some questions about the Zuk Z2 and it's problems - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Questions & Answers

so i can buy the black version for 200$,
but I have read that this phone has many problems.
Im not really a guy who wants to deal with root, ROMs, etc.
I just want it to be updated to Android 7 as it will be released.
the other option for a phone is probably the Redmi 4 Prime.
should i buy it?
can someone explain the common problems this phone has, and how to solve them?

Stuttering

Hey.
I've been lurking in this section for about a week now, and from what I can see, people mostly have positive things to say about this phone.
I purchased, from eBay, a Hydrogen model and have constant stutters and lag in the UI/animations.
I have continued to experience this after flashing the "unofficial" Cyanogenmod 13 ROM.
Is it just me? Am I doing something wrong? Really love the massive screen on this thing and don't want to have to return it...
Thanks.

Can't speak for MIUI but the only CM13 versions I don't have that problem are the two earliest ones v2(6-14-16) and v3(7-5-16) from the guy who left us. All later ones have it on my hydrogen... So yeah you are not alone.
Maybe it's that slow Snapdragon 650. You should've bought a Helium.
I bought one of the first Mi Maxes that showed up on ebay right after china oficial release... Couldn't wait for helium...
PM me one of your cores and we'll have seven each... lol

thinking of buying one plus 3. need some info.

hello everyone. I'm thinking of buying a new phone after my g4 boot looped. this one is among one of the final choices.
so i wanted to get your view on this one as you all have been using it.
how is the speed?
the camera (front and back both)?
is the touch good?
and now down to the more deep questions.
which variant should i buy? i wanna use all features. i wanna root. i wanna unlock the bootloader. i wanna do much more. so which variant is the best?
and does it have any problems like the g4 boot loop problem?
thanks alot for your help.
I recoomend that you should wait for the OnePlus 5 (or 4) and buy that instead.

Hi first of all I know the pain of that g4 bootloop problem it happened to mine and I still haven't got a refund so I bought the oneplus 3 , the first thing you'll notice is the camera the g4's camera was amazing and oneplus 3 camera is okay but not like a DSLR and the second thing is the screen the G4 used LCD but oneplus3 uses amoled so it saves a lot of battery (with the right settings) but it's not as punchy , the good things about oneplus 3 is it's very easy to root it's covered under warranty for rooting and the development scene is really good alot of Devs work on this phone which means more goodies for us it's fast , it's light , it's not got a stupid over packed skin UI it's a very good phone , however I would rather wait til the Oneplus 5 comes out and get that or when the OP5 is released the 3t will most likely go down in price so I'd probably get that either way you'll have a decent phone.... Hope my info helped.

1. ONEPLUS 3 is quite fast. VertexOS with EAS takes it to the next level.
2. Camera both are actually quite good.. Low light is a little meh but it is not bad!
3. The touch. Well I came from A 5,5inch phone that was like a brick... This device lies in hand really good.
4. I would go for the Oneplus 3T or wait to see how expensive the Oneplus 5 is.
5. Rooting etc no problem make sure you do research first before asking questions. Oneplus covers warrenty even when rooted.
6. It does not have any problems currently. Is your G4 still under warrenty? Bootloops can just happen it doesn't mean your device is dead.

Root exploit

Has anyone else noticed that root is taking longer and longer to drop? I remember note 3 & 4, root dropped before the phone was put up for sale. I think they phone manufacturers and carriers are making it harder and harder to crack bootloaders. It is sad. We pay hundreds of dollars for a device and it really is not yours. They will tell you what they want and don't want you to do with your device.
Solution...... (yes I am dreaming and understand people will not band together)
We all need to stop upgrading and getting new devices. Hit them in the pocketbook. They WILL change their policies.

That strategy will never work with such a popular device. There's too few people who are interested in this. The only thing that would work here is legislation.
It's the nature of Android. Not only are devices more secure, but there's fewer and fewer people who desire to root phones these days. Those that do, have mostly moved over to dev-friendly phones like Nexus, Pixel, OnePlus, etc.
There is already a few private exploits for the s8/s8+ but i doubt they will be released
No more than 10% of Android user even know what root is. Manufacturers could care less if you decide not to buy because of lack of root.
since we can flash un-branded firmware on our devices now, i honestly have no desire to root anymore. The only thing i wish is that somehow get the Wi-fi calling and volte to work with the unbranded firmware.

I totally agree. With the unlocked firmware and all the themes in the theme store I have no need to root either. Half of the modifications people make for rooted devices are not exactly stable and will cause all sorts of instabilities with the os anyway. I've been rooting all my devices since the galaxy note, galaxy s days. I find it more useful to actually keep all my data on my device instead of flashing and reflashing all the time lol. ?

The majority of users don't know what rooting or a bootloader is, so those of us who like to root our phones, unlock the booatloader, use custom ROMs, etc are a very small percentage of the Android user base. As the software has developed, the reasons some individuals ran custom ROMs has been addressed, and those of us who were once diehard modders have slowly lost interest. I know back in my older Android days (LG G2, Galaxy Note 4, etc) I refused to use a device that wasn't running on a custom ROM. Today, I couldn't care less because the issues that drove me to rooting my device and using custom ROMs are no longer there. If I do get the itch to play around with custom ROMs, I can just buy a Nexus or Pixel device to play around with and my itch is satisfied.
The majority of the user base is your typical user who just wants to use the device. Most users care more about features over modability. And once you try out a few ROMs, it's a vicious cycle. I never had a stable device back in my Android KitKat days because I was swapping ROMs every other day. Part of the reason I intentionally buy devices where the bootloader cannot be unlocked, because I know I'll find myself in that same situation again. So just buying a second device and using that as my play-around device, and using my flashy Galaxy S8+ as my main driver is the best solution for me.
The best reason for no root in my opinion is awesome security. I'm happy to see there is no root just yet. Families who use this phone for bills, money trade, etc. need a solid secure phone. On the other hand if your not using this phone for financial data, than it really does suck. It sucks because of the limitations of theming.

I've been rooting for many years. Met a bunch of awesome devs and remained friends with them. I can actually say rooting your device has became a thing of the past. Past few phones I've had I didn't root. Just seems like rooting now causes to many problems which is mentioned up above. It's not stable enough to count on when it's way to buggy. Not saying anything about the devs we have today but the devs even back in the day still had bugs. Just seems staying unrooted is the way to go for more stable unbuggy rom to catch an upgrade for more fixes which are stable and add on's.

Eh, this is the first phone I've had in the past few years that I didn't feel like I needed to root. My previous phone was a Nexus 6p - while pure android and fast security updates was a definite plus, it just didn't have a lot of little features that I liked: theming, close Recents button at the bottom, stuff like that. And I never really felt that the custom kernels provided much better battery life than the stock kernel, which is the only reason that I flashed them in the first place. I'm pretty happy with the customization features present in Samsung's version of android, so I'm fine staying as is. Just being able to change carrier firmwares is enough for me.
This is also the first phone I haven't rooted on day one since the T-Mobile G1. In addition to the Samsung theme store there is now Substratum for Samsung available of which I am currently using Swift Black from the Play Store. Also on XDA there is a thread where you can use layers on your S8 or S8+. In addition to all of the customization the battery life is better than my rooted Nexus 6, best battery life of any phone I've ever had.
root has been achieved, developers are working the package:

Root has been released for our phones it's a lot of steps but follow everything as it says in the op and you will be fine I rooted first try

This is the first phone since the T-Mobile G1 that I haven't rooted on day one. I feel that there is no need for root on the S8+, we have the Samsung Theme Store and even better we now have Substratum on an unrooted S8+ plus quite a few layer to use for customization.

I wouldn't buy a phone that I can't install Viper4android and Ti on it.

True. Security is incremental: little by little security gets better & better building on previous security features. Root is nice, also true. Bootloader unlock would be awesome for development of custom roms/kernels, etc. Here's to hoping!
Nonsense!
I agree with one of you, we should look for dev friendly device.
But it will be so much pain if you face tons of unfriendly bloatware, overheat device and lag even with 4 or 6gb RAM. No matter what root still essential factor to develop friendly firmware.

Thinking of buying, what should I know?

I'm in the US so I'll have to import it. I've seen the places to buy and gearbest says 1 year of repairs. Reviews say they weasel their way out of most things though. Also saw it works on AT&T pretty well. Been comparing a bunch of phones and this one stands out the most, but I couldn't find everything I wanted to know, hoping you guys can help.
1) Is it worth considering gearbest as a warranty or consider it a no warranty purchase?
2) What about safetynet? Will things like netflix work without sideloading if I don't unlock the bootloader? Hulu, Android pay, whatever future bs starts checking it? I use my phone for Netflix plenty.
3) Is there a difference in the eu rom I've seen mentioned and global rom?
4) Assuming I'd want the global phone, do I need to flash it after that for any reason?
5) how clunky is video chat with the front camera location? Does it work well in landscape mode (preferred)?
6) did I miss anything worth knowing? ?
Thanks to whoever answers! Trying to scratch the new phone itch. Might wait to see what drops at mwc.
1) Expect no warranty at all
2) On Global Stable ROM, yes.
3) Yes. Xiaomi.EU is a community ROM based on china dev. Global ROM is an official Xiaomi ROM
4) If you buy a "global" version you don't have to flash it, it comes with global stable preinstalled. It doesn't matter what version you get though, all the same HW wise.
5) You have to turn the phone around, doesn't work in some apps (Snapchat I believe?). In landscape mode it works just as well(or bad?) as a normal front facing camera, what's the actual difference if you hold the device in landscape mode?
6) Buy this beautiful phone..

1 - As good as no warranty.
2 - flash global rom and ur good to go as it has all google services installed.
3 - Yup, global rom is the best
4 - flashing is not a big issue, u just download a file and put it in your phone and use updater app to flash it. No unlocks or tough stuff.
5 - video chat is pretty bad. Not the phone if u do lot of video chats. Front camera on whole is pretty bad to be truthful.
6- Camera should not be ur priority and stay away from this phone if u like stock interface. Other than that this phone is a beauty.
Thank you guys so much you've been really helpful!

I was thinking about waiting until after mwc to pick a phone so that's not a bad idea. Have to see how much the new one costs too, I'm on a budget and have to buy two =/
Does it do screen mirroring?

What could be the risks of buying Honor phones that were made before the ban?

I know the ban doesn’t directly affect phones like Honor View 20, and Huawei has promised Android 11 for this phone, but from what I read some people say the future is not clear, and some problems might occur in the future with google apps? What could these problems be? For example, would future updates for Youtube app come for this phone? And is it possible that I encounter some problems with Youtube app if future don’t updates come?
This is the best phone I can buy with my budget by far, I just wanna know what risks I am taking by buying an Honor phone. Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance.
Im my opinion there are no risks because 'future' is like 5-10years and in that time phone will be long gone in the trash or better recycled.
The same is with old android phones that havent recieved updates for 4, 5 or more years, maybe some apps are starting to get unsopported becaue of the old android version. But gapps, for example youtube you will always be able to play... Ok, you wont have the 'latest' version but it wont affect the video play.
