Exynos LTE Bands - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Does anyone have any information on the bands the Exynos model will support?
I know that the S8 was missing band 30 for ATT. Besides that, what would I miss by getting an international version over the US unlocked one?

If Clove is to be believed, the Exynos S9 this year is missing even more bands than the S8 of last year. It is missing band 12 for T-Mobile, for example, while last year's had it. There's some conflicting information depending on models (dual sim or single sim SM-G960F), but here is what I see:
FrequenciesLTE Bands: FDD: B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B17(700), B20(800), B28(700), B32(1500), B66(AWS- 3) | TDD: B38(2600), B39(1900), B40(2300), B41(2500)

Check this site www.frequencycheck.com - here is the link sm-965F galaxy s9+ model

I cannot say how accurate the information is.

Well that is certainly more promising than what I found on the Clove listing, and certain SM-G96XF on eBay list the same frequencies. Great news! I think I'll get one and try it out on T-Mobile

Let us know when you do. Unfortunately, it looks pretty sure B71 (600) is out, so let us know how the performance and speeds are on TMo otherwise.

Might be a bit late, but here is the lte band info for the sm-g965f on samsung uk site---

LG lacking frequency bands compared to other manufacturers

I haven't seen this mentioned before but has anyone noticed LG devices are severely lacking bands compared to other manufactures? LG seems to tailor the bands based on the carrier and country. This seems fine if you don't leave your home country much. However, if looking for a device that works equally well in multiple countries, LG should be avoided. At least that's the conclusion I came to based on specs and my international needs.
For example:
T-Mobile LG V30 (14 LTE Bands)
LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 12(700), 20(800), 28(700), 29(700), 40(2300), 41(2500), 66(1700/2100), 71
T-Mobile S8+ (19 LTE Bands)
LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 66(1700/2100), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)
Sony Xperia XZ Premium (20 LTE Bands)
LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 19(800), 20(800), 26(850), 28(700), 29(700), 32(1500), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)
Currently the V30 would be the best option for T-Mobile only because it has band 71 but if traveling somewhere outside of USA, it seems like it would be the worst option. I'm probably going to pick up the Sony for this reason. and later on upgrade to something else with band 71 when T-Mobile has deployed it in more areas.
What do you think about the limited bands available on LG Devices? Do you think this will limit coverage or only LTE coverage? Why would LG do this, do they save money by not needing to do additional FCC tests?
T-Mobile has free text and data in over 140 countries. I would assume that any phone they release, especially flagships, will work in ALL these countries. Now, if you wanted an unlocked version to use with another carrier sim, then I could see why you might have an issue.
Based on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks it looks like the T-Mobile LG bands will cover just about every country. I only checked until Puerto Rico, but only 1 country before that didn't support any LG bands and that was Anguilla, a country I have never even heard of. Other than that, every other country had at least one carrier which supported the LG bands.

Yes, they work around the world but they don't have as many bands as other manufactuer's and they don't have all the bands available in other countries so it seems like coverage would be less. This isn't a T-Mobile issue, it's an LG issue. Take a look at any LG phone compared to any other phone on the same carrier and the LG model is always lacking bands. Sony seems to be quite the opposite where they have fewer versions of the phones with almost all bands.
I would definitely be putting in a local sim card in the destination country so this would be an issue, even if I wasn't, roaming coverage on your home carrier seems like it won't be as good as if you had a different manufacture's phone with more bands in the area your visiting.

Your best bet might be to wait until your next device to get a band 71 compatible device. Depending on where you live, you might not even see any band 71 coverage until your next phone anyway.
A good concern to bring up for those of us that travel and rely on T-Mobile's great international coverage. I'm looking to get the unlocked V30 myself and it seems to have an even lower number of bands compared to the T-Mobile version, at least from what I can see on B&H's pre-order site. My main overseas travel is to Pakistan and England and looking at the bands used in both countries, the LG V30 covers them. That being said, when I have traveled with my current Nexus 5 that has less bands, I haven't had too many issues. I expect overseas data to be slow unless I get a local SIM but I agree it would be nice to have more options.
From B&H:
LTE: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 20, 25, 66

This isn't just an LG issue. I've had the same issue with phones from any other provider. It's all part of traveling. I've always had to look at what bands are available where I'm going from which carriers and which bands my phone covered and then choose a local carrier accordingly. If you're lucky, you might even get a choice of two carriers that post coverage maps so you get to make a completely informed decision. So not really an LG thing.
In the band selection menu on the T-mobile version and on the box it shows 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12,13,17,20,25,28,29,30,38,39,40,41,46,66,71

Correct but if LG phones do in fact have 5 or so less bands, you're going to have more issues than if you had a different manufacturer with more bands. Depends on where you go and what those carriers support of course.

Strange. If accurate then every site online listing the specs is wrong.

Looks like nobody knows what bands the phone has.
LG website says:
B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B12, B20, B38, B39, B40, B41, B46, B66, B71 (Some are listed as roaming bands. Not sure if they would work with a local sim or not or what that means)
GSM Arena says:
B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B12, B20, B28, B29, B40, B41, B66, B71
T-Mobile website says:
LTE: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 20, 28, 29, 40, 41, 66, 71 (Same as GSM Arena)
Box and phone says:
1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12,13,17,20,25,28,29,30,38,39,40,41,46,66,71

Have you even looked to see if the bands missing from the version you want are even used where you would want to go? Have you looked to see what those bands are even used for/who they are used by? They may not even be relevant bands.

Yes I did. For example according tmobile, lg, and gsm arena, it's missing LTE Band 8 which is needed for Truemove H in Thailand I believe so without it, the phone will still work but I probably won't have as good coverage. Other devices have that band listed.

Yes, otherwise I wouldn't of mentioned. This is a general observation that would affect many other people going to many other places as well assuming the band info online is correct. It's not a necessity to have all the bands to use your phone on other carriers but the service won't be as good.

Right, but all those extra bands are enabled through the "hidden menu" options. Don't you think the "open market" US998 will also let you add more LTE bands?
the box is usually correct, its all the companies developers that disables the bands not needed for their networks. Which makes it difficult to get the specs right for all the different variants. Thats why they should just list all the bands off the box, then say in bold your carrier may be blocking some bands.

So in this case it's possible that T-Mobile \ LG are only listing some of the bands on their websites since the box and phone show otherwise? It's pretty sad when LG's and T-Mobile's sites don't even match. On LG's site they list some of the bands as "Roaming Bands" which could mean those bands only work in roaming mode? It's too bad they can't put out accurate complete information.

For instance, it's well known the South Korean carriers' LG phones REALLY support most of the U.S. carrier LTE bands, even though the specs websites and South Korean carrier websites say differently. Many people from U.S. order LG phones off eBay from South Korea because those models often have better specs (like the LG G6 had quad DAC and more internal storage than U.S. LG G6) or receive OS updates first.
But it's hard finding specific information about exactly which bands. I just know from word of mouth. Someone yesterday asked me exactly which U.S. LTE bands were supported on the South Korean LG G6 PLus (the LG G6 on steroids released MONTHS later in mid-2017, and which FINALLY had all the specs in one phone), and I can't find an definitive source to answer that question. (There's three carriers and some may have more bands than the others.) I'm giving them the answer from an XDA user for regular G6.

Convert Cricket S9 to T-Mobile S9?

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a Cricket locked Galaxy S9, buying an unlock code to unlock, and flashing it to the T-Mobile firmware. I have two questions I'm trying to clarify:
1) Cricket lacks a handful of bands that T-Mobile uses. Will the T-Mobile firmware allow me to use those bands?
2) Will the process of flashing the firmware trip Knox?
Thanks!

Hello,
I just completed this exact thing today. I received the phone from cricket today and ordered the unlock code ( got in with in an hour). After that I flashed G960USQS3BRK2 with odin 3.13.1.
tomorrow I will be able to test bands , I can confirm that knox was not tripped.
If you need more details feel free to PM me
Good to hear! May I ask where you got the unlock code and how much it cost you?

They have a very nice map where you can zoom into a desired location and see what freq/bands T-Mobile is authorized to use. Be warned however.. The map is based on individual counties and a tower might not be available in the area. Some areas might not have the appropriate equipment to provide coverage in certain bands or there might network outages that might temporarily effect coverage that in other times but be there.
Only bands you'll be missing out on is B66 which augments and improves on B4. B71 which is the newer band T-Mobile is deploying in the more rural areas of the U.S to provide coverage.

Okay so all the bands that are enabled on my T mobile branded S9 were enabled on the Cricket s9 after the flash. I purchased the unlock code from https://www.cellunlocker.net/. Cost was 24.99 and i received the code in less than an hour. All features working (wifi calling, video calling, visual voicemail etc). On the first two reboots after the flash the phone will be really hot. You might still get the cricket boot animation on the first boot, it will restart ones again and you should see the t mobile boot animation then.
Let me know how it goes!
Everything went great! Thank you for your input.

Note 10+ Hong Kong Dual Sim version for T-Mobile?

I am shopping for a Note 10+ 512gb to be used on T-Mobile network while in US. It appears none of the US carrier or unlocked Note 10+ come with dual sim. So my only option is to get Hong Kong version.
1. Does anyone know if Hong Kong version has all the radio frequency needed for T-Mobile? Below is what I copied from online spec.
2. Does Note 10+'s dual sim work the same way as iPhone XS Max? Which both sim are on standby for call and text, you can select one of them for data in setting?
3. If I remember correctly, Note 8 dual sim can have one sim on 3g while the other one on LTE. Is this still the case or its limited to 2g only? Thank!

Just get a device intended for use in your country, in xda there are tons of posts from people doing as you want and with bad luck end having some troubles, the worst one beeing no way to claim warranty, but that is just my opinion...
To answer my own question and for those who are interested. Note 10+ Hong Kong Dual Sim version is missing LTE band 66 and 71 that T-Mobile USA uses. 66 is usually used in stadium and arenas to ease congestion, where 71 covers some rural areas for extended reach. You will be fine with the HK version if you are using the devices mainly in metropolitan area. But since HK version also lack many other bands that US unlocked version offers, some of them maybe used by Sprint (which I don’t have time to research). It means you may not be benefiting from improved coverage if T-Mobile and Sprint join together.
It looks like US unlocked version has the most comprehensive band coverage among all models, domestic and international. If I am not wrong, it has every band available in Note 10+ lineup. For those who doesn’t need dual sim, US unlocked version is the best choice as far as network compatibility wise.
I'm using the N9750 on T-Mobile. Dual SIM works and both SIMS are 4G simultaneously. I have no issues with service. WiFi and VOLTE work. I know T-Mobile uses bands 66 and 71 in some areas but it really doesn't make a difference where I live.

is it worth to Trade in my exynos note 10 plus for Snapdragon note 10 plus ?

If you want a Snapdragon with unlocked bootloader that you can root then get the SM-N9750/DS. Or keep your Exynos. Those are your only options if you want root. I'm surprised more people don't get the international Snapdragon, it's like they only think the Exynos exists.

People buy what's offered in their region...
If you get a unit that requires a warranty repair , out of region phones are not covered and it can be expensive and time consuming to get fixed..
Considering the expense already it comes with peace of mind to be able to get things RMA'ed easily.
I got my Note 10+ and literally the next day I had to get it fixed due the S-Pen not coming out. Got my phone back, had it for less than a day and had to return it due to the power button becoming defective too.
I know this is not really the norm but these things do happen and what took a few days to fix could have been weeks or months otherwise if purchased outside my region...
The Snapdragon is a superior chip and is more efficient so totally your call. Warranty might be and issue
Just enjoy the phone you have your talking minimal gains Vs a possible loss of RMA /warranty
Not worth it.

Hi,
Just visited some samsung store in shanghai and I can tell you that in mainland china there are no sm-n9750, currently there are no 4g versions available of the note 10+. They only sell the 5g versions with the exact same characteristics as the sm-n9750/DS but with 5g support (thanks cpt obvious) with the following bands : N42 (2500), N78 (3500) and N79 (4500). the 5g versions is under the name sm-9760/DS. And it should also have the unlocked bootloader. Oh and it is sold the same price as the 4g version elsewhere and with google framework installed on it but deactivated until you connect to a network that don't block google..

Honestly there isn't a huge difference that you would notice. I have an exynos version here but I have a friend who bought the snapdragon version from the States. To be honest it seems the battery life is better on my exynos as he gets way less SOT on his phone and we both are medium to high users.
Firdt i bough ex version and sold after 5 days because of poor network signal . After 15 days i bough snap version and i dont have any problems with signal. For me its worth to change ex with sd. I have dual sim hk version

This is a problem with the bands supported by the modem
Different models support different bands in different countries

Thats is one reason to buy devices intended for use in your specific country, other major consideration is WARRANTY, I have claimed warranty in several ocasions, with devices obtained from my carrier, it is really difficult if not impossible when you buy a device from other country

That is true, but it also depends on where you buy it from - I have purchased many of my Exynos phones from Clove UK - and their customer support is fantastic. I had an issue when I bought the S9Plus - phone calls were dropping constantly - I tried everything to fix it and nothing worked - I sent back to Clove and they replaced it - pretty quick turn around - Now that happened within a week of when I bought it and I don't know what would have happened if I had a Warrenty issue after like six months or something - but I am just saying that some retailers will provide very good service and help with warranty repairs.

That is not true as the Snapdragon is definitely the superior chip. If you looknat the architecture of both then you will see that Snapdragon would have better battery life and performance.
Your friend might be using the Snapdragon and getting less battery life as you two don't have exactly the same usage. If you used his phone the same way you use your own phone then you will see that Snapdragon will get better battery life.
When signal is weak snap performs better,im in europe and by default ex is for our country but snap is superior chip, better reception, better battery better perfomance overall
I have the exynos version and i'm getting 5+/- on screen time, while my brother has the snapdragon and he is getting 7 hours, i'm really pissed...

Global ROM in China?

Hi guys, I would like to buy the S20 Ultra version in China from Samsung Store, to get the Snapdragon, but will be the Chinese ROM on it. Do you know if is possible to request to Samsung to have the Global ROM version? Or to install it at the moment of the purchase? Otherwise how can I solve this problem? Will be easy to do it by myself? Since is a expensive smartphone I don't want make any mistake..
Thanks for your help!!

Likely not. Hong Kong should get the SnapDragon. The Global model should be Exynos. Can't interchange the ROMs for it. Needs to be confirmed, but likely The snap dragon will behave better RF and battery wise. Maybe not a huge difference as with some older chipsets, but something to keep in mind. While Hong Kong may not get the OTA updates as frequently, you get a dual sim SnapDragon model.
hope this helps.

The Ultra international version is likely SM-G988F/DS, where the SnapDragon Hong Kong/Taipei version could be SM-G9880/DS.

The chinese versions typically have wireless bands that aren't supported in the US so I wouldn't use that. However, the Korean Version *will* use the snapdragons this year, and should be completely unlocked. Those should be fully compatible. I bought a Korean Note 8 because that was the only one which came in 256gb and the rare blue color and I've had no issues. It was Exynos, though. I'm hoping a lot of people in the developer community will buy this unlocked snapdragon version but I may not be so lucky. I might be forced to purchase the european "global" version.
Perfect!! Thanks, I will buy it in South Korea. Unfortunately they did it in only 2 colours this time...

Not sure which spec sheet you have seen. The SM-G9880 from Hong Kong should cover all the North American bands. AWS may be missing, I see it on some lists and not on others. I would be surprised if the Korean N version is better than a global F or Hong Kong’s 9880 version. I expect the 9880 to be similar to the U version but in dual sim format.

Yeah, I could be mistaken. My hope is just that with the Korean version also using snapdragon this year, people will be more open to buying that version over the International F. Development should be much easier and last longer with a snapdragon.

I hear you. I wish the Exynos was better, we’ll see what this new SoC will do, but the biggest hurdle as I understand it, it’s licensing and regulatory. I’m sure SAMSUNG would prefer to make a single version for the globe and just apply CSCs for customizing. To me, carrier and market demands are crazy. Single va dual sim, price, customizations, band support and features. If you put dual sim for everyone, a region will ask for a cheaper single sim. There’s no way around it, it’s insane.
SM-G9880
Has anyone found the network specs for this model?
I need the LTE and 5G band list.

Here’s the official band list from the Samsung China e-store. The 5G bands listed are more limited than what the Techwalls site says for GM-9880 (doesn’t support the US 5G bands listed there). The 5G bands listed are the same as the China Note 10+ 5G version, so it might be right. I was hoping it supported all the same US model 5G bands, but not sure now. If anyone has an actual G9880, sharing the real bands via an app would be great.

I think one of these apps will give you information of which 5G bands you are connected to. I thought there was an app where u could select different bands and force it, but maybe not or it has to be done manually. It looks like you are on T-mobile, so maybe you could try different areas/towers and different bands to test. On the Play store, there are also a few other 5G apps with maps of the different towers that can help you get close to test the high or low 5G bands. Thanks for your contribution. I’m really curious if both the high bands and low bands for T-mobile are supported on the 9880.

As for the moment on my 9880, i don't have 5G because "apparently" HongKong and Taiwan don't have 5G yet, thus it will be coming in a future firmware update. I tried to flash via ODIN the HK firmware but i got the BRI (Taiwan) CSC back again...

Do you want the following information?
I live in Taiwan, the phone model is SM-G9800
Taiwan ’s current telecom operators have not yet provided 5G services
If you need to provide other information, I will try my best to assist you
same issue here... got TGY on my 9800, i live in Switzerland and should get 5g or even 5g+ but nothing... i guess it's a frequency issue.
Now my question is : can we change the frequencies of the 5g on the phone?
Would anyone know if the sm-g9880 snapdragon model the 256gb 5g would work in Australia ? I think we use band 78? I can't find any details anywhere.

How are you able to get that? What app is that ?
My model is the sm-g9880 Taiwan firmware.
I tried to download the hongkong firmware but it didn't change the CSC for some reason. I did a full reset.
I thought maybe it's the firmware that's not approved for 5g yet because apparently Taiwan hasn't activated 5g yet.

Its called Quick Shortcut maker.
My G9880 was originally csc BRI but I have changed the csc to TGY using Samkey as 5G hasn't been activated on the BRI model yet but was activated on the last update for TGY.
