Which version of the phone do you have? Which Band are you missing?

I also have the same requirement. I've got the same ZenFone 5 (ZE620KL) which I think is from the Taiwan market. I need 800MHz (Band 20) activating as it's the most commonly used LTE band in the UK. I also need 2600MHz (Band 7) for my network but this is working on the device already. Is it even possible to get a missing band working on a device?

Anyone know the answer to this?

You can give this a try: [GUIDE] Add all GSM and LTE bands to your phone

That guide seems very complicated and is now 4 years old. Do you guys think the method still works? And are custom kernels already available? For now I'm kinda getting used to the missing Band 20 but the three Carriers in Germany said that they are shutting down 3G 2020/21.
So I would be glad if some experienced user could try if the tools work with the Asus ZF5 cause missing LTE support could become a problem rather sooner than later :/

Well, I'm not sure, I haven't tried that. There are thousands of guides for different phones here on xda. I'm sure somehow it can be done with this device as well.

Hope someone with experience and the phone can try it. For now I'm good with the missing Band 20 but in 2020/21 the major carriers here in Germany will shut down their 3G services. So missing LTE frequencies could turn out to be a real problem Rather sooner than later :/
Why Asus released their Zenfone 5 Models with different LTE support while the 5Z supports all important ones is beyond me...
Could a custom ROM with Kernel correct the missing Bands ?

thanks guys , but i sold my phone for the galaxy s9 and no any problems lol

I am not getting 4G LTE. It is staying on H (hspa). I have the one plus one and get LTE.
The info online says this phone should have all of the bands required.
Any ideas.

Check Settings - Mobile Network settings - Preferred Network Type and set it to LTE if you have this option and is not already set.
But I doubt that this is your problem. You bought the Taiwanese phone, didn't you? While OnePlus supports all ATT LTE bands (17, 4, 2), the Taiwanese Zenfone 2 doesn't support band 17 (nor ww model), which is otherwise typical for less inhabited aeries in the USA, but it seems that is widely used by ATT. Try the phone in the downtown or another city and you'll probably catch the LTE on other frequencies.
Yes I purchased it from Taiwan but all of the sites show so many bands for this phone. Asus does a terrible job with their model numbers. There are so many different versions with the same model number. There is a 4 g setting not lte and that is selected. I did pick up 4g while driving through part of the city.
Is there going to be a US model?
Thank you
Yes. There is a US model and its supposed to be released in the next month or so. The link below, click on specs, shows the LTE bands for each region. Clearly shows the Taiwanese model not having the 17 band.
http://www.asus.com/Phones/ZenFone_2_ZE551ML
That stinks. I took that page as it will work in all of these markets. Oh well
Thanks

Where in US are you?
There are some areas in the US that are only on LTE band 17. I suspect that's OP's issue.

I looked at it and TW, WW and US all have 1700 bands if that's what you are referring to. If not can you shed some light?

The topic is about bands not frequencies. There is nothing such as 1700 LTE band. Actually both USA and TW phones work on approximate LTE 700 MHz but bands are different because uplink and downlink are different. So TW model works on band 28 and US one on 17.

I see now. Tnx for the quick response. Hopefully I'm not outta luck when the phone arrives tomorrow from TW. Do you think that flashing later on a radio or baseband will solve this issue?
It's not that simple. Luckily Intel chip supports all LTE bands. But they must be activated in kernel too. Maybe someone will find the method to activate the missed ones. Otherwise you are not so bad. With TW phone you are short of only one LTE band of four major in the USA, Europeans missed 2 of 3.

Frequency wise is matches everything AT&T needs, i just picked up my 4g/64gb TW model, i'll be playing with apn's to see if i can get lte to pop. Only getting H+ so far.
Correction, shipped with WW firmware, no 700mhz for us.
More - As posted above, this Taiwanese version is missing the LTE band 17. And there are some areas that this may be the only band available, so you will not have LTE in those situations.
Thanks so much.... I was having a heck of time here with my Zenfone 2 in Tucson AZ on T-mobile.... I was stuck on 2G... but updating the APN to fast.t-mobile.com and 2 reboots seems to have done the trick. So glad I don't have to EBAY this! THANKS AGAIN.... Loving this thing so far!
Well ****! This is where I am stuck win H+ on ATT.
No way around this huh unless someone does a new rom? Or is it hardwired?

Any way of discovering if the Zenfone 2 has band 12 capabilities?

There are a small amount of phones that have band 12 support through updates. Their respective specifications usually don't include band 12 support, though looking around states band 12 support can be enabled via an update.

Currently, the zenfone 2 states no band 12 support. Is there any way of looking into the phone itself to see if it has band 12 capabilities? Crossing my fingers for this, as this phone is super slick and powerful for an awesome price, and as a T-mobile user, lack of band 12 support is the only thing holding this phone back from purchase. most current band 12 capable phones are either lackluster in features, or too expensive.

Hey! Are you in an area that doesn't support T-Mobile 1700/2100 MHz AWS (band 4)?
I think i read somewhere on the tmobile forum, they use main band 4 and 2 being implemented.
Zenfone 2 supports both, I just got mine US version today and the LTE is working for me.

i live and travel between stockton, CA; Sacramento, CA; and Tracy, CA. signal is OK for the most part, though in some areas it leaves a bit to be desired. Currently using a Nexus 5. Through the LTE discovery app I know my phone typically picks up band 4. not sure about band 2. There are some indoor areas like buildings that aren't all that great on tmobile in my area. my local best buy for instance instantly drops to low signal the second i step in the store, even though right outside is full bars. driving along the freeway in certain areas deem little to now signal sometimes as well.
I'm not here to complain about my tmobile service. Just trying to ensure future proofing of my phone purchase hoping that band 12 would improve those situations.

If your a legitimate Asus rep, then that is a bummer the lack of band 12 support. I've already been to those pages and checked again. I just wanted to see if band 12 was possibly hidden somehow, as it seemed to be the case with a 2-3 other handsets since theyre only activated via software updates.
Thanks for the replying.
I am confused, it looks like the USA version does do Band 12
see below bolded:
USA T-MOBILE FREQUENCY: BAND 2 (1900MHZ), BAND 4 (1700/2100 MHZ), BAND 12 (700 MHZ)

Nah man, he/she is just stating those are the frequencies T-Mobile operate on, not frequencies of Zenfone 2 itself. See the link right above it for the zenfone 2 supported band list.
That would be nice though. I've already read several sites stating that it does not support band 12. The point of my post was to find out if there was any way to find out on the device itself (via owners of a Zenfone 2) to see if it was somehow hidden in there. Specs for the Galaxy Avant, Xperia X3, and the ZTE Zmax I don't think initially listed band 12 support in their specs, but now supposedly they will have it enabled via their respective software updates. I was crossing my fingers hoping a similar thing would happen with the Zenfone 2.

Clearly the phone itself supports the 700 freq (Band 17) which is also where Band 12 operates. Does that require a hardware change? I dunno.

US variant of ZE551ML does support Band 12. The LTE Discovery app revealed I was on Band 12 while using the T-Mobile service in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Going east from there, I was on Band 4 or 2, but then again, T-Mobile's rollout is just starting in Southern California.
That's really interesting Armchair. Band 12 is NOT listed anywhere in Asus' specs. I wonder if the latest OTA update kicked it in? Do you know what firmware you're running? B12 support is the only thing holding me back from the Zfone.

When I bought the phone from Amazon on June 25, 2015, Band 12 was listed in the US spec. Otherwise I would not have bought it at all because I wanted that availability. Now that I go back to the Amazon product page to get a screenshot, I see the entry has been altered to remove Band 12. However, today I'll make a trip to Rancho Cucamonga (not far from me, really), and screenshot the LTE Discovery screen when it shows the phone connecting to Band 12. (Pics or GTFO, right? )
Box Codes:
ZE551ML, BLACK, LTE,D
INTEL MRF Z3580(2.3Ghz),4G,64GB EMMC
ANDROID US,5.5" 5M/13M,N/A
Other notes of reference: When the phone arrived, the firmware was WW 2.18.40.12. I OTA updated to 2.19.40.18 then rooted (using Method 3) and unlocked the bootloader. Did not remove any system apps nor install any custom recovery. I have OTA updated twice since then, keeping root and unlocked bootloader. Currently at WW 2.19.40.22, under which I can connect to Band 12 towers. Did not tinker with the telephony settings or make any other unauthorized changes other than rooting and unlocking the bootloader.
So Asus snuck in support for Band 12 in a firmware update? Very nice Asus. Very nice indeed.

I've asked both TMO & Asus for confirmation. TMO basically said since it's not "native" it's not something they can confirm as working or not. Asus has yet to respond to my query period.
UPDATE: Got a reply from Asus. AsusUSA support on Twitter said they are unable to find any substantial data to verify Band 12 support for TMO.

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Loyalty. Currently there is no support for this band and no confirmation if it will be added in the future.
I believe it is limited in the hardware. Unfortunately it's not supported.
So looks no Zenfone 2 for me any time soon. What an OTA unsupported update can give, it can also take away.

On .90 I was able to connect to B12 in the same spot as before as well as other locations around Rancho Cucamonga but I didn't take a screenshot of the LTE Discovery app for proof as a few threads here and in other forums have made it clear that T-Mobile will not support B12 on non-branded (read: noncustomized firmware) phones. Since then, the display has developed the infamous lines and fading issues as recorded by others and I have RMA'd the phone. Using a branded burner phone until all is resolved.
Damn looks like the issue is lack of support for volte.

[Q] G3 D858 dual SIM root - unlocking other LTE/4G bands?

Hi guys,
I've posted in the AUS thread over in the main board, but it doesn't seem to be getting much attention:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/lg-g3-australia-thread-au-t2841345/page45
It's been reported and tested among several android devices that phones using the QUALCOMM chipset can now have various 4G/LTE bands UNLOCKED following a relatively easy - but fairly tedious process. as the G3 (and specifically, the dual SIM D858) sports the MSM8975AC Snapdragon 801 chipset...I ask the question:
Has anyone successfully unlocked 1 or more LTE/4G bands? I'd buy this phone if it were possible for root, then a successful unlock of all popular 4G bands here in Australia, specifically B28 (FDD) 700Mhz. Anyone who has tried, failed, succeeded or can provide additional details, please respond!
Thanks
Anyone?
Might be worth closing this, as G3 owners apparently don't visit here anymore.

I got my D858HK in the US and am here until August. I'll be primarily using in India and China. I tried one of the procedures using QPST and QXDM to write all the 4G/LTE bands to memory, thereby "unlocking" them. Didn't seem to work on AT&T's (US) network. I'm only getting 3G. It's possible I didn't do something correctly, however...
I also tried going into the hidden menu, but while I am able to select/deselect the check marks for the different bands, there is no way to save the selections. At least no way that I can find. I would expect that I should be able to get 4G (even if not LTE) if the unlocking was successful.
Not that this helps you much, but I am also interested in a way, if possible. I'll probably give it another shot later this week or next week. I'll come back and post if I have any success.

Sounds like you tried this thread. Thank goodness someone did, because I couldn't even download QPST, but I'm trying to get on T-mobile. Like you, I entered the secret menu with 3845#*858# What I find odd is that the LTE band selection indicates 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,17,20,40 But frequencycheck.com shows that these phones actually do 1,3,7,38,39,40,41. Those latter bands are crucial for China, so even if this setting were to work, it may well break China support.

successful in unlocking WCDMA/LTE bands in LG G3 D858HK
i was able to unlock the additional WCDMA and LTE bands in my LG G3 D858HK varient using QPST and QXDM.
The unlocking of WCDMA bands was done using QPST and the unlocking of LTE bands was done using QXDM.
Another important thing to note is that i was using MOKEE ROM 7.1.2 while doing the band unlocking.
NV MANAGER couldn't read from phone when i tried with the stock rom.

Unlocked US HTC 10 won't connect to 3G Band 900

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a HTC 10 from swappa, the unlocked version. The thing is, on gsmarena and HTC US page says that this model works on 850/900Mhz bands for UMTS (H/H+), but here in DR, i'm trying to use it with Orange Dominicana, who works on 900Mhz band for UMTS and the phone doesnt... It goes from LTE to 2G, and when on LTE i cant receive phone calls. I need to put it on 2G to receive calls, but the data sucks at those speeds.
Anyone knows a way that i can be sure if the phone really doesn't have this particular band (900Mhz) for UMTS? or a way to see if i can activate it if its available but inactive? I try 2 phones (a friend of mine bought one, same model) and is the exact same behavior on both.
See my signature about adding bands.
At least you can check if it is enabled and perhaps try to add it too

I haven't tried adding bands yet. I'm interested since Viva is rolling out 4G service in the next few months. If my HTC 10 isn't compatible with their 4G or 3G (even though they said it will be), then I'll be looking at adding more bands.

Thanks for the sugestion. I did not follow your method since CDMA Tools is no longrer available in DEMO version and licences are really expensive (100+ Dollars) to just test. I followed the method suggested by @fffft (That can be found here) since it applyes to all Qualcomm devices using QPST and QXMD.
Long story short, I had to Root, set a custom recovery, a custom ROM and even a custom Kernel to try the method but It did not work to me. The irony of all of this is that technically I my HTC 10 has all bands available to be used. See the picture Attached.

Where can I find the truth about LTE-bands and G8 models?

Hi,
I have problems finding "facts" about the G8 and the LTE bands different models support.
On some pages, like
https://www.getdroidtips.com/lg-g8-...lm-g820um-g820n-g820ua-g820v-g820tm-and-more/
they claim that if you go for the G820QM or G820QM7 you will have maximum coverage.
But either I'm doing things wrong , or , the truth is more complicated.
The bands I really NEED in Sweden are 3,7,8 & 20 , but since I travel a bit I would like as many bands as possible open.
My phone was from the beginning an AT&T bloatware LMG820UM (A9), but now I think it's more like a LMG820QM (A12).
(And unfortunately Band 8 doesn't work. )
Does anyone have a good link to a page that tells the truth or a good way to open up bands ?
Thanks!

Probably the most trust worthy I've seen would be GsmAreana. If you follow this link it's for the G8, and it indicates the us Open version supports band 8.
'Open up bands'? Doesn't exist, to my knowledge. Some think the 'hidden system menu' has an option to 'select bands', but in my experience all that menu does is allow you to 'test' for certain bands, to see if they connect. It doesn't 'make it available', as some wish. For the most part, if it's not listed as being a band the rom supports, it's probably not going to connect to it.

Now I have tried a few different "QM" versions on my phone (that once was an AT&T with "UM").
Right now I flashed it "T-mobile" with a pink start up-screen.
None of those crossflashed firmwares seem to make my phone to connect to LTE band 8.
(My old G7 connects to band8 very often, with good signal).
I'm starting to think that crossflashing doesn't change the frequency bands at all..
If I go in to the service menu, and ONLY pick band 8, it will connect and use only that.
If I select 3,7,8 & 20 it will never connect to 8.
I'm a bit lost with this.. I wonder if my phone still, deep inside, believes it is an UM and shouldn't use band 8.
Maybe time to Ebay it..

So it does connect to 8? As you say. Well that means the other bands have a stronger signal, and that's why they are being chosen and not 8. Your other phone that gets 8 well, does it have the ability to connect to the other bands on other phone? Maybe that's why that one always chooses 8?
And yes, I guarantee you, a different rom will have different bands enabled. Just the way it is.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes, my other phone, the LG G7, connects to all bands needed (3,7,8,20) when I travel to work without any problems.
I'll give the G8 some more tries.. but we don't understand each other

You can pull the carrier policy with QPST,and it will show you bands that are supported for the particular firmware you're using and find out.

Thank you for that suggestion! I didn't know, but now I will try to read out that "carrier policy" next time I have some "play"- time .
(Sorry about the very slow reply, I was on a vacation)
Thanks!
