Both cameras not working - HTC Desire 530 Questions & Answers

Hello. I have a htc desire 530 and for some time the cameras stoped working. Every time i open the camera app the screen goes black( the camera ui still appears but not the image) and after a few seconds the app closes and i am returned to the homescreen.
I tried resetting the phone a couple of times but no luck.

Few Questions:
- Are You Rooted?
- Bootloader Unlocked?
- What Device Variant?(TMO, Metro, Fam Mobile, Unlocked)
- Have you tried using an RUU?

Camera problem after froyo update

First boot everything works apart from camera application and video record when i press them i go to the central screen again,i restarted the phone 2 times same problem, anyone else with that problem?
Camera works fine here
Unbranded desire from denmark
mine doesn't work anymore after froyo update
Confirmed does not work on unbranded desire from UK. Also note that the market is having some issues (installed apps not showing in the downloads section, apps not always opening properly)
i had this problem on one of my desires too, i ended up formatting the SD and factory data reset and now the phone works fine, no more random restarts or camera issues.
the camera works now. did nothing
how long did it take after the update for the problem to be resolved -- did you restart or do anything at all?
Fine here. Unbranded (and un-rooted) Desire in the UK.
720p video seems quite good.
mine fixed too!! i dont know why but it works now!
I had the same problem but deinstalling LED Light widget fixed it

No camera problems here
The camera app did not launch after upgrade.
Factory reset solved it.
A simple search before dupe posting would save you a reset - this problem has been covered by at least 2 earlier threads. The answer, works for most, is here:

I'm having the same problem, but only when opening the camera in portrait mode. If I open it in landscape, it works fine.
same issue

Just ran into this problem where the camera app would FC after launch. The problem is Last Pass and the new app integration they introduced recently. You have to disassociate the camera from Last Pass and the problem is gone. The setting is in the last Pass options.

Having the same issue since I installed all my apps and did play store updates. It only crashes when I go into portrait mode. It works fine as long as I stay landscape.
Tried removing Snapchat, vine, all camera related apps. Closed camera. Deleted cache, clear data.
I thought maybe it was the sd card. That didn't fix it either. I'm stumped. Sending HTC and email.

I've just found that if I go into the app in landscape mode, go to Settings\Reset to default, then go into portrait, it works fine until the app is closed/reopened.

I tried that too, it only works for a few rotates then it dies again.

This is exactly my problem
I emailed htc from my corporate email so they should get back to me fast
Thanks for that, it isn't a "big" deal now that I realize I can turn the phone and get it to work but it was maddening until I read that here.

Thanks to @mentallo in this post, it's now fixed for me.
The problem was the new lastpass app integration. To fix it: -
Log into the Lastpass app
Open Preferences
Edit App Associations
Select Camera
Change it to 'Do not show fill window'
Confirmed for me well, thanks for passing it along.

What if I don't have LastPass and never have? Currently, it just shows a black screen in portrait mode but works in landscape. No crashing at least!

Did anyone still couldn't find a solution?

My problem was with a rotate app that I had installed which was interfering with the camera app. I ended up using an app called Rotate by FaMe IT. Auto doesn't work but Forced Auto does work. If you have "Enable per App settings" unchecked, then the stock camera will be black on Portrait mode. I also deselected the "Show Selection Popup".
I bought my m8 yesterday. My camera has never worked. I don't know what to do please help me about it? I have Htc One M8 without camera
m8 camera crashing
I am having the same problem with the camera crashing in portrait mode immediately upon opening the app, but not crashing or at least not crashing right away in landscape mode. I've had my m8 since it came out and have not had any problems until recently. I do not use last pass but do run Roboform. After reading these posts I disabled Roboform and camera works even in portrait mode. Have been trying to find an option in Roboform's settings similar to the last pass fix, but so far nothing. Is anyone familiar with Roboform or have any suggestions? I run Roboform on my laptop as well for easy syncing and never had problems before this. Thx
This is an older thread, but I just ran into the problem, so I figured I would post an update.
My camera started doing this a few days ago, and I started suspecting hardware because I don't have any apps that accessed the camera. Or rather, so I thought. It turns out that the banking app I use can take pictures of checks for deposit, and that after using that app (even if I didn't use the camera) the main camera app would force close. Freezing (or at least not using) the banking app leaves the camera fully functional.
This sounds like a bug in the camera API, not the apps, but if this happens it would be wise to check all installed apps that get used frequently to see if they specify a camera permission.

Phone crashes

I've had an HTC One M8 for 4 days. The phone is amazing, however something is making it reboot randomly. Today I've been testing it quite intensively, installing most of my favourite apps, taking pictures, doing some browsing etc, and the phone has crashed three times. I don't think it has anything to do with the app I happen to be using at the time of the reboot, as it's been a different one each time, and there's been reboots at night as well when the phone was idling. Temperatures have been normal all the time (< 35ºC).
Anyone having similar problems? Any ideas on how to find out what's causing the problems?

I have the same problem and so do 2 of my colleagues who are completely stock. How did it go for you?

[Q] Stock Launcher doesn't launch apps as expected, is this normal?

With both the M7 and M8, I could swipe up on the camera (stock ROM) and the camera would launch right away without having to do the pattern unlock. With the M9 (which I just got 2 days ago), when I swipe up on the camera it does not launch the camera app, but it delays for ~3 seconds, then tells me to do pattern unlock. When I do the unlock, it goes to my home screen and still doesn't launch the camera app.
Is this behavior consistent for everyone else on the stock ROM/launcher?
Still investigating what launchers/ROMs I'd be most interested in for this new device or whether it's even worth keeping. Having quick camera access is pivotal and the motion gesture holding the phone in landscape and pushing the volume button is a complete joke (works 1/3 the time... maybe).
I have both m8 and m9 and no software differences at all in this area . try to factory rest your phone and I think the problem will be fixed .

It couldn't be the same software.
A) M9 is 64 bit OS and M8 is 32 bit
B) Sense 7 hasn't even been officially released for the M8, so if you're using a Sense 7 rom on your M8, then it is a port from an M9 rom.
So...stock it's definitely not the same software and even if you're running the "same" custom ROM on both, they're not really the same, just similar.
I am able to launch the camera from the lock screen with no issues and always have. I agree, do a wipe and reflash; something is borked on your phone.

Let me see if I understand...So you have camera icon in your docked icons? How are you turning on the screen? Power Button? Then you pull up the camera icon from the lock screen? Then you get a 3 second delay and then you have to enter your pattern unlock? And after you enter your pattern, you get the home screen and not the camera?
That doesn't sound normal. I'm not on a stock rom right now, but when I put the camera icon in my docked icons, turn the screen on and swipe it up, I get the camera immediately (but I'm using smartlock right now and I don't have to enter my pin when I'm in the office).
Good (?) to know I'm just uniquely seeing bad behavior. I'll try factory reset phone under backup & reset. Loving the ability to search settings fluidly now.
Thanks everyone for the info!

Just tried that to no avail. Even with the setting at "Lock Screen" but no pattern/pin lock, it still delays then goes to home screen regardless of app I attempted to launch.
SW Version 2.6.651.11
5.1
Sense 7

What about other apps? Like mail or messages? Do they have the same behavior? I assume they would, but I really know know why that would happen. Did you check in the Sprint forum to see if anyone else is having that issue?
After getting a new device with 5.0.2 that worked fine, I upgraded to 5.1 and saw the issue again. That's when I looked more thoroughly through the Play Store for app updates (probably skimmed through on first device). I'm pretty sure after updating "HTC Sense Home" with its proclaimed "bug fixes" the issue was gone. Camera and other swipe up apps on lock screen behave as expected now.

Apps Won't Launch Anymore

Hi. There's this app I've been using that suddenly stopped working. It just launches and shows me a black screen. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app but it still doesn't work. In my frustration I did a factory reset and the app started working again. The problem is after 1 day it stopped working. And even if I uninstall and reinstall it doesn't launch. Is it a firmware problem of the g4 or something?

What app? Third party? Did you contact the app developer in the first place?
