[Q] New SW3 and a couple Q's - Sony Smartwatch 3

Hi Guys,
Proud owner of a lime green sw3 that I got for Father's Day. I am a school technology teacher, so I am always interested in the latest stuff that's out and wanted one because of the built in GPS, as I am a cyclist and would prefer not to have my phone on me all the time when riding or running. I so have a couple of questions though...silly ones, but because I am new to the android wear platform, I would like advice from you guys, the experts. My phone is an unrooted t-mobile sony xperia z and it connected up perfectly. Questions I have are the following:
How do I enable NFC on the watch in order for the watch and phone to be able to communicate but not have to be near each other? I know this is a new feature as of the latest android wear update, but I really want to take advantage of it.
If my work network has a proxy, is there any way for me to change the proxy settings for my work network on the watch so that it can use my work wireless network or am I out of luck?
How do I get the watch to use the built in navigation on it? Or does it do it automatically when I navigate and the phone is not connected? It seems to only navigate when connected to my phone as of right now.
Strava (cycling gps app) always seems to be trying to turn itself on...What's up with that?
Thanks in advance, and I think that is it for now. Everything else is pretty easy and I love android wear so far. Sorry if I missed any answers when I was searching around here!

[Q] Enough is enough! Need help with galaxy note 2 bugs/issues please!

Ok, firstly I apologize if these have been covered before but I need help with a few issues with my galaxy note 2 that Ive sure you guys have noticed as well. Im no expert but I have had android phones for a few years so I do know the basics. Im thinking it might be time to root/rom or whatever my phone because I think the issues I am having are bugs in the software though I have never attempted such a feat, havent really had a reason to until now. I absolutely love this phones, its super awesome, one of the best ive had but there are a few nagging issues I have that Im not sure if its just me or the software, usually Im pretty good with tech stuff. Have a samsung galaxy note 2 on att network android version 4.1.2 and ive searched around a little and best I can tell the newer version i have has changed some menu options which I cannot find and caused or not fixed some of my other issues.
1. I am unable to adjust the locations of the options on the screen when you pull it down from the top such as wifi, bluetooth, airplane mode and whatnot. Near as I can tell it was possible to organize them in the order you wanted before the update that added multiscreen support and it seems multiscreen support options under settings has taken place of the setting to adjust these icons and I cannot find anywhere to change them. Have you guys noticed this? how is it possible to change them or are they stuck now?
2. The media player auto playing when connecting to my bluetooth sync system in my ford F150 is kinda neat but highly annoying as it auto starts the player when it connects whether I want it to or not, and usually I do not because I rarely use my phone to play audio via bluetooth and when i do its through my Sirius XM app or pandora or some other media player and its highly annoying having to end the default media player and start play on my preferred app every time I shut off and restart my truck, or disconnect and reconnect bluetooth if you prefer. Is there a way to get this default app to NOT auto start playing every time it connects to bluetooth? I have been unable to find such an option and its getting on my nerves and draining my battery when I dont even want it on, GRRR!!
3. Pretty sure this one is a software bug/change but every android phone Ive ever had auto sets a 15 minute time reminder when I enter a calendar entry, which Ive gotten used to and is awesome as far as im concerned because an entry without a reminder is worthless. I have to turn on a reminder manually every time and have not been able to find any setting to change to revert this back to the normal experience that im used to on my at least 4 previous android phones. I have gotten used to manually turning it on now but its still annoying and i would like to be able to skip this step to save time as I use the calendar reminder features daily.
Thats all i can think of for right now, but im sure theres some I forgot. Hoping some of you experts can hook me up with some easy fixes to these issues or point me in the right direction of how to resolve them if possible, thanks a million!
Whew!!
One hell of a post there ...
An easy solution to the majority of your device issues would be...
Flashing back to the factory shipping rom...
It is pushed to the device via Odin.
I believe the rom is UCALJ2...
In the development section, under the "everything" thread, you will find the rom listed above.
There you will also find Odin, its PC drivers, and instructions to restore the device to pure stock.
The recent updates to the device will be removed, and following the Odin flash, the device will be pure stock and have no personal data...(fair warning)
From that point, to prevent the updates from appearing again, the update application must be frozen by using titanium backup or an app capable of rendering the update application null.
This process must be done with care ...and not before you understand what you are doing.
The steps in those threads are complete, but you must learn them first.
Happy reading and learning ....and happy flashing ....g
Your right. ..time to root it and add a custom rom. The new Jedi is awesome. . (shameless plug. ...lol)
Mac
Here is my thread to get back to stock. Enjoy

I wasnt aware you could move your toggles in the dropdown but then again I was only stock for a couple days.

WiFi is not enabled until Google releases a version of Android Wear that supports it.
The same for NFC, it's active but only limited functionality available right now.

This is great news to hear! Can I ask for the source?

...And I posted official test documents in this forum proving it has WiFi
and the wait is almost over!!!
Been a long time in the making but finally:
Wi-Fi support
With GPS and offline music support, you can already leave your phone at home, then go jogging and jamming like normal. Now Android Wear supports watches with built-in Wi-Fi. As long as your watch is connected to a Wi-Fi network, and your phone has a data connection (wherever it is), you’ll be able to get notifications, send messages, and use all your favorite apps. And if you really do forget your phone, you can always ask your watch where it is.

Is the wifi feature properly working? How will I know if the wifi feature is working? does this mean i can turn off bluetooth on my phone and have the smart watch still work?
The latest update to the Wear app now includes the Wi-fi functionality however, I could not get it to work. Has anybody else had any better luck
You still need to receive the Smartwatch upgrade (watch itself)
It should be out in the next couple of days or weeks. Just keep checking the Sony companion app.
Is there a Sony companion app for the SW3? I normally just check under settings on the watch itself.

yeah for windows though
when I first bought my SW3, I received a firmware upgrade notification. I was able to update it thru the watch itself connected to my phone,

I didn't know there was any NFC functionality yet. What is currently usable for NFC?
I think the only thing NFC on the watch can do is open the app on your phone. Apart from that it's useless.
You can use NFC to pair headphones with your watch, I pair my sbh-80 headphones this way
Has anyone received the wifi update yet?

Thanks. I just found on another thread that it also starts up the watch when it's off. I tested it and that works and is pretty cool that NFC works when the watch is off, though I have doubts there will be many possibilities of using NFC with the watch off.
NFC can be somewhat powered by the reading device, so I thought I'd give this a try to see if it was enough to wake the watch up and power on. I turned my watch off, and tapped it to the NFC location on my phone. The phone launched the Android Wear companion app. The watch and phone both vibrated, and the "Sony" logo appeared on the watch then disappeared without ever finishing booting. I tried leaving it on the phone, and it buzzed a few times trying to start.

Won't stay connected

Just got this watch. I had the Moto 360 before, it worked fine.
This doesn't want to stay connected. I have to reset the watch, uninstall Android Wear and re-install it, then it'll connect once. After that, it disconnects and won't connect again. So notifications, syncing, weather, etc don't work.
Looking at my phone in Android Wear it just says Connecting.... on the watch, it says disconnected. Going into Bluetooth settings doesn't do a damn thing either.
Try Bluetooth Auto Connect from Playstore, it´s working for me on a Note3 with Omega Rom
Thanks for the reply. I managed to sort it out... I missed the step to click "trust device" during the initial set up. I didn't realize that was a necessary step for the watch to stay connected. You'd think it'd just do it automatically.
I don´t know, if it´s automatic, but i have the function with klicking on "trust device", no change, only the "Blutetoot Auto Connect" app is working.
This piece of crap is doing it again. Once its been disconnected, it won't connect again without complelety startinh over and resetting everything.
I'll check out that app.
You know, people can bash apple all they want, but at least their **** actually works properly.
Hasn't happened in a while, but if mine won't connect I just go to the android wear app and disconnect the Zenwatch then connect again. Works every time...
Tried that, many times.. never works. That app doesn't work either.
Well this is a serious problem I've had the watch for about six weeks now it took awhile to get initial set up to begin with I was at the point to return it on the first day , then I don't know how but it just paired and started working fine , I was very happy until today turned the watch on it wasn't paired and I've literally been trying for hours to get this chit to connect with no luck I've reset it ,tried the app mentioned above no luck at this point I give up I bough it at best buy but I'm past the return period I'm going to try and find some customer service rep ,at this point I give up trying to get the watch to work,if anyone knows of a customer service phone number I would greatly appreciate it , or if anyone here has any helpful information , ,I'm pretty tech wavy. But I surrender at this point what a shame I really liked the watch but the aggravation factor is to much ,sorry for the.long rant but there's no where else to vent or look for help maybe together as a group we can find some answers again any help would be greatly appreciated......
did you forget the watch in your phones Bluetooth settings?

Thank's for replying but yes I've tried everything under the sun , just got home from work , going to see if I can't find a customer service number , if I can't get it resolved by the weekend I might as well throw 200$ in the Trash because That's where it's Going ....................:crying:
Go to settings / apps on your phone. Find google play services under running apps. See if device connection service is running. If not try rebooting your phone then the watch in that order and try to pair. You could also check if there is an update for play services and update if there is.

Same issue here, boxing up my ZenWatch and bringing it back to Best Buy today. Still within the 15 days. I really like the watch but these random disconnects are a killer. Most of the time it auto-reconnects but every now and then I have to reboot everything--which is kinda ridiculous if I'm out running.
At least I'll have a different watch with everything else the same for comparison sake and report back.
Have you tried uninstalling zenwatch manager? Mine started disconnecting after the last update, and uninstalling seems to have fixed my issue

I had the same problem I think the update from google services broke it.
unpair the watch from your phone then factory reset the watch and this is IMPORTANT pair your watch using "android wear" NOT the Bluetooth from the system phone
after I paired my watch using Android Wear now the watch stay connected and reconnect normally

After half a day working this seems to be the solution, thanks. :good:
Bad luck: two days later same problem persists (frequently disconnecting)
I am getting pretty tired of my Zenwatch not staying connected either. $200 is a lot of money for a watch that doesn't work right. It's had three or four updates since I bought it and it still sucks, should have sent it back the first week.
The Google nag to enable Google Now in the Android Wear screen is also a sore spot with me, if I wanted it enabled it would be enabled.
This whole "wearables" thing seems to be a poorly executed fad more than anything else, one that I'll be avoiding from here on out.
why would you have a watch that relies so heavily on google now and not enable it? connection has been just fine for me no several phones and software versions since I got it in January

Same here. I mean, it has disconnected maybe 3 times since I got it in November, but it hasn't been a big issue. Toggling BT on the phone reconnected it. I also agree with you about Google Now. It's central to how Wear works. Using a Wear device without Now would be like buying a car and trying to drive it without starting the engine.

You don't need Google now to benefit from owning this watch.
1. I like the ability to change watch faces and create my own with Watchmaker.
2. I can answer or dismiss a call from the watch.
3. Text and email notifications.
That's all I care about, anything else is an unnecessary distraction.

xDrip and Dexcom for Diabetes blood sugar monitoring not working on Robin

This post will probably not have many responses as it is not something many use, but I have to post everywhere hoping I will find the answer eventually.
My fiance use a Dexcom G4 with share which is a bluetooth device that monitors her blood sugar levels constantly.
Some people created a great community to create an app that connects to this bluetooth device and can display the data from the Dexcom to your phone. The app is called xDrip. After getting everything connected, you can also create a website with a database that uploads the data and displays it on an azure based website and then you can see a realtime graph of the blood sugar. You can even connect ifttt to it which will enable extra actions for low and high blood sugar warnings.
We had all this working fine on a oneplus 1 running android 5 (lollipop), but since receiving the Robin I have not been able to get it working again. After lots of searching and attempts, I found that the app will find the dexcom when scanning for bluetooth devices, if you first go and enable location permissions (this is needed for android 6.0 marshmallow). I was able to find the dexcom and pair it this way, but then it says disconnected instead of updating with data.
I have posted in the facebook community for the dexcom (CGM in the cloud), hoping someone would be able to help, but so far we have not been able to find a solution.
I do not expect many (if any replies to this) but I have to post this question on every forum hoping someone can help.
Hey, thanks for letting us know. Unfortunately, we don't have a Dexcom G4 unit here to test, but maybe this is a Bluetooth issue.

so it turns out the March OTA update fixed this. It is now working.
Dexcom G4, not 5? That would be great news to me. I had assumed the thing works with a proprietary wireless standard.

Can this replace a phone as a standalone?

Hello xda users
I wonder if I can use this to replace my Huawei P9. I am primarily interested in the phone, message (SMS) functions, Google Maps (incl. GPS) , weather and mailbox functionality.
For the rest (ie. Whatsapp) I want to use them on my Galaxy Tab S4, which I can't take with me all the time (hence original question).
Phoning might be a bit tricky, so I wonder what are you solutions to this? Sofar I thought about Bluetooth "headsets".
Thanks for any responses in advance
This is a personal opinion but I think this would be like changing car to bike. You can drive both but it is not the same
Phone is good (between the speaker and bluetooth headset support).
GPS works well enough. Not sure I'd want turn by turn in a car on it but it works.
Texting is fairly inconvenient.
I agree with the previous person. Can you do it? sure. Would I want to? not really. You would be better off getting the smallest cheapest android phone that supports the watch and just don't pull your phone out very often. Heck you could keep it in phone only mode (assuming that is supported) and only switch to the regular mode when needed.
