Car Mount - ONE Accessories

I'm moving from my Nexus 5 and magnetic wireless car mount , how are people mounting these in the car? Biggest thing i'm going to miss with the N5..... I've always had a magnetic mount in the past. Maybe I go back to the Tetrax Xway I have if I can figure out how to get it mounted, just hate sticking anything to the back of my phone...

I used a Mountek nGroove before discovering the Nite Ize Steelie magnetic mount. The nGroove worked well. I'm not sure whether or not the One will fit being as big as it is. I'll try and dig mine out of storage and test the fit when I get the phone this week.
nGroove - amazon MT5000-E. I notice they have a "snap" style now. I'll have to check it out. I love the Steelie but not sure if I want a magnetic on the back of the One. It worked great on the Moto X though. I might just get two cases. One for the magnet and one for regular carry.

bought two of the nGroove, just did not work for my wife's crv or my gli, fell out too often.

The cheapest suction car mount from Ebay works great with my OPO!
Cheap and effective!

I'd get a techmatte progrip dashboard mount. That's what i've been using

I actually popped off the battery cover on my OPO & placed a metal plate that comes with the Mountek magnetic dock under the cover. Fits perfectly & the OPO sticks far better than the Nexus 5 ever did.

I saw a magnetic mount at the store. I like the idea.
Do these magnetic gadgets interfere with NFC, bluetooth of anything else on the phone?

I have the Mountek CD slot magnetic mount and love it! I popped off the swapstyle cover and put the metal plate on the battery and put the cover back on. It works PERFECT. It is next to impossible to tell that the plate is in there, it all just came together perfectly. I hate running around with cases for my phones and was so happy this worked for me.
NFC will not work while on the mount, magnet interferes, but outside of that it works fine for me.

I also had a Nexus 5 and put one of those adhesives inside the OPO
Works amazing since the magnet has huge strength

I'm using the Xenomix SHG-S5000 Smart phone Mobile Mount Holder for Car CD Slot bought from ebay. I was using that for my small galaxy s and now for Oneplus. I'm very satisfied even though I should be carefull when I place the Oneplus on it as it is the biggest phone that this holder can hold...

I use the new Belkin one (a copy of Kenu Airframe+).
It works in my ford focus (4th gen, post 2014) but honestly, stick to the original one (the Kenu Airframe+) which is more convenient.
And it depends on your car too.

I'm using Brodit mounts since my Nokia N900.
This passive one for OPO: http://www.brodit.com/product.html?id=511648&pn=prod&brand=OnePlus&model=One (They also have active ones with USB built in) and then a Proclip which fits your car (this one in my case http://www.brodit.com/product.html?id=854890&pn=prod&brand=Seat&model=Leon&year=2015). If you change your phone or car you only have to change half of the mount.

question about compatibility with my car
I have a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and I am concerned the mountec groove snap 3 would block the view of my cars touchscreen. Here is a pic of the dashboard where the cd slot is, sitting immediately below the touch screen.

How would this work with the mountec mount? Or from the dash layout can you see what other options might work in this situation?

I have the mountec snap 3 and all depend how you put it. Basically, if you put the tightening bolt down the phone will definitely be below the touchscreen. The only problem will be that the buttons will be block a little, but most of those functions can be accessed from the buttons in the steering wheel. I hope this info help.

I got the mount. Doesn't fit very well in CD slot. Comes out easily. Working on other ideas now

I dont really care for for the car mounts that require a suction cup. I prefer a vent mount or something like that.

Best Car Mount?

I am looking to spend anywhere from 15 to 40$ on a good car mount, preferably a windshield suction cup mount. I found this one from an add while making this thread rofl:
http://www.extremepda.com/HTCEVO-SM420.html
Anyone ever tried this? or does anyone have a good recommendation on a good car mount to buy?
I LOVE android GPS navigation, its just a pain holding the phone and driving.
Thanks,
Daugusta
I use this Arkon windshield suction mount instead of the gooseneck one you linked to:
http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Windshield-Mount-Universal-Smartphone/dp/B000N7DUJS/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1283530641&sr=8-13

This one is solid. I can't say for sure, but I'm guessing the one I have is less prone to bouncing around while the car is moving, compared to the gooseneck version you linked to. The only advantage of the gooseneck could be that it is longer - but again that would, at the same time, likely be a bad thing if it bounces around more while the car is moving.
Deal Extreme has one for $5.50 with free shipping. I like it a lot. It's made for the Evo and is a really snug fit. Battery door has snagged a few times, but it doesn't pop off, just takes extra effort to remove when that happens.

I want to get ProClip's EVO 4G dock:
http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de...t)/holder-with-tilt-swivel--511176-18252.aspx
http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de...-cigarette-lighter-adapter--512176-18252.aspx
http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de...ord-for-fixed-installation--513176-18252.aspx
But now that Sprint/HTC has their customized one, now I'm not too sure. My car (Mini Cooper) doesn't have anything flat to suction Sprint/HTC's holder (except for the windshield), but ProClip has a mount that can fit a few places that the suction can't and vice-versa. The suction one has a nice cable/power management.
Adding Scosche (http://www.cellularaccessory.com/btaxs.html) wireless bluetooth audio connector to my car's AUX line would be the wiring icing on the cake.
I got the Pro Clip with the adjustable holder. I actually really, really like it. The fit in my f150 is perfect, and it sits in place that is perfect. Its sturdier than any vent/suction mount ive ever used before, and it looks really nice.
Plus, with it being the adjustable holder, it works with my case on. Not only that, if I ever get a different case, I know it will work with whatever case I ever get. This is a nice little feature. Id say if youre looking for something not suction cup, look into the pro clip options.
I will say that if youre looking for something with a charging option maybe the pro clip isnt for you, however take into account where your cigarette lighter/power thingamabob is. In my truck its almost directly beneath where the mount sits, so running a charger up to it when needed isnt an issue, and isnt an eyesore.
Beware of this: http://shop.brando.com/htc-evo-4g-windshield-holder_p04741c0309d060.html
I bought one, left it in my car on the windshield for one day (wasn't even too hot) and the plastic is all warped around the suction cup and it refuses to stick to the windshield, and also scraped up the side of my EVO (the clips are too firm, and crush the phone).
Guess it's a good thing it broke, and was only $15 with shipping.
Tertrax XWAY. Pure awesome.

The GPS no, the compass yes.
Well there goes that option... I was going to put the magnet on the back of my case... I wonder if it would make a difference? With actually allowing the compass to work. I have one of the newer hybrid cases.
No need to make it complicated, nor expensive. The wave of mounts is flooding eBay, for as little as five bucks. This holder fits the (naked) Evo perfectly, is sold with vent, suction cup, or flex-arm mounts, and the holder itself has slots that will accomodate hundreds of the other universal mounts, like the ones you probably already have three of.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-Windshield-...866620?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4aa486a1fc
And, unlike the seventy (!) dollar HTC mount, this one didn't forget the phone has a big ol' camera lens on the back of it.
If you have a case that's too much bother to do the in-and-out with, look at the GPS mounts that clamp.

Got that and the popular motorola micro-usb charger both on amazon. The total was $21. I love that it's quick to put the phone in and release. Plus it's not a snap-in type system so there's no wear and tear on the phone. The soft foam sides and bottom are a plus too. Only thing is the vent mount is pretty flimsy but it probably depends on the vents of the car. For me it was just hanging there and I knew on bumps it'll fly up and down.

the BEST universal car mount out there

i didn't see this posted anywhere, but it is hands down the best car mount out there...unless you use CDs for music
http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-MT500..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1296490219&sr=1-1
im sure the first question would be whether it trips the autoload or not, which it does not, it isn't nearly long enough in probably 99.9% of car cd players
the thing is tight and doesn't wobble at all but can easily be removed if need be, oh and the bottom plate can be removed, so its just the two gripper thingies
its also at the perfect eye level (for me anyway: mitsubishi lancer), and doesnt obscure the view of the road at all.
Personally I use the Clingo vent mount and I think that its the BEST car mount ever! All you see is the phone not some bulky grips on the sides. These things work! Just my two cents! www.clingo.com
unfortunately due to the placement of my vents and the view obstruction (annoyance) of windshield ones, conventional mount locations are out of the question...ive seen that clingo before, and i agree it is a nice solution as well
I just bought a clingo right after I read this thread. And its awesome. Check out the youtube videos. The vibrant really sticks on harder than your crazy ex gf lol or a dog

Mine is not a universal mount but one just for the vibrant. I have a huge extended battery on my vibrant. Since there was nothing available, I made a custom holster out of kydex that fits it like a glove, access to all buttons, speaker and camera lens (for times i want to film my bicyling). Impossible for it to pop out. You physically have to unclip it out of the holster to release it. I made it with a 1/4" thread on the back so I can use it anywhere you would mount a camera. I made a stand just for it in and my bluetooth keyboard in my van. It can adjust from vertical to horizontal very easily. When i go biking, the holster attaches to the handlebar mount I made. It will also fit any camera tripod.
i bought this hoping to use it as a camera mount for track days with my car.

it was too shaky for my camera but if you just needed a mount for GPS or some other use, this worked very well with my phone in a TPU case. i found it for $12 on amazon
I purchased an Arkon megagrip for mine and was so pleased I ended up getting 2 more... 1 for my wife and 1 to use at work. It may have bulky pads on the side to hold it, but I know it will never let go unless I hit the release button. Perfect function and easy access to everything. Vent mounted in my car, dash mounted at work.

Same sentiment here. The mount feels solid there is no wobble when im using it and it holds the Vibrant beautifully. Thank you for a solid find.
That looks interesting, but I'm thinking you'd be SOL with that bad boy and a headunit like mine.

no sir, you can keep whatever CD is in
I bought a Soundgate M2 mount from Amazon. Small footprint, solid and no wobble.
You do have to attach a tape on the back of the case to mount it so might not be for everyone.
You can do a search on youtube for sample installs.

Mine showed up in the mail today. Simply a great mount, Thanks for the tip!
today i bought a universal mount from rocketfish. the bicycle and car mount. i think i'm going to like this thing. the arm itself looks like what turbosix has, but it has the mount itself like what most universals have with the padded sides and the legs at the bottom.
what i really like about this is that i do NOT have to take off my silicone cover when i put the phone in a landscape position. it barely fits the device when it is extended all the way. and i can have it oriented so that i can take pictures with it when i want.
I just got the offiical Samsung Vehicle Navigation Mount Car Kit
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Vehic...QL1FII&s=merchant-items&qid=1298670628&sr=1-1
Cost was $34.11 after activating the 10% special offer code listed on the Amazon link above. While I was concerned about comments that the audio out did not work... it works PERFECTLY on my Vibrant running Froyo 2.2 You have to read the short instructions, OK so some of us don't like to "read" and "follow" written instructions, which tells you to download the Samsung Car/Home app... make sure you get the newest version of the app which supports Froyo... and when you run the app you have to touch the speaker icon to disable the internal speaker which then enables the audio output from the headphone jack on the Car cradle... a little confusing at first BUT it is a great mount AND the app works fine also... highly recomended!
Did a video of the mount in case anyone else is still doubting this mount.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBuGj5-sQl8
The mount is simply amazing. It's all you need.

I have the same Rocketfish mount and it's pretty impressive. I use this bodyglove case and I don't have any problems putting it in the mount. The suction cup has NEVER come loose from my windshield - winter or summer - and the phone sits solid. Plus I like the ease of switching the mount from landscape to horizontal.
But after watching the Clingo video, I'm already considering buying one.
Damn. I want one and they are all out everywhere

Car Mount

Considering the Incredible's Car Mount wasn't great... any ideas on good car mounts for the Thunderbolt? I figure there should be plenty of options out there because it has the same form factor/size as the Desire HD and Evo.
I'm looking for something easy... maybe two magnets, attach one to the back piece of a two-piece case and use it to attach it to a magnet stuck onto your car's dashboard? Anyone have a setup like this currently?

I'd love for some kind of car mount that would allow shooting of video while driving. either a suction cup to the windshield with a hole (or self dremel job hole like people did for the D1) or something that can attach to the rear view mirror.

If motorola didn't happen to patent their magnet method that they used on their droid models, I would assume it would be a similar, if not the same method...
I think the magnet is standard, my htc eris, and fascinate worked by magnents
A general observation, here - if you want a bodaciously well built mount, look at Ram-mount . I have one in my Civic with two heads I can swap - 1 for iPad, one universal cell/pda.
Not cheap, in construction OR price...
Proclipusa.com...
I like and will keep the HTC Car dock. It suits my needs and is car to car transferrable.

I had no idea the Eris or Fascinate had magnetic switches or any way of knowing they were docked automatically.
I know the HTC Incredible has no magnetic switching or anyway of knowing its docked, basically there isn't an automatic dock mode on the Incredible at all.

No,, it seemed to dock fine. Make sure you snap it behind the top overlap piece. I was very pleased that it did not cover the camera and the it has the usb mount. Charging the OG Droid while in the dock was a real pain. I shot some video with it docked this AM and it performed fine. The road was not real smooth so it picked up the bumps, but it beats me trying to hold it.
I can second and third the HTC dock is awesome. I'm coming from an original, then v2 droid dock.
There are a couple of things though.
1. You really have to jam the phone on the right side(by the usb) in the dock to get car dock to come up. Its super tight. You'll actually hear a click once you get it in far enough.
2. You can't get back into car mode if you exit out without redocking.
3. You can't dock the phone if you have any cases and such.
4. I can't seem to change any of the icon choices they give you. I'd much prefer a more "stock" car/home experience. There are a couple other minor annoyances I have with the "dock" program they use in general but it does work well.
Verizon has a car mount just like the OG Droid, it automatically turns the phone into a navigation, it only cost 30, I saw it yesterday, it has the magnets.
I might like a car dock if it fit my phone with the innocase on it.

Review of iOttie Easy One Touch car mount holder w/lots of pics!!!

This is a review of iOttie Easy One Touch car mount holder for Note 2: http://www.iottie.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=1008&ProductType=321
When a company puts "easy one touch" in their product description, you know they mean business I went through a number of different car mounts in the last few months and this is the first one which allows a very easy one hand operation. I don't look for fancy car mounts with power cradles or already attached cables limiting my setup. I need flexibility of universal grip mount where I can manage where and how I attach my micro-usb power cable without a need of taking a case off my phone to fit into the holder. There is a few other car mounts available in this category, but what I found is that nobody delivered it to perfection like iOttie car mount.
Starting with suction pad, you get a very strong gel base adhesive material and the pad itself made out of thick and durable silicone. The suction cup is actually labeled as "super suction cup", and trust me - it will stick to anything like a cement glue. But at the same time, with some force it will be easy to remove, doesn't leave any residue, and after rinsing under the water it's like brand new. There were no issues sticking to a textured dashboard in my car. As a matter of fact, this is the only mount I was able to stick to a vertical textured area above glove box door in my car - totally insane!!! And just to prove that it can stick to any surface and be removed without damaging it, I also used it at home in a kitchen mounted to the top and upside down, as well as vertically mounted to my painted wall and the door. In every case it stuck dead on, and after removing (did require some force) it came off clean without leaving any residue or damaging the surface. Something to think about if you are planning to use it in the house as well. Arm connecting the mounting base to the actual holder has multiple adjustment knobs for different angles and full 360 degree rotation. All the knobs are easily accessible and very comfortable to adjust with fingers and doesn't require any additional tools. My only comment is that I wish it would have a universal ball joint connection as an option to be compatible with other mounts, although I'm not sure if its even necessary considering how capable this mount already is.
Now to the holder itself. It's as simple as it can get, yet brilliantly executed to work with one hand. You just push on two side bars to open both extendable arms which pops up a trigger button in the middle, and place your phone inside which pushes on the trigger button to securely lock the arms. That's all! Both arms and a trigger button have soft lining, no worries about scratching your phone or the case. And also you have an adjustable extension shelf for an additional support to find a better position for your phone placement relative to holder where side arms doesn't interfere with power/volume buttons. Everything is made out of durable plastic material. Also, I have to mention that both the packaging box and iOttie website have a very detailed installation/operation instructions.
This mount does exactly what it says - it's easy and it's one touch. Also it's a bargain for under $20 on Amazon, where it's actually #1 selling car mount.
Here are the pictures taken both at home and in the car. I still get a kick out of the one mounted vertically above my glove compartment

I enjoy the iOttie as well for my car dock needs. The only knock on it, and it's more for selected people, you can only use it with the OEM/slim battery and a slim case, such as yours or TPU case. It's not Defender friendly.
The only dock I think may compete with it is the Clingo you see on TV. But that dock may not work well with cases that are silicon based such as TPUs. But the Clingo Neklit works pretty well with my Cruzerlite TPU case.
does it come with any audio/power cableing, or is it just a mount?
thanks!
I can attest to the strength of the suction cup. It's the most insane one I've ever seen. Even when you don't pull down the locking tab, the suction cup holds so securely I had to literally peel it off the glass on the windshield. I've mounted it on the dash as well and if I pulled hard enough I think I would've cracked the dashboard.
The mount is great and there is only one thing I don't like about it, the locking screw for the actual phone clamp part is very sensitive. If you do not tighten it enough, it will slip and the phone will turn, but if you tighten it only a tad more, it won't move at all for adjustments. There is little margin for flexibility in the mount tightening.
Other than that it's great for the Note2.

Just a mount, I pictured whatever is included in the box. These are typically universal mounts, leaving flexibility to connect whatever else you want afterwards.

I don't recall any cables being included. Really 2.0A car charges are cheap, and you got a USB cable with the phone or you can pick one up one the cheap as well. The charger is open enough that you can use pretty much what you like to attach USB or 3.5mm wise.
Just ordered this as well. I liked the fact that suction can stick virtually anywhere. I'm tired of just putting my phone in my cup holder, even though I don't use my navigation too much I think I might now lol.

Do you know of a good car mount that will work with the Otterbox Defender case?

It comes with one! Well, after a little modification....
Anyone out there who's had this for more than a few weeks care to comment on durability? I'm seeing some reviews on Amazon saying that the joints get weak very quickly and start to sag; any truth to that?
I've been using this mount for a couple months and it is excellent. The suction cup is the strongest I've ever seen.

Ok I had this ordered back in Jan. But after I got back from CES show in Vegas. I got my hands on the mount I posted above!!:thumbup:
But I will say I did try it b4 it got returned to Amazon 1 week. #1 strong suction hand down! #2 Will stick anywhere, because the back is made of the same material as the lil sticky pads we use to, use on the dash! #3 Went from one case too another, it stopped working as it was. Because the new case was a lil thicker! So it kept popping out, cuz of the small handles on the sides! :banghead:
# durability is so so. It'll hold up for sometime for you?? Pending on use!

Yes it it strong but, but when it wares out after moving it so much it'll just b like a regular suction. They say rinse it off, but I've had that type of material b4! Fyi
Side note: please PLEASE, keep in mind if you leave it on your dash it WILL leave a permanent circle if used for a long extended period. The week I had it on the dash the circle is still there!!!:banghead::banghead: I'll post a pic 2morw!

I've had mine since December. I haven't noticed it sagging any more or worse than the other car docks. All of mine eventually loose grip in the ball joint. So, from the get go, I have it where the phone sits on the dash.
I haven't noticed the ring, but mine has been on the dash for months. I use it almost everyday.
There are many car mounts I have used, compared vent mount, dashboard mount and windshield mount, I prefer dashboard mount. The 360 degree design adjust my phone or other device until can clearly fit the screen, aLLreLi car mount is I'm using now. It's useful and flexible.

Nexus 5 Car Mount Thread

How do you mount nexus 5 in your car. Post!
I'm using this: a 2 in one mount. It's an aged mount for my old s3, but it also fits new nexus 5 perfectly.
I have used this a number of times now. It holds the phone very solid.

I love my Tetrax FIX. I don't have my Nexus 5 yet (arriving tomorrow), but my wife and I both have Tetrax FIX's in each of our cars, as well as the attachments on our two current phones (HTC Evo 4G LTE & Samsung Galaxy S3). I'm assuming the Nexus 5 will still work with the Tetrax, as it is designed to be minimal and universal.
I usually wait for ProClip to come out with a new phone holder.

+1 for proclip. I am using the iPhone proclip holder and holds the nexus decent.

Problem with these magnet solutions is that they interfere with wireless charging. :crying:

Oh crap, I didn't even think about that! Thanks for pointing that out bleuiko. I've been planning to use both the magnet car dock and the wireless charging, but now I'm going to have to make a decision between the two...
Pro clip. Just waiting on the to make the Nexus 5 dock.
Here's my N4 rig which is not surprisingly also my N5 rig. In my 2006 Mazda 6. Simply blocked the middle vent with a round plastic disc and attached the clip with it's suction cup.

I have been using Tetrax for years on my iphone and my s4. I use an x-way version so i can landscape the phone easier. main issue issue get getting the dam metal dots to stick to the cases It generally boils down to a good chunk of crazy glue. Main issue is i plan to use wireless charging with it and i don't think having a steel disk glues to back of phone/case most likely will impair that. I was looking at buying an I-bolt.
proclip for sure. that's the only mount that will ever go in my car
*EDIT*
turns out it fits in my Nexus 4 proclip mount... but Google/LG decided to flip the micro USB port so i can't use the same hardwired charging cable (it's a right angle plug) without cutting it open, which i'd rather not do... but it fits, just no charging :-/
Just an fyi, according to the proclip facebook page, a person asked if they would get one for the N5 and they said they had picked up two devices and should have a mount ready in 4-6 weeks. They said updates on the nexus 5 proclip would be available via the facebook page.
I've just received one of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007Y94CPO/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The quality is great, and because it's universal i won't need to buy a new mount for every new phone in future! The arms are spring loaded and released by a button on the back. Put the phone in, squeeze the arms together and it holds the phone perfectly. There's also a really nice rubber padding on every part that's in contact with the phone.
Most of the Amazon reviews are really positive too. I can't see there being any issues with it even after years of use. It really is a solid product! :good:
I believe the most convenient solution would be to use a Qi car dock: no connection needed and accommodate most cases. I looked around a little but but haven't found many options that look like they wont break down in a year
There is This one
That one (more expensive)
And This incredibly expensive LG official solution. (it got me thinking about making my own...
Any thoughts ? I really don't want to connect and dusconnect usb cables all the time ...
I bought this a while back for my GS4.
Works really well even with my ringke slim on the GS4.
To my surprise, it works with the N5 and without adding the thin metal plate as the N5 has the steel discs already built into it. It's not super strong like using the thin metal plate, but it holds fine.
The material on the mount (on top of the magnets) is also like that of the back of the N5 so it does rotate fairly easily once mounted so maybe in a landscape view, if not centered, it would move some on a bumpy road.

FYI the N5 is polarized differently than the N4. I realized this today driving to work in the SNOW. I can't see the screen at all when the phone is in landscape mode and I'm wearing polarized sunglassses. I don't particularly like portrait in the car, but my tasker/rotate workaround which isn't perfect (for google's RIDICULOUS decision to rip car mode out of android) coupled with the polarization issue will force my hand.
This clip rotates easily, thankfully. I know for many of you charging in the car dock is a must. For me I've learned to live without it.
i use the brodit proclip from my nexus 4 fits perfect
I absolutely love my Kenu Airframe so far. I'll have to see how it works in the winter with hot air from the vent blowing on my Nexus 5.
