[Q] Wifi Direct - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone here having problem with their wifi direct? Im using my gnote pro 12.2 to send documents and files over my g3 but it wont let me receive the files. My gnote will always have this sending failed error message and when i check what causes it to fail, i have this lg g3 file sharing not available message.
Laptop and computers are inaccessible atm, im doing a field job. Im trying to send huge files so bluetooth is not an option. My gnote doesn't have a problem sending files to other devices, i just finished transfering files to my coworkers so im sure it is my phone whose at fault.
Any help will be much appreciated. TIA.
1st Edit: Found out that i don't even have the option to send files through wifi direct even wifi direct on my g3 is turned on and connected to a device.
2nd Edit: Manage to transfer the file using google play application "Super Beam" , have to install it to both devices and should be connected to a wifi router to use wifi direct. Bit dissapointed coz its not working out of the box. Direct wifi doesnt need to have router to work.

Anyone here got the issue? Or their wifi direct is working properly? I just want to know and will help alot if will also tell what version/firmware they are using. Might try to flash other firmware to check if it will solve my concern.
Its kinda frustrsting to go outside and look for a wifi just to be able to transfer large files. Im currently using superbeam as an immediate solution.

really this is a very bad active from LG .there is no reason to remove this super important option from this super phone

I agree. I need this thing to work, it is actually frustrating me. Might be solve with just firmware update, i will also try to go back to my old firmware which is v10a, we'll see if that will solve it (ill just borrow laptop somewhere). I also try contacting lg cust service but was amazed that they don't have the handset Support department till sunday... what a bummer..
Im working in a site right now where everything have its time off. No wifi no chance to use super beam.

Contacted lg cust service again and was dissapointed. They intentionally remove wifi direct functionality to give way to their "SmartShare Beam" WHICH IS ONLY exclusive to LG devices. No chance to transfer files through wifi direct to other brand handset without using working router. Android devices now following apple's exclusiveness to their devices.
The only solution is to use SuperBeam from google market
Or to use DLNA features though can only transfer media files.

i found an altranative application that could be usefull to share files between lg g3 and other mobiles . but it should be installed at both devices ..
the app name Wi-Fi File Sender

[Q] Android and WiFi with redirects

Posted this in another forum, but you all are the experts. Impossible for me to access my work WiFi because of redirects (splash screen to accept use parameters).
Wondering if a custom ROM fixes it or if there is another solution.
Having an issue connecting to WiFi with Evo updated via official release of 2.2. I couldn't access it via 2.1 either. It's an odd network designation.
However, the iPhone can connect once I okay the error message.
Is there a work around that you may know about? Web search basically told me that the protocol is old and useless and that it should be changed. That is not possible.
Network designation is 1.1.1.1. I was unable to add links clarifying this because I am a new user.
Well Android can not connect to 1.1.1.1 addresses / networks / redirects. However the iPhone can. Is it inherent to the Android, or is there an app or tweak to get it to work.
This message ends by saying it will be fixed with Froyo.
Still can't post links to show what I mean.
Steamliver I just did a Google search for "Android 1.1.1.1" and this was the top result: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1597
I'm guessing this is the problem you are describing. Sounds frustrating and it has been going on for a long time. The newest post at the time I'm writing this recommends installing the Fennec browser (Firefox for Android, basically) and that worked for the poster.
If you have a laptop you could bring to work and tether via USB, I wonder if that would work? Just a temporary work around to use the phone to establish the wifi connection, then view the browser redirect on the laptop, accept, and then maybe you would be good to go?
Also, the simplest thing might be to call the IT department and ask them for help. Given Android's growing market share, one of them probably already have an Android phone and a fix for this problem. Good luck.
I have tried firefox and that did not solve the problem, does anyone have another ideas how to solve this.
It seems that 1.1.1.1 is locked in the android.

Android File Transfer finally working again Tmobile Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean iMac

This has been plaguing me for way too long! I couldn't get my S3 to connect with my Mac. I thought the first ICS update did something to keep ATF from reading my phone. I finally found a solution for getting Android File Transfer to work on my iMac with my Galaxy S3 even after the Jelly Bean update and on a custom ROM. I'm currently running Wicked JBv1, but I'm pretty sure this will work even if you're on stock or with any custom ROM. I found this solution in the Tmobile forums and I give the credit to user dk123 for posting it. I'm running OSX Lion by the way.
First make sure you remove the Kies software from your computer. I used appZapper.
Then I removed ssuddrv.kext from System/Library/Extensions. I made a copy of the file first and saved it in my documents just in case something goes wrong.
Before reconnecting my phone i made sure to check USB Debugging and when I reconnected it AFT found my phone instantly.
I don't know how helpful this may be, but I've been wondering for months why ATF wasn't working. It's still not the most user friendly way to connect your S3 to your Mac, but at least I can move music files over fairly easily without having to use the crappy Kies Software. I hope this helps even just one person.

Kies Air is the s&%$.
Use AirDroid app. All you need is your computer and your phone on the same Wifi network and a browser.

S-beamed from my GSIII via xda premium
That is a pretty good program, but my music library is a little on the large side. I like the quick use of AFT for moving ROM downloads or moving pictures off my phone. Small stuff. Kies is just way too slow and klanky on my machine.

From finder, click on your hard disk, then find click on system folder, then library folder then extensions folder. Scroll down to find the file and drag a copy to your desktop before deleting it.

 I nearly cried/ That's brilliant. We were in a parallel universe, you and I with the android/mac connectivity and yes Kies really isn't geared for Mac users. ATF is clunky but certainly productive, And it would seem, the only way around the problem since Apple have fallen out with, well, most every other competitor, Especially Samsung given their legal arguments the last couple of years. Amyway, I'm waffling. Just wanted say thanks for the detective work and the solution.

[Q] Unable to detect country

When I start either WatchON or Samsung Hub, I get a message that says "unable to detect country" or "This device is not supported in your country" and then the app closes.
I should probably mention I live in the United States.
Strangely enough, if I log into the public wifi I can access from my residence, it is fine. Maybe it's just an issue with my regular wifi, but I wouldn't be able to test it with another private connection unless I took my tablet to a friend's house.
Is anyone else having this issue and found a solution for it?

This only happens if you are using a rom not specified for your region , but as long as you you live in the States & your Note has been released for US , this should not show up.

Considering I bought my Note at Best Buy and no one's found a way to root it yet, that can't be the stem of my problem.
Same issue here
The same thing happens to me. I'm also in the US and bought my tablet from Best Buy. It attempts to load Samsung Hub, but then stops and gives me a message that 'this service is not supported in this country'. I attempted to contact Samsung, with as low of expectations add I could muster, and they said I should go to settings, general, app manager, all apps, then force stop it, clear data and restart the Note. Didn't work for me, but luckily I didn't expect it to.
I'm in the UK, and bought my 10.1 from the US. Could this be why I can't watch HD Play Movies? Is it worth flashing the UK firmware via Odin?

I'm having the exact same issue with WatchON and Samsung Hub (Video Only - the Music, Apps, and Books work on Samsung Hub). I get the "unable to detect country" or "this device is not supported in your country" and the app closes.
I also live in the US. I just went down to the Best Buy to talk to the Samsung rep on site and she said she had never heard of it. I was glad I had screen shots to show her (didn't do much good). We powered it up and everything worked great. I got home and AGAIN it gives me the "unable to detect country". I went down to the Apartment public wifi and it works fine again.
I thought it must have something to do with settings on my Linksys wireless router. So I checked and the time setting is correct for Central Time zone. No issues there. Then I tried the Samsung Hub Video and WatchON on my Samsung S4 (with mobile data turned off, Wifi only) and they both work perfect on my home wifi. So its something with the Note 10.1 2014 tablet I guess.
Strange how it works on the public wifi at BestBuy and the Apartment but not on my home network. But yet, my Samsung S4 works fine on any network.
Still looking for a solution.

That is weird, has Samsung been able to help any more? You know, I had the same exact issue on a Note 8.0 I had, but after a FW update it finally started working okay.

No luck with support, who clearly are not up to date on the products they sell (though with the sheer amount they do, I can't blame them). After she told me try to change a setting that does not exist on the device, she recommended a factory reset. Having read some other posts about this same issue, I'm not going to waste my time with that. All I'm hoping is for a big update from Samsung or a custom ROM that can help me out.

Unlocked G2 w/ Max WiFi Users 1 + Questions

TLDR: Unlocked LG G2 was on Sprint, now on VIVA in Kuwait, Max WiFi users when running hotspot is 1 - I want to increase it to more.
Long version:
Hello! I am a military service member deployed to Kuwait. I have a Sprint LG G2 which is rooted and running the latest UltraPop ROM. Before I left the US, my phone was activated on the Sprint network and when I would use my WiFi hotspot, I had the ability to connect up to 10 users or something. When I got to Kuwait, I had to have my phone SIM unlocked for International use to make it work with the SIM cards provided by the carrier here (it's called VIVA). My phone was not on the Sprint network when I needed to unlock so when I did the UICC unlock it did an OTA over WiFi and then I was able to use my phone on their carrier. This is all well and good.
The problem is, I want to connect my laptop, my tablet and a few other items to my hot spot - thus the appeal of the hot spot, right? LOL. Anyway, several advanced options like the radio channel, frequency, etc. have now disappeared and in addition, the most important one - the amount of users able to connect to the hotspot, went from allowing 10 to 1. I am not sure why, except maybe something to do with the OTA update when I did the UICC unlock.
I did some reading and found this article: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2718682
Quickly I tried it and restarted my phone. No change. Then I noticed there was another hack for phones that had been activated on the Sprint network, which as I explained above, believe applies to me. This article has a more complicated procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2675280
I am afraid to try this method and screw things up. I suppose I could boot in TWRP and do a NANDROID back up before I try it but I am wondering if anyone thinks it will hose the only working Internet I have right now in Kuwait.
Any help is appreciated. Also, if anyone knows how to get the WiFi hotspot to allow devices to connect while running a VPN at the same time please enlighten me!
Thanks!!!
Sincerely, Lost & Confused...
OK, so I am going to resurrect my own thread here. I spent some time on and off dealing with the 1 client max for the hot spot in my Sprint LG G2. Lots of frustration. Anyway, digging deeper based on a tip another friend of mine gave, I discovered something that I thought would have helped, but no cigar.
Anyway, a variable called max_num_sta in the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant/hostapd.conf allows the access point to have only one client. The hostapd application on Android performs almost identical to an average Linux distro, so I figured by modifying this variable I would be able to allow more than 1 client to connect to my hotspot. However, even when changing the file manually, as soon as the hot spot is enabled thru the stock interface, only 1 client is able to connect and looking at the file again shows the value of the variable has been reset.
Next step on the list, was to run the hostapd manually from an Android terminal (something like hostapd -e/data/misc/wifi/entropy.bin -BK /data/misc/wifi/hostapd.conf). The command works at the hot spot functions, but again somehow resets to 1 freaking client again!
I would really like to be able to use my G2 to connect more than one device at a time to my hot spot while I am stuck in Kuwait. It is my only source of Internet. Anyway. Is there a way to disable the stock Wi-Fi Hot Spot interface using Titanium Back-up? Remove the APK? Modify the system? Something? I'd really like to figure this out. Any info or suggestion appreciated...

Retrieve data from LG Quick Memo for a non LG device?

Hey all,
Let me start by saying that after searching a bit, I've come to the conclusion that there is no way to run the LG Quick memo app on non LG devices.
Here's the story:
The LCD-Digitizer on my G3 (D580) suddenly died. When the screen displayed, but was just unresponsive to touch, I was able to work around it by operating the phone via USB OTG cable and mouse. But suddenly, it stopped even displaying anything, which is frustrating because I took excellent care of it (no water damage/shock damage, always had it in a rugged case with screen protector). Anyway. I've switched over to a Huawei Honor 8, IMHO the most affordable flagship.
What I miss most from my G3 are the notes that I know I synced to an email address in the LG note app. Any ideas on how I can view those again without access to my G3? I can't afford to repair the screen because the part is so expensive!
Am I the only one with this issue? I'd appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks!
Even though I never got a response, I figured out my own workaround and I'm so relieved that I'll pay it forward.
The solution that worked for me:
If you had the foresight to sync your memos before you lost screen functionality, then getting them back is as simple as walking into a T-Mobile/AT&T/Verizon store and using an LG device on display (or borrowing a friend's). I didn't really think about it, my syncing was more like dumb luck than foresight to be honest, but ANYWAY
Sign into the Quick Memo Plus app on the LG device that you have access to and use your backup/retrieval method of choice. I can confirm that LG G3, G4, G5, and K10 have Quick Memo Plus but there may be other LG devices that will do the job. The only reason that this is an issue is because LG Quick Memo Plus is an app that will only work on some LG devices. It's not available in the Play Store and even if you have the apk, it will not install on non-LG devices. (Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong, it has something to do with odexes and the LG framework)
Once I was able to view my memos, I went through them one-by-one and copied the most irreplaceable ones to an email draft. Took a few minutes but it was worth it. Be sure to sign out of the display phone/your friend's phone before you leave and be sure that the notes are not viewable even after you sign out. I know that even after I signed out of Google, the memos were still viewable on the display phone, so I had to select them all and delete them from that phone.
I hope that this helps if anyone finds themselves in a similar situation.
Sent from my FRD-L04 using XDA Free mobile app
Instead of hand-copying memos to an email, you can export the entire note collection and email that. It exports to a .lqm file, which is only really openable with QuickMemo+, but it's also in plaintext, so you can open it with a text editor and see your notes. This is a good idea only if you have several dozens of notes you want to recover just need to store the text.
LG QuickMemo+ issue with using other devices
I've been scouring the internet for something that'll let me log into QuickMemo+ online or another app. I came across this & I'm glad I didn't have to spend countless hours looking for a solution! Thank you so much! ??
Why just dont use google keep... That problems is enougs reason not to use anything specific to LG. Like lg backup etc...
Can anyone here pls provide instructions for how to send my entire notes?
I have an LG G7 & I'd like to keep my QuickMemo+ notes for the future in either my gmail or a google type app in case my phone dies. I read the instructions provided by someone in this thread but I am not a techie so they were missing a few "steps for morons" lol that I need. Can anyone dumb it down and write it out more fully? Thank you so much!
Here are some basic instructions

So what you can simply do is extract the .lqm by 7zip or winrar or any app of the sorts you will get a couple of folders which are images, drawings, videos and audios. But what interests us is the memoinfo.jlqm which you can rename the file and changes the extension into a .txt so it'd become memoinfo.txt which can be opened with almost any text viewing app. Now there will be a lot of "garbage" but within the "garbage" the text that was in the memo will be there. And that's it if you want the text but I don't know whether or not the photos or audio files are saved normally or in a proprietary format. Hope this helped.
