Thanks for the heads up. It does "feel" faster than normal registration of FPs. Tried the earlier Up, center, down, left, right method posted on another thread earlier but your method is much faster than the other method.

BIG THANKS!
Double faster than before and double precise! (think the last pressed/scanned finger have a lead to opening FP, maybe i am wrong)

It's not good yet, i did this way when i bought it, but you can not say it works good. Need an upgrade, that is the truth.

Still not good enough but much much better then before.

it is beautiful and so slim considering what is under the hood! been trying that dual speakerphone system and it works well. tried using in noisy environment and it auto fades out surrounding noise so you can hear what other person is saying! still cant stop the wind blowing into speakers though!
interesting to see what battery life will be on this thing as that could be its achiles heel! added coreplayer via cab and it works well. videos look stunning! the tilt screen is much stiffer so it don't flop about like on my old kaiser/tilt. used to think the screen on my kaiser would fall off at anytime! it would be nice if people posted the their initial feelings of the device wen 1st received and thoughts after a few days of use. i will be!
thanks all

yeah i know that but cheers for pointing out. getting its ass kicked today to see how it holds up after 1st charging cycle. gave it overnight charge - 12hrs. really hope battery holds up as this could be the only thing that could be its undoing. however saying that, when all the cooks start building rhodium roms etc i am sure there will be things in place to aid battery life!
few other things
no spare stylus. searched whole box and nothing.................
slide out mechanism is a bit stiff for my liking but like the sturdier feel to tilt screen. not sure bout purple background and do like the t-mobile look. that will be my 1st enhancement changing clocks and penguin to t-mobile rhodium look! will post screenshots of how it looks once done! very quick scrolling and smooth accross tabs. mem usage 50% as standard. music playback is more than suitable and in my opinion quite good! FINGERPRINT magnet my god! ugh hate that but will have to live with it! screen protector in box but i can never apply without getting bubbles underneath! big fingers/hands. i find tilt suitable enough for watching vids from my desk or table at home! can't wait to see WM6.5 on this machine
edit: still have the issue where i have to untick proxy in connections to get certain web apps working on t-mobile. for example messenger! not a big prob and doesn't slow down connection speed!

Multitouch issues / No real Multitouch

Hi all,
I am also thinking about buying a Desire - actually I nearly couldn't wait any more until I found the following:
http://androidandme.com/2010/03/news/is-multitouch-broken-on-the-nexus-one/
The touchscreen of the N1 seems to have a technical limitation in the way that it can only register 2 simultaneous touches at a time. But it cannot really track the touch points correctly, it merely reports 2 X and 2 Y coordinates. (Which could make up 4 Points actually of which only 2 would be the correct ones obviously)
If I understand the comments correctly the N1 has a Synaptics ClearPad 2000 touchscreen in it with the above limitations.
There is newer touchscreen called Synaptics ClearPad 3000 which actually supports 'real' multi-touch (up to 10 fingers)
http://www.synaptics.com/solutions/products/clearpad
As the N1 and Desire are practically the same thing just with different wrapping and software I got a bit worried. Can one of you guys with a Desire please check if the same issues occur for the Desire. Or maybe we are lucky and HTC used the newer screen the Desire (*hoping*)
This actually upsets me a lot as I really wanted a Desire
cheers,
Tommi
Me too.
I also found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T97P_wfYKms
I seems it can recornize 3 touches but not crossed. (the specification of clearpad2000 sayd maximun 2 touches??!!)
EDIT: the top 2 figers share an axe!
here is the bug on Android ML..
http://groups.google.com/group/andr...ead/thread/d0aa3eea8fd9a2b8/f4b039d29f955d76#
It's and hw problem that could have a partial sw fix.
I don't really see it as a big problem. You'd be hard pressed to use more than 3 fingers on the small screen anyway.
i dont get why the switching of axes is a problem? the only time you'll use multitouch on your desire would be to pinch zoom photos etc. but it doesnt matter if your fingers are in the top left corner and the bottem right and it thinks the other way around. it wil totaly not effect the geusture cuz the movement is stil the same.
(srry for my bad english )
sure? look at this simple *broken* game.

This topic has been discussed to death.
I own an HTC Desire, unlocked, HTC own retail version.
And I have never ever experienced any issue with multitouch nor when using my phone.
For fiddling around, flick flock, swipe swope, tap tap, pinch zoom, shake, gaming, whatnot.
Seriously, if this is a big issue, you will hear a lot of complaints and it will be all over the news.
In fact most if not all are happy with our phone

ive had no issues with using multitouch, for me everything works perfect !
I did not want to discuss any fixes or reasons for the malfunctions, thats all clear.
I simply wanted to know if it is the same with the Desire as it is with the N1.
If it is a big or small issue is for everyone self to decide. Maybe I only want to play pong with my phone (I don't say I want that), in this case it would be a huge issue. If the only thing you need is a pinch zoom (which is a useless guesture btw) it is no issue at all.
Could you be so kind and test that pong game on the Desire and let us know if it works or not?

Because you have asked me, then my answer is NO. I won't test that.
You will have 2 possible answers anyway ...
1. It still have that problem
2. It does not have that problem
I think your concern is no. 1, correct? I guess so ...
Then it is up to you ... But as I said, this is not an issue for daily use, except you really want to play that Pong game
PS: From what I read, I almost certain that HTC Desire will have the same issue like N1 for this (same display technology anyway).

The algorithms for these touch screens aren't designed for complex multi touch, they are designed to recognise gestures with 2 fingers.

Hm... well to be honest I have not made very good experiences with motorola in the past. Event though the droid/milestone phones look quite nice I'd really like to stay with HTC. I do not really need a new phone at the moment, I only wanted to have the Desire . But only with real multitouch (which is for me, to track more than 2 fingers accurately)

Hehe, no that would be quite a stupid reason, wouldn't it.
I do however want a phone with true multitouch and not just a 'basic guesture supporting' 2 finger recognition. (oh and I probably don't need to add that iPhone is not an option)
I think.. it's only a software problem..
maybe there is a bug in android 2.1?
Or, someone in motorola already found out about this bug and fixed it for droid.
Anyhow, imho, this can be quite easy to be fixed.

Face lock actually is useful!!! And not a gimmick like they say!!!

Just wanted you guys feelings on how this feature is doing in your nexus life. I actually use it as a security feature and it hasn't let me down and I don't think it will. I'd like to hear your thoughts. That's one up on the iphone.
Transmitted from The LTE Starship... GNEX!!!!
Less secure than PIN or pattern unlock as the 'PIN' in the case of Face Unlock is literally written all over your face.
Note that the argument is actually more complicated than this because it depends on what threat you're actually trying to secure your phone from.
the one are i think this is the most useful is when i'm driving and i have to unlock. tell me that isn't convenient.
I tried it for two days, but I became tired of looking like a real winner in public unlocking my phone, as well as it didn't catch my face all the time. (about 66% of the time) I do agree however that it is more than a gimmick.

It would be great if the preview image from face unlock could be disabled. I know I'm handsome and all, but I don't want to look at my mug 63 times a day.
I tried it at the verizon store and it seemed pretty legit. Does anybody know if this is a galnex only feature or will it come to all ics devices with a front facing camera?
Well,count me as loving it.

I think it's just like any other security lock on smartphones. PIN, pattern, and face unlock, they are all the same imho. If I got the phone in my hand, I'll be able to see what you have no matter what. Doesn't matter what kind of security feature you have.
i was surprised that it worked with my glasses on and off. i initially set it up, but i cant be bothered setting up a secure lock screen, since i like quick camera access which cant be had with a PIN or face unlock
using it on mine, however the one interesting thing is, I was showing off on launch day. And handed my phone to my mom and said unlock it. She turned it on and it recognized her faster than me. As posted previously, use the improve feature in settings

I'm actually constantly surprised by how well the face unlock works! And if for whatever reason you want to bypass it quickly, you can just tap at the bottom of the screen to go immediately to whatever your backup method is!
I tried a couple facebook pictures of myself and those didn't unlock, and I also haven't tried to see if it might recognize my brother as me but honestly, if someone really wanted to get into your phone, they would regardless of what kind of "security" you use. In my opinion, the face unlock is quick, functional and cool. What's not to like?

It takes too long for my liking.
I find it stupid that my Nexus won't let me use face recognotion if I setup a VPN, it forces you to choose between a pin/pattern/password. So now if I want to use face unlock I have to create then delete my VPN connection everytime.

Face recognition

I have a problem with face unlock. It seems my phone thinks my friend looks like me and it unclocks my phone. We both have beards but dont look alike. With the fingerprint he cant unlock. Im using a silicone case but did the fix update

It's not that he looks like you, but rather his face is overall similar as yours. Keep in mind the phone isn't looking for your face specifically, but rather one that overall looks like a 2D image it takes. This isn't like Iris scanning on other Galaxy phone's or the Iphone's 3D facial recognition...
If you read the notes when setting up facial recognition you should have seen that it is considered and labeled on the phone as a "less secure" method. Specifically that if someone looks like you they may be able to unlock the phone. It also states things like jewelry/facial hair/glasses/heavy makeup can cause recognition issues.

Why not use the fingerprint sensor instead and solve the problem your having? Personally I find the fingerprint scanner to be quite easy to use.

I also use the fingerprint sensor , but because of my screen protector sometimes it doesn't work good. I will find a new screen protector. and this is what you get for splashing out over a $1000 on a device..... samsung removed more secure systems in favour of less secure ones and call it "innovations"...... classic. .
There are several Youtube videos demonstrating how easy it is for someone else to access the device using just an image. .. i think the earlier people realise that 90% of these so called innovations are just marketing gimmicks robbing people of functionality and productivity on existing devices, the better for everyone.... ... guess another reason some of us will not be upgrading ... hardware or software....

Question Worst FPR ever put on a phone

Ok this is beyond a joke now. Why in the hell would these morons remove face unlock only to add the absolute worst fingerprint reader I've ever dealt with on any phone I've ever owned. I never thought I'd consider going back to pin unlock considering that even the door to my house has a fingerprint reader. What are your thoughts on it?

Well people wanted it for when wearing a mask but this FPS is a disgrace. It was quicker lowering my mask and using face unlock then this trash FPS. I'm sure it will improve in time but I'm also considering going to just a pin.
I really don't understand this company. They add and remove **** on every phone they release. Soli in then gone, squeeze in then gone, face ID in then gone. It's ridiculous. But hey...we have a curved screen lol.
It actually is the worst FPS ever! I just hope it's not a hardware issue and can be fixed by software
Try to just lay your finger on the scanner, ever so slightly, instead of pressing. Helped me.
I agree here, Faceunlock was beautiful. In an ideal world, we would have gotten Faceunlock AND fingerprint scanner (back).

Worst decision... Curved screen. It adds nothing valuable!! It throws shadows. It makes it hard getting a proper screen protection. Useless. Absolutely.
FPS is a good idea - if added additionally to face unlock. Sigh.
Mine seems to be getting worse. 2 full seconds to register seems to be the average if it actually works the first time. About half the time it takes 2 or more tries. I'm coming from a scanner on a 5 year old phone that just works. I told myself I just needed to get used to it, but the opposite seems to be happening. The longer I own the phone, the more I just assume stuff will work, so I'm less careful with the FPR, etc.
Mine's erratic with performance all over the place. Sometimes it fails, sometimes it takes 3s to work, sometimes the screen stays blank until I use the power button.

I agree with you entirely. I was strongly considering returning this POS and jumping ship to iPhone. I think instead I'll keep it and trade it in on an s22 or something. Not sure I can deal with iOS either.
If i didn't break my p4 xl...I would absolutely have returned this as this is an inferior phone in every single aspect other than the camera

Exactly...well said
When the rumors were flying around about this phone months back and it was mentioned that 6pro might have a curved screen.... I cringed.
I've got about 5 or so days left to return. I'm seriously considering it. First time ever with a pixel phone.. I can't believe they actually moved forward with this FPS. It couldn't have worked much better while they were testing it? I'm on the pixel superfan page on FB. Every post someone makes about the FPS Google declines to post it. Instead, they've put those of us that did in a different, hidden thread to talk about it. It's effing BS. They're hiding it instead of acknowledging it and saying they'll fix it.
I did find something that helps, sort of. I read an article about folks who have the animations set to .5 were seeing a bug where the fingerprint was gone from the AOD/lockscreen. Setting it back to default fixed it. I had the same problem, so I changed it back. The fingerprint unlock is a lot more successful now. Still total garbage, but better. Hopefully this helps.

Unsure if I will return my P6P. However, for my first in screen finger print reader, this can't be right.
The FPR is so fickle. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Agreed that if anyone spent any time with this phone, they would know to fix the FPR.
There are a few issues I hope Google can resolve soon: FPR, auto-brightness and antenna (if there is a software fix for antenna hanging on to weak 5G signals instead of moving to a stronger LTE when it is available).
yeah mine was returned yesterday back to ATT store for this same issue, used it one day and went back into the box most horrible FP I ever used, I had had to eat 55.00 restocking because of this crap oh well lesson learn!
Mine works just as good as any OnePlus phones I've had in the past few years
It's working very well for me but that's because my expectations aren't ultrasonic sensor ones. The accuracy has been very good but it's the speed that varies from pretty quick to 3/4 a second. Key thing is to press and hold until the haptics confirm or deny it. With that in mind I rarely get misses. Maybe a handful a day. Could it be better, sure, but it's not total trash.

That helped mine changing the animations then changing it back. Seems to be better, hope it lasts.

Wow... You loose absolutely all credibility when you say the pixel 4 is "better in every aspect other than camera". That is just an idiotic comment. I understand you can't please everyone and there will always be a handful of people that'll complain, but come on... You are being absolutely ridiculous.
BTW, not understanding how y'all are having the negative experience. Been using fingerprint since day 1, and maybe had 1 or 2 times where I had to try a second time to unlock the phone. Only negative thing I can say is it does seem to be slightly slower than other fingerprint phones I've used before. I'm sure Google will address it or someone will modify the kernel source to improve the overall speed. It feels like people expect to be 100 percent satisfied in every aspect and if something only reaches 90 percent, their brains explode and the world is coming to an end!
If a slightly delayed (we're talking tenths of a second) fingerprint reader is such a deal breaker and calls for all this complaining, I can only imagine how y'all deal with everyday life. Just saying.

Same here - my FPS is working just fine, maybe just a bit slower than the one I had on my OnePlus 7T Pro, but still nothing to complain about...
Fp working properly for me...
