What's the point of resetting the flash counter when the KNOX e-fuse, by definition, will also be tripped, and can't be reset? None that I can see.

You are right but the fact that chain fire got flash to reset means he still working on it. With the official 4.4.2 coming out he might be able to do Knox reset. Not that it matter cause we will still root.

But isn't knox motherboard related? The e-fuse

Samsung Engineer stated outright that it was a hardware efuse and once blown, that's that. If I were you, I wouldn't hold out hope....

I know what he said but he also works for them. I think someone will find a way to bypass the efuse

And multiple people who had their phones serviced got them back from Samsung Service with the KNOX flag set to 0x0. It's software. It's just very clever software that Samsung won't tell us how it works.

Lol, that just means they got back a refurb that was never tripped in the first place.

Sorry but they can reset the counter, I sent my phone in for repair of bad SD card, knox was tripped and it came back reset, same phone, same serial number and shell.

No but doing microsurgery to repair an efuse isn't plausible. The only two choices would be a totally different refurb being sent back or a replaced motherboard if knox wasn't tripped. If the data and serial was all the same (which I honestly have a hard time believing) then that means Samsung had started using data cloning. But that's just far fetched because there's no reason to clone the serial and the data is usually junked and the customer knows this if the device is sent for repair and the repair requires replacement of core components. But anyway, that's just an educated guess. Agree or disagree, it's all good.

Samsung also said that the kit kat update did not break 3rd party accessory compatibility (namely sview) but it did, and they knew it, and they got caught in the lie and are pushing a fix to make 3rd party stuff work again... sooooooo... could be the same with the efuse. then again, maybe not, but who knows.

Uhh... they whole point we're making is that it's NOT an eFuse and that Samsung has a way to reset it. They contradict themselves all the time in their public statements (one department doesn't know what another is doing - completely common in huge corporations, I know, I work for one), so I'm pretty sure they were wrong on that too. Just because Chainfire or others couldn't find a way to reset it themselves doesn't mean a way doesn't exist - we just don't know it.

Look guys, think from an engineering stand point off view. I am a electrical engineer. If I was on samsung enginerring team I would not make knox a efuse when blown you would need to replace a whole mother board or something for a small thing. Samsung knows knox is not for everyone. Therefore I am sure knox thing is resettable and for now samsung only knows how to reset it.

Samsung KNOX will be on the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition
As this is security software will this prevent this device from being able to be rooted??
Here is a short video interview talking about Knox...... See what you think about the new software. Pay attention to the part that talks about only apps purchased or obtained from Samsung will work in the Knox environment.

The guy who sold me the Note 3 was into custom ROMs. When I mentioned Knox efuse and trade in with Jump he said no one there would even know what to look for at trade in and that flashing should be fine. He said the same thing about warranty returns. The insurance company would just take back the device.
But...he did mention that trade ins with Jump would end up as refurb devices. So its possible that there might be someone along the repair service chain knows whats what.
I traded my note 2 in today, running tweaked rom and custom recovery. Still got $275 for it. A lot of the phones get wiped and reflashed without even being checked to see if they were tampered with

I don't think the eFuse matters unless you're getting it warranty repaired by Samsung and even then, they may not bother to check if there's no custom ROM running. Most people don't know about it or even care. I sent a Droid4 to Moto for warranty repair and there is something similar (it may or may not be the same) that gets flipped when it's rooted. They didn't care and repaired the defect.
Just found this thread Googling for the same thing. I was told by the guy at the T-Mobile I went to that they don't care at the store when trading it in, but he's not sure what would happen when it got to wherever they send it and see it tripped.
Basically what happens is if it is tripped your rights to the extended warranty are revoked going forward. You won't be able to add the extended warranty or jump for 12 months plus you pay out of warranty fee.

Progress on the Knox Flag?

right now, is there any way to install a custom rom, recovery or kernel without tripping the knox flag? if not, then wats the progress by the devs to disable the knox flag?
Was just wondering about this myself.
If there were, you wouldn't have to look for the news.

Nobody even knows if the KNOX flag CAN be reset. If they're using a small bit of WORM (WriteOnceReadMany) flash, then it's impossible; if not, then there's a chance, even if requires cracking open the phone.

It is supposed to indicate if the device is not secure to be used by Knox. It should have no effect on anything else related to the device. If you had a Knox container setup and it is tripped, then the container is flushed and the info is no longer accessible. And you cannot create a new Knox container if the flag is tripped.
Some say they have been unable to get warranty repair if it was void, but every time I have followed up on that, I've not been able to actually hard verify that. Not saying it doesn't happen, but most sources I've seen say they simply don't look for it. Just for physical damage and if the wet detection label has been triggered.
We rooted and voided our warranty. We all way past any type of high horse standards

I just wanna set the record straight! (warrenty u.s.)

Ok i know if my Knox counter changes to anything higher than 0x0 it gets voided right... Ok cool but voided/rejected by who? Samsung? Or tmobile's warrenty exchange? Because from what i read everyones talking this repair this n that "i sent out for repair.." Ok but im not sending anything for repair its a WARRENTY EXCHANGE due to usb port problems... Does it get voided by tmobile? Please and thank you
Btw: i search all throught the forums and threads of knox for this and havent found anyone talking about the "WARRANTY EXCHANGE" like i said before ive read about ppl getting their device sent to repair rejected... But what about when they send u the front piece (no battery no back plated **refurbished**) and u send it back in a white box... Thats what i dont see anyone talking about...
Once again thanks in advance i just wanted to get that straightened out...

We are not positive if KNOX is used for warranty purposes. Warranty exchange can be done in person at a Tmobile store or having it shipped out. It is best to go to a store and try and get it replaced. A lot of the clerks are clueless about warranty and you shouldn't have any problems with an exchange.

I never do the exchange thru a T-mobile store. I asked once about it to one of the reps at the store and they said i have to call (mytouch days lol) so ever since then I've always used the one year warrenty with Tmobile.. I haven't exchanged any with the knox counter triggered, But I can tell you this much, a T-mobile rep is more concerned about water damage than anything else. that's why the 1st thing they do is to take ur battery out and check little white sticker it turns red/pinkish when exposed to water.
other than that u shouldn't have a problem, just odin back full stock and and take it back .. I would try it but I just replaced my old S4 a couple days ago and its working fine.
just go in there like a boss and demand an exchange... LOL JK

Just got my replacement phone and....

It unfortunatly came with knox... now what if i dont care to trip knox... will having knox effect the way i glash roms... or can i even flash roms? [Ive searched everywhere for my answer and all i get is mixed answers...] some say i cant flash with knox... others are talking in threads like they tripped knox and flashing roms... HELP PLEASE... thanks in advanceee!
btw from all the reading i ha e done it seems that a "Tripped knox counter" only affects the ppl sending it thru repair and not warrenty... please if someone can shed light on this... again... thanks in advance!

Your warrenty (The phone no longer powers on, send me a new one) is voided by tripping Knox.
Your insurance (The $9 a month you may or may not pay for damage or loss) is not voided.

Let me rephrase that...
Tripping knox is SUPPOSED to void your warrenty. Many people are finding that Samsung/T Mobile aren't properly checking the Knox status with a warrenty claim and are honoring the warrenties anyway. But it's not a guarentee.

T Mobile is going to care once Samsung stops saying Knox tripped phones back from T Mobile. Remember, it's not T Mobile that is repairing the borken devices are reselling them as refurbished. Samsung is still doing that. T Mobile just asks as a middle man in that process. The warrenty is still Samsung's. And when Samsung tells T Mobile they won't accept any more knox tripped phones, T Mobile is going to start checking more closely.
That said, the warrenty is still invalid per the user agreement with Knox tripped. T Mobile could decide tomorrow or 6 months from now to start checking. If they do they are well within the law to deny a warrenty claim on a knox tripped phone. Just because they are ignoring it now doesn't mean they have to.

You're very welcome! If I were you though, I would wait and see that it is a confirmed "working" method. So many variables involved, like KNOX, better to be safe than sorry.
I have a friend that manages tmobile. He said that mobile CANNOT refuse an issured costumer. Because there is signed documents before Knox was even in the picture... If someone tries to refuse it. Tell them to show you some type of paper work that you have signed that says so. Or ask them to pull up your original. Contract/ or the insurance rules from day one.
