New Active user here with ATT phone on cricket, but not getting nougat update... - Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Questions & Answers

I'm currently running 6.0.1 and bought the phone yesterday. It's locked (for now) to AT&T, but I have cricket as my service provider. Seems like when I go into the system settings and check for an Android upgrade, it says there is none available. How do I get offered 7.0 on the SGS7 Active?
Bonus points if there's a way to install Nougat clean without all the ATT garbage...or a way to actually remove the ATT apps. I don't mind the Samsung apps, I use those with my Gear Fit 2 and Samsung Pay I'd like to keep if I can....but I don't mind losing them either if it makes things easier. I can always download the samsung apps later.
Thanks for the help.

AT&T will only allow OTA upgrades for actual AT&T customers. It makes no difference to them that they own Cricket.
You can get Nougat by flashing with Odin. The QB2 release is the newest available on these forums.

Solutions to get ATT Updates on other carriers

Wondering what solutions people have used to get ATT updates while using other MVNO's (I'm on Crickett and still have not gotten the security update - wonder if it hasn't rolled out to me yet, or if I need to do something creative).
I have an old ATT Sim card, but it is not provisioned, so it didn't help.
Would buying a ATT GO phone sim work? Would that only work once, or could that one SIM card work perpetually (i.e. another update 6 months from now)? I have two Note 4's, could one sim work for both Note 4's?
I also hear Best Buy could help, but I want to find a solution I can do in my own home..
Thanks!!!!
just go to best buy and get the phone updated thru samsung rep
You could try Samsung's Kies program.
Best buy is quick and easy

They won't flash just the update, but instead the latest entire firmware with updates mixed in.
In other words, when you get these OTA updates that aren't an entirely new OS (like going from Kitkat to Lollipop), they're just patching the update into your existing firmware, which also results in the firmware version changing. However, Best Buy will flash the complete firmware with the patches already included. They can't just give you the patch. Odin will do the same exact thing as Best Buy too.
Also, you'll need to wait about 2 weeks after an update before going to Best Buy. They told me that only some Best Buys in highly populated cities will get the update files immediately. It can take a week or two for your neighborhood Best Buy to receive the needed update files.

Possible to Sideload Security Updates

I'm thinking of taking my AT&T Note 5 to StraightTalk to save some money. From what I've read I'll no longer be able to receive the "monthly" security updates if I'm not on the network any more. If this is the case, is there any way I could download them and side load like we all did with the MM update?
This is my first carrier branded phone after a Nexus 5 and a Galaxy Nexus, so being locked to a carrier is a whole new/horrible world to me.

Yes is is possible . You will loose all your data , but if you ok with this let me know what is your build?
If you never download anything from AT&T server you need to read more. I can do it for you just need to know about your build.
I have the same question - unlocked my at&t note 5 and am using cricket. I went through ODIN to get to 6.0.1, but my company requires a more recent android security patch. While it's a bummer to have to once again factory wipe my dang phone, I'm happy to give it a try. Do you have any links on how to download from AT&T server - I always get forbidden (and have tinkered with useragent settings with no luck). Thanks!!!

SIM Unlock Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus, Note 5

Each time I run though looking for more clues as to how to remove the network lock on my Sprint Galaxy S6 (SM-G920P) I come across this thread.
[GUIDE] SUCCESS!!! SIM Unlock Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus, Note 5
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...de-success-sim-unlock-sprint-samsung-t3130294
However, the first post has been removed due to the poster promoting paid services.
I am interesting in finding out what was in that post, other than the paid service. I've been digging for days and I'm stuck. I'd really like to be able to use my S6 but it's stuck on the Sprint network. My post-pay plan is on Verizon. I tried contacting Sprint but since I don't have the account details where it was activated previously, they refuse to unlock it for me. I tried paying a service $6 to unlock it but they never responded. I can't afford one of the services that's $40, I'm between jobs.
Does anyone know what was in that thread before? Or can point me in the direction of a solution? I have no problems dealing with the technical side if I have a tiny bit of guidance. It would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!
If you're no longer under contract and have paid off your phone. Just call sprint to unlock your phone. They have to because it's the law.
The thread I was speaking of didn't include any technical information as I had anticipated. Perhaps at one point but not when it was removed.
Swaydude, thanks for the info. I'll contact Sprint again. Everywhere I've looked says the IMEI is clean. The phone wasn't mine originally. I got it from my sister when she got her S7 a while back. She doesn't remember her account information. Apparently it was originally setup through a boyfriend but she'd been paying it for the last year or so. I'm not sure. She's all over the place sometimes.
You can try a number of things. If you want to switch to Verizon, you need a Verizon compatible imei. You'll need to lie to them over the phone. It's best to just get the service setup on somebody's Verizon phone, then switch the SIM cards out. (Give them back theirs and install the one you setup in your own phone.) First you'll need to unlock your phone..if you're rooting then you need idoneapps 3.15 & 3.18. There's a lot of fake versions around the internet being shared, if you pm me I'll send you the real ones. There's also cheap services on eBay that allow remote access to your computer's usb ports. People can change your imei using these but you're not likely going to get an imei that's compatible with Sprint or Verizon from those services. It's important to understand the value your original imei carries because it's worth $60 and will work with all the service providers. Changing means there's no possible way to get it back without sending your phone to Samsung and that's a really unreliable place to expect repairs after you've rooted. To avoid this you should install the latest 5.1.1 update and pay for the new idoneapps. It works without root, and can unlock your phone without worries. The issue with this is getting your new apns to save properly. You might need to reboot for them to show up after you save them, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times.. Or enter ##DATA## on your dialer, press tap on edit data profile, enter your msl code and then manually edit your apns from the profile menu. You'll need to download and flash the update from Odin and run the app with the imei package, it show do all the work for you apart from using Odin to downgrade. Also note that downgrading isn't that easy since the update binary level has to match the device level on specific partitions. This is why I suggest the latest 5.1.1 update from Sprint, because the app doesn't provide your msl on the newer updates without root.
You can use Z3X Samsung Tool Pro 27.2 or above. Just install it, select your phone model and you will see further instructions there itself. Just Google for the cracked/paid version.*If you get 'unlocking.... error.', you might need to flash old modem first.

anyone looking into the at&t and T-Mobile variations of the TAB S4 yet?

Just a quick question, but i have yet to see any discussion on rooting or roming and of the gsm versions of the tablet, Verizon has had the tablet the longest, but they are a no go with bootloader unlocks so its probably pointless, but i have some small amount of hope for TMobile and and a lesser amount for at&t version. thanks for answering, i bought the tablet anyways because it is literally the last good Android tablet left, root or no root so ill make it work either way, and themes will fix most of my issues anyhow

I had the T-Mobile and Verizon variants of this tablet and neither has "OEM Unlock" for the bootloader so rooting is not possible right now and most likely will require an exploit to be found to allow this. The community is small with these tablets from what I have seen so far.
Also, neither had the latest version of Firmware so Linux on DeX does not work on them yet. This could change any day when an update is rolled out but you will need to wait on the carrier to roll that out.
That said it is a Great Tablet!
fine to know i guess, all i need is a normal Android tab, might mess with the dex stuff but not why i getting it, i would only have rooted it when Samsung gave up on the tablet anyhow, as they always seem to do with the tablets in my experience
I bought the Verizon model not realizing it couldn't be rooted. I returned it.
Another big reason not to buy a carrier branded tablet is that it will be throttled data if using a voice line on TMobile.
However if you buy the Korean model, you can root, use your voice sim for full data speed voice and text apps, and get 6GB of ram.
This is the one I got shipped to the US. No issues whatsoever : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Ga...-LTE-Unlocked-4K-Record-SM-T835-/253816928507
Did you have to pay any customs/duty fees? Thx.

Nope, no fees. The item description warned of that but I didn't pay anything outside of eBay
I'm very happy and would do it again

The T-Mobile build was ARJ3 but it was the September Security Patch and a U1 bootoader. Linux on DeX looks like it needs at least the October Security Patch. Good Luck!

Is it possible to install a more "stock" rom

HI all,
I'm not sure if this is possible or not, but I recently got a really good deal on a Refurbished Note 10+ 5G from Back Market. The phone I actually ordered was a Unlocked AT&T model, I received a Unlocked Verizon model (SM-976V), which doesn't really bother me. However, with the Verizon model, I am not able to go in and tweak my APN settings (on the Verizon model these settings are greyed out with no way to unlock them, at least none that I've found), so I'm wondering if it is possible to flash a more stock rom that doesn't include all the b.s. Verizon bloatware. Not sure if it matters any, but I use Visible Wireless as my phone carrier.
Thanks in advance to any insight anyone has,
Yall have a great day,
TheDudestPriest504
Let android Power Manage the unused apps to deep sleep ~ and use the verizon stock ROM because of the too many security on it. If you mess with it you risk some things. Other than that you can try revert Bin7 ROM to earlier date and do some debug things as well as some SamFw Tool things. Those should work without touching the bootloader.
