious gamble in the ROM dev department -- as of this moment we know NOTHING about the bootloader (it's not even rooted yet) leave alone what nasty surprises there could be waiting for us once we can flash it. And VZW has been by far the worst about bootloaders.
well...

I think they do not even do HSPA+, but even so, I'm not in need of H+ or LTE/4G speeds, my plan only has 512mb/month and I'm barely using half of it, I do not travel a lot, I do comute a lot, and the rest of the time I have WiFi access (I work at IT), so there is that. I'm happy with the 4mb/1mb I get with the 3G, I mostly need it to check mails, be online, Skype, access some servers via RDP and reddit.

Seeing that the Motorola Photon Q LTE has the SIM card soldered, I will try to see about the MM4. But yeah, I have to see if the hassle, and the waiting times are worth it to me, I had the MM2 for 13 months now, before that I have the Samsung Galaxy Spica (really really low end phone) but made me fell in love with Android.

Crap, in the MM2 I dont even see the pixels (it is a 3.7" screen with 852*480). I tried to google some screen reviews of the Glide but found nothing, that bad is it? I wish I could see it before buying it...

As long there are some cool CM ROMs I'm up for it. The fact is that with my MM2 there are only 4, CM7.1 is totally dead, there is MS2GINGER (which I rather not) and CM10/10.1 which are painfully slow on my device. That is why I recon it is time to change, also I bought it used, so it was an old model when I bought it. I'm poor, and the prices are insane.

I think I will keep researching and trying to cool off myself, I was about to pull the trigger on the Glide, but the pentile and 4row keyboard got me thinking, I has stuff that I like/want (1gb RAM, dual core, slide Keyboard) and stuff that I dont, pentile matrix and 4row keyboard. (mm2 also has 4 row keyboard, but I want an upgrade on everything if I'm putting a lotta money on it).
Would you recommend the Glide if the year were 2011/2?
Bottom line, I cant decide yet it seems. Thank you.
edit1: I'm about to pull the trigger on the Glide (it is theRogers version, so that makes it an i927R, that $2900[pesos] are about 467 USD official price or about 350usd black market us dollar price [black market dollar is abut 67% more than official one, the country is in the ****, dont be mistaken, is more than a half month salary of mine.), I've contacted the seller, and awaiting his/her reply.
Besides the pentile screen, on how bad could it be, how flat are the keys? are they totally flat? the action is clicky, springy or rubbery?
Thx again.
xtacb4, I'm from Argentina, and I have a Glide since the early days on 2012, if you want, you can add me on Skype with the same username as here on XDA.

Development on the GLide has slowed to a crawl. No disrespect to the developers they are the best but most have now moved away from the Glide which is now almost a 2 year old phone. I love my Glide but I am envious of all the new Phones coming out with larger displays, LTE and now even IR. Wish I could control my TV with my Glide without need for any other attachment or computer. Our GLide is still one of the best Hardware Keyboard devices but the bad battery drain that makes me have to add an oversize battery making it look like a phone from 5 years ago. We will never get an official JB from our carriers as they have dropped support for our phone already. As for JB from our developers it is promising but unfortunately Bluetooth headset profile is not working or very flaking that makes it not a viable solution especially for those of us that live in areas where it is ilegal to hold your handset and drive.
My recommendation is get the GLide if it is very cheap as it is still a decent phone, but if you can shell out a little more cash get something newer with more support from it's carrier and more people on it in the XDA community.

Where should I report that with CM10.1 M3 (M2 too) my Morotola S305 BT headset has music and controls working ok? no phone audio though.

Are all Tmo S4's made in China? possibility that Google Edition wil also be China?

Just wondering if the experience with all Tmo S4 owners so far if their handsets are all made in China or are there some that were korean made?
Just read that the Google Edition will likely be a modified Tmo edition.
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s4-nexus-t-mobile-212316/
If the above holds true then that means the Google Editions will also be China made.
I originally bought 2 AT&T S4's one white 16gb and a black 32gb, both are korean made.
I returned the white (launch date unit) due to 1 dead pixel and some cosmetic flaws, miss-aligned camera bezel and raised earpiece trim.
so far the black 32gb is perfect.
I am thinking of replacing the returned white 16gb with a google edition. But weighing my Pros can Cons.
I've read that the pure nexus software will not have support for Air Gestures (since it's a part of touchwizz) and likely other features samsung added in. That's a CON for me.
the China vs. Korea is also a CON, in the past I've owned a Korean Note GT-N7100 and my parents had 2 China made AT&T notes, upon careful inspection, the fit and finish was better on my Korean made unit (not sure why my white s4 was bad though)
Nexus software is PRO, due to the fact there is no bloat and will have more available space on the 16gb model.
Unlocked and working LTE on both Tmo and ATT is a PRO... easier resale, and more flexibility moving between carriers.
Let me know what you guys think and if your unit is China or Korea.
Thanks.
This made in China is bad is bull..no issues with the China made S4. They all go through the same quality inspection so should be same.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2
it doesnt matter where it came from people. its made in a sumsung factory, under the same inspections. the only difference is location. stop being paranoid and just appreciate the phone already

If only that were true, and here come all the stories about samsung using under-aged labor in China, if they can't stay honest about the age of their labor who's to say they will uphold the same level of QC as the factory in Korea?
I am skeptical, but who knows, if there are more reports the korean made units I might be swayed.
as a matter of fact I am enjoying my Korean made black 32gb just fine at the moment :good:
just on the edge if I should go Google Edition for my other S4 for my other line.

Same with fake boobies. All that really matters is the end result NO? QC matters to me and that is all. Now my wife is asian also. I'm just partial to atttractive women period.
:devilsadvocate:
I personally feel the OP is thinking too much. $649 price tag means it's the exact same s4 but with a Google stamp. Everything will be the same whereas the software may be different.
