Is 4.3 on the G pad? - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this an obvious question, but I'd really like to know if I'd have to root/unlock it to flash some more recent Android version.
Speaking of which, how difficult is it to flash/unroot?

At least put an effort into researching.

Lmao post with no answer.. put some effort its just 2-3 keys "no" then "yes" WOOT!
No man not yet. They do have plans to.

It's true that the answer is a simple no. But I had to learn the hard way when I first jumped into this site a few years ago that people do not like to be asked questions that are easy to answer. You don't even have to look on this website. Simply look at the spec sheet on LG's website and you will see that it comes with 4.2 .2. There is already a rootkit out for the device but no roms at this time. I honestly don't think you need a newer version at this time. 4.2 .2 jelly bean does everything you need in my opinion. Otherwise get a Nexus device. I have a Nexus 4 running Kit Kat Paranoid Android and Franco kernel and I couldn't be happier. But when it comes to my tablet I just wanted for basic consumption and a stock Android is perfectly fine. Just my opinion.

What is it that you are going to gain from updating to 4.3? The bigger number? There is a lot more that can be improved in the ROM than going to 4.3

I'll just keep mine or upgrade to the 32GB TMO version when it comes out. I'm guessing its the US Snapdragon version (compatible w/ AT&T & TMO) & we should be able to install it on ours w/o any issues. I'm all guessing here.

You shouldn't feel bad about your purchase. I'm quite happy with mine so far (except the overheating issue lately).
I don't have the AOSP version yet, so I can't really speak of the features that are/aren't going to be there.
I'm guessing if they make it true stock Android, there will be no Samsung bloat at all.
So it's basically a much more powerful version than any Nexus phone will ever be,
and as such the price is quite high. Personally, I would not consider it at that price.
I'm happy with my T-Mo, and with a few customization here or there, I can always get stock.
This is really geared toward the hard-core Android fans/developers. You can't doubt the S4 has the best internal hardware
of any phone out there, and there lies possibilities.
I also heard the news from google I/O. Does this mean that this version of the S4 will be as open as a nexus and easy for developers to make their custom ROMs for it?

Sony basically did the same thing with the ZR, took complaints and made a new phone out of it
Just purchased a 600$ Ip57 phone? Well there's IP58 now! (Waterproof not resistant)
It's good to have options, but honestly most people that buy pure vanilla Android are experienced users. Most will have no clue rather it's Vanilla or not.
So there in lies the questions. Why put this out after and most that come here that have an s4 already hacked it to death no? So I don't see the point of the users here who want to upgrade to this when you just put a vanilla type ROM on it.

Not true. my nexus 4 gets bugs every once in a while.
If the hardware is identical to the tmoble version then you should just be able to flash the image through Odin right? Seems kind of like the galaxy nexus where you flash takju from yakju or whatever and boom, you are getting the Google play version of updates, wallet functionality etc. If anything it says Samsung has opened their flagship to aosp right?
Even if you think $650 is too much this means that potentially, Samsung will get touch wiz updates to new versions faster as there will be nexus level compatibility with each new android update. I'm not saying immediate but they will have an inside track based on the fact that Google will actively update their device through AOSP for at least 2 years.

CM will always have bugs due to the way they change the Android coding. Where it is stable and great work people should never look for a bug free OS

Because Nexus devices are devices that are made by Google's standards and android is developed for this devices by Google themselves. Then with the android source code (AOSP) manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, Sony etc etc. are free to make their own rom for it, this is why it will always follow later, especially 'cause they have to make sure it is completely bugfree. Next to the big manufacturers we have ofcourse developers like CyanogenMod team and other good developers (i.e. from XDA!) who provide us from great roms too, and some even better than the stock samsung roms.

"Crap" is relative. One could call CM10.x crap for the Note 2, as it doesn't have the S-Pen features, leaving the device rather crippled compared to TW.

No, TW compared to CM actually is crap. CM S Pen Add-on, Note Buddy and Papyrus and S Pen features (incl. Pulling in or out detection) work perfectly.
definitely by the time samsung releases official 4.3 there will be 4 to 5 more threads on the same topic for sure
By the time Sammy is almost ready to release 4.3, Key Lime Pie 5.0 will be out and they will then decide to skip 4.3 for Note II and go directly to 5.0.
I am having issues building cm.
I just know how to initiate a build , I don't know how to fix because I don't know any programming language.

[Q]2nd-Gen Nexus 7 Question..

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,
Question: I'm strongly leaning towards picking up this 2nd-Gen Nexus 7 next week.. ( I have never owned the 1st-Gen ) and I know the 2nd-Gen is shipping with Android 4.3.. Since this is still Asus with upgraded internals, Will these 4.2.2 ROMS run on the 2nd-Gen? I know it's only a matter of time before 4.3 is ripped apart and reborn as Custom ROMS but I was curious if anyone thinks 4.2.2 would boot..
Thanks for any answers anyone can provide.. :good:
If these said ROMs were ported then maybe. Although I doubt it because 4.3 is better in pretty much every way so what's the point. 4.2.2 software made for the Tegra Nexus 7 won't boot on the newer architecture in the 2nd gen model (Snapdragon S4 CPU).

I think not. Wait for custom roms for the 7² to appear, which they will pretty soon I guess.
But you should definitely go for the new N7, it looks so much sweeter than the 1st gen...
direct ROM flashes Wont work, but if someone ported it over, I dont see why not. but that would probably take just as much time as it would to merge the features to 4.3 so no one will do it.

...Not as minor as 4.2 -> 4.3. UI drastically changed (not just the launcher) and they decided to make a universally available Launcher called Google Experience, so you see Google is determined to make KitKat a large step forward.
But yeah, based on this point (universal, unified experience) and Google's saying of "making the best experience for everyone", I can say that we're going to get KitKat in one way or another (I don't personally care if Google decides no official release, AOSP is always there). Plus, who said we need 3.4 or even 3.8 kernels to run it (any RELIABLE sources)? Many older devices run JB 4.1 and even 4.2 nicely with 2.6.xx kernels. Many 3.4, 3.8 and even 3.1x features are being backported too.

Look i don't know about Linux Kernel, etc..
But i just saw that the 3.8 is officially discontinued.
3.4 is continued until October 2014.
So i think the next Kernel version for Android will be the 3.10 (long term: until September 2015) not 3.8.
By the way....a Nexus 5 with 3.10 kernel would be pretty nice. But it seem it will be 3.4.
Source
I remember when 3.0 was released (after the 2.6.39), Linus Torvalds said exactly this:
"So what are the big changes? NOTHING. Absolutely nothing. Sure, we have the usual two thirds driver
changes, and a lot of random fixes, but the point is that 3.0 is
*just* about renumbering, we are very much *not* doing a KDE-4 or a
Gnome-3 here. No breakage, no special scary new features, nothing at
all like that. We've been doing time-based releases for many years
now, this is in no way about features. If you want an excuse for the
renumbering, you really should look at the time-based one ("20 years")
instead."
I post that, only to say that sometimes numbers mean nothing..3.4 is a stable kernel, there isn't a big difference that you can see in the daily use with 3.10..really
Lets pray, for kitkat on our phone..!!!

Since the Nexus 5 is using the same chipset as the Note 3, getting some things going won't be as difficult. I'd give it 2 months before we see a "stable" enough build. I personally don't considering AOSP builds 100% stable as there seems to be bugs with them, IF it's running on a NON-Nexus device... Just a personal feeling on it though...
But those who do want AOSP, it won't take as long as some may think. Note 3 is the only device that's really really new still, G2's been out a little bit, if I'm not mistaken. But like I said, Nexus 5 uses S 800, like the Note 3. It'll come sooner than some may think....
Follwo their gerrit here to see the latest changes.... http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/q/statuspen,n,z
