Question Google photos included? - Google Pixel 6 Pro

Hello
I looked through all the launch news but can't find if google photos backup/storage is still included for free with Pixel 6. Does anybody know?
Thx

I didn't see that either. They aret trying to get you to buy a whole bundle of stuff for $45/month. I'm not a gamer.

They haven't included that for years now, so it's unlikely. If I remember correctly, the Pixel 2 was the last phone with infinite Google Photos storage.

It's £1.50/month for 100GB storage (Photos & Drive)

Not included is Kinda Old news...

I bought the 2 TB Google One plan a few weeks ago, as it was time for me to either move onto a different Photos platform or fully commit. I came from the Pixel 1 with supposed "forever" unlimited original Photo quality syncing, but even when I tried to trick Google when backing up my photos from the Galaxy Note 10+ synced to the Pixel 1 via SyncThing, they were still taking up storage space.
I hate subscribing to anything, but Photos is just so far ahead of everything else like it. The 2 TB plan gave me 10% back in-store credit on my 2x Pixel 6 Pro / 2x Buds A-series purchases. I could probably go ahead and buy another two years' worth of 2 TB Google One with that credit - we'll see.

I went to Amazon Photos. $1.99/mo.

[Q] Apps to SDCard - Galaxy Note 2

Hello
I am totally new user of Android. Using Galaxy Note 2. I have just rooted it. Can any one tell me how can I move apps or at least force new installations to SDCard?
I have used Odin Root method.
Also have tried almost all appstoSD apps on play store.
Regards
I assume you did install an sd card. So what problem are you having with apps like Apps2Sd? Did you go to settings/applications and move them there?

Well the more I read the more I see others having the same issue and may be a Jelly Bean issue.
"The ability is taken out in devices launched with ICS/JB, devices updated to ICS/JB still have the ability to move apps to SD it seems"
I think you can still do it if your rooted though with Link2SD . Anybody else care to chime in??
May make me change my mind about the 16GB version.
BUT, I am pretty sure 16 GB is plenty of internal space for apps!
I have tried almost all popular app2sd apps.. Link2SD is also included.
Even have tried Android SDK and used setlocaton method too.

ATM the only solution is directory bind, bund I haven't tried it as I find it cumbersome to use from reading users' input on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889550
This works great now.. but thing is that its too restrive .. it work only on SDCard folder.. Its not working for any other folder..
"data" folder where all apps and app data stays.. we need to work Directoryblind for that and which is not working.

No way
After trading-in a Note I in exchange for a Note II, I had to return my Note II to the store, and did the same a week later with my S III.
I see no point at all having a device that just a week after purchase showed the message: "not enough memory to update your apps".
After lots of reading and asking the techs from the store, I found there is no solution, since this is currently a Samsung desition to block this option completely out on their new models, furthermore, they even say it has been done on Google's request.
So wellcome back my HD2.
It's a shame, i'll stay away from Samsung products as far as I can.
Regards.

What a pitty! They offered me going back to an S-II or a Note-I, at store price of course, paying the overprice from what I got from my old traded-in unit.
Buying a phone is becoming quite a "case of study" where you have to be extra carefull, since you really don't know what you're buying until you have it for a few days, and then i's too late.....
Rom toolbox also has the option of app2sd. You can tell it to send all new apps to the sd card after its downloaded.

Yes but is that on the SGNII or the S2 (in your sig.) - apps2sd works on the S2 anyway
16Gb Not enough???
I dont understand why you guys are worried. You dont think 16GB is enough to store apps. Besides any apps that require additional content download usually go to sd anyway.
My phone (currently) is a second child entertainer - ipad being no.1 ATM, whilst in the car etc - this requires a vast quantity of video (not a prob. With a 64GB ext micro sd sitting on my desk awaiting a suitable wrapping) and games - usually only the 50M cheap/free games, but the kids are getting older - games more complex - use much more space AND I have a son and a daughter - so need boys & girls games. The 16 GB Will not have enough space (my ipad has 24GB of these!)
But I thought about it (after looking a what I actually need)
My main reason for buying SNGII is for work - Internet access, in pocket books, logbook of Procedures done at work, basic office document viewer/editor - the 16GB will be fine for these. (Ipad was good but too big & heavy)
Second reason is really good deals by three for tethering - so I can drop my ipad 3G sim (saving £15 per month), again 16GB good for this - we use the ipad a lot when camping (wife can't miss x-factor)
Third reason is for a better GPS than my tiny iPhone 3GS (on its last legs - will be retired to iPod mode in car) - 16GB ok for this - but on device maps will needs to be on SD
Forth, a camera - again 16GB ok as can set to store on external SD (except bursts - but presume you can move these later)
Fifth - a note taker - this is actually joint 1st - miss my old WM phones (XDA Exec, Toshiba L something etc) and the stylus - notes are only stored on the internal - as I expect these are small file sizes I "should" be ok with 16GB
Sixth - a sketch book - I love to sketch - presume sketchbook pro etc will allow ext SD storage
For all the above I think a 16 GB will be fine, HOWEVER:
- Many of the medical Apps have large DBs - hopefully these will be extSD mountable
- I might run out of game space
The solution I have come up with (and my wife has agreed - surprisingly her idea - well she thinks it was) is Christmas: 2x nexus 7 32GB (due out soon?) one for each child (no ipad mini - the original plan for the kids by wife - STUPID PRICES) - kids tried the nexus out in shops and loved them (because they are better) - so I get some space back!
So.........I'm probably going for a 16GB in the end - it will save me money (currently £36 all you can eat O2 plus £15 10GB 3 contract) by only costing £69 one off plus £36 pm all you can eat, including tethering - 2 yr contract
If I run out of space, I'll root and either swap internal for external or directory bind
I'd get the 32GB right now in a heart beat, samsung would get more money, google would get more money (more space for more apps) but hey ho.
Figure, based on GNI & SGIII that the 32GB will be far away and more expensive. If it turns out it comes sooner, or the 64 come out and I'm struggling for space, I'll sell on eBay and upgrade (tho its more likely I'll wait for the SGNIV!) - if I do game it's usually on ipad anyway ATM.
Took a little while for me to get there, and I'll be gutted if the 32 comes out next week! But I think I've made a decision - probably!
(Please note: I'm not an apple OR android fan boy - I just choose what suits my needs the best - I do like to tinker so am looking forward to android)
PS: Love this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nf5-Prx19ZM&sns=em
Guess what's the next big thing.....

Unlimited Original Quality Videos and Photos

I know this ends at the beginning of of 2021. What I'm wondering, when 2021 hits, will all of my past videos and pictures go to high quality or every photo and video from that point going forward? Yes, I'm totally anticipating breaking that 15GB if I haven't already.
I called Google Support and was told by one rep they would all go down to high quality, so best buy more storage before 2021, but I know sometimes you get different answers from different people on support. I figured people here would know for sure.

I seem to recall them saying your uploads will only be high quality after 2021
what you have already uploaded will remain whatever quality it was when you uploaded it prior to the cutoff.
A Google spokesperson told Engadget:
"With Pixel 2 you get free, unlimited original-quality storage for photos and videos uploaded through the end of 2020, and free, unlimited high-quality storage for photos uploaded afterwards. After 2020, there is no change to the photos you took before 2020 and you will always have access to those in original quality.
This is new for this year. We know that people tend to change their phone every 2-3 years so for Pixel 2, we are offering storage in line with that."
So how does this work in terms of which Google account?
Is it connected by which Google account is logged in to the phone or the account used to buy the phone from the Google store?
I'm asking because I might ask my brother to buy the phone for me. Wondering if it matters which account we use to buy the phone with.
Edit: I talked to the Google support. And they confirmed the unlimited storage is linked to what account is using the phone. Which account the photos get uploaded from (from the Pixel).

To be specific for other readers, the cloud privileges are extended to the account that is the backup account on the phone.
I have 3 google accounts on my phone but only 1 the backup account has the cloud storage privilege for Photos.
So if it's linked to a particular Google account, can I upload photos from a desktop computer to that account and still get original quality, or do the photos have to be uploaded from the pixel 2 xl?

20 TB cloud storage deal any review (Degoo on Galaxy Store)

Under apps "Made for Samsung" in Galaxy Store, Degoo App shows as 20 TB offer for Samsung.
If anyone among you have tried it and can give a review will highly appreciate it.
Have been looking for a good cloud storage service and was thinking of getting pCloud while I came across this.

I saw it too, today, do not know what to think...
Read how Degoo work. What I remember, it's not a "true cloud". 20TB for free? Even 100GB for free is weird.

Is it 20 GB or 20TB, because even OP states in title 20TB, then lists 20GB in his posts and the picture clearly shows 20000 GB = 20TB.
Let me see: with my monthly allocation of 5GB per month for high speed data on my line, I could upload my maximum allocation of data to their servers for next 333 years before they get full, WOW.
What I found... Since I am always looking for better could storage options
So here is what I found.
It's 100GB free, but you can upgrade to their ultimate plan and get the 20TB storage for $70/year since you are a "Samsung" user. Someone will have to verify if this offer is available for other brand users, I have a feeling that it is and is an introductory offer. This when compared to the Amazon storage plan I am using for photos, videos and docs is $60/ year for 1TB of storage.
Don't know if anyone used Amazon, but I signed up when they advertised "Unlimited Storage" for prime members for $60. About a year later they then dropped it to 1 TB and started offering other storage plans. Felt cheated, but that was the best available. Google is also around the same ballpark. If any of you know of any other service that will backup pictures straight from the phone for cheaper, please let me know. Comparing Amazon to this, looks like a great deal, but yet to do research on reviews, security, privacy etc.

Pcloud offers a 2TB Lifetime single payment account which I'm planning to get on Black Friday as price may drop to 275$ from current 350$.

If amazon can do that then so can Degoo I guess.
Also I checked 100GB free is offered to any user who signs up, the 20TB one may be exclusive to Samsung users.

For iOS, it's a set and forget. I use it to backup my photos and videos, mostly.
They have a basic app for Microsoft OS, and it does backup up your data reliably. To my knowledge, they don't deduplicate if you have the file in more than one directory, and I don't see a way to move a file once it is uploaded to Degoo. It looks like you would have to delete and reupload the file. Maybe someone else knows how to do it?
In Linux, I use the web app. I generally go to the My Files button, which shows me everything that I have backed up, by PC. I can then upload files into one of those collections.
There is an option you can set to keep files on the backup, even if they are deleted from the source system.

Ummm. Cheap? 100gb with 4k videos are quickly burnt.
It's not worth editing your build prop or installing Magisk modules to make this work. If your phone pretends it's a Pixel 1, it can start losing newer features that rely on the phone identifying itself as a Pixel 6.
The Pixel 1 upload slave device is the only decent way to do this. Just have it sit on wifi and sync daily. If you're clever, you can probably set up a whole automation procedure.
I used to keep my and my wife's old Pixel 1s syncing photos from our (now old) newer phones using the free SyncThing, however at least some things were still definitely taking up Drive space from Google Photos. Enough that I gave up on the idea. It mostly worked but I heard that Google got smarter about recognizing what photos and videos were actually taken on the Pixel 1, and which ones weren't.
I finally gave in when I pretty much already made up my mind that I'd likely be buying the P6P 512 GB when it would be released, so I bought the 2 TB Google One plan to get the 10% credit back for our two P6P's (and other Google stuff I've bought since then).

Sorry, it is actually 200gb. I edited my other post.
I'm in the UK and I pay for 100gb Google 1 monthly at a cost of £1.59. BUT currently it hasn't cost me a penny yet, I use the Google Rewards and answer surveys which give me credit 10p here 30p there and I'm £10 in credit up to now so free storage for me and haven't paid a penny 2 months in and won't for the foreseeable and if I do £1.59 a month ain't going to break the bank any time soon especially knowing that all my precious photos and docs are safely backed up.

In my use case I move photos taken by various cameras (P6P, DSLR, 360 camera, etc.) at weekend. Then process them on PC (geotagging, minor adjustment) then upload all of them to two OG pixels for parallel upload via WiFi. All photos then being accessible from anywhere via Google Photos. So far this works flawlessly. The freebies are there, just if it suit your upload style....
Yeh, Google Photos has improved a lot! It's my go-to.
Hate to revive an old(ish) thread, but has anyone using an old P1 as an upload slave had any issues with metadata getting changed? I made a thread here describing my specific issues, but basically I'm using Nearby Share to send stuff to my p1 for upload, and screenshots are getting their times changed when the upload finishes. Videos are fine, pictures are fine, and screen recordings are fine, it's literally just screenshots. Had no issues when I was using my P3 as an uploader before that benefit was EOL'd.
For those in the US with Amazon Prime. The service includes unlimited storage in Amazon Photos, including original and RAW files.

I had no issues with metadata that I noticed when I used SyncThing - I synced my entire internal storage to my old P1.
I did have a problem with Drive still running out of space so at least some photos or videos didn't work for unlimited storage by that method.
My wife, too.

One part I am curious about is the google unlimited storage, was going to use my old Pixel XL to upload free photos at full resolution.

What benefit are you getting running on Pixel 6 pro, just curious? Since from what I could tell at a quick glance is that most are standard on Pixel 6 pro?

because I didnt get the standard Pixel 6 pro features (Google Dialer features). that's the expected behavior for users from unsupported region.
I'm from Malaysia and had to import my Pixel 6 Pro myself using a forwader address service
"Unlimited Google Photo Upload" <- does this really work without any negative side effects?

Device would be treated as Pixel 3, so I guess there might be more side effects like call screening, etc not working?

Does the P3 qualify for unlimited uploads? I thought the OG P1 was the only device...

Nope I have tried this with Magisk etc. on my P4 and it crippled my P4 so much that I decided to leave it alone.

Are you absolutely sure of that? I read some discussions over the years and it appears that some time ago, Google "hardlocked" unlimited photo storage via a unique device ID that can't be just "spoofed", meaning this should be a placebo effect that you experience. I've seen people see "oh, the app says unlimited storage! noice!" but then if you closely looked at the actual data that your Google Account has, every upload still counted AGAINST that data, simply because Googles "hardlock" isn't that easy to fool. Meaning it means nothing if the app gives you the "go", you have to check the actual available MB/GB in your GAccount to verify it actually works.

I don't think the backup is at original quality through, its only for Pixel 1. All other pixels are unlimited at compressed size

Yes, youre probably right
Might just setup a replication to my pixel xl, and get that to sync my photos. I am really surprised google aren't all over this and using other exif information to determine the camera
You are correct original pixel was the only model to have unlimited at original resolution, which is why I kept my pixel xl.

Hm, why shouldn't it possible to spoof the device ID on a rooted device?
Sorry in advance for the slight OT:
For a part of a year, while my wife and I were using the Samsung Note 10+ between our Pixel 1's and Pixel 6's, I was using SyncThing on both our old Pixel 1's, kept charging and on Wi-Fi all the time, and on our Note 10+'s. I was just keeping things simple by having the Note 10+'s sync the entire internal storage, even though I had 512 GB on those and only 128 GB on the Pixel 1's, but most of the time I kept them pretty clear, and I had the Pixel 1's backing up in original quality.
It kinda worked, but there was definite evidence that something wasn't working right, or not working right all the time, or any more, because my wife's Google account ran out of space suddenly. She had the "basic" 15 GB and hardly used Google/GMail for anything, whereas I had 19 GB due to free bonuses over the years, plus I'd been using Google as my primary EMail, and Drive as my primary office document service for a long time. My account was getting fuller, too.
So I'm not sure if Google got wise over time, if it worked for awhile and then stopped, or what happened. I stopped using Google Photos completely except for historical stuff for the rest of the time we had the Samsungs. Once I knew I was likely going to pre-order us the 6 Pros on October 19th, I went ahead and bought into Google One's 2 TB plan so I could get the 10% store credit. I'm not positive if I can keep the credit that I haven't used, and downgrade to a lesser plan that I need right now, or if they might adjust my credit if I did that, unless I spend it first.
TL;DR: I gave up and bought in.

I have a feeling it might work and that people aren't following the steps. It literally says on the GitHub that it will not work if you don't follow the listed steps lol. But since I have already bought in, I'm probably not gonna give it a shot anytime soon =)
But heck, if the rumors regarding the S22 line are true (that they will be using Snapdragon chips world-wide), then I might get that phone if the bootloader can be unlocked and then give this a shot, haha.
